A delightful book for children, girls and boys alike,

We own the 1959 edition of this book, with Mom and Dad straight out of a Gimble's advertisement, and all the astronauts sport Johnny Unitas buzz cut flat tops. After page three and a cheery wave goodbye to Mom not a woman is to be seen in this most male of explorations (unless you count the Garrison cap on the soda jerk at the space station). "Space, the final frontier...." Indeed.

My daughter loves it.

I mean, she loves it.

The illustrations look like John Water's camp to me now, and the text reads like the pulp science fiction/science fact from which it drew its inspiration, and the whole thin veneer of science on the tale is a mess. My favourite is the "Diner" at the space station where two regular guys are getting a cup-o-joe while a soda jerk in a white paper Garrison cap serves them.

But it is a children's book, so it doesn't matter. The Cat-In-The-Hat could pop up on the last page and no child would bat an eyelash until they are 10 years old.

Innocent in a way that the "back to The Future" movies aren't. A delightful book for children, girls and boys alike.

I loved it as a preschooler.

I remember this book well, although not perfectly, from thirty years ago. I thought back to it occasionally, and a few things cleared up.

Even with an illustration of it, I missunderstood the description of the mooncar going through the crater. For some reason, I imagined the car falling down a deep hole, driving across the bottom, and floating back up the other side.

The illustrator did get one thing wrong: The text described tiny rockets firing to turn the spaceship. The picture showed the spaceship going around in a loop, when in reality, it continued going straight in its path, just rotating to point the tail toward the moon.

When reading it, I always wondered how we got back to Earth. It seemed to me a whole lot more dangerous.

Great book with two different printings

I agree with all of the reviews posted here I was learning to read in the late sixtes/early seventies and I remember this book very well. I must have read it a few hundred times.
Well, imagine my surprise last week when my dad found it in the attic and asked if I wanted it for my 4 year old. As I dug into the pile of books he found I found not only my copy, but my sisters edition from 10 years earlier. The c-right on my sisters was dated 1959 mine was 1971. The art and the text were redone. The same authors but two different illustrators. By 1971 we had a functioning moon program and we were a more "politically correct" society.
The art in the 59 edition is more in the vein of 50's fantasy. One of the big draws in the 59 edition is that you will be able to see what's going on by watching a Television. The 71 edition is clearly based on Apollo. In the 59 edition there are no female "Spacemen", by 71 one there are female astronauts in the book.
Seeing the two side by side is a great history lesson. and a real trip down memory lane for me.

But Alas, I Still Can't Get to the Moon!

This is an "impressionable" book of colossal proportions. The subject matter absolutely fascinated, inspired, challenged, and motivated a generation of American "rocket scientists" that would eventually come to operate the Space Shuttle and the Space Station. I am one of those. Born in 1960, I would end up participating in a work-study program with NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center, earn an Aerospace Engineering degree, and operate the Space Shuttle--on the ground, that is! Of course, I am sure it stimulated many others that chose different fields of endeavor.

As a young "Cat In The Hat" reader I was enormously fascinated with this book. Yes, this book was distributed by mail to many young readers, right along with "Green Eggs and Ham." What a time in history to begin learning. Imagine training to read with the imagination of Dr. Suess, to experience the creativity of Walt Disney, and be exposed to a vision of space travel by Wernher von Braun and his followers--all while the Mercury, Gemini and Saturn/Apollo programs hit the headlines and the TV screens!

With over forty years having passed, I suggest reading it again-or for the first time. On the one hand, you will find that much is fulfilled. Alas, on the other hand, the fact that the title is addressed to "YOU" should cause us all to reflect on the promises one generation makes to another...and inspire us all to action once again. This time to enable all those who would like to Go To The Moon!

Kennedy-era optimism I've never forgotten

This was one of the first books I was ever given, sometime certainly before my second birthday. Twenty-eight years later I get a chill down my spine recalling the detailed, Von Braun-meets-Chesley Bonestell elucidation of how I "was" heading spaceward. I believed it, too - the rest of my life, as exciting as it's been in so many ways, has been a bit of a disappointment by contrast. Seminal and a bit melancholy, too - reality has been so tawdry ever since.

I have read few books that can artistically work with esoteric content without getting trite, awkward or moralistic. In my opinion, "The Celestine Prophecy" is a figment that should have been left sealed in the author's imagination. "Zanoni" on the other hand is a tale with an intriguing plot that all the while leads the reader into unexpected and profound esoteric content. This is a book I will be returning to read several more times.

Very mind expanding and thrilling.

Zanoni is a wonderful romance story as well as an eye-opener to the possibilities within humankind. It is not a true story. However it is indeed true in many senses.

WOW!!!People are FINALLY catching on to this book of GREAT Occult literature. Too bad we have to use the word Occult. It reads like a roller coaster ride. Pure Class. I have read this Gem at least three times, and still cry at the end of it. REALLY! Most people don't know that Lytton was a member of Parlement in London, and was a good friend of Dickens, too. His books are not of Dicken's popularity, but this one was his best work. I read once that he went to a seance and a spirit rapped out to him there, "I am the spirit that influnced you to write Z (Zanoni)". He wrote dozens of novels, and plays, and confessed that of all of them "Zanoni" was his favorite book, that he had written. He was also renowned to be one of the leaders of a Rosicrucian group in London, too. Why do I tell you all of this? Because he was Genius and this work of art is, too! Lytton, also, said, "It (Zanoni) is a truth for those who can comprehend it, and an extravagance for those that can't". A more beautiful Romance there has never been written about, except for, maybe, Romeo and Juliet. There is much TRUTH within these pages. I love this book, and it has blessed me, truly, for reading it. Buy the book, period.

This is one of the great masterpieces of occult fiction, astonishing considering when it was written. It was an important influence on the later esoteric movements of the late 1800s and early 1900s. It is usually beautifully written, but does have parts which are a little slow going. The author is also obsessed with the French Revolution, you will actually find Robespierre as a character in the book! The best parts -- the premiere of the opera of the violinist, the description of Mejnour's castle, the Greek island, the calling of Adon-Ai, are unforgettable.

I've learned eight or nine different sales strategies over the years. I assumed ZenWise Selling was just another spin on the same old tune: techniques to 'buddy up' to prospects until you can effectively pitch them. While this book touches on standard prospecting and presenting, it mainly focuses on the individual doing the selling. Why are they doing this? What makes them tick? I really appreciated the 'fill in the blank' exercises. (My first answers weren't always the most correct.) If you want something that touches the heart of the salesperson, buy this book.

A handbook of how to sell respectfully and ethically

We talk a lot about marketing. And one-to-one contact is, of course, a major piece of the larger marketing pie. The act of meeting with a prospect, or speaking to one over the telephone, and convincing that person that your products and services can fill a need, solve a problem, or make an improvement is one of the most badly practiced arts around--so many people don't have a clue about how to sell ethically and in a way that fully respects the prospect.

Therefore, it's always nice to recommend a resource that can improve the selling experience for both seller and buyer. I recommend a few such books in the Principled Pro fit bibliography, which is now posted on the website. And I'm always glad to find more.

Lee Godden sent me a copy of his new book, ZenWise Selling, and he's clearly based in exactly that kind of wisdom. He espouses a gentle, mindful selling orientation that replaces the aggressive hard sell. Instead, he suggests really listing, ethical behavior, and accepting the ups and downs of the process as a keen observer of the world, as opposed to as someone who gets bent out of shape by every little setback.

Godden is a Zen practitioner, and there's certainly quite a bit about meditative techniques and general Zen practices, as well as a nice little history of Zen at the end of the book. But he isn't preachy, and even if you don't see yourself meditating, there's much here that will be useful and practical for anyone in sales.

And actually, while reading this book, I had an emergency root canal on one of my teeth. I let Lee's message flow over me, and achieved a meditative state in the dentist's chair that made the procedure a lot less painful, and the recovery a lot faster, than it might have been.

"Zen Wise Selling" is about achieving the Holy Grail of sales - clearing your mind, finding calm and peace within yourself, and selling without any stress despite looming deadlines, quotas, and other standard fare of sales. Scattered throughout the book are multiple exercises to help the reader find that peace inside their self. This peace translates into a stronger personal aura and a strong sense of presence.

One of the most important points of the book besides establishing this internal peace is to approach each sales opportunity from a fresh viewpoint with no preconceptions. This allows an honest relationship to develop between the customer and salesperson and a true partnership. This is selling with integrity at it's best. "Zen Wise Selling" is not a sales techniques book but a book on the foundation that underlies all relationships, including sales. The information in sales techniques books can then be applied to this foundation. Sell more, less stress, more peace, achieve the Zen of selling. "Zen Wise Selling" is a highly recommended book.

As an educator I found this book to be a "must read" for students of all
ages. The reader gains a better understanding of what positive business
gains can be made when hiring within the disabled community. Further, the
author writes the book in a manner that allows you to know the "heroes"
within the company and gain a personal appreciation for what each one brings
to the work place, ultimately allowing a better understanding of the talents
a truly diverse workforce brings to enhancing the business and the lives of
each individual.

I hope this is only the beginning of Nancy Henderson Wurst's career in book
writing. Her ability to help the reader know and understand the lives of
the people she writes about is a true gift to the reader. This book is for
everyone willing to learn.

I am lucky enough to know David Morris personally, he is an inspiration in my life. Nancy Henderson Wurst captures in this book what David brings to the world, and we all need to know that compassion CAN live in the successful business world. I've also been lucky enough to meet some of those who David hired, persons who were "unhirable" by traditional standards. Wow, what a thing it is to see ABLE where others see "disabled". Just imagine what that does for that person. David brings compassion, harmony and ease into the bigtime corporate world and into the lives of everyone around him. Seeing David live his life, run his business and accept others is a major catalyst for the creation of a new business venture I am bringing to the world. Just last night I figured out how to also involve ABLED persons into the mix! It took 2 months of brainstorming but now I get to also try to make a little difference in the world, and I feel great ..thanks to David! No kidding, if you are a business person who has a yearning to also contribute to the world AS you do business then you should read this little book, I bet you WILL find some possibilities in there that will bring beauty to your life ..and to others. Have a good day.

Since then, I have bought at least 8 copies. The first copy I let a friend borrow. They liked it so much that I let them keep it as a gift. After this happened with my next copy, I ordered 5 copies all of which I have given away. This last copy that I purchased I promised myself that I would keep. Every time that I didn't have one, I missed being able to look up all the information that I wanted to know. He very clearly connects the accu-pressure points with the yoga positions. As you can see, I love this book.

I'd agree that Gach writes a very straight forward and simple book. If you are a beginner to the acupressure/kinesiology world, you will easily understand the basics [with the aid of this book]. The book gives many useful points, but for general problems most of the time. His knowledge in some promblematic areas goes into more depth than others. So, if you are looking for help with a specific problem, little information might be given or non at all. For example, the book gives great explanations and cures for colds, indegestion, depression and headache, however, it explains very little about allergies and sinuses. Gach backs his explanations with a strong facts and basic common sense.

I think that the book could give a better explanation on how to stimulate points. The diagrams of the locations of points are very useful and understandable. Overall, the book is well organized and convienent. If done correctly, the Yoga exercises are very powerful. With just a couple of exercises you can be healed instantly. This book left me curious buy more books on acupressure and is great reference to find quick cures.

This is the one book that I recommend for anyone interested in yoga and overall health. By combining postures with meridians, (flows of energy thruout the body)and specific organs of the body, the information gives the yoga practitioner a more complete sense of the benefits of that posture. This also allows for a better focus, more mindfulness of the posture and intent. The photos and essays are clear and easy to view. Enjoy!

This is by far my favorite Yoga book. I have been practicing Hatha Yoga for years (Hatha Yoga is the physical Yoga that is the most common form in the Western world), but have discovered that many of the techniques and sets of asanas (exercises) described in Yoga books were not very tuned in to Westerners. Acu-Yoga combines Acupressure and Hatha Yoga into a very palatable form for the common Westerner. It is the best book I've seen as of yet for anyone suffering an acute or chronic disease or symptom. There are symptomatic exercises for such discomforts as the common cold, sinus problems, menstrual tension to exercises for more serious problems such as hypertension and spinal disorders. I have often warded off an oncoming flu or cold by following some of the advice in Acu-Yoga. There is additional supplemental advice from Michael Gach, in terms of lifestyle and nutritional imbalances - and very effective solutions to bring our bodies back into a state of harmony.

For instance, on our natural resistance to illness, Gach writes: "An ancient Indian method for maintaining resistance against illness is to swing a thick branch or club back and forth. The Yogis would do this when they felt any illness about to come on, since it was common knowledge that the tensions which accumulate between the shoulder blades contribute to illness. The swinging motion helped break down this tension. Swinging a baseball bat around moves and stretches the shoulder blades to release the tensions that collect there."

He goes on to describe the exact acupressure points around the tips of the shoulder blades, and then delves into a Yoga asana to help alleviate the oncoming flu or cold. Every exercise is complete with both a photo and an illustration, which details precisely his written directions. I have a terrible time learning physical things from books, even when they have illustrations and photos, but I have never had difficulty from Acu-Yoga.

Even if you aren't prone to illness or a symptomatic approach isn't for you, Acu-Yoga is split into 5 parts: a general introduction to the philosophies and practices of yoga and acupressure, a series of exercises based on the meridians (channels) of acupressure, a whole-body self-treatment emphasizing flexibility of the spine, a series of exercises that balance the chakras, and then the Acu-Yoga postures that benefit specific conditions.

This is a perfect book for the Westerner just beginning to practice Yoga, and for anyone who has an interest in expanding their current horizons of Hatha Yoga and Acupressure.

An excellent, informative introduction to acupressure.

Acu-Yoga is a well-written introduction to the use of basic yoga techniques to stimulate acupuncture points throughout the body, acupressure. 13 years ago, I cracked a vertebra and have had chronic low back pain ever since. The spinal flexibility series (among others) in Mr. Reed's book helped me control the pain caused by muscle spasm and return to normal function within a few weeks. Acu-Yoga also provides information about the chakras, the organ meridians and the eight regulatory channels, and how these energetic systems work to restore and preserve internal balance. For someone who is interested in using gentle, self-paced exercise to relieve pain and improve in overall health and vitality, this is an excellent resource.

In my clinical practice I treat and evaluate children and adults with ADHD. I always recommend this book to parents who have children with attention problems in order for them to get a complete objective overview of the disorder and the treatments that are available.
This book explains in simple language the current medical definition of ADHD and why you need a complete evaluation in order to receive an accurate diagnosis. It contains a thorough discussion of the treatment options available for the parents and child. It encourages parents to become the "case manager" of their child's treatment. In order to understand how and what treatment is best for your child you need to understand what the scientific research has shown works and does not work in treating this disorder. It is then possible to make educated choices for your child.
This book is published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and they have done an excellent job in bringing a factual and complete guide for parents to understand ADHD. I recommend it as the first book to read when you are researching this problem.

Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics without commercial involvement of any kind, ADHD: A Complete And Authoritative Guide is a "must-have" reference and resource for parents addressing the phenomenon of Attention- Defecit Disorder with Hyperactivity in children. Chapters address identification and diagnosis, commonly coexisting conditions, treatment options, the role of medications, behavior therapy, helping one's ADHD child succeed in school, unproven treatments for ADHD, and much more. A disclaimer warns that the vital information in ADHD: A Complete And Authoritative Guide is meant as a supplement for a physician's diagnosis and recommendations, not a replacement, yet its vital and meticulous accuracy and tested methodologies are a blessing to anyone involved in the raising or care of ADHD children.

If you think you know everything about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), then you should still check out this comprehensive book from the American Academy of Pedia-trics. It's not only a diagnostic and treat-ment reference-covering the myriad of symptoms and heal-ing approaches (i.e. parenting, schooling, behavior therapy, medications, and even experimental techniques)-it also runs the spectrum of services and options available from preschool through college years. Even the most veteran ADHD parent will discover some new avenue to assist their child in growth and societal assimilation.
