So I bought these cookbooks for my husband on his days to cook (yeah right) and I'm really impressed with them. There are some GREAT recipes in this book series that aren't too bad health wise. I've actually used some of the recipes and they came out really tasty. Hubby even was able to make one and follow the easy recipe no problem. Highly recommended!

I bought this book because I hoped it would give me some ideas on quick, simple meals involving a grill. I am a male hobby cook and found plenty of new very simple ideas. I especially enjoy some of the cooking instructions like use so much beer and so much ginger ale and then drink the beer and give the ginger ale to your girl friend.
The book is written on a very easy beginning level. This is for someone who is just beginning to learn the fun of cooking.

Let's face it, we all love being a little creative in the kitchen or around the grill every now and then. Who would have thought ordinary canned cola or beer would add great taste to the best meats on the grill? Mix a budweiser with worcestershire sauce, grilling mix, and a small jar of chopped jalapenos and you have a wild barbecue mix making you believe you may be out in the Caribbeans. Or a can of sloppy joe barbecue sauce mixed with jalapenos. There are recipes a plenty guaranteed to fire up your taste buds.

Author David Joachim, who also penned A MAN, A CAN, A PLAN gives many great tips for perfecting your roastings for the grill. This book is a real must for anybody inviting guests over for a summer barbecue. Whether it's steak fajitas doused in beer, a rotisserie chicken grilled with a can of budweiser up the (orifice), or ordinary St. Louis Style Ribs - there are no limits as to what an ordinary can will do to add flavor to your favorite dishes. Highly recommended for any barbecue chef wannabes out there!

Guy meals on the grill

This sturdy paperboard cookbook, presented by Men's Health magazine, is geared for guys who are novices at cooking and looking for easy meals to prepare on the grill. These 50 recipes, each of which is enhanced with ingredients out of cans, include beef, chicken, fish, pizza, pork, Spam, turkey, and veggies. Among the recipes are beer-can chicken, red-hot ribs, Dr Pepper-glazed ham, teriyaki turkey, and spuds on a stick.

The main ingredients and the finished product are illustrated with photographs. The book includes nutritional information, tips on the art of grilling, and a generous dollop of humor. Some of these recipes might be a little tricky for the novice cook to prepare, considering the unpredictability of a grill's flames and heat level, but there are still plenty of foolproof meals here beyond basic burgers and chicken that are great for feeding (and impressing) guests.

This book hits on a subject that is rarely ever spoken of. It addresses issues of the male anatomy that I've long suspected were problematic, but on which I could never find any information. The book is informative and eye opening. If you're male, you should read this!

The author has written an intelligent, frank and provoking book about the area of the body least talked about in an intelligent, frank and provoking manner. I consider this book essential for anyone in the "body work" field. It is a well written authoritive work by a scientist well versed in anatomy, physiology, and somatics. An excellent and important book for any Medical Doctor, Psychologist or Physical Therapist yet easily understood and enjoyed by someone with a less scientific mind. In fact, I consider this book a "MUST READ" for P.T.'s, Massage Therapists, and all body workers, consultants and trainers who work with men. I would also consider this book an excellent primer for any one (woman OR man) involved in a sexual, romantic, or loving relationship with a male. It is the equivalent of the famous "Our Bodies Our Selves" only about men. I recommend this book with highest praises!

Practical, informative, fascinating

This is a superb book. It is written particularly for Rolfers, but is essential reading for any other body worker as well. Since studying this book on my own, I have become much more confident doing pelvic massage with male clients. Having detailed knowledge of the underlying structures allows me to explain to men what I'm doing and why. Clients can be informally instructed at the same time they are made more comfortable with touch in this area. For this reason, the book is valuable for all men who want to learn about their own bodies.

The text is clearly written and technical terms are explained. A particular strength is close-up photos of the genital areas of a variety of men. Each of these is paired with a line drawing of the same scale based on that photograph and showing the underlying anatomy. This arrangement makes it easy to relate what one sees on the table during a session with what one is feeling beneath the skin as one works.

Other chapters on foetal and juvenile genital development, posture, and sexuality are also very informative.

I have no hesitation at all in giving this excellent book five stars.

Good info for all men and women.

Not sure what I expected, but I did find the presentation thorough, helpful and logical. Much of the general background can be found in other soucebooks and the internet but it was useful to have the information all in one location. The author did help me to identify long-standing posture problems as related to lower back pain. As a manual for structure and function, the book is very good; the sections on pelvic movements are very clearly explained. Unfortunately, the references to Rolfing and bodywork seem too vague

Letting Go of Tension in the Pelvis

Schultz's work breaks through barriers. By treating a formerly taboo area in body work--the male pelvis--he demonstrates how the lack of attention to that area has only increased the tension that our culture has inculcated in men. Professionally, with diagrams and photos, he shows how bodyworkers can assist their clients in releasing the pelvic tightness that has accumulated over the years for social psychological reasons. This hands on book is a must read for all bodyworkers and is obviously based on a lifetime of experience in the field. He ends with a discussion of healthy male sexuality as opposed to the sexual and postural dysfunction that can result from unhealthy pelvic tension and its resulting malformation.

Review Date: 2005-02-12
I like to exercise at least five times a week. I do weightlifting and cardio on alternate days. I'm always looking for new exercises to keep variety in my workout routine.

One of the new exercises was the use of fitness / stability / exercise / Swiss balls. The gym that I workout at has a wall chart with about 15 fitness ball exercises. I wasn't too impressed with the wall chart and I became skeptical about the ball. I thought it would be another exercise fad that would soon fade until I met an incredible kayak paddler who told me that he's a faithful fitness ball user and he credits its use to his current success as a paddler.

I looked through Amazon and I found this book. There's one marketed for women and one for men. I purchased the one for men. After getting the book and reviewing it, I'm not exactly sure why it's only marketed to men. It looks like it would be suitable for most women. I would consider this book suitable for men and women who are already in or serious about getting into good physical condition. If you're a couch potato or out-of-shape, I would recommend you NOT get this book. I'd recommend you get a more basic book.

The exercises in the book are different than those on the chart that hangs in the gym. I had concerns about safety in using dumbbells with the fitness balls. For this reason, I don't use heavy weights. Instead, I use lighter weights but trying to maintain stability while using the weights really gives a good core body workout. I still primarily use heavier weights on a bench, but for variety, I will switch to the lighter weights and the ball. I truly enjoy the change of routine and I look forward to those days when I use the ball especially when I get into a "rut" or "bored."

The daily exercises that I really like to use with the ball are those for the ABS. The reverse crunch and pike crunch are my favorites. I also daily use the stretch exercises with the ball.

There are several "advance" exercises in the book. I haven't been able to do the "advance" exercises just yet, but it's a goal of mine.

There is a DVD that comes with this book. It contains a few exercises. I wasn't too impress with it. The book (and a fitness ball) is all that you'll need.

The book has some really good information, great ideas for firming up and strengthening through the utilization of the excercise ball. The DVD on the otherhand (the fact that it had a DVD was partly why I purchased this book) was absolutely worthless. Paul has no personality. He looks lost throughout the video. A couple times I noticed the two people behind him almost look embarrassed. The DVD shows you how to do a few of the exercises from the book, but ONLY the basic ones. Blah blah blah. If I had known the DVD was such a joke, I most likely would not have bought this product.

I was looking for a exercise book that would combine my requirements for balance, flexibility and strength.Powersculpt for men fits the bill! As a rear leg above amputee I needed the challenge that a program like powersculpt provides. I have started with the simplest exercises and they provide penty of challenge for me but I am seeing improvements daily. The structure of the exercises are from beginner to advanced so it meets the needs of everyone. You can follow their structured dvd program or create your own. Some of the exercises actually involve messaging your body with the ball which provides the benefits of that type of therapy.Get on the ball and have some fun!

The book "Sex, Men and God" is immensly helpful in understanding the underlaying reasons for sexual addiction. The problem is affecting men all over the world. Dr. Weiss gives you a thorough understanding of the problem and clear real-life examples. He also gives you practical step-by-step guidelines for working through the problems and solving them on your way to sexual success. The author obviously has years of counseling experience on the subject. I strongly recommend the book.

The book wasn't as insightful as I'd hoped it would be. It basically tells that men lose weight faster (which I think almost everybody knows) and why they lose it faster. I was hoping it would give tips on how to do it together, how to set up a routine as far as exercising, better eating tips and so on. It really didn't and I was kind of disappointed. But I still love and totally rely on anything Weight Watchers produces because the program works.

Discovering the other half of the overweight and obese population
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 14 total.
Review Date: 2007-06-01
About 150 million US adults are overweight or obese. Amazingly, half of them are vastly underrepresented, if not ignored, in most of the clinical trials, scientific articles and lay publications concerning excess weight. This largely invisible group is called...men. Although they represent at least half of the overweight and obese population, and are at least as vulnerable as women (if not more so) to the health dangers of excess weight, men are largely absent in obesity and weight control research.

In "She Loses, He Loses: The Truth about Men, Women, and Weight Loss", Karen Miller-Kovach convincingly makes the case that, when it comes to weight and weight control, men are not just women with remote controls and back hair. Despite the dangers to them of excess weight, men perceive and address weight problems differently than do women. Approaches to weight control developed only within female samples are not only unlikely to be successful with men, they may never be tried by men.

Miller-Kovach should be commended for shining a bright, clear light on this mostly invisible half of the overweight and obese population. She combines data from scientific literature, market research and clinical anecdotes in a highly instructive and readable book that is suitable for public and professional readers alike. Women and men are equally in need of help in dealing with this growing health problem, and Miller-Kovach has provided needed guidance in assisting both groups in this challenge.

How to understand (or at least not tick off) your mate

Review Date: 2007-05-13
This book is a great guide to how men and women communicate, or fail to. If your loved one (presuming they are the opposite sex, or at least think like the opposite sex)needs to lose a few pounds but hasn't followed your excellent advice or hints, this is the book for you. Guys think that they can work out and lose weight like they we're back in their twenties (sorry, fat chance [no pun intended]). Gals think that their guy is uninterested because they don't want to explore 846,373 options before trying to lose weight (hey, cut the extra stuff and get to the meat of the matter), or that their guy doesn't understand what they're going through.

If you're trying to understand the other half, and love them enough to want to understand, or at least communicate on this highly emotionally charged issue, read this book. Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, and weight loss as a team is a lot easier no matter what planet you're from.

I am nearly finished reading the book and I have really learned a lot. Most of the information is common sense kind of stuff, but it helps when someone helps you to put words to the situation. My husband and I are both working together to lose weight and a lot of the stuff they say in the book totally applies to our situation. I've also found it helpful to use to help my other friends who are struggling with weight loss and their husband are NOT supportive. I've been able to share with them ways they can share with their husbands so their husbands can "relate" to their situation with words they would use.

Everything He Hasn't Told You Yet: A New Way to Get Men Talking About Stuff That Matters
My husband is the considered, quiet type who I have to literally strangle to get anything meaningful out of. It's so frustrating. But I read a starred review of Everything He Hasn't Told You Yet in the American Library Journal. What caught my interest was that it claimed to be a series of icebreakers to help women get their men to reveal what made them tick. Well, that was good enough for me. It actually works! I'm getting conversation. And it's so easy. The scenario in the book that especially worked was Mean to Me. Hubby unearthed all sorts of things about himself. Like, I didn't know he really hated his birthday. And now I know why. The American Library Journal also said: 'Everything He Hasn't Told You Yet is clever, fun, hard to put down, and highly recommended.' Ditto from me.

In other words, the magic seemed to have gone and it didn't feel like we were going anywhere. Not any more! Right from the very first scenario, this book lived up to its promise and had him telling me all kinds of things he hadn't thought to tell me before. It brought up lots of stuff that we'd never thought to discuss and it made for lots of laughter and a few tears too. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to reinvigorate a relationship.

Although much of the material in this book hasn't changed since the book was written, many of it has. The reader must skillfully distinguish what was good advice for the '80s and what will not work today. The general overview on sexual techniques is well-written and applicable but does not go into as much detail to actually succeed in the tasks. This is another one of those books that says "all you have to do is this" without really telling you how to do it but is a good start at knowing what other topics you may need to find other books in specific subject areas about.

No other book -- and no other therapist -- have offered such a cogent and searching examination of the psychological factors attending on HIV seroconversion. This volume has set the tone for the debate on "barebacking" and other '90s phenonomena. But it is much more: a recipe for living, with no definitive conclusions, although with plenty of food for thought for the thoughtful reader. This is necessary reading for anyone who has quarrelled with their own HIV fantasies, or with guilt, or dread. It is a book for every gay man who lives the way we live now.

In the Shadow of the Epidemic is an essential textbook for all mental health professionals. Set in a brilliant clinical framework, it retains in a stirring way a sense of the person within each case study; there is a wealth of knowledge balanced with a profound feeling within. I found that each chapter evoked a sense of pain, grief and loss. This awareness is critical in understanding the clinical issues that must be examined when treating this community. Every mental health professional must confront these issues. This book is the essential tool to accomplish this. I am eagerly waiting for the next volume from Dr. Odets.

Overstated, if not overrated

An intriguing theory, but one of little real relevance to understanding phenomena such as the "Second Wave" of HIV. It has almost nothing to say about the wave of seroconversions among younger gay men, who are not afflicted by the guilt of surviving the AIDS deaths of friends they never had, and most of whom, far from seeing it as "inevitable," actually give precious little thought to the possibility of becoming infected before it's too late.

A nice contribution to our understanding of a small subset of new infections, but that's all it is.

This book addresses a subject that is rarely acknowledged and litle recognized--that of the grief of men after an abortion. This is a valuable book for the man looking to understand the many emotions he is feeling as he deals with his role in an abortion. AS an expert in the field of post-abortion healing, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand the wounds of abortion in men and to anyone trying to make sense of his feelings.

Finally a book addressing a very important issue.

The issue of men and abortion is a rare topic of discussion. However, there are millions of men out there that are suffering from post-abortion emotions. This book is a breakthrough in addressing this ignored situation. I myself am a father of an aborted child. This book hit home before I even finished the first chapter. The only people that can truly understand the impact that abortion has on men are the men that have been through it. This book shares the testimonials of several men and how their lives have changed. A must read for anyone who has been through this unfortunate situation.

This book is quite useful for anyone who knows very little about the modeling industry, and wants to know exactly what to expect if they decide to persue modeling, as either a hobby or a career. This book is extremely thorough, answering any questions you may have about the modeling industry. It even gives names and addresses of popular modeling agencies around the world!!! The make-up tips were somewhat useful, as well. After reading this book, I had the confidence to send my portfolio to a local agency. I have been in 5 print advertising ads and 2 television commercials here in Detroit. I am so greatful I read this book!!!

Read This Book!

I guess everybody's an expert, but I found the hair and make-up techniques recommended in this book silly and outdated. Models today wear no make-up (maybe moisturizer or lip balm)to castings unless they're coming directly from a booking. Ditto for hair-'do's. The book could have addressed skin care and healthy lifestyle for today's young people rather than touting superficial strategies from the 'experts'. Do you want to know how to become a model or how to get a date?

A MUST-HAVE for anyone who wants to model!!!

I've met Marie Anderson Boyd and listened to her speak at a model search. When I got back home from the search, I checked her book out at the library. I learned soooooo much from that book. If you're going to get into modeling, then this book is a MUST HAVE!! You will learn so much that you won't know what to do with all the information. Everything from how to get an agency to represent you to diet and exercise tips. It's not a dry read either, I COULD NOT put it down; very interesting and at times humorous too
