I haven't had a chance to read the whole book however what I have read has been helpful and informative. The book itself was shipped in excellent condition and, like many of the books I've bought through Amazon, I think I purchased it used and it looks new. And, I don't plan on just using it to balance out my washing machine ;-).

I am in my mid-40s and have toyed with the idea of doing a triathlon for quite some time. Somehow, when I would begin to really get the training ramped up, I would run in to a problem. I believe that I was probably bringing on the problems with less than ideal nutrition. So, though I harbor no aspirations of being a serious athlete, I have found that nutrition is an important--and often overlooked--aspect for even recreational athletes like me. Using the information in this book is allowing me to push my training farther than I ever have before and will get me across the finish line for my first triathlon sometime this summer.

I've been running since I was in high school and continued during and after graduationg college. It wasn't until recently that I decided to run my first half marathon. I have read lots of material on training and nutrition, but none have been as complete and informative. The first eight chapters are devoted to all endurance athletes. The last few chapters are each devoted to a particular endurance sport. This book has taught me how to fully prepare and train to successfully reach my goal. I would suggest this book for anyone interested in endurance sports.

Suzanne knows her stuff. I've been an ultrarunner and endurance athlete for nearly 25 years and I find Suzanne's wisdom and advice both on target and incredibly helpful. In fact, as I get older, which I am, her advice is seemingly even more relevant. Following her advice on everything from hydration to nutrition to stretching has been vital to me being able to keep doing what I love to do. The bottom line is that proper nutrition is key to optimal performance and the information in this book can ensure you're geting both.

This is a serious sports nutrition book for serious athletes. It is packed with information for the endurance athlete or those coaching endurance/elite athletes. In addition to providing a complete nutritional overview for the elite athlete, Endurance Sports touches on other related subjects such as hydration, the effectiveness of supplements, food intolerances, eating disorders and even optimal eating for the vegetarian athlete. As a nutrition writer, this book is an integral part of my reference library.

Nice approach to TCM basics for westerners, a softer sell than Fertility Cure, but not as "scientific." Still, with an authentic "Asian matriarch" voice (smile). Provides actual recipes and meal suggestions, a big plus when trying to change your diet.

After struggling with secondary infertility for 1 year, I had given up on conventional medicine and turned to TCM. I read this book (as well as some others) and immediately made an appointment with a local accupuncturist. After 3 months of accupuncture, modifying my diet and taking chinese herbs, I was pregnant. Baby #2 was born healthy just 6 weeks ago and he will always by my "accu baby". Buy the book - trust your body and give Traditional Chinese Medicine a chance to work for you!

Forever Ageless: Advanced Edition - Review

Chef Rothenberg and company have successfully cooked up the most up-to-date and artfully presented "tomato sauce" of Preventive and Regenerative Medicine to date. Whether it's a quick, nuts and bolts reference for patient education and treatment algorithms (the CD power points are great for patient ed) or a thorough, in depth, peer review supported guide to complex, multi-factorial, treatment decisions...from history, evaluation and testing, treatments, exercise, diet, clinical and legal implications, supportive abstracts and references, "It's in there!" The book is written, depicted and organized in a practical, user friendly manner for both patients and "in the trenches" practitioners. This state of the art opus breaks a complex area of medicine down and puts it back together, an ingredient at a time, in an understandable, common sense, open-minded fashion that is hugely educational and an enjoyable read. Forever Ageless: Advanced Edition is destined to be a top seller and deserves a place in everyone's personal library. Help your patients and lengthen your own "Healthspan". Get this book...read it...live it ... and "live long, healthy and prosper"!

This is an amazing threatise on antiaging. It is a MUST for patients contemplating any antiaging treatment. In addition, for physicians practicing antiaging medicine it is a great resource. I recommened this book whole heartedly to anyone in the antiaging field and to those considering adding this scope of medicine to their practice.

As a practicing physician I have used this book many times as a reference. It has proven to be very helpful with all my HRT problem solving needs and it is also loaded with references which support the science of antiaging.

Dr. Rothenberg's most recent book "Forever Ageless", Advanced Edition is an updated overview of Anti-Aging Medicine that has no peer. This rapidly emerging field of medicine provides the answer to the inadequacies of traditional western medicine. The treatise is versatile enough to provide a Reader's Digest overview of selected topics while also providing references from the medical literature that in turn provides the scientific basis for this new approach to health care. The format explores the impact of various lifestyle modifications as well as the more recent additions to our armamentarium, supplements and hormone replacement. Theory is brought alive with specific algorithms understandable to both the physician and the patient. Specific information is provided on daily requirements of various food groups, supplements, ect. Dr. Rothenberg is truly a proven leader in this field that will eventually change the way we practice medicine. I highly recommend this valuable resource to the layman as well as the healthcare professional. James F. Lineback MD

David Ford's book reads like a James Bond tale of intrigue. From humble lifeguard beginnings, through Hollywood illuminatti, sexcapades and fast-track adventures, David shows compassion and concern for the Average Joe's right to smoke and be free. A long time advocate of legal and safe use of marijuana, this book is not a polemic but a story of one man's journey. A great read and a great romp.

Good Medicine, Great Sex! is the personal and iconoclastic memoir of David R. Ford in which he unashamedly proclaims the virtues of marijuana for creativity, medicine, pleasure, and sexual enhancement. Sharply denying the government's strict anti-cannabis stance, and framing the his own illustrious, successful, and high-profile life with great acknowledgment for marijuana's beneficial herbal powers, David Ford is intriguingly unrepentant in its advocacy in behalf of marijuana usage. This along with wonderful anecdotes of his personal encounters with Gary Cooper, Don HO, Bing Crosby, Henry J. Kaiser, Groucho Marx, Wayne Newton, Richard Nixon, John F. Kennedy, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Cab Calloway, Liberace, and Jonathan Winters, make Good Medicine, Great Sex! good autobiography and great reading!

I throughly enjoyed David Ford's new book Good Medicine Great Sex. The author has found the perfect balance of information on the history of marjuana prohibition and attention grabing experience of his over fifty years of using marjuana to enhance his productive life.
I was glued to every page wondering whether I would be giggling inside from the unbelievable and creative stunts David would pull to achieve his goal or have tears pouring from my eyes from the dramatic losses he has had to endure.
I recomend this book not just because it will captivate you as the reader but also because you get a unique perspecive on how and why Marjuana is illegal from someone who has lived through all of it's changes for the last fifty years.

I WISH EVERY AMERICAN COULD READ THIS BOOK! David Ford's eloquent and often hysterically funny life story tells us all we need to know. We bought into LIES for over three decades! WHY NOT LEGALIZE, TAX and REGULATE cannabis? DAVE FORD DESERVES A MEDAL for his refreshing candor and his extraordinary courage. His Mother's uncommon wisdom, and his appreciation for her, touched me deeply. BUY THIS BOOK! I guarantee you'll enjoy it. ** This reviewer is a retired (reformed?) 'drug warrior' - now a public speaker - deeply scarred by her own role in DRUG PROHIBITION, and our government's hypocracy. Drug prohibition is a nightmare...but every cloud has a SILVER LINING ~~ David Ford is positively a RAY OF LIGHT in these dark days of PROHIBITION. I wouldn't normally read a book on marijuana. I questioned whether marijuana had medical value. I must admit, the title of author David R. Ford's newest book caught my attention: 'Good Medicine, Great Sex! How Marijuana Brought Me Creativity, Passion, and Prosperity'. It is so different from what the government propaganda says, I bought a copy. I'm so glad I did. The 50 plus years of true-life adventures of a man who has
interacted with thousands of medical and social users of cannabis, kept me reading.

This courageous book by a cancer survivor, and former broadcaster with CBS television in Hawaii, has convinced me that the government is lying about this herb. The author makes the medical value clear, and with excellent reference notes. Now I believe that no one should go to prison for having
cannabis in their possession. You will learn why the government and big business keep this virtually harmless plant illegal. Everyone should read this book who wants to know the true reason why this plant is kept illegal!

Julia Carroll's fascinating book is a journey through a gifted healer's world. We travel with her deep into the inner terrain of the body-being, high into the multi-dimensional realms of spiritual guidance and assistance, and around the world in her quest to learn and to serve those called to her for healing. All along the way, we are touched by the people her healing hands and heart have touched. Carroll also shares with the reader healing secrets learned from many traditions, but it is the stories of her work with specific clients that reveal to us her greatest secret: her total surrender to and trust in the healing power of Grace.

Review Date: 2006-02-06
In this life, Julia Carroll signs on to be a Master Healer. Her personal journey into the world of spirit and the realities of modern medicine initiate the reader into the both the possibilities and dangers of the qwest. Time and again Julia summons forth deep inner courage and spiritual wisdom to make tough choices, often life and death decisions - sometimes her own. The book left me feeling that the life of a healer is a precarious one at best-full of tests of faith, courage and grace. It also left me marveling over the divine protection available to each of us when we finally commit to our gifts and doing God's work.

When I finished reading the book, I turned to the blank pages at the back and chronicled many coincidences, divine protection and amazing experiences that I too have encountered along the way. The book was not just an autobiography, but a well thrown grenade made to shake me up and make me think beneath the surface of my own life.

Thanks to Julia for openly and generously sharing healing secrets from various traditions in the final chapters of the book and for connecting the dots through the use of case studies to some of the psychologial cords that bind our lives and influence our health and well-being.I also appreciate Julia's sharing her spiritual life and the amazing student/ teacher relationship she treasures so deeply.

The subject of the complexities of karmic ties, other dimension, psychic and intuitice experiences, spiritual masters is not an easy one to tackle.

Julia, through her personal story, does a formidable job of opening us up to other realities and ways of connecting and healing. She gives us a new language to use, a reference point from which to launch a more vibrant and conscious life.

It is an exciting autobiography, inconceivable at times, leaving me breathless and grateful that I haven't had to face all of Julia Carroll's trials - yet!

Review Date: 2008-07-23
Most people know of the Amazon rainforest only because of ecological concerns. This is unfortunate since the rainforest is far more than just a figurehead for Green Peace. In THE HEALING POWER OF RAINFOREST HERBS, Leslie Taylor provides a starting point for those who know little of rainforests in general but wish to learn of the medicinal properties of its indigenous plants. My own interest I suspect is typical. I take a variety of nutritional supplements and over the years I realized I needed a reliable source to explain the use of some of the more arcane herbs commercially available. Taylor's book proved a boon. Taylor organizes her text in a commonsense way. She provides an alphabetical list of rainforest herbs that ranges from Abuta to Yerba Mate. She later adds a great deal of information about each herb that is not readily available anywhere else, even on the internet (I've looked). What I found particularly useful is her listing of each herb's traditional usage and chemical compositions. Yet, HPRH is far more than a shaman's field guide to rainforest herbs. Taylor uses the Amazon rainforest as both a literal and symbolic metaphor for the human need to find a working balance between using the environment to survive and abusing it to make a buck.

A Scientific Approach to Change

Review Date: 2004-03-25
In the thorougly revised edition of the "Heroic Client", Duncan, Miller, and Sparks now advocate "A Revolutionary Way to Improve Effectivness." They invite mental health professionals, of any discipline, to partner with clients in all aspects of their care and abandon the search for the best therapeutic process or evidence-based therapy, and instead, focus on client-based outcome feedback to improve effectivness by an incredible 65 percent!

As in the previous edition, the strength of the authors' arguments for practicing "Client-Directed, Outcome-Informed Therapy" lies in their comprehensive and enlightening review of the science behind "what works" in psychotherapy. The revised edition updates the reader on the latest empirical findings targeting the limitations of applying the medical model toward resolving human problems-namely the myth of psychiatric diagnosis, the myth of evidence-based practice, and the myth of the magic pill. The sections examining the science of evidence-based practice and the ethics and science of using medications (especially for children) are significantly expanded, thought provoking, and timely. Also of significance, in the revised edition is the authors' unvailing of their own empirically tested process (Session Rating Scale-SRS) and outcome (Outcome Rating Scale-ORS) measures which have adequate psychometric properties, and of equal importance, are designed to be feasible for clinical settings. Using the SRS and ORS together, the authors report that their outcome management system offers the only system currently available which tracts both outcome and the alliance in a practical manner. Finally, as in the original text, Duncan, Miller, and Sparks intersperse case examples throughout their book to demonstrate the application of their approach to helping people change.

The revised edition could stand alone, without the reader needing to read it's predesesor. The only dissappointment to this reviewer was the mention in the first edition of The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Pilot Project- Duncan and Miller's proposed solution to address some of the problems associated with conducting outcome research in the clinical setting. In the original "Heroic Client", they stated that results were preliminary because the study was still underway at press time and that two replications were planned. Unfortunately, the revised edition does not revisit this promising study.

Nonetheless, Duncan, Miller, and Sparks offer a simple, yet compelling message which has tremendous ramifications for the training, practice, and the delivery of mental health services. They are not just whinning about "business as usual" nor do they advocate another theory or therapy method which falls short of empirical support. Instead, the authors remind therapists that we are in the business of change, and out of respect for our clients who seek our sevices and the third party payors who help reimburse it, we must translate empirical research into an approach that they so rightly state will be "effective, accountable, and just." Their alternative vision of the future of mental health is a must read for students and practitioners alike.

After being a counselor for over thirty years it is refreshing to see a scholarly book by authors who understand what is important in change, growth and healing. For far too long therapists and medicine have taken credit for the work done by the clients.

This book outlines important research and common sense reasons why we need to really listen to the client and his family to learn how to support what he is doing to be healthy. Anyone interested in helping people change can benefit from this newest volume from the people who get what counseling is all about.

Ken has done a magificent job in Honoring The Medicine. Nothing of this caliber has been done since Vogel's classic on the subject. A must read for anyone desiring to understand Native American medicine.
