As hard as his death was for me personally, I understood after reading this book that the experience was at the time -- and would be in the future -- far harder for them. It let me shift focus away from myself and to something far more important -- helping guide their little hearts and minds into stable, secure and productive adulthoods.

A Wonderful Book! A Must Read!!!Review Date: 2004-01-16
Her book, which I picked up and read simply out of curiosity -- is equally wonderful. It contains a delightful mix of warmth, humor, sadness and inspiration, and it's all just plain good reading. It's like a box of chocolates that you don't want to eat up all at once, but to linger over and enjoy.
This book isn't simply an autobiography about Delilah's life, but rather, it contains sketches of it along with stories from some of her friends and readers. You'll probably enjoy this book even if you've never heard her speak on the radio -- and you'll love it if you have. She shows just as much warmth and love in her writing as she does on her radio show. I recommend this book for anybody who loves good inspirational reading!

Love this book, love someone, todayReview Date: 2003-04-30
Recently, in driving to and from Indianapolis with my wife we again pulled in a station playing Delilah. My wife has become hooked on it and has found a station in Milwaukee (Light 97.3) that plays Delilah every evening.
One day, while in the local bookstore that also sells used books, I came across this volume. I thought my wife would like it so I paid the few dollars they were asking for it and surprised her with this gift. She has enjoyed it.
Eventually I decided to read it. And it is a very interesting book.
The layout of chapters follows Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (if you don't know this particular passage, think The Byrds and their classic "Turn, Turn, Turn." Delilah was also kind enough to include the passage at the front of her book). She divides the chapters up for each "time," beginning with "A Time to be Born." The book is subtitled "Encouragement and Inspiration for the Times of Our Lives."
But the book isn't autobiographical as it is an extension of her show. You won't get a chronology of her life her. In "A Time to be Born" she talks about her "Kissy Baby" she had as a child and her prayer that the doll become real. She then seques into giving birth to her own children and the different reactions she had to each conception and birth (my contention in being pro-life is that a woman who has had more than one child has different memories of each pregnancy and each child was different in the womb. If the "fetus" were just an extension of the mother's body, I don't believe these differences would exist).
She follows that with "A Time to Die," just as Ecclesiastes does. It might seem strange in its order, but this book pulls it off wonderfully. The mourning of the loss of life stands in stark contrast to the giving of birth.
Not every "time" in Ecclesiastes is used. Delilah does not include "A time to kill, and a time to heal," even though this could be personal growth. "A time for war and a time of peace" might not be politically correct, but is very relevant today. There are others not used-maybe Delilah will bless us with a follow-up volume?
Not to say that she can't. Delilah has used listener stories in her book as a connection between her, her audience, and her readers. She also concludes each chapter with an original poem to display her skills as a poetess. And in the last few months in this year 2003 many military families have called Delilah's show and shared their stories and hopes and fears. So, Delilah, can we see a completion of Ecclesiastes sometime soon?
I would recommend this book for Mothers' Day or as a gift for someone special. My wife has read it several times now.
WONDERFUL, AWESOMEReview Date: 2006-12-04
I admire Delilah, as a woman who believes in and loves God, as her example as a mother, and as what she appears to be as a person.
Delilah hasn't always had it easy, but yet she appears to be a dynamic person. This book is wonderful. If you are going through or have gone through a rough time, either physically or emotionally or both, this book will encourage and inspire you. And if everything is going good for you, this book is also for you. This book is awesome and wonderful.

Thirty Near-Death Experiences Makes Good ReadingReview Date: 1999-11-12
Syracuse Herald American, November 7, 1999...
....Young Bill Goss plunged his head into a sink full of water, hoping to get the wethead look of Elvis Presley. His head wedged between two facets as the water poured in. Bill, just 9 years old then, thought for sure he was going to drown.
"My screams dissipated into gurgling noises, since my face was immersed in the water," he recalls. "My head was too big and the basin too small. There was simply no way I could get my hands around my face to to unplug the lifesaving stopper and drain the water. That's when I knew I was going to die."
Goss survived by ripping out two hunks of scalp, denting the facet handles. It was the first of 30 near-death experiences that he says he survived over the next three decades. From mine collapses to plane wrecks, his dances with the grim reaper are recounted in his book, "The Luckiest Unlucky Man Alive."
TAKING ON CANCER. The most threatening of the retired Navy pilot's experiences began five years ago with a small pink cyst-like bump behind his ear. Navy and civilian doctors told him to get his life in order because the cyst was a rare form of malignant melanoma, a quick killer. In a desperate attempt to stay alive, Goss found a doctor who removed his left ear and 200 lymph nodes.
The stitches along the side of his head and down his neck made the dashing naval officer look like he had been put together with spare parts. Reconstructive surgery helped him look normal again, but for a while he had to glue on his silicon ear with rubber cement.
Greg O'Neil, a Cinncinnati businessman and lifelong friend of Goss who was with him on several misadventures, thought the cancer would kill Goss.
"I was devastated. I thought this was it for Bill," said O'Neil, who grew up with Goss in the Millburn, N.J. area.
Goss, 44, has been cancer-free for five years now. "I lucked out," he said. "I learned from those dark days that behind every challenge are great opportunities."
O'Neil doesn't see Goss as being unlucky.
He was always able to pull something positive out of bad circumstances," O'Neil said. "Bill Goss is like 'Forrest Gump' meets 'Terminator II."
BRUSHES WITH DISASTER. Few people, however, would wish to be quite as "lucky" as Goss.
While attending University of Arizon in 1974, he worked weekends at a nearby copper mine. He was rigging blasting caps 5,000 feet underground to clear a chute along a 40 foot hole when he heard the sound of splitting granite. When the dust cleared, he was dangling over the chasm by his safety belt.
In 1985, Goss was in Spain as a Navy pilot of a P-3 Orion, an aircraft used for tracking soviet submarines and drug runners. He was doing test landings when a crew member inadvertently shut down one of the planes four engines.
"Suddenly the aircraft snapped to the left more violently than before," he wrote in his autobiography. "It departed the left side of the runway, twisting off the landing gear and causing the number 3 propeller to touch the ground. That instantly tore the entire 4600 shaft horsepower engine propeller assembly off the aircraft. I remember seeing it out the corner of my eye as it flew over the right wing."
Damage amounted to $3.5 million. No one was injured.
In 1991, Goss stopped his car on Interstate 295 in Jacksonville to remove a box of garbage from the roadway. As he stood in the median, he was struck by a car going about 50 mph. The police report stated he flew 45 feet through the air and he had an out-of-body experience, but he escaped without serious injury.
"It felt great to be dead, still able to think but no longer constrained to my physical being," Goss wrote. "I felt my mind and spirit advance out beyond our stars. In the big picture; I mean the really big picture, time, space, distance, structure, weight, dimension -- these things have no meaning -- only human spirit does."
His cancer forced Goss to retire from the Navy. Now he spends much of his time writing and giving inspirational and motivational talks, billing himself as a "totally unique speaker" on his website: www.luckiestman.com
Bill Goss lives on historic Fleming Island, in Orange Park, southwest of Jacksonville, Florida, with his wife Peggy and their 12-year-old twins, Brian and Christie. He said the kids were his inspiration for writing the book.
"I wanted to leave something behind -- something for my kids to remember me by just in case I didn't make it -- something to let them know who their dad was," he said.
"Bill has been knocked down, but never out, and he would always rise again. The guy I married has nine lives," Peggy said. "My problem was I didn't know what number he was on."

The Truth Review Date: 2005-09-23
As someone who has read innumerable 'secret of success ' books , I hold very high regard for this book because I have had
practical demonstrations of its truths.
The one point that the master does not dwell upon is while visualizing the desired situation , one has to pour deep feelings
of joy and gratitude to 'Infinite Intelligence' , 'Intelligent substance ' or God according to your predisposition.
If the appropriate visual blends with your thoughts and feelings and if you can sustain the mental image along with the
thoughts and feelings about the desired manifestation you will see that what was once in your consciousness is now in your
surroundings ( 'As it is within , so it is without ').
I want to quote Swami Vivekananda here -- " Imagination properly employed is our greatest friend ; it goes beyond reason and
is the only light that takes us everywhere ".
It is natural to be skeptical about these topics, but all a person needs is one specific ( be very specific ) manifestation.
I also suggest you to read " The Way Out " by Anonymous , " Door of Everything " by Ruby Nelson , " It Works " by RHJ. Proper
study of these books will help you gain deeper understanding and help you manifest your own reality.
Truth is way stranger than fiction. Have patience and strong will to manifest.
You can create your own miracles.
Good luck.

There are many tools in this book, and they are so easy to put into practise, you don't have to be clever! You just have to use them! How does it get even better than this?
I have recommended this book to many of my friends in New Zealand, and they are so grateful. "Wow, this book is making such a difference. I never knew before, that you could ask for money" and things like that. If you would like to change your perspective on money, and also, many other things in your life - you may like to consider the possiblity of reading this book for yourself. I would give it a 1000 star rating if there was such a thing.

Insightful, Practical, and SensitiveReview Date: 2008-08-24
The book itself has enjoyed popularity since its publication in 1978, and for good reason. Instead of merely bombarding the reader with a series of boring writing prompts, Rainer frees the diarist to begin writing immediately whatever he feels needs writing at this point in his life. Her simple advice for a productive initial writing session: "Write fast, write everything, include everything, write from your feelings, write from your body, accept whatever comes."
The next part of the book is devoted to specific diary devices. These include four basic devices: cathartic writing (basically what everyone thinks of when keeping a journal: spilling your guts onto the page), free-intuitive writing (stream of consciousness), descriptive writing (describing the situations, people, places, circumstances of your life), and reflection (thinking maturely about your life). Then comes a chapter with seven "specia" devices. These includes more specialized approaches such as dialogues, lists, the unsent letter, etc.
In the remaining chapters, Rainer offers her own insight into specific problems such as anger, fear, loneliness, depression, apathy, and jealousy. I have found this an invaluable reference. Rainer has a nuanced and informed understanding of psychology and quotes exceprts from her students' journals as well as famous diaries from the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Anais Nin (who appears frequently throughout the book - she was friends with the author), and others. I have never read the book straight through from cover to cover. Instead, I read up through the chapters outlining the diary devices, and started my journal from there. I then used the rest of the book as a reference whenever I needed.
One chapter that delves into a topic that no other book on the subject dares to touch in much detail is that on "Eroticism." Initially, I avoided this chapter because I never felt I had any need for it. I had no inclination to record lurid, pornographic entries for posterity. One night, however, after a rather chancy encounter with an ex-girlfriend, I found myself dealing with some confounding emotions. It turns out, Rainer's chapter on reclaiming your sexuality was just the guidance I needed to explore these feelings in a journal. One refreshingly astute observation Rainer makes is that modern society dehumanizes sexuality and estranges it from our larger personality. Many of us are carrying around a sexual vocabulary that isn't ours and doesn't reflect how we really feel towards our bodies and what we find erotic. Rainer encourages the diarist to create his own vocabulary and thus facilitate a reconnection with one's erotic life that can be extremely informative.
Another chapter on "The Diary as a Therapeutic Device" is well-researched and Rainer has a broad understanding of human psychology ranging from Gestalt therapy to modern cognitive therapies. It offers a seamless bridge from any supplemental therapies that you may be participating in. There are also references to Ira Progoff's "Intensive Journaling" throughout as well. While Rainer pulls some suggestions from Progoff's approach, her's is thankfully not as regimented and compartmentalized.
This new revised edition preserves most of the material from the first edition, with a few stray updates here and there - in particular references to computers and the advent of the internet. One conspicuous detail I noticed, however, is that this edition seems to be more inclusive towards men. The original edition was noticeably geared toward an audience of women in the choice of pronouns, excerpts, and assides. This has been remedied in the newer edition, with a more equitable distribution of both male and female diarists. While I was never horribly bothered by this aspect of the original edition, I did find it a judicious revision.
This is an excellent resource and has proven invaluable to me over the years. While many other books on journaling have appeared since, I've found this consistently the most complete and accomodating to different personality types and issues.

What Will You Be When You Grow Up?Review Date: 2004-05-04
In this excellent work you will learn about Motivated Abilities, and why you should work to your strengths more than always trying to improve your weaknesses. You will understand why you are particularly good at some activities, and perhaps a bit less so at others.
After you have read the book, help with understanding your Motivated Abilities is available from Marlys' company, Marlys Hanson and Associates. While the book teaches the method of doing this analysis oneself, the experience of Marlys and her team will help you learn even more about yourself for a modest additional cost.
I wish I had found Marlys sooner, but am thrilled that I found her at all.
