Public Health and Safety Books

This book is a great overview of the hundreds of pharmacy laws. It gives real-life cases and has charts that shows the differences in state laws. I checked other websites and amazon had the lowest price for a new book. I got the regular shipping (not the fast) and other students in my class upgraded the shipping and theirs only came a day before, so I would recommend not spending more on shipping if you don't need it immediately. Overall, I would say it's a good buy!

The chapters by Sen, Anand, and Marmot are inspiring and enlightening. Everyone interested in health ethics, development, inequality, or justice should read this book. It clearly shows how targeted interventions can influence complex webs of social and biological events to bring marked improvements in health, equity, and poverty simulatanteously.

I am majoring in medical radiology.I have read this book several times.I think this book can give you some new idea and make you think deeply. It is a good reference book.

I am a Medical Physicist and I found this book to be an excellent review and have recommended it to our Cheif Radiology Resident for the Radioloy Residents for Physics review. This would be an excellent addition to any Health, Medical Physicists resources as well as the mentioned Scientist, Regulators and Physicians of the title.

By far not a perfect treatment of this subject but not bad at all, really. And also not too expensive the way medical books go nowadays.

There are things that we should know and don't and our ignorance has very little consequence in our life one way or the other. On the other hand, some things we ought to know because they have real potential for altering the way we live. In Nick Valcik's book Regulating the Use of Biological Hazardous Materials in Universities: Complying With the New Federal Guidelines we find out that perhaps not all is well in many of the nation's finest research university laboratories and he clearly makes the point that this could have dire consequences.

At a time when the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Health and Human Services have stopped work at a dozen or more university biological and radiological labs, Dr. Nicolas Valcik delivers for us the story of one such distinguished (name absent) research university and its problems in complying with new health and safety standards issued by the federal government.

The book is a good story of how dedicated and exceptionally talented scientists get immersed in their work and the safety and security standards do not get the attention required. The author is sympathetic to the scientists who deliver for us research findings we need to remain prominent in the health, medical, and security fields. They are scientists first and the regulations, no doubt needed, get compromised, apparently a lot more than we imagine.

In the book's report of trying to comply with new federal biological and radiological protection guidelines at one distinguished research university we begin to see what could be a much larger problem throughout the nation. We are even treated in this book to pictures of regulation and security violations that were overlooked by the scientific staff.

If you want to take one book that is well researched and documented which will give you an inside glimpse of what may be a serious problem at our research universities and in their communities, read Dr. Valcik's treatise that unfolds like a story and gives you enjoyably what you need to know about this critical area in scientific research.

When I bought this book I had no background in Law whatsoever. This book was excellent for me because it is very easy to understand and it provides the reader with examples so that on learns how to apply the concepts being taught. Keep in mind that this is a public health law book, but it provides one with the basic concepts and vocabulary one needs to understand it (make sure to read the preface and introduction first).

Good book and interesting too. Good to use for a baseline for school security.

Ken is one of the brightest and most informed nutritionists in the country, and in this excellent book he helps you navigate the confusing world of seafood and wellness. Yes, seafood is good for us, but what about the mercury contamination of the larger fish? Ken answers these and other important questions. This is a must book for anyone who eats seafood and cares about their health.

I have written numerous book reviews for law journals and have read many of Conte's other works. She is a great writer. Even non lawyers can understand the central message.

"You can't judge a book by its cover" is an old adage that may NOT be applicable with Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: Law and Practice. A colleague lamented to me about sexual harassment she was facing from the medical director of the clinic where she was employed. During our conversation, I suggested she merely place Conte's work on her desk. It is black, but the title is in gold lettering with a fire engine red background. Thus, eyes are drawn to it because it stands out. Like others who entered her office, his eyes were drawn to Conte's volumes sitting on her desk. The harassment stopped. Hiring a lawyer and filing EEOC reports are costly, time-consuming, and emotionally draining. Strategically placing a book on her desk was not, and may have been more effective than filing a complaint.

As I said before this is a well-written book that will assist law and policy students. I think anyone who reads this review should ask their local public library to purchase a copy of this fine work
