If you want a more comprehensive approach on occupational medicine, I'd suggest a full blown textbook. But, if you want something quick and dirty to get very basic facts this is a good book. Probably more useful for the primary care physician who may come across certain occ med issues occasionally in their practice. It wouldn't be fair to give it four stars due to its lack of depth, but that's not what it's for anyway.

Note the correct title of the book should be Peritoneal Adhesions, not Deritoneal Adhesions The book summarises the procedings of the meeting held in September 1995 in Aachen, Germany. It summarises very consisely the state of the art knowledge on the pathogenesis and prevention of surgical adhesions. Most, if not all, of the world's experts on this subject have contributed chapters. It has several excellent chapters on related subjects such as the one on pericardial or cardiac adhesions by Wiseman.
An excellent source book for anyone who wants to know more about this field.

Better Than a Cure for Breast Cancer!

Breast cancer that is prevented doesn't need to be cured. Cures are expensive, prevention is free. We now know how to prevent most breast cancer! Eighty two year old John Gofman, M.D., Ph.D., author of "Preventing Breast Cancer" is one of the premier scientists of all time with medical and scientific credentials that fill five pages. Gofman states in an epic 1999 (699 page) study that "Between 83 percent and 90 percent of all breast cancer can be attributed to medical radiation (X-rays). (For an executive summary see: http://www.ratical.org/radiation /CNR/RMP/. Gofman is the author of many books and more than a hundred articles in scientific peer-review journals. He will not accept a royalty or commission of any kind for his books about preventing cancer. This selfless humanitarian has done more to save lives (present and future) than anyone since Semmelweis and Lister. Gofman's research will be a very "bitter pill" for modern medicine to swallow. Without it, healing of the health care system cannot occur. Many will discount Gofman's latest work without reading it. Most doctors will concede that X-rays are harmful but challenge the numbers. Some would rather their patients not know about X-rays causing cancer. Others will continue to ignorantly repeat the "safe-dose" claim. Though The World has always crucified it's saviors, the day will come when no one will question Gofman's research (the same as no one today questions the connection between cigarettes and cancer). Criticism of Gofman's research, judges the critic, not Gofman. The above Study and his book "Preventing Breast Cancer" constitutes one of the two most important cancer discoveries of the last century (the other being the Cigarette/Cancer Connection). We cannot hope to win the war on cancer without recognizing the major cause of breast cancer which Gofman so eloquently presents. "Peventing Breast Cancer" is a must for everyone concerned with the disease.

I borrowed "Preventive Cardiology" from the library, and after reading through it, I decided to purchase it! Excellent background of epidemiologic information complete with crisp charts and graphs, great up to date explanations of pathophysiology, well formed treatment recommendations and guidelines presented. There is a wealth of up to date information consistant with the current primary literature on laboratory and diagnositic tests, medications, diet, and patient assessment. "Preventive Cardiology" is well written, easy to read, and a great reference tool for all health care providers.

This volume is the latest in a series devoted to the strategies required by intensive care specialists to combat the evolving challenge of microbial infections. The Editors' objectives are to provide an update of therapeutic implications and discussion of controversial topics in specific infections involving critically ill patients. Two authors representing management perspectives in Europe and North America discuss each topic. This volume focuses on life-threatening infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, arguably one of the most adaptable opportunistic pathogens. Twenty-five expert contributors discuss a spectrum of serious P. aeruginosa infections in intensive care units and chronic infections in individuals with cystic fibrosis. The focused nature of the topic might limit the volume's appeal to a wide readership. There is no doubt, however, that the 13 well written contributions reflect the importance and evolving challenge of P. aeruginosa infections, and provide clinicians, scientists - and inquisitive, young microbiologists - with a highly informative and state-of-the-art resource. John Govan, University of Edinburgh, Microbiology Today, Vol. 31, February 2004, page 47.

This is the a very well written, and one of the most comprehensive books on travel medicine available today. It is focused specifically for travel health care providers - but it would also be very useful as a resource for the avid traveler. If you are thinking about starting a travel clinic - this is a must have.

This is an excellent book for any practitioner of the homeopathic arts. It's okay for a lay person, but better for someone with at least some knowledge of homeopathy. I highly recommend it, very well written and informative.
