I don't want to rewrite this article. I thought it was overpriced for very little information. The book reviewed was "Sex is Not a Natural Act" 2nd edition by Leonore Tiefer. Tiefer stressed that sex was a social act and not biological. I guess I'll have to look up Tiefer's book.

No tips on how to avoid embarrasing skid marks!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-22
Hard to believe this book on grooming contains no tips on how young men can avoid embarassing skid marks. Nothing turns a woman off faster than seeing those brown marks on a man's underwear just before getting it on! The problem? It is impossible to clean your ass with just paper. Paper leaves a residue that allows bacteria or fungus to flourish. This can result in undesired itching, odor and the possibility of inflammation or infection. And skid marks! No matter how much shampoo, hair cream, deodorant, toothpaste, after shave, manicure a man uses, the only way to avoid this most embarrasing and unhygienic of scourges is to wash one's ass after toilet use with a bidet.

Good idea but little substance
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.

A book on the effects of a wife's menopause on her husband from a man's point of view is a great idea given that virtually everything written about menopause is from a woman's point of view. Men need guidance that does not attempt to be politically correct, touchy-feely and overly patronizing to the woman. Many of the books for women on menopause provide the support women need without giving a thought to those who live with her and also need support. A man's book on menopause needs to describe the physical, emotional and mental effects menopause has on a woman and how that looks to the husband so he can recognize and deal with how menopause will affect him. Then, the man needs guidance on how to help his wife and how he can survive her ups and downs by having a realistic understanding. The writer of this book tells us that menopause probably ended his last marriage and is having an effect on his current, unmarried but live-in relationship. In short, his credentials are suspect. He uses profanity that is unnecessary and does not provide the guidance that is necessary. I would not buy the book again.

Don't waste your time or money

The bulk of this book contains facts about the physical process of menopause that can easily be found elsewhere. The advice to men dealing with a menopausal spouse is miniscule and simplistic. If you're looking for an enlightening book for your husband this is not it.

Biased and Condescending
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-22
When focused on the topic of prostate cancer, Dr. Taguchi is a urologist/surgeon and as such, overtly biased in favor of surgery. He goes so far as to say "...The moment I have removed the prostate gland, in a three hour operation, the cancer is gone."

This godlike assertion is simply not accurate. As my own urologist explained it, in order to spare the nerves, the surgeon must leave some prostate tissue behind. There is always a chance that some microscopic foci of cancer cells could be left in that tissue. The surgeon should forthrightly present the mathematical percentages, rather than an ironclad guarantee.

In another passage, regarding modes of radiation treatment, Taguchi writes, "...about half of all prostate cancer patients who are given radiotherapy are permanently cured by it..."

Evidently Taguchi has overlooked published studies that show radiotherapy may be curative in up to 80%-90% of patients.

The following quote comes from a press release for "The Prostate: Everything You Need to Know": "[We] place a burden on the patient population when we ask them to participate in their choice of treatment... A specialist has spent four years in undergraduate university studies, four years in medical school, and five years in specialty training. Does it make sense for patients to make critical decisions for themselves after a five-minute lecture and an evening's exposure on the Internet?" -- Yosh Taguchi, M.D.

Taking Dr. Taguchi's quote as fairly representing himself as a professional, his attitude seems antiquated and condescending. More disturbing is that, on the one hand, Taguchi presents himself as an uninpeachable authority on prostate cancer, while on the other hand, his book reflects an utter disregard for a fair presentation of the full treatment-choice spectrum (not to mention a lack of correct and/or up-to-date information).

As a PCa patient, I enthusiastically took on the "burden" of participating in my choice of treatment (brachytherapy). It is my body and my life; after a long journey of research, interviews with other patients and numerous consultations with physicians, the treatment I finally chose was ultimately my decision alone to make.

It falls upon us, the patients (and those close to us), to set straight such biased, misinformed members of the medical community.

This book is one of the worst examples of an apparently authoritative work I have ever heard of. It has numerous factual errors and has a significant bias toward surgery which may mislead patients into a treatment modality that may be inappropriate for them. The statistics on cure rates for radiology and surgery are roughly the same, a fact which this author, despite his pose as a knowledgeable surgeon, chooses to ignore. Save your money and read an authoritative work on ALL the options for treatment of prostate cancer at:

http://www.phoenix5.org/Basics/DPprimer0918.html

Also, while you are at the Phoenix5 website, page around to obtain the best information on the Net regarding impotence and sexual issues in regard to prostate cancer. There are also alot of first person stories and essays, plus resources such as an interactive glossary and reliable information regarding treatment options for impotence.

A condescending mockery of pregnancy
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-19
I only have one suggestion to anyone regarding this book: DON'T BUY IT!!!! It is obvious that this author does not truly understand what happens biologically during a pregnancy, and everything is "blamed" on hormones. It is condescending to men and women alike, despite the fact that the Mission Statement states: "The mission of the "59" series is to serve the reader by publishing/writing practical information that builds, encourages, instructs, develops and cultivates family and personal lifestyle". I can't believe the author's wife actually assisted in this project. Don't waste your time, energy or money on this "book".

I bought this book and was amazed at the information because it was useless. This man is so full of himself that I couldn't read what he had to say about diabetes. The worse news is I even considered him as a doctor for my husband. I thank the Lord that I didn't follow through with that idea! I had to give him a star because the page wouldn't leave at all, if I hadn't.

I requested a sample of this Kindle edition this evening as I was skeptical of the formatting and content of the book having had issues with similar Kindle books before. The sample never arrived. Upon returning to the book's page on Amazon the Sample Button was no longer there when I tried to request the sample again. So I took a chance and purchased the full edition. The full edition turned out to be a Kindle book with only 170 locations (the equivalent to about 10 printed pages or 17 screens on font size 1) of basic ideas we have all heard before (drink water, follow the U.S food guidelines pyramid, etc.). I deleted the book and requested a reversal of the charges via Kindle support.

i didn't liked that book, because i don't like the author : he's stupid and his way of moderate in Hairsite is oh so stupid you can't even imagine. To be perfectly honest : do a search on internet and you'll find as much as in this book with no money spend.

Stupid persons make stupid books because they are enough stupid to think people are as stupid as they are. Stupid idea, really.
