I got this book to try to facilitate more communication with my fiance. He really liked the questions in the book and I did too. We just skipped over ones that didn't apply to him or to us and kept going! This book is good for EVERYONE though, I sat with my mom for a few hours reading through some of the questions and we had a great time! Definately worth getting!

Everything He Hasn't Told You Yet: A New Way to Get Men Talking About Stuff That Matters
My husband is the considered, quiet type who I have to literally strangle to get anything meaningful out of. It's so frustrating. But I read a starred review of Everything He Hasn't Told You Yet in the American Library Journal. What caught my interest was that it claimed to be a series of icebreakers to help women get their men to reveal what made them tick. Well, that was good enough for me. It actually works! I'm getting conversation. And it's so easy. The scenario in the book that especially worked was Mean to Me. Hubby unearthed all sorts of things about himself. Like, I didn't know he really hated his birthday. And now I know why. The American Library Journal also said: 'Everything He Hasn't Told You Yet is clever, fun, hard to put down, and highly recommended.' Ditto from me.

This book is truly original and astonishingly effective. I've been in a loving, secure relationship now for three years but we just didn't seem to have much to say to each other any more. In other words, the magic seemed to have gone and it didn't feel like we were going anywhere. Not any more! Right from the very first scenario, this book lived up to its promise and had him telling me all kinds of things he hadn't thought to tell me before. It brought up lots of stuff that we'd never thought to discuss and it made for lots of laughter and a few tears too. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to reinvigorate a relationship.

I love this book. It is the best book on how to fish in the dating pond. I read it. Used the techniques and had three dates in four days. His methods are sound and yes they work. Your mate will be sexy and desire you more than she did before you read this book. Love By Leo Buscaglia is also excellent.

Decent General Dated Material

Although much of the material in this book hasn't changed since the book was written, many of it has. The reader must skillfully distinguish what was good advice for the '80s and what will not work today. The general overview on sexual techniques is well-written and applicable but does not go into as much detail to actually succeed in the tasks. This is another one of those books that says "all you have to do is this" without really telling you how to do it but is a good start at knowing what other topics you may need to find other books in specific subject areas about.

This book is an excellent tool for those who never had the chance to learn directly from the best source --women- about their needs and feelings. It was written in the nineties but it can be easily adapted to any time, if the reader is smart enough.

Michael Morgenstern has written a valuable book here for males whose experiences of sex have not hitherto involved women but now want them to. My only quibble is that this might be a niche market.

Walt Odets has had the courage and the insight to examine the AIDS epidemic as a crisis in mental health. Clinically sound, this is also a work filled with pathos and humanity. This book is a moving, thought-provoking, and ground-breaking exploration of the effects of a nightmare from which we have yet to awake.

No other book -- and no other therapist -- have offered such a cogent and searching examination of the psychological factors attending on HIV seroconversion. This volume has set the tone for the debate on "barebacking" and other '90s phenonomena. But it is much more: a recipe for living, with no definitive conclusions, although with plenty of food for thought for the thoughtful reader. This is necessary reading for anyone who has quarrelled with their own HIV fantasies, or with guilt, or dread. It is a book for every gay man who lives the way we live now.

A comprehensive and necessary volume

In the Shadow of the Epidemic is an essential textbook for all mental health professionals. Set in a brilliant clinical framework, it retains in a stirring way a sense of the person within each case study; there is a wealth of knowledge balanced with a profound feeling within. I found that each chapter evoked a sense of pain, grief and loss. This awareness is critical in understanding the clinical issues that must be examined when treating this community. Every mental health professional must confront these issues. This book is the essential tool to accomplish this. I am eagerly waiting for the next volume from Dr. Odets.

Overstated, if not overrated

An intriguing theory, but one of little real relevance to understanding phenomena such as the "Second Wave" of HIV. It has almost nothing to say about the wave of seroconversions among younger gay men, who are not afflicted by the guilt of surviving the AIDS deaths of friends they never had, and most of whom, far from seeing it as "inevitable," actually give precious little thought to the possibility of becoming infected before it's too late.

A nice contribution to our understanding of a small subset of new infections, but that's all it is.

This book addresses a subject that is rarely acknowledged and litle recognized--that of the grief of men after an abortion. This is a valuable book for the man looking to understand the many emotions he is feeling as he deals with his role in an abortion. AS an expert in the field of post-abortion healing, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand the wounds of abortion in men and to anyone trying to make sense of his feelings.

Finally a book addressing a very important issue.

The issue of men and abortion is a rare topic of discussion. However, there are millions of men out there that are suffering from post-abortion emotions. This book is a breakthrough in addressing this ignored situation. I myself am a father of an aborted child. This book hit home before I even finished the first chapter. The only people that can truly understand the impact that abortion has on men are the men that have been through it. This book shares the testimonials of several men and how their lives have changed. A must read for anyone who has been through this unfortunate situation.

This book is quite useful for anyone who knows very little about the modeling industry, and wants to know exactly what to expect if they decide to persue modeling, as either a hobby or a career. This book is extremely thorough, answering any questions you may have about the modeling industry. It even gives names and addresses of popular modeling agencies around the world!!! The make-up tips were somewhat useful, as well. After reading this book, I had the confidence to send my portfolio to a local agency. I have been in 5 print advertising ads and 2 television commercials here in Detroit. I am so greatful I read this book!!!

I guess everybody's an expert, but I found the hair and make-up techniques recommended in this book silly and outdated. Models today wear no make-up (maybe moisturizer or lip balm)to castings unless they're coming directly from a booking. Ditto for hair-'do's. The book could have addressed skin care and healthy lifestyle for today's young people rather than touting superficial strategies from the 'experts'. Do you want to know how to become a model or how to get a date?

A MUST-HAVE for anyone who wants to model!!!

If you're going to get into modeling, then this book is a MUST HAVE!! You will learn so much that you won't know what to do with all the information. Everything from how to get an agency to represent you to diet and exercise tips. It's not a dry read either, I COULD NOT put it down; very interesting and at times humorous too

One of the best books on fitness and training!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-23
Peter Neff was a former champion natural bodybuilder back in the 1970s and 1980s who also became editor of Natural Physique magazine, now called Natural Bodybuilding. When I met him and spoke with him, he struck me as one of the most knowledgeable trainers on the field of fitness and strength training for the drug-free trainee. He was one of the pioneers of the drug-free movement, having competed successfully against steroid users and then eventually becoming named Natural Bodybuilder of the Year for 1983-1984 after having won 22 competitions, most of them at the regional level, and most against non drug-tested contests. He is a very gifted writer and has a talent for explaining the most complex of principles in a way that could be understood by the layman or novice. This book is divided into the dangers of steroid and other performance-enhancing drug use, the differences between training naturally and training while on drugs (yes, there is a big difference!), genetic potential, the most productive exercises for each bodypart, natural training for women, nutrition, and a brief biography of his training success. This book was indeed a labor of love when it came out in 1985, meant to be the most comprehensive encyclopaedia of its kind. Compared with the books today, Peter's book still is, but, because it's over twenty years old, some new information has come out that I believe makes his book somewhat outdated (such as the specific supplements he recommends). Still, if I were to make a choice at the bookstore as to what one book to buy on weight training without performance drugs, this is the one to get. But since it's no longer available at the bookstore, I'd try to find this anyway possible, even though it may be a little pricey, because it's well worth the investment.

It's a pity this book is so hard to find now. Is is the most complete book I've seen on solid, pragmatic techniques to build muscle. It explicitly explains things that other books simply seem to assume the readers know already such as progessively increasing the weight and intensity on each set and only performing half of your workouts at maximum intensity. A newer, up to date edition would be a very welcome thing.

Poorly edited, but solid on content, this no-nonsense book takes holistic approach to the bodybuilding science. Some of the material may be a little dated, but not much: solid treatment of exercises, training programs, etc. are provided, and are generally timeless. Done in 1985; wish he'd done an encore.

[Review written Jun 2005]

This was, and apparently still is, one of the best available books on natural body building. The author covers the material expertly and well ... from both an exercise physiology standpoint (with plenty of photos, showing good form), to how to tailor 'split training' programs to your own personal schedule (while avoiding overtraining), to sports nutrition.

I used to be a bit of a gym rat and a fitness nut back in the 1980's and early 1990's, and (as of this writing) I've only recently resumed working out with weights ... to help minimize the effects of an old back injury. This book was, and to a lesser degree still is, my bible, on all matters relating to training with weights, for basic fitness and proper joint function. No drugs, no gimicks, no unhealthy and unbalanced diets - just good exercise, done in good form, in moderation, and with good nutrition and good rest to back it up.

There are a few minor areas in which the book is a little dated ... including advances in nutritional supplementation, new medical research, and new types of low-stress equipment (ex: core strength balls, exercise bands, etc.) that have been developed since this book was published ... but you can find books on such things elsewhere.

Highly recommended - if you can find a copy.

Impotence is mainly a inability of maintaining an erection for sexual intercourse. Psychological impotence can be easily cured with counseling but some of the types of impotence are irreversible. Physical impotence mostly occurs from cardiovascular illness or diabetes. If a man has an erection at night the impotence is surely psychological related but if he has none than it might be physiological however you might find interesting the book "Natural Penis Enlargement: New Methods of Avoiding and Curing Impotence, Premature Ejaculation, and Erectile Dysfunction Safely and Inexpensively. New ... No Pumps, No Pills and No Gadgets! Vol. 2" by Platinum Millennium as it treats the same subject.

This book was a real eye-opener. I have had erectile dysfunction for quite some time since a machining accident, and I have tried every book/technique for overcoming my insecurities on the market. I tried viagra, seeing many urologists, and even hypnotism and still could not get it up! Imagine the effect this terrible disease has on your self esteem and how difficult it is to get into a serious relationship. Needless to say the 10 years before I read this book were a dark time for me. I wont give too much away because if you are like me you will love reading this book from cover to cover, but several important topics are covered including daily excercises to improve public muscle strength and overcoming our anxieties about sex and masturbation. The author's style was uplifting...I was truly put at ease by his comforting tone.

This book is extremely useful as you search information about what to wear...and know few about it. History, materials, are well described but I feel somewhat disappointed as I found no photos, and few counselling about how to match the different items, and when...except for the excellent formal wear chapters.
But after all, this is a pocket book, well-done and quite instructing!

As the wife of a man just diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer, I found this book very disturbing because it seems to over-emphasize deaths and tragedies and not survivors in many places. For example, in the section on how prostate cancer impacts spouses and daughters, there were nine women's stories--five of whom had their men die of prostate cancer, two of whom had upsetting stories about advanced prostate cancer, and only two with men who had had locally confined prostate cancer and seemed to do alright. Since 13 percent of all men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and only 2-3 percent of all men die from it, this seemed to be a VERY VERY unbalanced treatment.

More than 80 percent of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer DO NOT DIE FROM it according to my reading--but in this book more than half of the examples of the men in the women's lives did die! I was looking for people who had gone through what I can expect to go through and instead read A LOT about a minority who suffered horribly ("The last five years have been a whirlwind of anger, fear, uncertainty, indifference, anxiety and depression" from one. "My future was wiped out . . . Loss of income, lonliness, no companion, no best friend, no lover. Long, lonely evenings, days, weekends. . . Widow" as the CONCLUDING words of another.) This was not helpful to me. And the acocunts from survivors were not in-depth enough on the whole, though I did really like seeing all their names and faces--that in itself was reassuring. But there was only a scant paragraph from Bob Dole, for example.

The book is graphically VERY well done but not as informative overall as the prostate cancer books by either Dr. Walsh of Johns Hopkins or Dr. Loo or Cornell. Both of those gave me more facts, understanding and a more realistic understanding. The ABC's of Prostate Cancer seems designed to have people take prostate cancer seriously and get tested--which I'm all for. It is not the best book for those with early disease to read or even more advanced disease in my opinion since the in-depth profiles are not representative of the frequency and ditribution of prostate survivors. There is also not enough on diet and new treatments.

The ABCs of Prostate Cancer is simply the finest book in its class. It elegantly and cleanly takes the most difficult concepts and clearly and simply lays them out. The use of graphic is the best I've encountered in a popular medicine book. Dr. Oesterling's devotion to his own father, who had prostate cancer, is remarkable. This gives any prostate cancer patient a sharp and clear edge with the best presentation of the most up to date material yet. Nice Job!

Bea is a very ambitious kindergartener bored by the silly games she has to play with the other 5 and 6 year olds. Mr. Jones is an advertising executive stressed by his job and his commute who dislikes his boss's sense of humor. One morning Mr. Jones suggest they switch places- a plan that is perfect for each of them. Bea loves being an executive, riding the train, entertaining over lunch and loves the boss's sense of humor. Mr. Jones is a whiz at color identification, enjoys turning cartwheels and quickly becomes the kindergarten teacher's pet. After several days of switching, they see no reason to return to the old way of doing things.

I love the illustrations as well as the very tongue in cheek text. The drawings are finely wrought in pencil with great detail and texturing- my son spends time wondering how she could do so much variation with so little. There a few books with only black and white drawings so this one is fantastic for inspiring aspiring artists.

I have the fortune of working with Amy Schwartz and was absolutely DELIGHTED to learn that she was the brain behind this particular book. I remember seeing it for the first time on Reading Rainbow as a kid and loved it. It's a humorous look at the age-old gripe between adults and kids: children who want to be grown up and grown ups who want to stay children. Well written and with simple art that is reminiscent of early American black-and-white engravings, BEA AND MR. JONES is a sweet story that should be read by every kid, young and old.
