Great histology book!

I recommend this book both to medical students who are studying histology for the first time and to doctors. I, as a pathology resident, found this book very helpful for studying the normal structure of organs because of its great pictures (including special stains and electron microscopy) and its easy-to-understand yet detailed text. Also the clinical, physiological and cell biological correlations (presented as text boxes throughout the book) help you a lot in getting a more clear picture about the presented organ or tissue.

This is the best histology book I have seen. Good for molecular biology researchers as well-better then many standard textbooks. Very good discussions of development of cell types as well as structural histology.

The photos are very good in this book. If you are taking histology I do recommend this one. This is a complete text. Each subject area is expertly done (example) muscle tissue, bone, skin etc.
If you want also a great studying tool to help you prepare for your exams, I recommend HISTOLOGY STUDY GUIDE: KEY REVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS author Patrick Leonardi. This helped me!!!

Makes a difficult topic very approachable

This is a very well produced book wilth many illustrations which make histology, a topic I've taught but never mastered, make more sense. While the book is very approachable, it is still very much in-depth and if you are looking for a more introductory text, you may want to consider getting an atlas to begin. However, medical and graduate students would do very well with this text since it bridges the molecular mechanisms active in cells to the microscopic structure of tissues and organs. It also brings the microscopic structure and function into view regarding the gross anatomical perspective as well, giving a top-to-bottom appraisal of histology. This would have been a five-star rating if only the pages were not so whispy that my highlighter bled through to the other side of the page repeatedly. Students, buy this book with confidence, but underline rather than highlight!

I got this book as a review and to renew my license, but ended up being quite immersed in the complete and easy learning way it was written. Even with new methods and drugs, nursing is still hands on, and this book was very, very informative. I am so happy I chose a course which required reading this book.

Nuclear Medicine in Pharmaceutical Research is a suitable connection between Nuclear Medicine area and those who are working in pharmaceutical development. Chapters 1 to 3 give a general and detailed background. Chapters 4 to 9 gather an important information which is spread throughtout scientific literature related to a broad spectrum of drug delivery applications: respiratory tract, oesophageal transit, stomach and small bowel, colonic release and absorption, ocular studies and drug carriers. Perkins and Frier's book is written in very comprehensive way and gives very useful information.

Who was the moron who edited this book?

This book is absolutely rife with grammatical and spelling errors. If poor editing (or, more likely in this case, NO editing) bothers you, do NOT buy this book, as you will be too distracted by the numerous errors to concentrate on the content. Here are some of the more blatant examples from chapter 70: Paraneoplastic's Disorders; Endocrine's Disorders; Neurologic's Disorders; Hematologic's Disorders; Dermatologic's Disorders. Please, people -- it's called spell check, or use your half of a brain and hire a real editor.

Blueprints series is overall pretty good. The Medicine book is a quick read that will give the reader a sufficient amount of knowledge and detail regarding that subject matter, however I think that it is appropriate to supplement some of the chapters with Cecil's to get a full understanding of the material. Overall, I recommend this book because it is a quick read and it isnt in the "bullet" style format that many of the books are- but rather in a flowing paragraph form.

I have just finished my internal medicine rotation and found this book quite useful to study from. It is easy to find relevant material and it had everything but the very most recent research, which you won't get in any book anyway. Overall, I use it and plan on using it as a reference when needing to go over internal medicine again. P.S. I also find Harrisons necessary, and the washington manual of course.

great book!!

you wont regret it!!!

MUST HAVE FOR IM ROTATION

First I have to say the Blueprints Medicine book is probably the best review book I've ever read. It does not replace the Washington Manual or UPTODATE, but its very helpful to have with you. While it's a bit larger than the UCV or BRS style books, I feel it is worth it. With each chapter averaging 6-15 pages it makes for a very flexible review schedule. If a student were to read it while on a medicine for 4-8 weeks it makes for a great nightly read. At the same time using it as a board review book is another option. Single chapters are easily digested with the help of numerous key point boxes and easy to read charts scattered throughout the chapters. Honestly, I found this book very enjoyable to read. The question section at the end of book nicely completes the package. While Cecil's is a nice reference book to keep on the shelf this book is a must to keep in your backpack and read on those 20 minute breaks on rotations.

The service and quality of the book was great by amazon. The book is a bit on the dry side, but mainly great, accurate, and relative data!! A little too in depth for the nuclear medicine technologist, but even better for the nuclear physician. Helpful overall!!

Not for the experienced nurse
Helpful Votes: 20 out of 23 total.
Review Date: 2003-10-28
This is a very good book for an academic setting or for a new RN. It was not however helpful to me, a nurse with more than two decades of experience. This book contains rudimentary information, with examples of excellent charting but as a quick reference for unusual circumstances I felt in was cumbersome at best.

Good for New Nurse

I agree this probably wouldn't be the best text for an experienced nurse, however, it includes a lot of the basics which is great for a new nurse like me who is still learning proper documentation.

If what you need is a detailed book with extensive writing on theory and practice with few practical examples, you may want to invest in a different text. However, if you what you need is book with examples of documentation on several areas, this is your text. Personnally, I just need to flip to the subject and follow the example. I am pleased with this simple, straight to the point text.
