I was outraged by this book (and bought two copies)! It manages to be sacreligious, un-American, and anti-Steven Speilberg all at the same time. The Archie comic strips tell it like it is, and the "Kittys I Have Known" chapter brought tears to mine eyes! And I love their recipe section, especially the Ham Basted in Coca-Cola and Mini-Marshmellows!

Although this book refers only to Australian festivals and events, it's loaded with management lessons, concepts and strategies that are universal. This is the best book I've been able to find on a subject that is scarcely written about (referring to large festivals). Thank you Johnny Allen, William O'Toole, Ian Mcdonnel and Robert Harris for sharing your knowledge.

A great book, not just for school administrators, but for managers in the private sector as well. This book is not the usual theory driven text, but is full of practical tips and suggestions for managing people in large organizations. A career's worth of wisdom distilled into a readable book!

The best philosophy book since...

since Difference and Repetition. Sure it's not a single masterwork, but rather many many essays, but it's amazing and complex and revealing... Now, none of it will likely make sense unless you're relatively deep into continental philosophy already, but for those who are readers in the field, if you haven't spent time on Nancy, you're just spinning your wheels. Yup. Oh, and this will put Being and Time into perspective for you too, and should be read alongside your Levinas, too.

Every manager OUGHT to read this book!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-12-04
"The First Book of Common Sense Management" is a title which says it all -"common sense". To me, that is 99% of being a good manager, using good old fashioned common sense. Unfortunately, too many managers don't see this and make numerous managerial mistakes, which in turn causes poor employee morale and turnover problems. If they had read this book, they would see the error of their ways and may even be better managers as a result.

In this day in age, it would benefit managers to know how to train and keep good help instead of making the kinds of mistakes that cause people to resign in disgust. Knowing how to empower your employees, stroke their egos and praise them for a job well done instead of constantly criticise and point out errors and problems is a big job, but one that a good manager ought to learn how to do. This book gives you the tools to know how to do those things and to foster good will and high productivity in your department or office.

Poor management has been the cause of more than one company's demise, and in these uncertain financial times, it is the wise manager who will read this book and keep his or her company afloat and keep good employees productive and happy. It may even be the difference between the life and death of a company. A company will survive that is well managed and has satisfied and motivated employees that will produce. Managers, this should be mandatory reading for each and every one of you. Pass this around your board room or management staff. Make everyone read it and read it again if need be. Yours is the choice - good company morale and high productivity or poor employee morale, low productivity and company death. Frankly, were I a manager, I would choose the latter.

This was my mom's book and she read it to me. I think the pictures have always been very pretty and I like the way the book follows the seasons. I learned alot about the changing seasons from this book.

A ripping yarn

A fast paced, well thought out novel of how we on the earth came to be here. Logan assembles just enough science to make you think it might just have happened the way he describes and, most importantly, sprinkles his book with both believable characters, including the President, and characters you care about.
This is not a science fiction novel but a novel about science and myth which Logan handles well. No BEM's in this book.
A very good read.

Five Alive!: My Yom Tov Five Senses is a charming picture book by Dina Rosenfeld about the five senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Written especially for Jewish children (as it contains references to Jewish religious traditions and celebrations such as Rosh Hashana), Five Alive! is wonderfully enhanced with friendly full-color artwork by Tova Leff. Five Alive! is an thoroughly delightful and enthusiastically recommended easy reader picturebook for children ages 2 to 5.

A highly recommended book. Liked by the children's panel of Alice 9, Emma 7, and Lucy 5. Particularly fond of the optical illusions and funny references to "ant poo and lots of tickling." The stylized cursive writing is a little hard to read for the very young aged 5, but pages that look as if they have been eaten and pages you can feel and the page you can scrunch up are fun. Thanks to the London Times (Dec. 8-14th 07)for this review.
