Good book, and CDs are good too

If you cannot find the original, 1985 version of Thin Within by Judy Wardell, get this book. Body Esteem is a workbook with several detailed exercises to help you work through issues you may have that could be preventing you from getting rid of that weight, along with pages of useful tips and advice. The CDs are also pleasant to listen to, which is not always the case with this type of book. Even if you do have Thin Within, this is a good companion to it.

My only quibble with this book is that it is into banning certain foods (albeit mostly junk foods and certain ingredients). I like the Wardell approach much better--if you know you can have whatever you want, whenever you want, you eventually don't want it as much. Yes, of course make better choices where possible, but the occasional indulgence is not going to ruin an overall healthy eating/exercise plan.

4.5 stars.

Fianally after years of being on Weight Watchers and working out every day, then loosing and gaining my weight over and over again. I decided to work on my mind. I tried other selfhypnosis CDs and they did start to sink in. But Body Esteem really gets to the source of the eating and helps to deal with the issues that kept me over eating even healthy food. Sherri's voice is so soothing and the imagry is so vivid I look foreward to going with her into the places she takes you. I am changing how I eat and can see my goals as a reality instead of impossable. I am loosing regularly now and don't have a disire to cheat or self sabatouge my eating. i have recomended this book to others at my Weight Watcher meetings to help them stay on prgram.

I am, like so many others, a veteran of the weight loss "wars". What Sherri's book and CD's made me realize is that a good deal of the "war" I was fighting was within myself. With the insight and tools I have learned, I am beginning to change the way I think about myself, the way I respond in situations regarding food and for the first time I am hopeful that I can continue my weight loss and more importantly-sustain it. Thanks to this wonderful work, I am now gainig insight instead of weight. I recommend this valuable tool as a great guide for weight loss-and life.

This book was a Godsend for me. For the first time since I can remember I survived the holidays without gaining anything! And for me that is saying a lot. Holidays are always a stressful time full of parties and just the kind of food I turn for a little support.

After New Year's I always make the same resolution to lose weight. And every year I've lost some and gained it back (plus a few more and another dress size). Yet this year, thanks in large part to "Body Esteem," I know it's going to be different. I can feel it and I also have proof that I can do it (I still fit in my clothes and I've actually lost weight).

I haven't been able to do the book as much as I'd like, but I've been listening to the CDs almost every night all comfy in bed. I sometimes drift to sleep, which is great because I normally have a little difficulty getting to sleep anyway, but the messages are certainly sinking in. I'm not going to say its like magic, but it's really given me a new level of self-love and commitment to myself. And it's like I don't have to work at losing weight so much as I just want to take better care of my body.

There's a lot of good practical information as well as self-exploration exercises in the book, which I found very useful and the CDs are fantastic. I think anyone would benefit from this wonderful book.

I love this book. After the first couple of weeks I started to lose weight. I feel great, I love the CD's and I, like the other people who reviewed this book, just feel like taking better care of myself. I've been eating a lot healthier and I don't want junk food as much. I don't know if it is the CD's that you listen to daily or the workbook but I've finally found something that works for me! This book is great!

For the most part, I am enjoying this book. The diet is based on the food pyramid, and the exercise program has do-able daily choices. My only complaints are the following: First, the page quality is very poor. I felt like I had to be really careful turning the pages or they would tear. Second, some of the exercise photos show very poor form, like knees extending past ankles is lunges. All in all, it's a good book.

If you want a no nonsense fitness plan to follow then this book is for you! This book contains a large menu section that covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I really liked the fact that it listed the recipes for many of the meals. There are three levels of exercise plans including stretches. Absolutely everything is spelled out for you, there is no guesswork. You can say goodbye to calorie counting, pre-packaged meals and supplements. The bottom line is: This book works.

An excellent book! I found this to be the most comprehensive, informative and easy to understand health-related book I've ever read. It refocuses the long-time emphasis away from weight control and calorie counting to the real health problem facing millions of Americans: Fat. It clearly defines the problem and the best way to tackle it. Not only does it include lots of exercises designed to fight fat, it also devotes many pages to nutrition, diet, menus and the psychology of improving over-all health by reducing the percentage of fat in ones body. It's the kind of book you can continually refer to. It's already helped me look and feel better. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to avoid fad diets and deceptive weight-loss schemes.

The author covers all the bases: nutritional facts, advice from successful winners in the war against fat and industry professionals, how to deal with emotional issues that can contribute to weight gain, menu plans that you can follow, meal templates that teach you how to create meal plans that incorporate your personal favorites, sensible exercise guidelines, and shopping tips. Whew! So if fat loss is what you're after, buy this book and you'll be well on your way to a healthier, leaner, and fitter you!

I like this book a lot. First of all, the authors have proper credentials (a lot of authors don't, even some celebrity diet gurus). One author is an M.S./R.D. who works as a nutritionist; the other is an M.D. who works with weight loss/obesity. For those of you looking for a quick fix, I'm sorry, you won't find it here! This is an informative, sensible guide to eating healthfully and losing weight gradually (c'mon, we all know that diets don't work). This book explains why you want to eat healthfully -- which nutrients your body needs, and how you can get them. In addition, it stresses the importance of exercise and makes you want to get moving. The authors don't expect you to never again eat junk food, but call for including it occasionally in a balanced, planned way of eating. Another thing I liked was the fact that this book addresses psychological issues as well -- it makes you examine why you eat, and includes a lot of motivational help. Note to vegetarians: Your needs are addressed throughout.

Diet-Step 20 Grams/20 Minutes -- A Tool for Healthy Living

Review Date: 2002-01-08
"Remember, you live in your body and you do not have to make drastic changes in order to feel good about yourself." With these words, Stutman sets the tone for his latest book on diet and exercise for women. Diet-Step: 20 Grams/20 Minutes is a positive, encouraging book written with a woman's physiological makeup and special concerns in mind.

In the first section, Stutman describes the Diet-Step plan, a low-fat and high-fiber diet that provides a well-balanced, varied selection of foods. He explains the dangers of fad diets and offers both quick weight-loss and maintenance eating plans. He suggests that readers eat no more than twenty grams of fat and no less than twenty grams of fiber daily at the beginning of the program, with small increases on the maintenance plan. The "Fat and Fiber Counter" in the middle of the book is an excellent quick reference to supplement the eating plans.

In the second section, Stutman outlines the Fit-Step plan, which consists of at least twenty minutes of walking or other aerobic exercise each day, and the Trim-Step plan to firm up muscles. He describes the effects of exercise on weight, health, appearance, and overall quality of life. He translates hours exercised into calories burned and is careful to point out safety issues for exercisers.

Stutman's medical expertise and research background are obvious throughout this book. For example, he urges the reader to assume a healthy eating lifestyle rather than to "go on a diet." He explains the body's attempts to conserve fat when a person adheres to an overly restrictive diet, the psychology of the binge eating/dieting cycle, and the importance of combining eating well with vigorous exercise. Stutman bases the eating and exercise plans on the most current research about metabolism and exercise physiology.

The use of underlining for emphasis in some parts of the book is distracting, but it is balanced by an informal writing style. Subtitles such as "Fearsome Fats," "Dangerous Dieting," and Women Who Sat Didn't Burn Fat" are amusing, as are the cartoons that illustrate the text. The overall tone of the book is relaxed and enjoyable, yet authoritative. The greatest strength of Diet-Step: 20 Grams/20 Minutes is that it is more than a diet and exercise book. It is a tool for healthy living.

Dr. Stutman offers a new book on weight loss. The basis of the book - 20 Grams of fat a day, 20 minutes of walking a day - is basic common sense. However, Dr. Stutman writes in an engaging manner, keeping the pages turning as he slips in a lot of useful information.

There are sample menus to stay on track with the proper distribution of fat, protein and carbohydrates. Dr. Stutman goes over the fiber content in various foods, the different types of fat, how veggies are full of all sorts of good stuff and help fight disease...I could go on, but this book is worth reading to find out for yourself.

The other focus in this book is exercise. Dr. Stutman goes over the various types of aerobic exercise, though he spends the most time on his registered Fit-Step Program. Fit-Step is about walking, though the category is rather broader than that since dancing is one type of "Step."

For a common sense approach to weight loss, good health and a plan that can last a lifetime, I recommend DIET-STEP 20/20 FOR WOMEN ONLY!

The Doctor's easy 2-step quick weight-loss & fitness plan is based on the 20 fat grams/20 fiber grams theory. It features a 20 minute walking program in conjunction with strength training exercises and a no-calorie counting eating plan.

The program is geared to developing a healthy life style for women that also helps reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, osteoporosis, hypertension, depression and certain types of cancer.

If you've tried everything and nothing has worked, try this. It's healthy and you may discover the secret to a more beautiful (or handsome) and healthy you.

Practicing ob-gyn J. Ron Eaker, M.D. presents Fat Proof Your Family: God's Way to forming Healthy Habits for Life, a guide especially for Christians to maintaining not only one's own health, but also teaching positive eating habits to the whole family. Fat Proof Your Family is not a "quick-fix" book, but rather emphasizes the importance of making lifelong changes for the better. From the basics of nutrition, to the importance of setting an example for one's children through one's actions ("Do as I say... and as I do!") to the value of exercise and what the Bible has to say about healthy eating, Fat Proof Your Family features both sound medical and spiritual backing. "No fad diet, miracle drug, exercise machine, or surgical procedure can be as comprehensive a solution to fat-proofing your family as God's Owner's Manual... Bible study is one cog in the wheel of the healing triad of mind, body, and spirit. It addresses specific spiritual needs that are frequently ignored in the healing process." Highly recommended.

This is the book I have been looking for! It can be overwelming trying to understand all the nutrition lingo. Do I watch calories, fat, sugar, carbs??? I want to know how each of these things work in my body and how much is too much or too little. Dr. Eaker does a fantastic job of educating you on what these things are and why they are all good for us IN MODERATION. You see so many people jumping on these quick fix diet fads just to loose weight and then gain it all back. Dr. Eaker doesn't propose a diet fad. He EDUCATES you on the food you and your family eat and helps you to understand what you are feeding your family. He states many times that the best way to loose fat and to keep it off is to make good food choices and exercise. What a novel idea!! I choose to do this for myself and this book has helped me to understand why it is important that I educate my children too. I am the one who buys the food at the grocery store. If I buy the sugar cereal of course they will eat it. I am excited about incorporating what I have read and learned into our family. My kids are actually excited and want to learn this. Yeah!
Anther very important point. The fact that this is a Christian based book seperates it from all the rest. The Bible is our guidebook for life and therefore we should look to it for everything - including nutrition. I never knew I could learn so much about good eating habits from scripture. It all makes sense. I could go for days on why I am excited about this but instead I will just recommend this book to everyone I know. I look forward to teaching my kids good eating habits that they will take into their adult lives. I will also lead by example. Thanks Ron for taking the time to write this for us. You are awesome!!

Never before have I taken the time to write a book review. This book
however, is a must for all families. Fat Proof Your Family God's Way To
Forming Healthy Habits For Life, is an informative book about the
proper choices in diet and exercise. It is also a book that encourages us to change our lifestyle - not only for our sake but for the sake of our children. As a mother of three, it is my job and God's directive to teach my family the benefit of proper choices. This book has really encouraged me to change my way of thinking about eating. Hopefully, it is not too late to instill some good habits for the future health of my children.
Dr. Eaker's book also encourages one to look to the Bible. Below, from page 108, the author writes:
"Food is a gift from God. If we heed his admonitions, we will find health and happiness. Many principles from Scripture are wonderful in their simplicity. In Scripture, virtually every mention of food is celebrated, meals are meaningful, and moderation is rewarded. If you accept and adopt these simple precepts, you can take a major step forward in fat-proofing your family."
Thank you Dr. Eaker your book has been a great motivator!

Don't you hate it when doctors get too cerebral when writing about their specialties? I'm not sure if they're trying to impress their readers with a lot of big words, or if they honestly believe that they hold us spellbound with their foreign dialect that neither informs nor excites. Usually, I'm left with a feeling of inadequacy, unable to understand what must be obvious to a child.

Thank god for Dr. Eaker! He clearly has a heart for helping people regain their vitality and quality of life. Best of all, the information is accessible and easily applied to everyday behavior.

If you are looking for a book on how to lose weight, get more energy, and just plain feel better, then this is the book for you. Dr. Ron Eaker's "Fat-Proof Your Family" is a joy to read and will reshape your view of food (not to mention your figure).

Stop the yo-yo dieting and buy this book!

As you read this book, you will feel like you are being cheered on. Just as you begin to think that the task of lifelong fitness and health might be a bit overwhelming, you will come to a corny joke that will lighten your mood. However, the gravity of the facts presented about the sedentary lifestyle and poor nutrition that many families and children have adopted are incontrovertible.

He presents a balanced approach to health (for both adults and children) as opposed to a cosmetic weight-loss fix, as you can see in some of the chapter titles. Dr. Eaker maintains that nothing happens in a vacuum, and so healthy living is more attainable when the whole family is involved. This really hit home with me. When I try to eat better for myself, I can often fail, but when I resolve to help my family eat healthier, that extra bit of motivation often helps me along.

How many times have the cookies that you bought for the kids sabotoged your diet? Well, they don't need them either. How many times have you made excuses that you don't have time to exercise because of your children? Get out and kick around a soccer ball with them to benefit all of you. We are helping them to form lifelong patterns of health and fitness, and it's our responsibility to help train them right.

Bronwyn has captured a process that applies to me individually. It is simple, and clear. Her message is powerful and meaningful. I appreciate her sharing herself and demonstrating the application of living a spiritual solution to weigh-loss. I love the shift from the lie to the truth, which is huge in over-coming food addiction. Emotional eating no longer creates a helpless and hopeless feeling for me, as remembering to use the principles and suggestions in Bronwyn's book empowers me to make healthy decisions.

The most honest and loving "self help" book I have read. (And I have read MANY.) This book leads the reader on a journey of self exploration while modeling self acceptance and compassion. It speaks to the heart and heals the soul. The principles in this book apply to every aspect of life, and are truly life changing.

This book is such a fantastic reference book. I am in Phase 2 of the protocol and although you can find much information on the web, it is so much easier having it so well organized and contained in one place. The information provided about following the program, added with the nutritional information, graphs and resources make it easy and foolproof.

This guide was an incredible help to me while I was going through the protocol. It has charts, instructions, guidelines, lists of what to buy and where to buy them, listings of very helpful websites, plus so much more. It also has the complete manuscript of Dr. Simeon's Pounds and Inches which you must have a copy of if you plan to do this protocol. It is very much worth the money. I even bought a second one for my doctor, who knew nothing about this diet. I would highly recommend this book.

I am on my second session of HCG shots on the Simeons Protocol. I lost 30 pounds first session and need to lose 20 more. I'm sorry I didn't have this guide the first session - it is EXTREMELY helpful. In addition to explaining everything in easy-to-understand detail, this book clarifys the foods you can eat during the 3-6 weeks following the shots (Simeons was a bit vague regarding Sugars and Starches). The book is worth twice the price.

I'm gonig on the hCG program in four days!!!!

I was turned down for Lap-Band surgery and was looking for alternatives - doctors not opting out of Medicare coverage patients needing bariatric treatments.
Until I read this ebook, I did not understand or know about Dr. Simeon's "Pounds & Inches". It is easy reading and factual.
Kevin Tredeau's book was also read but it is more complex- requiring more products and not easily understood.
Because of hCG procedure can be sublingual ( drops under the tongue) rather than injections, I am beginning the procedure on Nov. 19th, 2007 in Washington state.
This Cure Guide also contains in the Appendix: Dr. Simeons' Manuscript. Well worth the READ! Lu Alcid

Reading this woman's book was like drinking from a cool stream on a hot day. Everything in our media instructs us to loathe ouselves. Not intentionally, of course. (Ya, right.) Permission is one of the most powerful things we can give each other and it's all thru our own living. Caplin does a wonderfully fun and honest job at sharing her own story, poking fun at our own paranoia and challenging our paradigms all at the same time. Thank God someone is finally speaking up and calling a spade a spade. We are all beautiful in our own right, DAMMIT! This CURVOLUTION should be TELEVISED!

Quirky, fun + honest to boot!

I was looking through the options for yet another 'get fit quick' book and stumbled across I'm Beautiful Dammit!
What a refreshing change it was to read about not trying to change everything about what makes us US but to take a moment to reflect on the beauty that's inside us all. The fact that this is well written was icing on the cake.
I'm now waging my own Curvolution!

I just want to say thank you to Rachel for opening up and exposing herself, sharing her struggle with body acceptance and inspiring me with her suggestions and stories of success. I am not alone as I know many women struggle with the illusion of a "perfect" body which first of all is nearly impossible to obtain yet alone sustain. This book is a breath of fresh air and a powerful tool for any person that is looking for inspiration and some truth into the epidemic we are living in. Rachel, Thank you! I can't wait for your next book!

All I can say about Rachel Caplin and her excellent book is HALLELUJAH and a hearty thank you! Being a woman who has had ongoing weight and body image issues since 3rd grade, this book is a godsend. Rachel's style is charming, honest and captivating and her message of body acceptance is SO necessary in a society where I can scarcely think of a gathering of women where weight and body issue does not come up, usually in the context of shame and self-loathing. This book is the perfect antidote to a culture obsessed with unnatural expectations of women.

After reading this I "got it." The upshot--yes, take care of yourself, eat healthy and get regular, moderate exercise, but do NOT feel any less beautiful if you cannot wear a size 0, or if you had a slice of pizza today or if you didn't run 10 miles a day this week. We have all heard this before but it is time we all started to walk the walk: beauty not only comes from within, it also comes in all sizes and shapes! That is not preachy, it is fact.

This book made me want to just go out there and shine. Rather than tear one another down, we women must unite and recognize that there are many faces of beauty--not just the one very slim (pun intended) definition forced down our throats by the media. And we should all give ourselves a break from the constant self-criticism as well!! This book is a positive, uplifting leap in the right direction--GO RACHEL!! Heartily recommended!
