I read this book from cover to cover and had so many highlighted parts with sticky tabs everywhere. I really enjoyed Michael's easy-to-understand concepts about discovering and fulfilling my soul's purpose. I also randomly pick a page every morning to read to start my day on a good note. In addition to Michael's wonderful teachings, you also get lots of exercises to develop your spiritual growth.

This is a beautiful, deep, insightful book that anyone on a spiritual path should read. Michael Tamura has got it going on! I highly recommend it! Very powerful.

This is a book filled with some of the most highly evolved spiritual information and guidance I've ever found. I HIGHLY recommend it.

This book is like watching a movie that has you so engrossed you don't want it to end. If that sounds cliché, you won't think so after you've had it in your itchy palms, awake late at night, not able to move you're so in awe of what you are reading.

For what it's worth, James Van Praagh had a private session with the author years ago and was genuinely in awe. James wrote the forward for "You are the Answer". In it he talks about how this book reminded him of his own `inkling of purpose'.

This delicately touches what this book is about. The idea is that in quieting our minds with the help of meditative exercises we can create the space for our spiritual seeds to grow into our true divine selves. We pick up charges from many sources: acquaintances, family, thoughts, and perceptions. Michael Tamura's words are revolutionarily loving and add up to some of the FULLEST sentences you've ever read - you cannot read this book once. In fact, the amount of time you go back to reread a paragraph or sentence will amount to your reading this book a dozen times hoping that the words would come alive and put their healing hands upon you. And that's before you read it all over again because you miss it so much.

I recommend this book to all of the people who ever wanted to feel the lightness of divinity in their everyday life. To remind themselves of love so eternal and so huge and so familiar that being without it is what's missing. This book was like going to the doctor for me. The Soul Doctor.

This is an excellant book for firearms research and collecting, especially for those who are new to this type of collecting.

This is the one to own if you need to know what guns are worth. I collect guns that are in date, no antiques or just old, and this book shows me what I need to know about them. Prices seem to as close as possible to what the market is trying to get for them. All the firearms I needed to know about were in here with picture as well as description. I have the Shooters Bible and The Gun Trader which are good but not as much info as Standard Catalog of Firearms.

really good facts and a lot of new information in this one. Has all the standard weapons , plus some that are really rare. Perfect for all collectors like myself. Highly recomment this one.

Read it with a highlighter in hand, and be prepared to get out into the field and put the techniques into practice immediately. I realized my pre-scouting left alot to be desired. Aggressive Whitetail Hunting is a superior book on hunting trophy whitetails. Frankly, I'm tired of books were the authors spend 200 pages telling me how great they are by recounting their exploits on fully guided hunts in hunting preserves.

Greg Miller is a true outdoorsman who hunts on public land and small farms in Wisconsin. His helpful tips, especially on hunting rublines are sure to make you a better hunter. As someone who must hunt heavily pressured public land I figured I would have to use Aggressvie Whitetail strategies to be successful. I applied the lessons learned in this book and bagged a nice eight point buck on public land.

If your a begginer, or someone who wants to bag a bigger buck this is the book for you.

This is a very informative book. I especially like the section on rub-lines and how Greg clears up misconceptions about scrapes and rubs (and rub-lines). I think the chapter on rub-lines is the most important. There is alot to learn in the rest of the book. E.g. chapters on hunting small tracts of land and performing "small" drives. If you want more information on rub-lines, check out Greg Miller's "Rub-Line Secrets" -- that one is a 5 star book.

Gets right to the point. Explains how to have quality hunting when there are limitations on how much time you can spend in the woods. This guy is obviously a hunter, not just an outdoors writer.

This the end all book for serious deer hunters. Whether you are a novice or an experienced hunter, this is the book to follow.

This book is phenominal - I read through it every day. It is such a blessing in my life and in my family's life. This is a must read for every parent!

Whenever I go to a baby shower or give a baby gift, I always include a copy of Aim Your Child Like an Arrow.

I was ready to give in to frustration, and was feeling I had messed up totally with my sons: 16 years, 14 years, and 7 years old. My oldest was into the occult. He was so confused he said he couldn't consentrate in school. I started reading this book and confessing the scriptures over my husband and children 20 minutes a day while I was on my exercise bike! My oldest son started to call on the Lord for deliverance. I see such a miracle before me. His grades are excellent now. I bought an extra book for another lady. I strongly suggest to every male and female with children to read this inspiring book.

I am a public school teacher, teaching 2nd grade. A few weeks ago, I purchased and gave out three copies of "Aim Your Child Like an Arrow" to parents and grandparents of my children. One child in particuler had been having nightmares about going to hell and had a lot of difficulty sleeping at night. He had a history of vomitting every day before going to kindergarten and had violent headaches and sleepless nights in kindergarten and first grade. After introducing my child and his mother to the love and faithfulness of God through His Word, they took home the sinner's prayer and this book and the child began to pray the sinner's prayer daily. He said it made him sleep. We also have a reading journal assignment Monday-Thursday nights for homework. Daily, he has been requesting to sit down and read "Aim Your Child Like an Arrow" for his 10 minutes of reading at night. This book has become a necessity for him, and his mother says he asks to read it more than any other book.

Thank God for this book! I have been putting the principles in action. I have two sons ages 7 and 9. People around me have commented on how fine my children are becoming and how they are well mannered and have peace.

This book is great for beginers and good for someone a little further along. It gives you most airbrush tricks that you'l need to paint whatever you want to paint.

Covers the mechanical stuff more briefly than many, and has a nice section on fixing problems, including straightening a bent needle. Gets briskly on to the =use= of the thing, and runs a series of exercises to help you get the hang of techniques, including learning how to draw freehand. This guy is not hung up on anal-compulsive frisket cutting, but recommends a "universal mask" you can make out of a styrene or metal sheet that will do for a lot of work.

Service was great and the book was awesome. Answered every question I had and taught me things I never thought of.

I hate to gush but this is, imho, the single best book on airbrushing that I've seen. It covers technique from beginner to advanced. The instructions are straight forward. I suppose they could seem boring if you're an advanced artist. Since I learn from even a rehash of what I already new, I wasn't bored.

Unlike other reviewers, I wasn't disappointed because it doesn't cover painting motorcycles or helmets. The title is fairly straightforward and a good clue to what the book covers. If you're only interested in painting motorcycles, try How to Custom Paint Graphics here on Amazon.

If on the other hand, you see an airbrush as another tool in expressing yourself through art, get this book. Vero is a master at solidifying visualization. He introduced the use of shields and the book contains a template for his design for one of the most versatile shields around.

When you aren't using it for reference, I recommend putting it on the coffee table. People who drop by my apartment are instantly drawn to the cover which features an illustration of Vero's "Study of a Girl". Instant conversation starter!

Rado Vero is recognized as one of the greatest illustrators who ever lived. Reading his thoughts on airbrush and different ways to create are as invaluable as reading Da Vinci's ideas on creating perspective. It didn't bother me that it was first printed in 1983. Nothing in this book has been outmoded. In fact, many of his ideas, such as use of shields, are now the standard in art schools. I expect it to be equally as valid in 2083.

I have bought multiple copies of this book and given them to friends who are just getting into airbrushing. I expect that I will buy quite a few more before it's over.

Excellent book however as the title states relates mainly to studio applications and technical details. Not really applicable to air brush enthusiasts wanting to style cars or helmets etc.

Tons of great beading techniques & some history lessons to go with. No need for me to repeat in 2008 what others have been writing since 2005! :)

I do want to point out this book is unique in my collection because it's the only one I know of to cover polygon stitch. Not only is it covered, the instructions are easy and there is a FANTASTIC chart to go with it so you can resize it, change your bead counts/rows and weave this hollow tubular rope in any number of ways. I'd like to hug the author for publishing that chart alone! :)

This is a truly beautifully organized and presented book. It appeals to a wide audience, not only those who plan to create the beaded jewelry from the detailed instructions given. It is excellent from a historical basis, and those who just want to look at the lavish photos will be richly rewarded!

This is an interesting book, filled with history about beading. I do wish Ms Hector had given specific instructions for her "big bead" Japanese beads (shown on the back of the book).

I have been doing beadwork, writing about beadwork, researching beads and beadwork, devoting my master's degree work to beadwork ... everything I have ever done these past 10 years seem to relate to beads ... even vacations with my wife center on going to specific bead stores, collections and museums.

This book is PHENOMENAL! There are things in this book that I could never have dreamed about. The photography, illustrations and explanations for the projects are first rate. Linking them to traditional pieces is brilliant.

This is the one book that will change the face of beadwork to come in the future.

Another fascinating adventure by Asterix and Obelix! Worth to have it in your collection!!

This is my favorite Asterix book! The best part in the book is when Asterix & Obelix get recruited into the Roman army and the ensuing scenes in bootcamp as they prepare for deployment. Those are laugh aloud artwork (and dialogue). This might sound discriminatory but the clever use of hieroglyphics whenever the Egyptian "recruit" is around remains unequalled in the rest of the series (except, of course, in maybe Asterix and Cleopatra).

First published in French in 1967 as Astérix légionnaire , it was first published in English in 1970.

Beautiful , young , Panacea returns to the village , after two years studying in Condatum (Rennes) , and Obelix falls head over heels in love with her.
Panacea,however , is engaged to Tragicomix , who has been forcibly conscripted into the Roman army , as part of Julius Caesar' s war effort against the Romans who support Pompey.
Despite Obelix heart being broken by the news of Panacea's engagement,he nonetheless is enough of a gentleman to offer to bring Tragicomix back .
Asterix and Obelix set off for Condatum where they join the Roman army, and after having driven their commanding officers crazy, and having changed protocol in the Roman Army , they embark on the journey to North Africa , where things really become interesting.
Once more this is an interesting commentary on Europe at the time of writing , with the Roman Empire being something like the EU today.
In their regiment there is a Greek , a Briton , a Goth (German) , and An Egyptian , as well as a translator , much to the distress of the two Centurions.
This makes for a lot of fun.
Once more we get to see a guest appearance by Julius Caesar.

As a child, I read all of the "classic" Asterix books in Swedish. As an adult and now living in the U.S., I am reading them again to my children, but this time in English. This is a good classic. In Swedish, this book was called Asterix in Africa, but I read this English version to my children. As others have pointed out, the Asterix books are not very popular in the U.S., but American kids (like mine) are not much different from European kids, so I think someone is missing a business opportunity here. American kids respond positively to these books.

Asterix and Obelix live in a village in Gaul that the Romans failed to conquer. The reason for this is that the village druid knows how to make a magic potion that endows the villagers with super human strength. In this book a villager, Tragicomix, is kidnapped, and later he and his girlfriend are sold as slaves in Rome. Asterix and Obelix set out to find him and rescue him (them), but to do that they have to join the Roman army. Their search leads them to North Africa. It is an interesting and entertaining story full of lighthearted good puns. Thanks to Obelix the Roman army finally got good food.

In general I find that, children the age 5-13 really enjoy these books, and so do my children. Adults can enjoy these books as well. The Asterix comic books are a great way to teach children ancient history. Naturally, the adult needs to help with the differentiation between fiction and history. From these books, my kids have learned about the Roman Empire, the ancient Greeks, the Vikings, the Goths, the Phoenicians, ancient Gaul, ancient Egypt, and the ancient Mediterranean world in general.

My ten year old started loving these books at the age of eight and he cannot get enough of them. My six year old started liking them at the age of five. Even though many Asterix puns may be a little bit above his head, my younger son still loves these stories.

In my opinion the best Asterix albums are: Asterix and the Normans; Asterix in Corsica; Obelix and company; Asterix the Gladiator; Asterix the Legionary; Asterix and Cleopatra; Asterix and the Goths; Asterix in Belgium; Asterix and the big fight; and Asterix all around Gaul. The last title is a translation from Swedish and might be wrong.

This book is a fantastic introduction to the meditations of love and compassion that John Makransky has been teaching for the past several years. New meditators will save a lot of trial and error by following the instructions, and will gain great perspective from the heartfelt personal stories that Lama John shares. There is also a CD of guided meditations available directly from the publisher and the Dzogchen Center bookstore that greatly enhances the value of the book as a support for daily practice. Buy one for yourself and for anyone that you truly care for.

Through the practices and examples in this book, John Makransky shows us how to unlock what was always here, our deepest goodness. This is the summit of all spiritual practice and its much more ordinary than we think. If you wish to realize and reclaim what what always essentially yours, read this book.

Who doesn't want to become a more loving person? The love that's taught in this book you can learn to count on and the practices are do-able, even with short amounts of time available. You'll notice changes as you become more patient and open with yourself and others. Painful reactions melt over time as more truly loving responses become the norm. You'll be so grateful you bought this book and worked with it.

John Makransky has written a book that makes Tibetan Buddhist love and wisdom practices accessible to anyone. These practices have had a big impact on how I relate to the world and to myself. (I do not say this lightly.) Awakening Through Love is engaging and well researched. The practices are easy to follow...and will take you a long, long way.

This book is essentially a manual for love - receiving it, giving it, seeing it all around you, and bringing it out in all beings and situations. You could spend as little or as much time on each chapter, as each section reveals more and more every time you read it. Awakening through Love could be a great companion to the many other books on your shelf, or it could be a first concise introduction to Tibetan Buddhism and some of its practices. Either way, it is A GEM!

I discovered this book at our local library and fell in love with the charming story. I instantly ordered it from Amazon, but the one I received has been re-written to be quicker and thus not as charming and sweet! This version has the kitty running from animal to animal in a panic looking for her purr, whereas the one at the library described how she went on her search through the day, and at days end she was getting quite tired by the time she talked to owl and the ending read much sweeter than this one. I don't know what year that edition was (it was hardbound - maybe that's the difference) or if it had a different publisher, but I was disappointed with this version and will continue my search for the one I fell in love with.

P.S. After posting this, I did find out that the book I bought from Amazon was published by Tiger Press and the book at the library is published by Dutton Children's Books. I do see that Amazon lists the publisher as Dutton - so no guarantee there.

I love this book for two reasons:

It is a good illustration for children about happiness and how the cat was looking for happiness in all the wrong places.

It is an excellent introduction to farm animals and their sounds. Most children can probably relate to the purring of a cat, but might not have yet had exposure to farm animals. This book does a good job of bridging the sound of purring of an every day cat to that of farm animals.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful and quite effectively support the prose.

This is a different twist on learning animal sounds. My boys love it (3 & 5) and ask for it repeatedly. It shows animals on a farm in their habitats. The kitten is very sweet, and I have made it into a flannel board story for my kids as well.

I really enjoyed this book because the little kitten thinks that she has lost her purr but she has really not. In the book she also goes to all of the farm animals and asks them if they have it and at the end she finds out she has it all along and her mother shows her. I hope when you read it you will enjoy it just as much as i did.

The bright, large and, I might add, accurate, illustrations in this book are great, eye catching and very, very well executed! The story line is simple, a kitten who is searching for her purr. Her encounter with the barnyard animals keeps the story moving. The text is well matched with the illustrations. This is a cute warm story and is an excellent one to read with your young child. Recommend this one highly.

This is an exciting, inspiring, well-written book that I couldn't put down. Written in a logbook style, it tells what happens when the author catches the Iditarod bug. A very satisfying read.

Don Bowers wrote it with so much heart, it's amazing! If you love sleddogs, Alaska and the Iditarod - it's a must to read it (especially if you want to run the Iditarod once)! Even if English isn't your mother tongue - you will love it! I laughed but also cried while reading the book. It really touched me very much! Don Bowers was killed by an air-crash in summer 2000 and even if I haven't known him personally - my eyes went wet when I heard about it! I wish I could have meet him once...... (sorry, about my bad english, but even with this english it is easy to read his book)!

As a fellow US Air Force Academy Grad, I was thrilled by Don Bowers' adventure! Spending years as an Iditarod pilot, Don finally decides to run the race. He shows the true human effort behind running the race, not as a champion, but as a man willing to give his all to prove his determination and the love for his dogs. Unfortunately, Don Bowers died this year doing one of the things he truly loved: flying airplanes. This book is a tribute to the man and the sport that took over his soul. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves mushing or for anybody with an adventurous heart. It's a true uplift from the everyday drag of modern life. It will yield to the wanderlust of even the most rigid of people. It shows that some people out there still pursue their dreams, no matter how crazy they may seem. Farewell, Don Bowers! May your book be a tribute to you and the sport that you loved!

I love this book. I am in my 4th year of mushing. I love the sport. This book tells you what it is like to deal with these wonderful creatures that are a special breed. The author had a wonderful insight to share his thoughts, feelings, adventures,failures, and successes. Most of us dont tell of things that we did wrong. He not only tells you about what he did wrong, but what he learned from it. I am hoping to run the Iditarod sometime in the future with my daughter, and this is a book that I will for sure have her read before we set of to THE GREATEST RACE. I recommend this book for a veteran, or a beginner, or anyone that just has an interest in dogs. I have laughed outloud while reading this book and I have cried, and had every other emotion but anger. This book is the best I have read in a long time about this sport. Thank you DON.

Subtitled, "An Iditarod Rookie Musher's Alaska Pilgrimage to
Nome", the author, Don Bowers, shares his 1994 and 1995
experience in running a team of sled dogs on the 1,100-mile run from
Anchorage to Nome in the race that has been sometimes called the
"Last Great Race on Earth." He was 48 years old, a bachelor,
with no previous experience in dog mushing. However, he was a pilot
who lived Alaska and had worked as a volunteer in previous races. He
knew many people who had run the race before him and they all
encouraged him to do it.

Every March, since 1967, between 50 and 80
dog sled teams set out on the trail, which can take up to three weeks
to complete. Most are not competing for the front-runner prize.
Merely finishing the race is a personal goal for many. The trek is
difficult, requiring stamina, endurance and the ability to make quick
decisions in constantly changing conditions.

The temperature can
vary from 40 degrees above to 65 degrees below zero and there are
storms and flooding, drifting snow and heavy winds. In some places
the trail plunges down 200 feet or more, twisting between trees and at
the edges of steep drops. At other places, there are long empty
stretches over slick icy rivers. The sled often spills, the dogs get
tangled and sometimes they find themselves miles and miles off the
regular trail.

Mostly, they prefer to travel at night when the
weather is cooler and the dogs are more comfortable. The musher wears
a single beam headlight if the night is dark. Other times the moon
and stars reflect off the snow. And, on rare occasions there is a
spectacular display of flashes and colors in the northern sky.

The
mushers stop at about 20 checkpoints over the course of their
travels. These are mandatory rest stops which often are no more than a
tent or a cabin with a place to put a sleeping bag. A few of the
checkpoints are towns with a place to purchase a meal. Mostly though,
the musher must rely on the 50 or more large bags of supplies weighing
2000 pounds or more which he or she personally packed and had shipped
to these checkpoints. This includes huge amounts of food for the 16
hungry dogs who must be tended to and rested at each of these
stops.

The Iditarod Trail was actually used as a mail route during
the boom time of Alaska's gold rush. And the dog teams of that day
did not have the advantages of modern technology. There were no
helicopters charting their progress. Or airplanes to fly their food
to various checkpoints. There was little if any shelter. And the
conditions for the dogs were certainly not humane.

I can't help
thinking of Jack London's "The Call of the Wild" and
"White Fang" which depicted the life of a sled dog at the
turn of the century. In those days dogs were whipped, beaten with
clubs, and often starved as the food they were given had to be hunted
for as the mushers went along the trail. They lived and died in their
harnesses and it was a constant fight for survival.

Modern dogs are
never beaten. The dogs are trained to respond to simple verbal
commands and whips are never used. They are well fed and rested and
checked by a vet at every checkpoint. If they are injured they are
flown by helicopter to a place they can be cared for. A musher might
start out with 16 dogs, but is allowed to finish with as little as 7
if necessary.

I enjoyed the book tremendously, even though Don
Bowers is no Jack London. This is his first book and he is not a
professional writer. He's good at descriptions of trail conditions
and details of the race. He's also good at discussing his own
personal challenges. I really did empathize with him when a virus
killed some of his dog pups. And I held my breath during his most
scary outdoor challengers. I also have a lot of admiration for his
adaptability and sheer determination to finish, no matter what.

By
the end of the book I had really accepted his style of writing, which
is probably like his personality, which tends to be introspective. And
sometimes I felt he went on a little too long about some detail. I
must say also that I yearned for deeper characterization of the people
around him. There was a woman named Lisa and a man named Andy who
were also "back-of-the-packers". They met at checkpoints
and helped each other during the long trail. I wanted to know more
about them and wish he would have included a few personal details and
a little characterization.

I did get to know his dogs though. Each
one was a distinct and interesting personality. I'll never forget
"Socks" one of the leaders, who was able to sense the trail
without any markers. Or the time the team refused to move because the
females were in heat. His love for his dogs really came through.

I
thank Mr. Bowers for writing the book and definitely recommend it. It
took me to Alaska, put me right on the sled and made me feel I was
part of it all. Quite a departure for a woman who lives in New York
City. It was a great read and I loved being part of the adventure.
