A difficult process made easier by this bookReview Date: 2008-07-08
My spouse and I did not know whether we wanted to mediate or collaborate; after reading one chapter we went the collaboration route. (The info on litigated/contested divorce kept us on the path to collaboration!)
Ms. Stark writes clearly & concisely. The chapters are well organized to follow the chronology of a divorce. Frequent icons in the margins call attention to certain aspects of your decision making and give advice on the steps involved. The layout is clean and highly readable.
Many references in the back of the book help one find support, services, and materials to get you through. I purchased three other divorce books at the same time, but found myself relying on this one alone.
Consider this a necessity. Consider this helpful even if you don't live in Connecticut!
Amazingly helpful!Review Date: 1998-08-22
Besides outlining the value of the mediation process in reaching closure and saving money, Stark provides a step-by-step how-to guide. Just as important, she offers an overview of the psychological stages of divorce that offers reassurance and preparation.
As a person using this book myself, I can recommend it to other Nutmeggers who find themselves needing to end a marriage. Doing so is always painful; Stark offers a guiding hand to help manage this passage.

Intro to International StudiesReview Date: 2004-04-01
presents the example of Kosovo as the example of failure of ethical intervention that inadvertently creates a fragmented society without the moral cohesion the intervention is supposed to produce. The latter parts of the book seem to mention the emergance of a liberal elite which uses ethics to create a New World Order with moral superiors in control. This sounds rather radical, yet this book does a good job of presenting the case that ethical intervention is not what it appears to be. The book brings shocking instances of dubious international law practices and it shows a lack of structure in the ethics first defense. There seems to be no objective criteria or accepted moral system to guide the decision making of the so-called liberal elite and NGO's of Chandler's. In addition, the book introduces the concept of a new political system that is disenchanted with the status quo and the presents a growing emphasis on normative forms of reasoning for international intervention. Lastly, Kosovo to Kabul presents a new non-functional "political" system that legitimizes hedgemonic practices.

A government's duty is to its own people, where there is accountability: only within a state can a people control its government and govern its affairs. But now a liberal elite of `the great and the good', a `global civil society, independent of states and state boundaries', appoint themselves guardians of others' rights, as against the rest of us, mere `vested interests'.
`Our betters' redefine political matters as moral or legal, to be decided not in public by the people, but behind closed doors by World Bank or European Central Bank, by Royal Commissions, judicial reviews, task forces or think tanks, and at work by ethics committees and Quality Assurance groups.
Abroad, Blair uses a `people-centred' approach of rights enforcement, which trumps peacemaking and negotiations. `Morality' and `international justice' trump law and destroy sovereignty. ...

Fundamentals of California Litigation for Paralegals is a textbook used for students at L.A. Mission Paralegal Program and so if anyone out there from the college needs to purchase this book, I would like to recommend this Brand New Book that comes with a Brand New CD since I dropped the class before this textbook was ever even delivered to my home.
Thank you - and hope you have a great time browsing around Amazon.
I thought I would take this perfect opportunity to try to sell it online here in this forum.
Sending good thoughts and warm wishes to everyone.

THE DEFINITIVE BOOK ON TRIAL FUNDAMENTALS...Review Date: 2006-12-08
The book gives the reader instructive examples on ways of accomplishing a specific task, which, while not dispositive, are invaluable to the inexperienced. It gives the novice a starting point from which one may develop his or her own particular style. The book offers basic trial techniques without which no novice trial lawyer should be. It is your basic primer on trial work with the emphasis on jury trials. It is well organized and easy to follow. If you only have room for one trial techniques book on your shelf, this should be the one.

An excellent way to reinforce conceptsReview Date: 2007-06-13
Extremely helpful!Review Date: 2007-10-19
By the time I ordered them, and they arrived at my house, there was less than 1 week until the "real" quiz. I worked with the cards each day up until quiz day, and not surprisingly, I was very confident during the quiz. There were 35 questions total, and I only missed ONE for a score of 97%!
Each individual type of future interest, conceptually, is not very difficult to understand. However, it is very easy to get them mixed up in the more complicated, detailed scenarios/fact patterns. This product was invaluable in my mastery of future interests. To me, future interest "problems" are similar to mathematical problems. The more practice you have with a particular type of problem, the more automatic that type of calculation becomes.
My Property book has a few problems listed in the "Notes" section; however, they are few in number, and there are (of course) no answers! This product, however, contains numerous cards (organized by type) for each of future interest. The cards contain varying levels of difficulty, ranging from simple to complicated. The explanation on the back of each card is very detailed, and easy to understand. Many of them not only contain the answer, but also have what the answer(s) would be if various facts in the question were altered.
If you are struggling with future interests, or if you just want to further your grasp on the various concepts, you definitely need to order these cards. They made all the difference for me, and I highly recommend them!

A Courageous And Compelling BookReview Date: 2007-08-29
Generally those favoring physician assisted suicide are on the most liberal side of the American political spectrum. But Gorsuch convincing argues that the intellectual roots of their proposals are actually from Social Darwinism, the American eugenics movement, and the National Socialist Party of Germany of the 1930's. Adolph Hitler is directly quoted on page 36. What is publicly presented as a civil right involving "personal autonomy" would in practice present a serious threat to the safety of the most vulnerable members of society. Gorsuch quotes with obvious approval the 1994 British House of Lords study which argued that it would not be logically possible to frame sufficient safeguards to guarantee that all "voluntary" suicides would in fact actually be voluntary.
A "reform" which completely rejects the traditions of Western Civilization and makes homicide legal is not one which should be adopted without consideration of all the facts. Our author calls the debaters away from the realm of theory, speculation, and one liners--and back to the real world.
