I really enjoyed the book. As I have had the pleasure of meeting Marvin in person, I was excited to read the book. It was very entertaining and REAL! I picked it up on the airplane and did not put it down until the plane landed. I am a frequent guest appearing on QVC and Marvin's details about the "greenroom" were honest and quite revealing. Anyone who watches QVC or any shopping network will find the book to be quite fun and motivating. Pick it up!

When I first read the book, my thoughts were, how in the world could one person be so diversified! The book had a great deal of good information on how one can overcome being "labeled" in our society and how you can indeed turn you life around. He had good inspirational and motivating stories of weight problems and how he overcame the odds to beat them. I very much enjoyed his humor and down to earth approach. The book was right on target on the issues facing overweight people. When I started to read it...I had a hard time putting it down...well worth the read!

A life-changing book for all ages.

I could really relate to this book. I grew up in a home with two perfectionists and as a result, suffered low self-esteem. Mr. Segel also did that, but totally turned his life around. I, too, tried every diet that came down the pike and always put the weight back on and more. This product works now, and can work for you for the rest of your life. The book is a must-read for anyone searching to take control of their weight and/or their life. Let Mr. Marvin Segel take you there.

I was one of the first people in line when Viagra, the acclaimed wonder drug, first came out. Unfortunately, my problems could not be overcome by a mere blue pill. The wonderful techniques employed by this book, including the numerous nonpharmaceutical organic natural remedies were a great help to me. The writing was brilliant, and recipes were as easy as one, two, three.

A book that teaches the average man about the perils of Viagra and how these can be avoided by using only natural methods. The book explains why Viagra is dangerous to some people and offers a natural and clean alternative for a healthy erection and sex life. A good book but with gaps in structure, i found out that "Volume II - Natural Penis Enlargement: New methods of avoiding and curing impotence, premature ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction safely and inexpensively. ... Book on CD-Rom for PC & Mac Computers" by Platinum Millennium has much more information about sexual disorders and is structured with greater detail than this one

This is not the first book on this topic. Dr.Philip Shore, also a medical doctor was a co-author of Why Men Die Before Women and How to Prevent It in 2006 that dealt with this very issue.Dr Legatto and Dr. Shore have raised an important issue. Both books are very informative and give good advice on improving both the quality and longevity of mens' lives. Both books focus on the biological and cultural differences between men and women. However, Dr Legatto seems to put more emphasis on the medical, while Dr. Shore's book does a stronger job at integrating the emotional, with the psychological and physical. The original exercises designed by a lay man, Mr Scaglione are explained and validated by Dr Shore. And they do work...I do them daily... and feel great and certainly less stressed. Buy both- something to be gained from each of them.

I just saw Dr. Legato on the Today show this morning-- and it confirmed what I have been reading in this book (bought a couple of weeks ago) that this is a must read for everyone. Men are biologically different from women and this book explains why, and better yet, what we can do to not only live longer but to improve the quality of our health.

I'm so glad that authors are tackling the issue of men's health and well-being. Our culture somehow puts men on a faster track towards death than women because of the neglect that they give to their mind and body. A couple of years ago I read Why Men Die Before Women and How to Prevent Itby an acting teacher and doctor and it changed my life. I still do the exercises faithfully from that book. We all know alot of it but somethimes we have to be hit over the head to do something about it. Both of these books should be read by both men and their spouses.

I was impressed by how much information the authors fit into this one book: it's like a guide to a woman's body. One thing I especially liked about it was how well-organized it is: it has clearly-marked sections so you can flip to what you want to read easily. Full of helpful, simple diagrams. I thought I knew everything there was to know about my body until I read this book. Also does a good job correcting some of the common myths about everything from menstruation to rape. Has especially good information on contraceptives, how to keep yourself safe from assault, and a basic overview of every part of the body (from your eyes to your skin). Unlike some women's health books, this one covers more than the typical topics of menopause and menstruation.

My only disappointments were that it barely covered same-sex love between women (barely two pages), and I would have liked more information on self-stimulation. Still, a great resource.

this guide has been available for years and is an excellent, well done, treatise. i have used it for my wife and daughters and close friends with complete confidence that no value is abridged; social, religious, etc.

it should be on every parent's shopping list for any child entering puberty. certainly, a must for any adult!

obviously, it has limitations on technical stuff, but the info is useful and if used it will help any reader.

The indepth coverage from puberty thru menapause was phemomental. It had chapters for every aspect of the female form including special chapters on sexuality, male/female and female/female relationships. It was and still is a must have. I would like to give all my daughters and nieces a copy, so this wonderous work could be enjoyed

My Husband purchased this book along with a Denene Millner book for me for Christmas. I was a little apprehensive to read it since I've never heard of it, but what a pleasant surprise. This book is an excellent read. I agree with a previous poster- ALL MEN AND WOMEN should read this book. I purchased several copies to give to some of my family members as late Christmas gifts!! This book covers everything under the sun, but what I liked most is the fact that the author focuses on how our relationships impact the black community as a whole. An easy 5 stars!

Changing the face of Black Relationships...

Review Date: 2007-12-13
Refreshing. In his debut book "You, Me and We...," author André G. Williams valiantly and victoriously explores the challenges black men and women face on their quest to build happy, healthy and long lasting relationships. With chapters steeped in personal conviction and reflection, Mr. Williams challenges his readers to take a genuinely introspective view of self before seeking to embark on their journey of love. The relatable tone and use of applicable anecdotes all serve as an excellent stage for André to present many pertinent issues such as being responsible, the need for self-esteem, and even the importance of family and faith in the context of black relationships. Most noted, the chapter befittingly entitled "Got God?" charts his personal exploration of the role of faith in his own life without the overindulgent religious banter that is often used as a tool of reprimand in many books geared towards black readership.

"You, Me and We..." is fresh and deliciously written. Using an intricate balance of candor, humor, and a non-biased appeal to both male and female roles in relationships, Williams has carefully managed to avoid the common clichés and pitfalls of many seasoned black writers who seem to harp on the "no-good" nature of the black man or the stereotypical attitude and disrespect of the black woman. André G. Williams presents a new perspective and voice in a market where there are so few books that truly address the realities that are faced in the black dating/marriage community. This book is a "must read" for everyone, whether young, old, married, or single! Without hesitation, this one gets all five well-deserved stars!

Getting Down To The Heart Of It

Review Date: 2007-11-15
Andre Williams has had many epiphanies in his life. After witnessing the effects of lust, pride, and unchecked materialism on personal relationships, he penned You, Me, And We as a panacea for the aforementioned ills - and he comes rather close to delivering.

Williams's tome reads as a "How To" guide for better relations between men and women from all walks of life. With the same methodical approach that one would take in repairing a busted car or dishwasher, Williams breaks down the key elements that need to be addressed if relationships are to function properly. He meticulously dissects such issues as self-esteem, unrealistic expectations, and personal responsibility. He also frames his viewpoints within the greater overall context of seeing a relationship as a greater whole than the simple sum of its individual parts. Helping to illustrate his points are colorful anecdotes and apropos analogies serving to broaden his writing's appeal for a diverse audience of readers.

One particular element that Williams places special focus on is that of faith. He comments frequently on the essential role of spirituality in relationships, and he emphasizes the need for everyone, male and female, to place a high priority on maintaining a close personal relationship with God. At times, Williams comes dangerously close to proselytizing for the Christian faith, almost downplaying (even if by their mere omission) the significance of other beliefs and their various tenets and teachings. Only by reaching mostly generalized conclusions is he able to avoid the appearance of a biased approach.

Given his reliance on emphasizing the spiritual, though, one would have expected to see Williams cite specific biblical passages to augment his points. The current market certainly has no shortage of relationship "experts," and having a sound scriptural basis for any claim or argument presented does much to differentiate the pack.

Still, You, Me, And We shines for its sincerity. Having served personal witness to many a heartbreaking experience in his young life, Williams is truly concerned with helping others avoid similar hard times of their own. As such, his revelations will surely connect with the multitudes seeking solid direction and definitive answers.

an important issue number-crunched
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-29
Often when a gay issue appears in the news, ideas come out that every gay person is doing it. During the 1990s, there were misconceptions that every gay person wanted to enter the U.S. military. In this decade, many think that every gay person wants to get married, though for decades, many lesbian and gay activists have condemned marriage as an institution. Keith Boykin, a black gay leader, has done a wonderful job in criticizing the hysteria about the "down-low" phenomena. He points to the fact that there could be about seven definitions of that term, yet no one has worked to separate the issues at stake. Here, researchers explore the issue of "barebacking." They crunch numbers to ask who does it, how widespread is it, what's the motivation for it, how can it be curbed, etc.

Many anthologies are catch-as-catch-can: if someone writes a paper even remotely related to an issue, it ends up getting published. This book, thankfully, was the opposite. The researchers peel the onion of this issue. I definitely think someone must have overseen this and told the authors, "Okay, you study aspect X and I'll study aspect Y and our colleague over there will study aspect Z." This provided for a very coherent and thoughtful compilation.

The cover shows an interracial couple, a black man and a white man, in an affectionate embrace. This may be a considerate move by the contributors to attract both men of color and white men to read this book. Gay, interracial couples may love seeing this portrayal. However, nowhere in these studies do the contributors posit that the barebacking phenomenon is especially practiced interracially. There is a chapter focused on Black and Latino men and it never implies that they consider the race of their partners when choosing to partake in this act. Thus, the cover may be misleading, even if it was chosen for altruistic reasons.

I love that the researchers are non-judgmental. There is discussion of anonymous sex, drug use, promiscuity, and other stigmatized acts that the writers never attack. However, sometimes I felt that the book implied "It's okay to bareback if it's with your primary partner." Guess what? Primary partners can catch HIV. Individuals who kick it with other men beside their primary partner can catch HIV. Thus, this is a strategy that should have been pointed to as faulty or dangerous. This book is a bit New York City-focused, but this is logical given that the city is an epicenter of American AIDS cases.

Warning: this book is all about numbers-crunching! Those who are afraid of chi squares, regression analyses, assessing standards of deviation, and all that jazz from college-level statistics classes may be afraid of this book. Still, there are chapters that have "qualitative" discussions that anyone can understand. If a numbers-hater skips the methods sections and sticks to the introduction and discussion sections, they may understand what is being said. Further, if you can get beyond the numbers, the chapters actually move very quickly. Remember, these researchers are trying to see if this phenomenon is widespread and dangerous.

I am thankful that researchers take gay men's lives seriously and want to study them. This book may actually help homophobic statisticians to overcome their prejudices.

It's nice to find a little book that is simply pleasant to read...a little book that makes you smile and giggle...a little book that does not attempt to be literary or snooty or philosophical or didactic or dogmatic. This is a small, harmless joy. We need more books like this! Take a break from the horrors of the World and sink yourself into a little book like this once in a while. It'll do you good, and it will take a lot of pressure off the Universe and make it expand at a slightly loping pace. --Jim Reed, author, DAD'S TWEED COAT: SMALL WISDOMS HIDDEN COMFORTS, UNEXPECTED JOYS jimreedbooks.com

Andrea King Collier and Willarda V. Edwards, MD have written a book that can benefit every single woman who cares about the men in her life. The book may be entitled The Black Woman's Guide to Black Men's Health, yet, it is "every man's" book and guide.

Chock full of health information, I was interested in learning about my own health as well as my husband's. I found this book to be an ideal source of information.

The beginning chapters cover simple basic facts that can aid in determining what can affect a Black man's health. You can learn how to detect when something is happening to the men in your life and assist in helping before the situation gets out of hand. The authors advise that we as women obtain all information possible in terms of health care. I learned that communication is everything when it comes to finding out exactly how our men feel. Collier and Edwards talk about how to target the right doctor as well as the right insurance coverage.

The later chapters discuss the major issues affecting the health of our men. The authors discuss the effects of cancer, obesity, HIV/AIDS and other major illnesses. Because Type 1 Diabetes is an illness that affects my own family, I was very interested in the information. The authors explain what diabetes is, the system, the types and the treatment.

This is a book that crosses every creed, color and cultural line. But, this book is desperately needed in the Black community because we are so affected by lack of understanding regarding health care issues. These authors have taken a bold and much-needed stand.

Armchair Interviews says: Collier and Edwards have written a guide to help women guide their men to better health and in effect, a longer and more fulfilling life.

Excellent handbook.

I thought this book was very well written and easy to understand. The recommendations are attainable and free! It demonstrates that nothing more than love and communication are needed to support your loved one in maintaining, or obtaining the necessary medical attention for, a healthy life. This book will help not only black men and their families, but men and families of all ethnicities. I know the cover and pages of my book will become bent and torn as I use it over and over as a personal resource for health issues. Thank you, Andrea and Willarda.

A true classic

Review Date: 2007-12-09
As we face a globalised world of imperialist chaos this book reminds us that Marx's theory of alienation is the only one which can help people make sense of what is going on. Marx understood completely and dialectically that humanity is both a part of nature and also the historically unfolding self creativity of nature. But Marx was able to brilliantly distinguish between what is a characteristic of humanity as a productive species and what is specific to capitalism as a particular form of production. All those who seek to reduce capitalism to a generalised "production" and capital to "tools" etc. are apologists for capitalism who want to convince us that capitalism is only "human nature". Meszaros illuminates the difference between these "primary" and "second order" mediations of human history. Marx had no time for vapid psychobabble, of course, but he had a vision of non-alienated humanity drawn from classical notions of "homo universale" - the many sided, socially integrated and freely self determining individual free from bondage to alienating entities like state, class and race and their associated legacies of war and destruction. Marx, of course, recognised before anyone else the globalising attributes of capitalism - "the prices of its commodities are the heavy artillery with which it batters down all Chinese walls" - and it can truly be stated that only now, with the disappearance of Stalinism and the global dominance of capitalism, does Marx's critique of capitalism attain its true validity and truth.

Honest, orthodox, hence unvisionary

Review Date: 2004-03-07
The subject of the book is fundamental if we want to understand why the « communist » experiment failed and was doomed to fail. The author is orthodox and intelligent enough to be faithful to Marx but he is also fundamentalistic enough not to see the mistake of the orthodox reading of Marx, of Marx himself. Marx wrote before the modern development of advanced anthropology. So he neglects the fact that man, as a species, was made possible in nature due to two great genetic and physical mutations. Brain and larynx, first, that made language, verbal communication, conservation through memory, transmission through education possible. From here rise the possibility to think with concepts and the necessity/possibility to understand in order to plan life and the satisfaction of human needs, hence to represent man's position in nature : from hence come religions, arts, philosophy, science and technology. Man is a speaking therefore representing being. Brain and hand, second, that made the production of tools, the emergence of means of production possible. This enabled the species to get on its way to controling and even changing nature, to producing more than needed, hence producing surplus value that could become accumulated into capital. The road to industrial development started there with the very first tool ever invented and transmitted in its technology. So what the book attributes to capitalism should be attributed to the emergence of the human species as a « producing species ». But Marx was also from a time before the discovery of the human psyche. So he is lost in considerations on good and evil, ethics, aesthetics and other questions of the type because he cannot know the human psyche is both dark and clear, eros and thanatos, love for others (personal and social survival) and death instinct (antisocial and jingoistic survival). But strangely enough the author of this book does not envisage the present phase of human development : the informational revolution, universal communication, globalization, the generalization of music, films, TV and even arts everywhere in society and at any time, the individual revolution of liberated - and yet to be controled, but how ? - impulses, desires, passions, etc... Istvan Meszaros probably wrote too early (1970) and too fast (just after 1968). But if we read it as a standard marxist approach of 1970, we know why the « communist experiment » failed : it negated the real historical development of humanity by rejecting the representative power of man and the explosive dimension of the liberation of individuals and individual initiative.

This is an excellent book on how to gain respect by recognizing and cultivating its traits. Descriptions and examples of the traits (i.e. honesty, humor, etc) are explained. It would have been an even greater book if it taught how to handle people who just won't respect you no matter what.

Overall, it was a good book on the subject.
