It was easy reading and helpful. It has given me the added incentive to strive towards my goal to lose weight and feel good about myself. Knowing that someone has achieved their goal and has gone through the same feelings I have is comforting. Since reading this book I do not feel guilty when I cheat. I know that nobody is perfect and that there will be days when you will cheat on your diet. I have a lot more confidence in my ability to continue until I reach my goal weight.

I have found Dr. Smith's book to be helpful in so many more ways than just a focus on weight loss. His insightful, easy-to-understand message clearly proves that one's lifestyle and all that it entails, is the key to a healthier life. By personal and professional example given by the author, I feel that I actually CAN improve my health, and that I don't have to do it alone. This book is rather short; but that's a good thing in that one will not feel overloaded with useless information.
I own this book, have given copies to others I care about and I urge others to take a look. You'll be glad you did. Three cheers for a wonderful life-improving guide!

There are no gimmicks or magic bullets in this thoroughly accessible, medically sound guide to weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. The author, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a veteran physician, provides a comprehensive description of the physiological and biochemical processes of weight gain to better explain why fad diets simply do not work. And while he stresses the importance of lowering calories, limiting fat consumption and incorporating a routine of aerobic exercise on a day-to-day basis as the most important components of a healthy weight control and fitness in this straightforward, very readable book, he relates how another crucial stategy for success lies in the mind. By instructing the reader in constructive behavior modifications, he offers new hope for overcoming obesity. Chronicling the stories of successful patients in engaging anecdotes, Mind Over Fatter is an upbeat, sensible guide to weight control and fitness that will be invaluable to anyone serious about leading a healthier lifestyle. This book is unlike any that has been published on weight control and fitness.

I have been studying nutrition for over 30 years and the CD program, Mind/Body Nutrition by Marc David has blown my mind. It contains so many cutting-edge revelations that I would do it an injustice to attempt to summarize them. Marc proves that how you feel about food is as important to your health as what you eat. Don't take my word for it--get the CDs and listen to them yourself. All of his points are supported by scientific studies, so he speaks with authority.

If you have an open mind and this program doesn't cause you to view your food and your weight differently, I would be very surprised. This program is worth every penny!

Food have been a major obsession of mine for most of my 50 years. The best diet for maximum health can be difficult to find. There are a lot opinions by so called experts that contradict each other leading to a lot of confusion. I thought that I had heard it all until I listened to this recording. There is lot of extremely useful information to be found here. Absolutely a must for anyone with bad eating habits or digestive problems.

A feast for the body and soul!

I've got two bookshelves full of great books on yoga philosophy, asana (postures), breathing, meditation, nutrition, transformational thought, etc. They all offer great stuff gleaned from both ancient wisdom and modern reality. But when I've looked for one book I could offer my friends and family who are not looking for advice from a Swami or Rinpoche but are seeking support in taking steps towards living their lives more fully, I've been stumped. Molly Fox's Yoga Weight Loss Program offers in an absolutely delightful and digestable form a simple entry into the possibility that body is connected to soul, and compassion towards both is grounded in actions that support self care. Whether you've already got a yoga practice and want to share it with others who are curious or you've been feeling the urge to see what it's about in the simplest terms, this book is food for thought and action you can take in nibbles or absolutely feast upon, getting a heartfelt laugh in all along the way.

More than a yoga book ....... a life lesson.

Molly Fox is the quintessential educator. If you have ever been in her presence, I know you would agree that she is someone extraordinary. She touches people in ways that cannot be described. She is the Patti LaBelle of the fitness world. No one can touch her. This book is from her heart and soul. To give this much information to readers is a gift. She is supportive of all levels and nurturing to everyone. Molly is an earth mother and her message is clear and consistent ..... do what you can and search yourself for what you can do. It is more than yoga. This book illustrates poses clearly and through the text anyone should and will find success. This book is a perfect reference book for the novice and the professional. Well done!

Like many others, I browsed the book when I first got it, but didn't take it seriously. I picked it up again in December 1997 and began applying Joan's principles -- and slowly lost 30 pounds. 63 weeks later, I'm maintaining the loss and am still progressing downward. Thanks, Joan!

Not only is this book an amazing diet book, it's also so funny, touching and filled with interesting stories that it would make a great read for anybody - even if they're not on a diet! Goldberg was the fast food king, and that's what we're really up against on a diet - that blankety blank oasis in the desert of fast food signs everywhere. And that's where Goldberg shines - helping us figure out how to beat them at their own game!

I first read about Fats Goldberg's diet in one of Calvin Trillin's books. At the time, I said to myself, "That diet sounds like a pretty good idea." After finishing the Trillin book, it was always in the back of my mind, but I kept telling myself I would start the diet "soon". Well, fast forward to April 20. I decided to get the book, and read it cover to cover in a day. It was truly an inspiring read.

This book is different from other diet books in that it doesn't promise easy results, or give you a timetable for weight loss. Fats instead dispenses practical adviec on how fat people can shed the pounds, and still feel good. I think of this book more as a lifestyle manual. Instead of just changing your eating habits, the book encourages you to change your lifestyle as well. It doesn't make you restrict any food groups (except fat, of course, but you shouldn't be having a lot of that anyway). Fats also doesn't give you an exact blueprint. Instead, he tells you want worked for him, and encourages the reader to modify the plan as it suits him or her.

Bottom line, this book works. Since I started following the tips, I have lost over 30 lbs. I feel great, and am confident I can keep it off. Go ahead and read this. The least it will cost you is the time it takes to read it. The benefits could be immeasurable.

AN EXCELLENT READ FROM A DOCTOR KNOWN FOR WISE HEALTH PRACTICES

Review Date: 2006-04-08
IN A NUTSHELL:

"Optimum Health" by Stephen Sinatra, M.D., is an very readable examination of our western lifestyle in search of the root causes of some of the most persistent and problematic ailments we face. Dr. Sinatra analyzes, with the use of empirical evidence and recent medical research, some of the ways that specific behaviorial factors may cause or prevent health problems in humans. More importantly, he outlines what steps we can take to help insure better health for ourselves. Most importantly these are steps we can take without major expenses are changes that are difficult to maintain.

BUT -- FORTUNATELY THERE IS MORE -- LOTS MORE:

LIKE MANY OF DR. SINATRA'S BOOKS MUCH IS MADE ABOUT FOOD!

We are what we eat, and Dr. Sinatra never seems to lose sight of that fact. In many of his books, including this one, he details a healthy diet, though in this book he explains why it is healthy more than in some of his other volumes, which leads him into a discussion of Vitamins, minerals, herbs, and supplements and more.

Dr. Sinatra takes hold of specific issues, like "good fat" and "bad fat", and makes a chapter about it, clarifying the 'whats-what' about fats -- very critical to our health that we understand this stuff. He also suggests specific modifications in diet, excercise and specific nutrition, that may have health benefits, without sacrifice.

VITAMINS - MINERALS - CO-ENZYME Q10 - AMINO ACIDS - HERBS - :

The above are just a few examples of the types of topics that are examined with specific applications to our better health in mind. It is particularly satisfying to get this type of information and advice from a cardiologist trained in western allopathic medicine, just like most doctors in this country. In essence, if Dr. Sinatra can utilize 'blended medicine' in his pr

Dr. Sinatra delves into the means by which specific ailments, such as arthritis, heart disease, high cholesterol and others, can be treated with foods, nutritional supplements and a change in diet. He also includes a lucid description of Vitamins, Minerals and other supplements, from the standpoint of their use for maintaining or improving human health.

BOTTOM LINE:

Real good stuff and easily read and enjoyed by almost anybody. Dr. Sinatra has written a number books in the field that include, "Naturally lowering your blood pressure - in just 6 weeks" , and others. I have read, "How To Lower Your Blood Pressure In 6 Weeks" - and it has helped me to safely utilize some non-drug alternatives to augment the extensive use of anti-hypertension drugs that I have lived with for decades. This book is similar, but it has a much broader focus, making it more important and useful to a greater number of people.

How to stay healthy and live longer.

Dr. Stephen Sinatra is a board-certified cardiologist who has thoroughly researched the true causes of the diseases which plague modern Americans, including various forms of heart disease plus cancer and various degenerative diseases. He has discovered that most of these diseases are caused by faulty eating habits and lack of certain essential nutrients. This excellent book discusses these and other factors in highly-readable terms. If you read this book and implement the simple factors which it recommends you can improve your health and add healthy years to your life. That seems very worthwhile to me. I hope that it does to you too.

The difference between "Overweight: A Handbook for Teens and Parents" and others that I have read on obesity is that this book is more welcoming to anybody interested in the subject. While it provides a lot of useful information to any parents or adults that find themselves or their children with a weight problem, it is also an easy read for teenagers. The book provides stories from teenagers who have experienced the same problems that most teenagers now are experiencing, which makes it easy for them to relate to. If you are looking for a book that will provide you with all the information you will need to know about obesity, and that will not bore you by simply spitting out fact after fact, I would highly recommend picking up "Overweight: A Handbook for Teens and Parents".
