I am a health concious, homemaker, who was looking for a recipe book to please my whole family (husband and 3 young kids). I really like this book because the recipes are simple and fast. You use regular ingredients (which is good for the budget), and it tastes good. It is based on good advice for your health. If you are looking for a way to improve your health at any age, the "eat right" program is the way to go.

Concise and easy to read with lots of examples--obviously a competant Professor writing here. Reviews and ties together all the studies about the Mediterranean diet vis a vi the "French Paradox" whereby the French eat a diet high in cholesterol and fat and yet have a low heart attack rate. By the end of the book the reader will fully understand all the risk factors and their solutions for heart disease whether he lives in Peoria or Paris.

After I got a high cholesterol reading, I started looking for ways to lower it naturally. By the time I got my next reading, my results were much better, but still high so I looked for a practical book about cholesterol and found The Everything Low Cholesterol Book.

Each chapter takes a certain aspect of dealing with cholesterol and explores it in depth. You learn what your test results mean and how to improve them in easy to follow practical ways.

There are chapters on weight management, getting active, stress management, chapters on all the different medications available, and even chapters on wonderful sounding recipes. I'm almost finished reading the book and when I am, I'll put it in the kitchen as a reference guide and cook book. It's very upbeat and leaves you in control of lowering your high numbers.

I highly recommend this book for anybody who wants a good overview of cholesterol that isn't so scientific you have to slog through it, but still educates the layman completely on the subject.

This book is an eye opener. More like deer in the headlights shock...to find out that all the chemicals in processed foods and possibly the insecticides used in our produce can slowly be poisoning our systems is a real shocker for me! I've wondered what all the fuss is about for "organic" foods. Now I know. My mother had fibro and now all my brothers and sisters and myself also have fibromyalgia! I believe we will be eating more organic foods. The severe pain we suffer with throughout our entire bodies has got to stop! Why aren't the produce farmers listening? This is definitely a book everyone with fibro should read. A must for your library!

This guide is extremely to use. It provides sample menus that you'd see at French and Italian restaurants. Then you are provided with descriptions of each dish and how it is prepared and the ingredients used. From there you are provided with specific considerations as to how the preparation or ingredient list may affect you if you have Gluten or Allergen issues.

This book is the size of a passport, easy to carry in a pocket or purse, organized and well written. The French and Italian Cuisine Passport is perfect for making choices while traveling, or while dining at your favorite local restaurant.

Works better than low carbs
Helpful Votes: 36 out of 37 total.
Review Date: 2003-02-14
By concentrating on the low GI foods the authors recommend, I've been able to keep my blood sugar stable between 80 and 120 all day and night. I'm full without feeling stuffed or sick, and I get to eat a wide range of low cost, perfectly normal foods. No more expensive snack bars or costly meat, meat, meat!

I tried low carbs and those plans didn't work for me. With low carbs, my blood sugar would tank before meals triggering horrible migrain symptoms. I don't get that any more and can just eat normally, without forcing myself to eat for fear of getting hungry and triggering a headache or the dreaded blue flashes. I really do feel so much better and my blood sugar testing clearly shows that my sugar is well controlled even after a high carb meal, provided I eat the carbs recommended in The Glucose Revolution.

I think you'll be suprised at how easy and satisfying these foods are. Normal foods. Normal eating schedule. Normal blood sugar levels. Gotta love it. This booklet is well, well worth the money. Don't hesitate to buy it.

Don't be fooled by title - much more than just cooking tips
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.

I was pleasantly surprised that the book goes far beyond gluten-free cooking tips and recipes. I have read Korn's other 3 books, and all have been tremendously helpful, and even inspiring. The gluten-free diet can be a shocker (give up your beer, your bread, your tasty baked treats, etc.), but the author somehow makes it easy to understand the nuances of this tricky diet. You feel like you are getting one-on-one expert advice in an easygoing, relaxed style. It's weird, but you feel like you know the author after reading the book. The book is even funny.

For anyone starting out on a gluten-free diet, any of Korn's books are winners. If you also like to cook, this is a double dose of education. You will probably refer to it often. Highly recommended on all counts.
