With all those books on breastfeeding out there, you might be tempted to buy the good-old question-answer based book. But believe me you will still have the: Is this what a doctor might tell me? question back there in your head. This book, however; presents you with more complete answers that experts on the breastfeeding subject have studied. You will end up being an expert on breastfeeding yourself. Even friends call me to check a prescripted medicine on the chapter that classifies almost-all prescriptions with scales as to how they affect and enter the breastmilk. Be assured, you will be fully satisfied and, as I found myself; exceed your expectations.

As a gynecologist based in Spain, I found this book extremely helpful while counseling my patients about breastfeeding, and while breastfeeding myself. I think most obstetrical textbooks do not cover enough the aspect of breastfeeding, and numerous questions remain to be answered, some as simple as: both breasts or one breast?. These simple questions, however, are an important source of stress to new mothers. Apart from that, the more "medical" aspects of the book are also exceptional. A must for all medical professionals involved in pregnancy, birth and infant care.

This should be required reading for any physician caring for the breastfeeding mother or the breastfed baby. With all of the mythology surrounding breastfeeding and the wide range of advice given to nursing mothers, it is essential that practitioners give accurate, informed advice. Reading this book will allow health care professionals to do so.

This book is so simple to read and once you start you don't want to put it down. The first few pages make you want to run out to the grocery store and hit the produce isle. It honestly makes you change your entire way of thinking when it comes to eating. You'll want that fruit salad rather than the candy bar. It's just such' a GREAT and easy to read and so easy to absorb book! Everyone is getting one for christmas!

A friend told me about this book and how much the concepts when applied, had helped her feel so much better - and healthier! I have been following the ideas for around 4 weeks now and couldn't agree more. Even though my goal was not to lose weight, I've lost 10 pounds just by eating better - according to color! And believe it or not, I feel better as well. Buy this book and a bright highlighter. You'll soon be marking your favorite brightly colored foods - and then filling your grocery cart with them. Well written, easy to understand and chock full of references - it simply makes sense.

It is now 5 months later since I first reviewed this book and I've loaned out my copy to several people - all are experiencing similar results as I have. I continue to eat "by color", my weight has stayed off, I can't remember when I was last sick and what was merely a good book has become a terrific reference book. If you forget what particular benefits a certain color food has - simply look it up - layed out clearly in the book - by color of course!

NOTE: It is now January 2007 and I continue to eat according to "colors". My weight has stayed off, I was not sick even one day in 2006 and every week I fill up a plastic container (for work snacks) filled with vegetable color!

I absolutely love this book! I have wanted to try herbal remedies, but had no idea where to start until I read this book. I have been using the cleanse listed in chapter 4 and have lost 6 pounds, have more energy, and feel great! I have lent this book to friends and they have had similar responses. I had suffered from conditions that medication just didn't help and have found relief in just 1 week from remedies listed here! It is very easy to read and it explains problems A-Z. I highly recommend this book!

Not bad for your first herbal book. But it's visually cluttered and treads cautiously (and a little too cutely). A beginner doesn't want to tangle with bad or dangerous advice, though, so it's a good book to have in the bottom of your herbal book pile. As the best of medical advice and practice - "First, do no harm!"

Eating Between the Lines has a wealth of information about food. This book explains what the product labels really mean. I've never come across such a book before. It is presented in such a way that it keeps my attention. So, it is not just another boring nutrition book full of big words and numbers. I could really see taking this book to the grocery store for tips on healthy eating. I might feel a little silly if people look at me funny but I am sure the health benefits would be worth it. Maybe one day I would even know the info well enough to not have to bring the book to the store. But for now, I will brave the possibility of looking silly because a person just isn't born knowing the truth behind all the food labels.

I like this book because it's not agenda-driven or political. Kimberly Lord Stewart focuses on the yawning gap between a lot of people and the healthy food they want to eat, and feed their families. She stays away from the politics and answers questions like "What's the difference between organic and regular milk, and is organic worth the extra money?" and "How can I tell whether this fish is safe to eat?"

Stewart did a ton of research with authoritative sources. She knows her stuff.

If you want to read a philosophical treatise on food, buy The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals . But if you're trying to figure out which cereal to feed your 3-year-old, buy "Eating Between the Lines."

Even though I am a sustainable food business owner, I found so much new and helpful information in this book. Stewart has done a thorough job of researching and explaining, in language that everyone can understand, the labyrinthine inner-workings of the "natural," and not-so-natural food business. Eating Between the Lines should be the handbook every shopper keeps in his or her grocery cart!

Ten reasons I highly recommend Kimberly Lord Stewart's "Eating Between the Lines":

1. It's informative without being didactic or boring.
2. The anecdotes are entertaining and thought-provoking.
3. Several times during the reading of this book, I found myself saying out loud: "Wow! I didn't know that!"
4. I've gone back to the book several times to use as a reference before grocery shopping.
5. The book now holds an esteemed place in my house--above the stove with my dog-eared cookbooks.
6. It's obvious that Ms. Stewart has thoroughly researched this subject.
7. This has to be the best treatise on U.S. food laws written for the average American consumer.
8. I understand now the differences and similarities between organic, natural, farm-raised (etc, etc.) foods.
9. There is no agenda here---just thorough, reasoned, interesting writing.
10. Ms. Stewart's passion for food leaps right through the pages of "Reading Between the Lines"!

I hate the idea that being thin is healthy. Just because you are thin doesn't mean you are healthy. That said I wanted to say that I really enjoyed this book! I read it in two days, it usually takes me a month or so to read diet books. Diet books are so boring! This isn't really a diet book but a motivating to be healthy book!
The ideas behind the book are so simple, to lose weight and to maintain that weight. There are tips in here that seem so obvious but we tend to forget, we beat ourselves up and then start the process all over again.

This book is a great sequel to Anne Fletcher's previous book, Thin for Life on eating healthy and losing weight. While I recommend reading Thin for Life first for a lot of great tips on motivation and long-term strategies, Eating Thin for Life has inspiring stories from people who lost weight and a number of strategies as well.

The best aspects of this book are its recipes. It has a short section with suggestions of quick, balanced meals and snacks of set calorie value that you can put together with little to no cooking. Additionally, it has a longer section containing tons of recipes of all kinds - salads, main dishes, breakfasts, quick breads, desserts, etc. The recipes are surprisingly delicious and satisfying for how healthy they are, and I've already learned new cooking techniques for creating healthier recipes of my own. This book has helped me make a permanent switch to a better lifestyle and lose weight in the process!

It's a "must read" for anyone who is tired of the weight loss merry-go-round. Very encouraging!

As a professional nutritional consultant, I write a two page monthly newsletter and am in awe of the consistent high quality of what Dr. Ronzio has given us. In my efforts to distill pertinent material for the busy doctor from books and scientific articles, I have many reference and text books to further consult from. I invariably look to Dr. Ronzio's Encyclopedia on Nutrition and Good Health for integrity, clarity and depth of understanding in objective and concise terminology. Like the other reviewers of this enclyclopedia on nutrition and good health, I find it a very valuable and useful source.

I highly recommend that nutritional health professionals obtain two reference copies, one for their immediate use and the other as their waiting room copy. Its inviting manner with immediately usable information allows for a better educated patient with even a better chance of getting well.

I also recommend Dr. Ronzio's Enclylopedia to anyone having difficulty explaining the nature of good nutrition to the rest of the family. He adeptly addresses and clarifies much of the bogus nutritional information in today's terms and settings in a very easy to find and read format.

Thank you, Dr. Ronzio, for all your dedicated hard work to provide The Encyclopedia of Nutrition and Good Health.

This book really helped to change my life. Dino offers such wonderful advice and encouragement on how to loose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is not about a diet or eliminating a food group. It is about a lifestyle change. SO much of what I learned when reading this more than a year ago, I use on a weekly basis. This book teaches that we don't have to be a slave to diets or fads and we can have the foods that we want when we factor them into balanced eating.

The book was very informative and insightful.

He also hits on how the spiritual connects with the physical and how to balance them out in proper perspective. A great book for anyone wanting to have true weight loss at any age along with so many exercises you can do at home. Definitely a must read for anyone out there who has tried everything else and it hasn't worked. Clear explaination. Kind encouragement. At 62 and very overweight and under exercised and after many attempts to loose and get fit, I happended to hear an interview with the author and believed that he was genuine and that he had a real plan that might work. The book did not disappoint. It is not just for "beautiful" people or the young. Mind, body, and spirit are all addressed. I'm daring to hope again.

Finally

Finally a book on health and fitness that makes sense has been published. As a person who has struggled with overweight since childhood, I am rejoicing in a resource that not only makes sense but one that deals with the issue right where I live. At 54 years of age, I have probably lost and gained hundreds of pounds in my lifetime. As a fat teen and young adult I followed every diet that came along ... fad and legitimate ... always to the ultimate end of failure and discouragement. After years of one new diet or exercise regiem after another, I finally reconciled myself to the idea that I was pretty much going to be overweight for life.

Finding THE FINAL MAKEOVER by Dino Nowak, changed all of that for me. For the first time in my life I am following a program that a real person can follow and actually see results. Dino makes no claims in his book that cannot be proven out by simply following them and applying. There are no "silver bullets" in this program. It is simply one of commitment to discipline and hard work. Following the program outlined in FINAL MAKEOVER probably won't turn me into a magazine cover model. After following Dino's program for two months now I can say that I feel healthier and more energized than I have ever felt in my life. I am rarely if ever hungry. Following his simple instructions I simply eat when I am hungry, and do so in quantities that are appropriate to my fitness goals. My blood pressure has lowered sufficiently so that my physician has reduced my HBP meds for the first time in 10 years.

I have lost 20 pounds and have lost two pants sizes. I am seeing fat being replaced by solid muscle mass. In short, every day is bringing changes that encourage and inspire me to look toward a better day of fitness tomorrow.

Finally as a Christian, I am thrilled to have found someone who makes fitness a process through which the God I love is proclaimed and glorified.
It's not ALL about me, but the better I am for me, the greater I can function for Him! Fortunately God has blessed me with better health than I deserve, and certainly better than I have earned. Finding a Christian fitness professional who FIRST gives God all the glory and then shows me honestly how I can make my physical body the tool that God designed it to be, thrills my heart and motivates me to be my best. If in the process I can feel and look better than I ever have in my life, SO MUCH THE BETTER!!!!!
And as I joked with by best friend, "Maybe I'll never have a six-pack. BUT, maybe I will! Wouldn't that be a hoot!"

Kudos and thanks eternally to Dino for what he has done!

As a grandmother of an almost 3 year old grandson, with a severe peanut/tree nut allergy, I found this book great...but sadly, not complete. What is missing? Information about products, other than food, that can cause an alergic reaction. Products, for instance, like bean bag chairs stuffed with peanut shells; certain craft items, like paint or Moon Sand, made with peanut/tree nut oils. All are dangerous and can cause a reaction by contact. To keep him as safe as possible, I DON'T BUY ANYTHING UNLESS IT HAS A CUSTOMER CARE PHONE NUMBER LISTED ON THE LABEL. Everything he eats or comes in contact with must be checked and double checked!! Hope this helps others with the same difficulty.

Food is such an integral dynamic of our lives that we should all at least consider its impact on our bodies. In a modern age of fast food, uninhibited consumption and the cosmetic manipulation of basic commodities we truly need to reflect and refresh our blitzed minds with regard to what is truly good and that which is actually causing us considerable harm.

Ann Marie Colbin does this with methodical and systematic gusto. From the basics of living systems, the inherent energy fields and forces in foods, balance, quality and quantity, and to modern diets, wholeness, food preparation, diets, and food as medicine. Importantly, she concludes that we can employ our natural wisdom of foods to bring a valuable balance between our mind, body and spirit.

Food and healing is a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between good health and the quality of our consumption. This book is one amongst many in a new wave of scientific and natural dietetics that correctly identifies the source of many modern illnesses with the food that we eat. Colbin is objective and knowledgeable in her approach and advice, and I cannot recommend this book enough. Much of the information she offers is of a practical nature, and her seven criteria for food selection is a good example to follow; buy food that is 1)whole, 2)fresh, natural, real, organic, 3)seasonal, harmonic, 4)locally grown, 5)traditional, native, 6)balanced, nutritious, 7)delicious.

Bon appetit!

Loved it.

Understanding why we crave certain things, learning to listen to your body, and learning how to eat in a way that is enjoyable AND health supportive. Great book, I highly recomend it.

When I first borrowed this book from my acupuncturist/naturopath, I didn't think I'd ever actually get through it. But what I found was that I ended up reading it like a novel -- fascinated to learn about foods the way she presented it.

For example -- it really helped me to undertand the effects of sugar in a new way. Sugar in small amounts creates individuation and sugar in large amounts creates alientation. Also, Americans eat about 20 times more sugar than we did 100 years ago, and the average juvenile delinquent does 40 times more. And when the juvenile delinquents had sugar removed from their diet and replaced with fruits and vegges, they violence reduced and they began falling into the range of normal.

I used to keep it in my cube at work, and refer to it to offer suggestions to handling ailments. One time a guy at work cancelled an appointment because of a migraine. So when he made it in a few days later, we went through the book to see the cause an found some foods he had eaten a day or so before the migraine. He came to me 9 months later and said he had not had a migraine since.

This book provides a great model for understanding how diet can be used to help balance us from a physical, mental and emotional perspective.

Thanks Dr. Colbin!

I just borrowed this book from a friend, and Colbin covers everything--there were several pages I xeroxed before returning it. It doesn't propose any specific philosophy, rather it evaluates the effects of different foods on the body. She incorporates Chinese and ayurvedic philosophy also and details macrobiotics. I am vegan, and I especially recommend it for vegetarians since it explains how to balance your diet, making sure you get enough calcium and the essential B12. Colbin emphasizes all-natural foods and listening to your body. I'm gonna buy a copy when I get back to the states. Enjoy!

This remains one of my favorite books on eating for health. Annemarie offers sensible, and do-able guidelines, not rules, and a lot of information to mull over.
I go back to this book over, and over again.
I also recommend her cookbooks. Healthy, delicious, easy to make dishes, with
simple ingredients.

I couldn`t imagine a book on the subject of food combining being more comprehensive and at the same time a quick, easy read! I love this little book-my whole family has read it and is now doing food combining! I`ve lost a few pounds although that was not my mail motivation; I totally recommend this to anyone interested in the subject!! M Murphy

Now that I have read this book I know how to properly order a cheeseburger so that I don't upset the balance of my stomache. I feel confident in knowing what I can eat, with what and when. This was alot easier to understand than any of the Suzanne Sommers books. The book wasn't filled with recipes for the rich and famous.I enjoyed this book and will pass it along to other friends who are still eating those Cheeseburgers loaded with everything and supersized fries.

This book is very helpful in redefining the Food Combining rules that Marilu Henner talks about in her books. After reading all of Henner's books, I still had some additional questions about how to properly food combine. This book was a tremendous help. Plus, it is short, sweet, and to the point. Excellent book.

Every book I have ever bought that refered to food combining contained hundreds of pages of small print. Not very inviting and difficult to read and understand. This book clarifies and explains the simple rationals and concepts. I'm trying to give this way of eating a good try, but I do not want to pull out a book that looks like War and Peace every time I eat something. This is so easy to refer to and transport around with me, until I know what I am doing.

Beer is a Starch

Who knew beer was a starch? Not me! Like many of the other reviewers, I came into food combining through the Marilu Henner, Total Health Makeover plan. Marilu's books are great but they don't provide enough detail about classifying produce. For instance, I wanted to eat a sweet potato with a protein and checked Marilu's book to make sure that sweet potatoes were veggies. Sweet potatoes? Not listed. I originally ordered Kathryn Marsden's book to fill in the gaps for the missing food items but wound up learning more than just how to classify produce. In addition to including and classifying every fruit or veggie known to man, it's also small enough that I can carry it in my purse for quick reference in restaurants. Now, I know not to drink beer with fish.

...and in case you're wondering, sweet potatoes are starches!
