A fun to read book for the sports law enthusiast.Review Date: 1998-11-15
This book is ideal for University Sports Law courses, because of its scholarly layout; each chapter begins with a lawsuit, which is then broken down into relevant case law and highlights important facts of each subject. The reader is then given pertinent review questions and Internet sites for further thought and discussion. I enjoyed the appendixes where he had actual contracts and rules that athletes must abide by.
This book was fun to read as a sports law student and an avid sports fan.

Two things are emphasized in this work: 1. Refuse to be a doormat for the examiner and 2. Perseverance eventually pays off.
The book is also extremely valuable if you have not had the pleasure of an IRS examination - it gives great information in making your records examination ready.
The results of my examination were better than could be expected. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Could tax controversy really be this fun?Review Date: 2007-12-06
My tax law practice if focused in the area of Estate Tax Planning and Asset Protection. I have very limited experience in representing any clients before the IRS. But while reading Stand Up to the IRS I began to think that it seemed like a pretty fun thing to do--yes I am a tax nerd. Seriously though, anyone who maybe faced with a tax controversy should read this book, even if you are going to hire an attorney. Not only will you save money on attorneys fees, but you will have a much better understanding of the process and will be able to discuss the issues intelligently with your lawyer--if he is a good lawyer he will appreciate that, if he does not get a new lawyer, or maybe just go back to Mr. Daily's book and do it yourself.

Excellent to have if you have a disagreement with the govReview Date: 2003-11-02
I'd highly recommend Daily's book as it has the insider perspective that a taxpayer needs but the dose of reality to prevent a false sense of security when negotiating with the IRS. Daily provides perspective as to what will work in your favor and what you can do to prevent yourself from working against yourself.

Excellent overview of the basic rights of an injured worker.Review Date: 1998-07-08
There is more emphasis in this book on answers and "by the number" processes than legal precedent or analysis, which I find easier to follow for the lay person. Chris Ball also has a number of forms included with simple completion directions.
If someone is looking for an overview with more legal justification or reference to statutes, the California Workers' Compensation Handbook is an excellent choice. This book by Stanford Herlick is updated every year, and has shorter sections with less hand-holding.
I think that the Herlick paperback is the reference source of choice for the attorney or paralegal to carry in the car or briefcase for quick review of issues and solutions.
Workers Comp Injury? You need to have this book!Review Date: 2004-08-29
Excellent resource for all partiesReview Date: 2004-02-12
This book is easy to read and understand. I am a nurse case manager for workers comp injuries and found this book extremely helpful. I encourage all my clients to obtain this book even if they have a lawyer. It gives them a solid knowledge base when the docs, attorneys and insurance people are throwing terms around.
It is well organized and follows a normal sequence of events. It was written by an attorney who handles workers comp cases.
I highly recommend this book.

There is an Art to Trial AdvocacyReview Date: 2007-10-16
For opening statements in a personal injury case he teaches that instead of beginning with a saying such as "Driving too fast is negligent," you should capture the jury's attention with "Last August the truck driver sitting over there was going too fast and killed a little girl." Lawyers are too often focused on the details executing techniques and Ball reminds us that developing the art of trial advocacy is the most important skill of all.

More timely than ever, unfortunatelyReview Date: 2001-09-26
A handful who are aware of this salient point are claiming that airline security was lax owing to "market failure." This is supposed to relieve us of the responsibility to establish security by means that respect rights.
But Bruce Benson's _To Serve and Protect_ addressed all of this several years ago -- broadly and in principle, though of course with no explicit discussion of the proper security measures for airlines to implement. What Benson provides in this volume is a thorough defense of a superficially counterintuitive claim that becomes less and less counterintuitive as time goes on: the free and private market is better, _much_ better, at providing security and criminal justice than is the government.
That means that his book is, sadly, perhaps more timely now than when it was written. By a simple extrapolation of the arguments presented herein, the recent tragedies indicate, not that "private" security provisions put us at risk of "market failures," but that a government monopoly on criminal justice costs lives.
Benson is also the author of the highly recommended _The Enterpise of Law_, which sets out probably the most thorough case to date that _law_ can exist without the institutions of a territorial State. This volume is in some ways a sequel, setting out a positive case as to how "private" criminal law works and why it is, consistently and in principle, superior to government regulation. (And allegations of "market failure" are specifically addressed.)
Check it out. The need for Benson's arguments has never been greater at any time since its publication.
