This book is a must read for people of all ages, genders and races. If we are to unite as a country, it is pertinent for all of us to understand everyone's struggle. Dr. Edelin fought for himself, but more importantly he selflessly fought for others. And 30 plus years after his trial he still fights and believes in the same rights as he did then. Thank you for giving this book to us!
A great read!Review Date: 2008-01-27
This is an important book on the subject of Roe vs Wade and the parallels to a John Grisham novel in describing the court room scenes are accurate. I felt the energy of the 70's and his experiences as a young man faced with such a frightening indictment. Where it differs from John Grisham novels that I have read is that this was the first book I had where someone had gone in-depth into the medical profession and explained it in a way that made sense to a non-doctor. He makes the medical world accessible and interesting in the same way that Grisham and Turow have made the legal world accessible and interesting.
Overall this is a great read and one that I have already recommended to many others.

Romance in high school, good friends and jerks.Review Date: 2005-02-09
It reminds us of our high school. The romance is really great and boyfriend is so cool (and handsome). The ex-boyfriend reminds me of every high school mean jock who wears a varsity letter and is a true jerk. They think that every girl is in love with them. Give us a break!
Poor Miranda does get into a bit of trouble tho.....
If you like reading true romance, you'll love this book.
We do!

Choices and consequencesReview Date: 2007-01-18
Miranda is awakened on the morning of her 16th birthday by her friend Tasha who informs her that she is going with her and her sister Carly to a concert that very night! Wildly excited about this fantastic turn of fate, Miranda doesn't realize that the concert will put into play a series of events that will change her and her life forever. Meeting Keith, a handsome artistic soul whom she falls in love with, is just the beginning of many changes ahead for both Miranda and Keith.
To say that the story is all pink flowers and sweet talk would be misrepresenting the book. It is more than that. It is a book that has its romantic moments which each young girl likes to read, but it also is a book that puts into words the difficulties and choices a young teenage couple must make as their relationship grows ever closer. Miranda is no innocent by any means within this book, nor is she a worldly wise young woman either. What she is, is a typical teen, caught between youth and adulthood and who makes one bad choice which later causes her to make another harder one.
From the beginning of their relationship, Miranda and Keith, meet in a semi-secret way, not telling Miranda's parents the whole truth about their meetings. Drawn into the plan for secrecy and innocent encounters is Mack, Miranda's brother and Tasha who find that they do in fact have more in common than they originally thought. The contrast between the two budding couples is interesting to watch unfold as both pairs learn more about each other and decide how to proceed in their relationships. The choices are as different as the couples are and the choices they make are ones that form a basis for what is to come next in the book.
The choice Keith and Miranda make to finally have sex is a common one for young couples, and one that they tried to put off for as long as possible. But the choice they make to have unprotected sex is one they soon find themselves regretting, for it is obvious that after one brief encounter, Miranda is in fact pregnant.
How Miranda handles this news, who she tells and how she tells them is a real part of this book as is her relationship with not only Keith and Tasha, but her brother Mack who is by now, not only her brother but her confidant too in matters of the heart. What the future holds for these two couples, the hard decisions they must make and how they come about their choices is what makes this book a "must read" for young teens. It is within the pages of this book that common teen problems are addressed and solved which change their lives forever. It is the type of book which you wish you could "rewind" parts of the story and make other choices for the characters but which you know, like in real life, is impossible to do.
I would highly recommend "What's Happily Ever After, Anyway?" for all young teens as it is well written, true to life and frank without coming off as "preachy." It is a book that will cause the reader to take pause and evaluate choices made and how those choices can change forever their lives. In reading this book, the reader cannot help but think long and hard about choices they will face and the consequences of each choice they do make.
A Great Book!Review Date: 2005-01-15
Miranda meets the boy of her dreams at a rock concert on her sixteenth birthday and quickly begins to believe she has found her Prince Charming. Though not a virgin, Miranda's disastrous relationship with a football star at her school has taught her to be more cautious with her body and more careful with her heart. Readers follow Miranda on a journey of self discovery as she talks to her parents about sex, deals with sexual harassment and an unexpected pregnancy. We suffer with her, agonize over her choices and hold our breath until the end of the novel.
Taylor does not preach to readers in this book. She manages to entertain readers while outlining all the options available to her heroine. There is no prejudice or judgment in this book. It is merely a look into the problems of an average teenage girl who makes a couple of wrong decision and provides a valuable lesson for young adult readers.
Through the magic of Taylor's storytelling Miranda's pain becomes their own, and her mistakes could possible become a life saving lesson for readers. More oriented towards girls, this book should be read by any teenage female who has questions about boys, sex or life in general for this book truly contains valuable life lessons. Recommended for readers 12 and up.

Review: How Do You Know He's Real?Review Date: 2007-06-14
Celebrities Share Their Christian FaithReview Date: 2007-05-31
The author has collected very readable stories telling how celebrities have become Christians, and they share their low points and their joys here. This is a welcome peek into the lives of well known people who typically are more secretive.
Ricky Skaggs, Kirk Cameron, Gloria Gaynor, Bethel Johnson (34 people in all) tell about their struggles and their early days as new Christians.
Billy Ray Cyrus tells of singing in his grandpa's Pentecostal church when he was 4, and includes the touching lyrics to the song he wrote "The other side."
Jackie (Jacklyn) Zeman, star of General Hospital, advises that when you are at a crossroads "cry out to God and ask for His guidance."
Al Kasha's story resonated with me; this Academy Award winning songwriter overcame agoraphobia, and talks about how Hollywood is a tough place for a Jew who came to Christ, and how he started a Hollywood Bible study group.
There are stories here for anyone to enjoy and find spirit lifting.
Celebrities talk about God in their lifeReview Date: 2007-04-27
How Do You Know He's Real? is a collection of celebrity essays about God acting in their lives. The contributors include athletes, musicians, and actors. Their stories often follow a familiar pattern of fame leading to drugs and alcohol before hitting bottom and being turned around by an encounter with God. That's not to say the accounts are all stock and cliched, but rather that God meets each person in their need--and for celebrities that need will be similar. And many of the tales include growing up in stable Christian homes, but still needing to make personal decisions about God and Christ and how that decision impacted their careers.
The stories are collected alphabetically but Hagberg has provided a topic finder so a reader battling discouragement or frustration can find offerings from Billy Ray Cyrus, Nancy Stafford, Zorro, Gary Burghoff or John Schneider.
Each essay begins with a picture and short biography of the contributor, listing their accomplishments. Following the selection is God's Road Map, a few sentences about the issues raised by the author, with Bible verses for teaching and encouragement.
The essays themselves are as varied as the contributors. Some of them read as if they were written to be given as speeches. Several sound like the writer could be sitting at your kitchen table, chatting over the coffee pot. All of them are honest and share from their heart how God has acted in their life and how they know He's real.
Reading the accounts of God acting in both miraculous and mundane ways reminds us that no matter what a person does for a living, each of us are created beings who need a loving Savior and merciful God.

Compelling and Honest--A breakthrough for post-abortive women!Review Date: 2005-12-29
Lydia describes the challenges one faces relating to one's future children, sexual issues, fear and inability to bond, and depression and even suicide. I know there are thousands, if not millions of women walking around with all of these unresolved, painful issues that they don't know the root of and feel they cannot even speak about. Thank God Lydia could no longer keep silent.
The best part of her book is that she actually found healing for her pain and she shares how others can achieve it as well.
This is a "must-read" for all post-abortive women!
God bless Lydia and her family.

I am so glad I read this book, and I hope this book will encourage others to share their life experiences regarding abortion. I also hope the book will encourage people to NOT keep silent regarding abortion or other important issues in their lives. Don't keep issues bottled up--talk about them!

Walk in Physical, Emotional & Spiritual FREEDOMReview Date: 2005-12-30
I have never had an abortion, however, I found Lydia's story most compelling and heartfelt. Thus, all women (post-abortive, or not) CAN relate to Lydia's story at some level. She focuses on issues and/or themes of self-esteem, love, bitterness, and self-hatred. She also provides the reader with valuable resources (contact information) for post-abortive women searching for help for healing and wholeness.
Lydia's story is well written. Her writing style allows for an easy read as to capture the thought, clarity, heart, and intimacy of her text. One is not bombarded, or overthrown by unnecessary academic jargon.
If you desire to be set free from a HISTORY of physical, emotional and/or spiritual bondage and turmoil -- whether a victim of abortion or not -- this book is for ALL people; this book is for you! It's time to be SET free!

A CRY FROM THE WOMB is a life-changing work for any readerReview Date: 2006-04-06
Her antecdotal stories are profound and concise. The choice of stories covers a wide range of topics. Even if the reader has not been part of a similar story, each story has a message for all readers.
Her explanations about who and what we are as spiritual beings in this world is key to everyone's understanding of themselves and their purpose here on this earth. Just the glossary is a treasure in itself!
I have followed and practiced the simple prayer steps that Gwendolyn Awen Jones has written for us and must say that I feel more grounded and at peace than ever before.
Good transformational literature is hard to find. I have a library full of self-help books that I put down after a few chapters. A CRY FROM THE WOMB is a must-read for all spiritual seekers, mothers, fathers and anyone who wishes to understand themselves as a human being on planet Earth. It is an easy read that packs a big punch!

Dr. Edelin's and my own story have many parallels, though I was born "poor white" into a racist culture in rural Arkansas and except for 4 years in the US Navy, have lived in this culture all of my life.
Dr. Edelin tells an gripping story of his childhood and young manhood in a racist society, one where he had to be smarter, kinder, better trained and better prepared than any of his white colleagues to even be allowed to attempt to realize his dreams of being a doctor and treating his patients with skill, compassion and amazing courage.
His is a story of liars, and honest men and women, of dedicted physicians and more than a few doctors and residents willing to lie, misguide and misdirect the jury of their, not Dr. Edlin's, peers. And always, the two major villians show up again and again, to do their best to figuratively lynch this incredably skilled, brave and capable young Black man... just because they thought they could, though he was guilty of nothing more than doing his best to treat his patients as he would like to be treated himself.
And he had a Judge who should have been impeached for incompetance, and a prosecutor who should have been hung. I wonder just how many innocent young men he sent to prison for life and to be killed so he could advance his career. Broken Justice? Sounds like Catholic Justice gone mad.
