Great diet and exercise guide!

The first chapter was a little tough for a layperson like myself but I think I understood the main points: 1) lipoprotein problems serve as the centerpiece for diabetes and cardiovascular disease; and 2) the type of testing most docs do out there to detect these lipoprotein problems misses the mark BIG TIME!
The rest of the book was a blast to read - I finished it overnight - couldn't put it down. The cartoons fit with the text perfectly and it seems 'Dr. V' really knows what he's talking about when it comes to diet, exercise, nutrition and weight control.
I've recommended it to my parents who both have diabetes (my dad had a heart attack last year) and I plan to recommend it to my own doctor - if she doesn't take the last chapter (written for docs) to heart, I might even shop around for a new, more enlightened one!
Way to go, Dr. V - I look forward to your next work (?). Please write a cookbook - I loved the recipes you included in this book and would love a whole bunch more.

Similar in certain respects to `The South Beach Diet,' this new diet and exercise book really takes things to the next level. I highly recommend it!

The first chapter does include a lot of scientific stuff about how weight problems are intertwined with diabetes, stroke and heart disease but the author does so in a down-to-earth and in-your-face fashion that was quite refreshing (considering how most docs out there `talk down' to the rest of us). The motivation section will really move you, make you think and put things into their proper perspective. No one will ever want to act like a `weenie' again after reading this book! About 50 pages of yummy-looking, gourmet-type but health-conscious recipes (that the author evidently created himself) are also included.

`The HAPI Heart Diet' is unique in taking cutting-edge scientific concepts and using these to promote a common-sense but disciplined lifestyle. Despite the inclusion of medical terminology, the author makes it easy and fun to read, chock full of humorous cartoons, informative graphics and helpful tables and charts (perfect for future reference).

Any physician out there who deals with obesity, cholesterol problems, diabetes and/or heart disease should probably be forced to study this book - it seems there are a lot of advancements out there that most docs are refusing to take advantage of - read the book and you'll see what I mean.

Loved it!

Marvelous Anne Rockwell again creates magic for toddlers and parents with her latest book, "Here Comes the Moon".Wonderful watercolor-like pictures of the sweetest little boy-ever cuddling with Mommy can make any night time Good-night special. Using rhymes and rhythms, this book may become the "Goodnight Moon" for a New Generation of Moms and Dads. Anne Rockwell must have spectacular children and Grandchildren --if they grew up reading her work, and learning about her art. I can't recommend this enough. My son, Jack at age 9 adored it...the little boy with the dog and fluffy slippers reminded him of himself, and his dog, Maggie, while he wears my fluffy MOOSE slippers! A book all Mothers and Sons will relate to! I wish more Rockwell Books made it to bookstore shelves. Thank Goodness for Libraries and Amazon.

I have to say that I really enjoyed reading this timeless book about a mother who explains night to her child as she puts him to bed in the book, Hear Comes the Night.

The book starts off with the young boy brushing his teeth with his pet dog nearby. The story then moves to the child sitting on his mother's lap as she reads him a bedtime story. After they are finished reading the young boy and his mother begins looking outside of the bedroom window to say goodnight and to listen to the sounds of the night while watching the beautiful colors that nighttime brings.

What colors are outside during the night hours? What sounds can you hear?

All of these answers are found in the beautiful colors of the pictures provided in this beautiful book. The strokes are so bold in the pictures and the colors are very soft and gentle. It looks as if the pictures were taken directly off the wall in an art museum!

The book is definitely soothing to a child's ear if read in a gentle tone. A child can follow along easily and participate by taking part in the sound effects of the book.

I would definitely recommend this book to any parent with a young child. Anne Rockwell did a fine job in creating a beautiful story for young children to follow and enjoy!

Hide-and-Seek Dragons is an Usborne Touchy-Feely picturebook featuring stiff pages like a board book, flaps that young people can lift and search under, and perhaps most amazingly, a wide variety of different surfaces to touch, from fur to reflective fabric to scaly dragon bellies and much more. Cartoony dragons of different colors are playing a hide-and-seek game, and it's up to the young reader to find the hiding dragon behind one of the paper flaps. A definite treat for young dragon lovers!

I first read this book over a year ago. I picked it up again recently and was struck by how many of the ideas and insights had stayed with me and worked a sometimes subtle, sometimes profound change in my life. If you want to take control of your life and need a place to start, this book will set you on the path.

This is a fantastic book by a gifted teacher and horse person. If you are looking to learn more about yourself and how to develop clarity and intention in your life, this is a great read. The author gives a thorough education about the natural instincts of horses and humans and how those instincts affect our behaviors and outlook on life. Learning to recognize how we can work with these instincts to enhance our experience of ourselves and improve our interactions with others is the core gift of this book and of the workshops that the author teaches at her ranch. I recommned both very highly.

My 2 year old son received this book for Valentine's Day last year, and he has loved it from day one. It is charmingly illustrated, and the text is both lyrical and amusing. He knows it by heart and loves to "help" me with the next words, as well as point out all the familiar things in the pictures. This is one that will grow with him, too, as he gets older and learns to read himself. And excellent book, and one that you AND your child will enjoy reading again and again!

My 17-month old daughter loves to have this read to her over and over. This is a favorite author of mine and the artist has that "Norman Rockwell"-ish knack for making his illustrations appear to move on the page. Tip: Look for the hidden letters on the P and G pages! I've yet to find the rest of the alphabet.

A wonderful childrens book for 8months plus. The story is a well constructed rhyme about the familiar things a child encounters in his/her home. The book also offers the advantage of touch and feel. My one year old son enjoys scratching at the sand in the sandbox and touching the furry bear. If you have young children this is the Perfect interactive book.

This is my 14-month-old daughter's favorite book for the last 3 months now. It's a nicely written rhyming book with lots of things to touch, like scratchy sand, nubbly towels, lacey curtains, etc. The book is VERY durable with a fabric border, we've read it 100's of times and it shows no wear at all. I recommend!

Our creator wants us to question our faith!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-15
The author of this book uses a very intelectual approach. The book answers the basic questions of every educated human being about faith. The answers are very logical and rational.

This book is a very unique and outstanding introduction to faith in Islam, the religion that has been misunderstood the most, not only by non-Muslims, but by many Muslims as well. It takes the reader in a systematic way to a deep and enjoyable journey towards his/her creator. As long as the reader is sincere and serious about searching or confirming the truth, this book is one of the best ones to move forward.

I recommend it as the first reading material that one could give to a non-muslim. Muslims should also read this book to find out if they are just blindly following islam because it was the religion of your parents or Does Islam really makes sense?

We checked this book out at the library and my 3 yr old loves it so much, I am ordering it for her for Christmas. She was so disappointed when we had to take it back to the library. She loves all of the jungle sounds and it is much more fun for the child if you really get into the sounds. A super book!

I used the Jungle Drum as part of a first grade unit on the Rain Forest. The book accurately depicts the South American rain forest and the animals that live there. The skillful, simple-seeming text is enhanced by the mysteriously three dimensional cut-paper illustrations. Not only was this an enjoyable and entertaining book for my students, but it offered me many activity ideas for tie-ins with language arts.

GOT THIS ON RECOMMENDATION OF A FRIEND. NOT USUALLY INTO BOOKS IN THE SELF HELP GENRE, BUT TRUST MY FRIENDS PICKS. AS THE TITLE SAYS, IT TRULY IS WRITTEN FOR THE LAYPERSON, AND YOU ACTUALLY FEEL AS IF THE AUTHOR IS TALKING WITH YOU, NOT AT YOU, WHICH IS WHAT TURNS ME OFF OF A LOT OF BOOKS OF THIS TYPE IN THE FIRST PLACE. I LIKED THIS A LOT.

Unique, user-friendly--human condition in layman's terms!

Picked up this book perusing the 'Relationship' books in the local bookstore, as I needed some insight into some troubling relationships. I appreciated the humorous yet insightful style of writing, and especially how it seemed to speak directly to me and my relationships, both personal and familial. This is a bedside book and a must read. Anymore books by this author?
