The delivery speed was outstanding. The quality of the product is perfect. I feel safe and secure shopping at Amazon.com. I know this sounds like a generic message, but honestly it was a great experience.

I found this book to be rather insulting. When writing a book based on empirical evidence, an author's personal opinions on the subject matter may be evident. However, this view point should not be of such a magnitude where the evidence presented will support only one side of a two sided argument. This book was, clearly, biased, and in a very bad way. I found it quite pretentious.

I got this book for my home, school, and community class. So far it has been very helpful and educational, but can get a bit on the wordy side and make ya want to quit reading.

Useful, but it could be more extensive

Generally, while I haven't READ it from cover to cover I spent a good 20-40 minutes examing the various parts that I was interested in. Overall, its useful to it's target audience as others said. However, if appears to omit some important points. First, the MacOS limits you to 255 volumes per server, resulting in some strange issues if you exceed this. Second, it ignores SMS integration and Netopia NetOctopus - software used to manage systems. In a cross platform environment, these can be very important issues that I feel should have been discussed.

For what it does discuss - which is otherwise extensive, including various service pack bugs - it does appear to be well organized and quite useful.

I truly cannot understand where this dude gets the idea there is no discussion of TCP/IP connections in the section covering Windows 2000. Evidently he's not paying attention. In fact, the section called "Learning How DHCP Works With Your Macs," beginning on page 292, clearly shows how you can use your Mac's TCP/IP Control Panel to access a DHCP Server established under Windows 2000.

Either that dude missed this section, or read another book. Either way, he doesn't seem to understand how it's supposed to be done.

In my company's network, a mixed setup with Macs in our art department and Windows boxes elsewhere, this book was an invaluable assistant in getting things to work properly when we migrated to W2K. I recommend it highly.

Windows 2000 Mac Support

Bummer, this book is a "wannabe".

Although, the Windows NT information is without a doubt, far and above superior to Microsoft's documentation it falls short with Windows 2000 support. Unfortunately, this book dwells upon AppleTalk as a viable protocol. However, Macintosh systems have supported TCP/IP as the native protocol since 7.x. AppleTalk is for all practical purposes dead -- Modern Giga Bit routers do not route AppleTalk. There is no discussion of Macintosh access via TCP/IP except implicitly through DAVE.

Microsoft might as well have written the discussion of the UAM (Universal Access Module) it is so terse. This book will be a great asset for those unfortunate folks supporting Legacy systems whose budgets will not allow forward progress.

For server based networks or users of Thursby's Dave.

Updated from review of May, 2000.
A more accurate title for this book would be "Windows 2000 SERVER or Users of Thursby's Dave Mac Support ..." This book is a step-by-step, how-to book for configuring Windows servers and Mac clients in a SERVER-based environment. If you are a knowlegible system administrator and/or Dave user and what you need is a recipe for doing X, including dialogs and what to click/enter when, then this book is well organized and complete.

If you are working in a peer-based (i.e. non Windows server-based) network, don't own Thursby's Dave, or if you need to learn/understand the different ways in which Macs and PCs can internetwork, then this book won't help you.

I rated the book 3 stars because its title and description led me to purchase the book (in May 2000) without being able to actually look at it. Had I been able to thumb through it in a bookstore I wouldn't have bought it. Otherwise I believe it delivers good value for its target audience (Windows system administrators or owners of Dave), even though I don't fit into this category.

I wanted a book to help me set up a network with the systems I had, not a book on how to use a software product (Thursby's Dave) that I did not own and did not necessarily want to buy. Without Dave the book is limited to Windows 2000 Server, so I stand by my original judgment. The basic change I'd make is to the title of my review. This is all academic now that the book can be previewed online and OS-X has supported SMB out of the box from the beginning.

Great for peer-to-peer networking too

Despite what another review says, this book is not just for users of Windows 2000 Server. My Mac/Windows network is set up on a peer-to-peer basis, and yet I found this book valuable, because it explained how to configure Thursby Systems' great program, DAVE, to allow for this sort of configuration.

I don't know what this other reviewer was thinking when these very clearly labeled instructions were missed.

Although the book assumes some degree of familiarity with both Windows and the Mac OS, even someone who is not an experienced administrator will learn how to set up their systems with as little fuss as possible.

I highly recommend this book.

Hello potential readers and hopefully future fans! I am the author of "The Baby Garden", a psychological thriller written in a literary tone. My friends call me Shae. I put a lot of myself into this book, my first, and my only desire is that people like you will read it. It's a real thrill, and also a little scary, to see my dreams and desires in print and available to everyone who may be interested. I am working on a second book right now, because writing is part of my very being, but I can't wait to see some reviews here, and I welcome any and all comments. (Go easy, LOL). Cheers, Sharon (Shae) Schovanec

Let's me first say, my background is physical chemistry and analytical chemistry, so I have a limited knowledge on pharmacokinetics. I purchased this textbook because I have the options to take an online 15 weeks class along this book with University of Georgia and to take an online test from ASHP after completion of this book. I did the latter. The book is actually short. Although the book is designed to be a textbook for a 15-weeks online course, I was able to read through it within 3 weeks, passed the ASHP test while holding a full time job. I admit that I often spent 2 hour a day reading the book and many people may not able to afford. That being said, I am certain that most people can finish this book within 15 weeks at a very relax pace. I find the book very easy to understand and enjoyable to read. The math requirement for this book is on the algebra level, although a basic calculus level is needed to fully appreciate the theories and the math. The book has some typos, especially during the "Exercises and Problems" sections. In addition, it is more expensive than other pharmacokinetics books on the market.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is new to pharmacokinetics and want a short, enjoyable introductory book.

A guide for campuses

MAJOR THEMES: Definition of a Learning Community; Types and Models of Learning Communities; Example of Learning Community and how the institution implemented: The most interesting idea to me was the discussion of creating a learning community on a college campus and the fact that it took all aspects of the campus 'community' to really be able to create that learning community. From the Admissions office to Facility Services. The major portion of the book was dedicated the discussion of "Creating a Campus Culture for Learning Communities" based upon the case study of College Park Scholars at the University of Maryland, College Park. The chapter discussed the fact that your committee would need to evaluate your mission statement. Your mission statement might need to include characteristics of learning communities. Discussion of strategic planning for a learning community. The authors stated that you would need to evaluate and determine the key players in the process of creating the learning community, as well as the need to determine what the priorities might be for the learning community. Excellent example of a grid for helping a campus create the culture. The authors furthered discussed the need for a planning calendar, financial concerns of creating a learning community. The book went on to discuss developing the curricula for a learning community. The examples and case studies were excellent. It was very helpful to me to see what other institutions have done to create a learning community. I would like to be able to take this one step further and create the online learning community. Very enjoyable read and an excellent resource for the institution that is working on creating a learning environment.

I thought this book was a good book since I am a sophmore in high school. I am doing a speech on binge drinking and how to deal with it. I believe kids my age should read this book because it might help them get through any drinking problems they might have. Kids in especially grades 9-10 are under a lot of peer pressure to drink. I know. I did drink for quite awhile until I ended up in the hospital. After that I wanted to get some help and this book describes some of the help I got. I am now alcohol free and never want to do it again.

Did not lend itself to my purpose

I have a psych background and was interested in creating an online support group for MS'ers. I don't know why, but I thought this book could have translated a bit better than it did in the online realm. Be prepared for a very academic approach. I'll admit, I did not delve too far into the book and only skimmed it. I returned the book to Amazon when I realized it would not really fit my needs. It was also quite pricey. I wish someone would author a book that deals with online communities and support groups -- this population is certainly growing!
