Pharmacy Books

This is the 4th edition of the book and is well developed. If you have Martin's Physical Pharmacy, you'll find this book a suitable reference as well. This book focuses more on the industrial setting while Martin's focuses on the physical (as noted by the title). If you are working at any point in the formulation of a drug, this book is a must have.

About a year ago I bought this book & I can honestly say it's one of my most used books. It's very scientific & yet you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what it is saying. The first part of the book deals with different disorders such as ADHD, Diabetes, Hepatitis, Arthritis, & much more. Under the different disorders it gives different examples of what people have tried to treat them with. Then it proceeds to different scientific tests that either proves or disproves the treatment.
The second part of the book deals with herbs & their therapeutic uses. Again here different uses & tests are provided for each herb. This book also discussed dosage recommendations, safety issues, drug interactions, & great references to other material. Overall this is a very useful book. The copy that I purchased contains over 1,000 pages & it covers everything from migraine headaches to the various vitamins. I recommend this book not only to the med student but to the average person just wanting useful & real information about herbs and their therapeutic uses.

John Mann creatively links science and history together by referencing historical events, like the witch trials, to chemicals produced naturally by microorganisms, plants and animals. I use this book in an introductory science course to demonstrate how important natural products are in our society today -- whether the chemical is beneficial or deadly. Easy reading for the non-scientist, but factual enough for the scientist.

I finished this book on a transatlantic flight and found it hard to put down. Although written primarily those treating patients directly, this book is written with an easy to read style that makes it enjoyable, and I think would be accessible even for those with less technical training. The author takes lots of study data and sumamrizes what is known and not known about the most common products our patients are using. The format uses patient cases as a learning tool. It also discusses the role of usual agents--and where the others fit in. I am much more confident in the use of these agents--and also in where to go when I need more information or wish to recommend a particular product. I highly recommend it.

This book was really good. I had been reading about all these new herbs and stuff but didn't know much and didn't have access to good information on them. So Hatfield's book really filled a need for me. He writes in an easy-going style about complicated stuff, so it's easy to follow. Very cool book. Very upbeat. I've been buying these vitamins now and using them and feel much better after working out. Thank you.

I use this book every day in clinicals as a Nursing student. I own 2 other drug books but they now sit on my computer desk.

I might be biased, but boy! this book really does cover everything you ever wanted to know about nettles. Cooking with nettles, different herbal medicine traditions including current uses, neat tidbits, great recipes ... I can't wait to try out the Nettle Arishtam, and can vouch for Henriette's Potato Mush ;) - Janice has done it again.

Nuclear Medicine in Pharmaceutical Research is a suitable connection between Nuclear Medicine area and those who are working in pharmaceutical development. Chapters 1 to 3 give a general and detailed background. Chapters 4 to 9 gather an important information which is spread throughtout scientific literature related to a broad spectrum of drug delivery applications: respiratory tract, oesophageal transit, stomach and small bowel, colonic release and absorption, ocular studies and drug carriers. Perkins and Frier's book is written in very comprehensive way and gives very useful information.

This is or seems to be the newest version of the Drug reference known to me as the Govoni & Hayes "Drugs and Nursing Implications" reference book, which I searched for by name unsuccessfully for weeks. In my opinion this is THE most complete and easy to use drug reference. And it is now available in a much easier to carry around smaller size. I strongly recommend this for Nursing Students because of the way it is formatted. Drugs are listed alphabetically by generic name which is how most hospital pharmacies dispense them.
