The book is self-explanatory and depicts step-by-step the progress of the training. Nevertheless, it does also throw in some more variations of workouts so that the reader never gets bored with the same workout.

I bought this book 2 years ago and still use the routines. This is a good book for beginner to intermediate trainers who want variety. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get in shape quickly and effectively.

Just trust it and follow the simple directions.

This book provides a logical progression of workouts and no gimmicks. As a previous reviewer noted, it is poorly edited--but not in a way that compromises comprehension.

You need a pull-up bar and a place to run 20, 40, 60, and 100 meter sprints to complete the work-outs. Other reviewers seem to be emphasizing that you need dumbells, but only their harder workouts call for weights (and they don't have to be dumbells, for example they could be milk jugs filled with water or sand).

Anyway, if you complete each of their three six-week schedules in succession, you will be very fit indeed.

This book gives a simple but effective way to get in shape, using calisthetics, weights, running and boxing to achieve it. It offers three levels of training, all basically the same format but with different intensity levels.
I have used this book several times over the last 2 years and enjoy the workouts. I break up the daily routines into 3 segments-the calisthetic part in the morning, the weights in the afternoon and the ad work in the evening. On running days, a similar pattern-running in the morning, weights at lunch and ab work in the evening. The routines don't take long that way but adds to fat-burning and muscle-building without exhaustion.
There are some negative points: they show exercises that they don't use and suggest exercises that they don't show.
But overall, I recommend this book to everyone who wants to get in shape without joining a gym.

This is one of those books that makes you wonder if anyone attempted to proof or edit it before publication. A couple of the exercises referred to in the workouts cannot be found in the exercise descriptions. Sometimes, the written descriptions of the exercises contradict the accompanying photographs. Don't get me wrong, the routines provide tough and credible workouts. But reading the book requires some interpretation and assumptions.

It wasn't that long ago that your family doctor was the only option when you were faced with health issues. You'd make an appointment and he'd prescribe a pill. If that magic pill didn't help you'd get another. Finally, given no other alternative, you'd just learn to live with your pain symptoms.

Today, it seems that more and more people are becoming open to complimentary and alternative health resources. Many are unhappy with their present care. Others are simply looking for ways to compliment their current treatments.

Although the actual methods vary substantially, most of these therapies look to the root cause of dis-ease and then seek to understand, release, or heal that issue. Still, the sheer number of options can be overwhelming for the average person. Where to even start?

In my opinion, reading UnBreak your Health is a very good way to begin. This book provides quite an extensive list of possible alternative and complementary therapies. Moreover, for each method, the author provides important contact information and comments from individuals who have actually tried the option.

As the babyboom generation ages (as well as generations X, Y & Z, for that matter), personal health and physical fitness have become more than just fashionable -- they are recognized as fundamental to being able to enjoy life, pursue goals, and live longer. The rise in the popularity of what is described as Alternative Medicine has also taken place because of the shortcomings of traditional medicine to insure continued good health and/or speedy recovery from illness or injury. In "Unbreak Your Health: The Complete Guide To Complementary & Alternative Therapies", Alan E. Smith has compiled more than 300 entries on more than 135 alternative health subjects, providing both students of alternative medicine and non-specialist general readers with an interest in supplements and alternatives to what traditional medicine has to offer them with respect to basic health concepts. Impressively organized and presented with an alphabetized roster of therapies for the body, a section devoted to therapies for the mind; and an entire chapter of therapies applicable to the human 'spirt' or 'energy', "Unbreak Your Health" is thoroughly 'reader friendly' and accessible. Of special note are the chapters on Insurance, Alan Smith's conclusions, his recommendations, the resources list, bibliography for further reading, and a comprehensive index. "Unbreak Your Health" is very strongly recommended and fundamentally useful reading for students of Alternative Medicine, and would proof a popular addition to community library Health & Medicine reference collections.

"UnBreak Your Health: The Complete Guide to Complementary & Alternative Therapies" by Alan E. Smith presents a comprehensive guide useful for when you want to explore other options beyond traditional medicine. If you are considering complementary or alternative therapies you are not alone! According to a statistic presented in the introduction, in the year 2002 over half of all Americans turned to trying one of these therapies. Complementary and alternative therapies are positive on many levels. They focus on the fact that each person is a "unique individual composed of mind, body and spirit (or life-force energy)" and that each problem should be solved by tailoring the treatment to the specific person. Instead of focusing on the specific symptoms or issues as traditional medicine oftentimes does, complementary and alternative therapies often look at the body as a whole and work to heal the entire entity to make the body function in a more efficient manner. They go to the inner source of the problem rather than just treating the topical symptoms.

The author divides the different therapies up into three areas: the body, the mind and the energy/spirit. The "body" section presents an overview of such therapies from the familiar like chiropractic care and massage to the lesser known like Emei Qigong and the Nambudripdad Allergy Elimination Technique. The "mind" chapter focuses on therapies such as Art Therapy, Guided Imagery, Hypnosis, and Traumatic Incident Reduction. Finally, the "energy/spirit" section focuses on therapies which use human energy to heal such as Acupuncture, Crystal Bowl Therapy, Polarity Therapy and Qi Gong.

Each therapy examined in the book has a description explaining the origins, beliefs and techniques used in the method. After most descriptions is a favorite part of mine called "user comments" which aids in understanding how effective these therapies are. These are comments from actual users of these particular methods. It is very interesting to see the results that these people have had using the different techniques. This section makes the book more personable instead of strictly a reference guide. Websites are listed for most therapies if readers would like to seek out more information or specifics.

I recommend this thorough guide to complementary and alternative therapies to anyone who is frustrated with conventional medicine's approach to his health issues or to anyone who just wants to educate himself as to what is out there in terms of non-traditional care. "UnBreak Your Health: The Complete Guide to Complementary & Alternative Therapies" presents so many different options and techniques, some of which I never knew existed, and the information is presented in a very reader friendly and easy to use way.

I was introduced to the book in the 80's when it first came out, and actually attended a seminar when it was something people did. I have been looking for the book since. I still have my identifiers and color swatches from when I went through the seminar to discover the best colors for me to wear.

I would recommend reading the book and really putting it to use. Typically there are shirts and items we all wear that we love. Usually these are the items that hold a key to what you really should be buying in color and style. I would also recommend the book.. "More Dash than Cash" since it is a good way to take the practices into the arena of usage and style.

I'm excited about this book. I love to buy clothes and I often dislike what I have bought almost right away. This gives a comprehensive guide to choosing colors and designing a complete wardrobe. It allows up to 2 years to phase out old and unmatching stuff. The book allows for people who dress casually and are on a moderate budget.

I have not quite finished reading this book but am very excited about it. It really is a good comprehensive guide for men. These are difficult lessons for men to digest and they are presented fairly straightforwardly and in a manner that is simple to understand. Despite the fact that the book is almost twenty years old, it is one of the few where I find the illustrations do not seem particularly out of date. On one point I may have to disagree with Ms Jackson. She states that a man should not mix three patterns when wearing a suit, shirt, and tie. I find that in modern dress, this can distinguish the men from the boys. I do agree that this is somehting that not all men will be able to do effectively so it may be best to avoid it (which may be the authors point in discouraging it). If you want to go one step beyond this book, pick up Alan Flusser's Style and the Man. With these two resources, you will have no excuse for not looking your best every day.

This is a great style book for men since there are few good ones out there for us and, if we spend too much time thinking about it, some people think we're you know what!

The main thrust of this book is: different color and shades look best on certain people depending on their skin coloring but that isn't limited to race either. The four areas are: winter, spring, summer and fall. Few variations in each one, too.

Now, that alone would give this a four star but the author goes beyond that: she covers hair styles based on face shapes, combining colors, clothes to buy based on your dressing style (these are broken down, too) and advice for what to seek out based on your color styles and your dressing styles. For instance, a more formal type gets certain types of jackets and slacks whereas a casual type gets more jeans and the like.

Excellent book. Highly recommend.

A great money saver, a solid value.

Avoiding to buy wrong colored clothes you never end up using easily saves up the price of this great book! It is very nicely written with excellent photos. I only wish they had included a more complete tear-away palette for shopping! My initial response was that many colors especially in the spring and summer palettes appeared very bright and kind of "feminine" (say bright orchid, raspberry, lavender), but perhaps I'll get used to the idea. I bet the only one's really using those colors are the guys that have read the book!?

My main complaint is the discussion about facial color or tone and other problems related to determining one's own season. It is confusing. The book distinguishes between blue and yellow (golden) based facial prototypes, but also maintains that "cool types" (blueish) may appear yellowish in appearance ("sappy"). Then how can I tell whether yellow or orange clothes harmonize with my own (natural) yellowness or produce the exact opposite, i.e "make me look even more sappy"? How can I tell a "sappy summer" or a "pastel autumn" from a "olive-skinned winter"? Help! The differences seem very subtle indeed. It seems like there actually was a need for more intermediate palettes for all us "between-seasons" types?

I found the manly styles discussion in the end of the book a bit silly. Those prototypes seemed very unreal to me.

These are actually very minor complaints, even if they may not sound like they were, as I was very positively influenced by this book. It has saved me loads of money.

I have been using low-fat cookbooks for about 10 years and this is the best low-fat cookbook I have ever owned (this is impressive, due to the fact that I probable own 50 low-fat cookbooks). Every recipe I have tried so far is wonderful. The servings are big enough for both my husband and me. This is not just a man's cookbook, it is a cookbook for anyone who likes to eat and cook.

Thank you, Don Mauer, for showing us healthy food that can be every bit as rich and tasty as the "bad" stuff.

This book, along with Don Mauer's prior cookbook, Lean and Lovin It, helped me lose over 70 pounds. A lot of low fat cookbooks really aren't written by people who like to eat or cook, and it shows. This one is written by someone who enjoys both. These recipes make eating low fat food not just palatable, but a way of life. One note -- a few of the recipes in this book appear to be improvements from the earlier cookbook -- the hummus and cocolate sauce recipes come to mind -- but I'm actually happy to try the variations.

That's what it says on the book and that is exactly the case with my son. I have 3 so this book will be well used! I understand some of the negative comments regarding the amount of biblical perspective in the book. I however, bought the book from a Christian book store so I already knew what I was getting. Buying a book like this off of Amazon makes it tricky. I don't think amazon was trying to deceive anyone at all nor the publishers. There are many books that may appeal to me by the description on amazon - but if I am unfamiliar with the publisher/author I always look further into it just to be sure I am not bringing advice in to the family from a religious source that I do not agree with. If I had first read about this book here at Amazon, I would have assumed it was a Biblically based book because the author is described as being a part of Focus on the Family and the publisher is Zonderkids - both of which I am familiar with as a Christian consumer. I can understand that that may not be as obvious to a non-Christian. Having said that, however, unless a person just flat out doesn't believe that GOD created the universe and every human on earth... I wouldn't think this would be too offensive only because if you agree that God created all of us - then it would seem appropriate to see what He had intended for us and our bodies.... regardless of whether or not you choose to read the Bible routinely or claim Christ as your Saviour. Can't it be as simple as "God created man and woman therefore he is the ultimate teacher regarding our bodies?" (A person who denies God created the universe would probably not like this book.) Nonetheless - the information is fantasitic and it covers topics that can be really hard to talk to your kids about - especially if they are very private. It is very cleverly done in such a way as to keep a pre-teen engaged in the reading.

I got this book for my 10 year old nephew. I read it all before giving it to him. He really didn't seem very interested just yet, but I think he will go back to this in a year or so. When I gave it to him, we talked about how this book gave a lot of facts about boys' bodies, but it also gave a lot of opinions about moral issues and things like that. I explained that I agree with some of the opinions, but disagree with others. I think this book is good for teaching kids that people have many different viewpoints on this topic and ultimately they will have to choose their own and it's ok if it's different than mine.

I was not put off by the other comments and reviews that this is a biblically based book because we're Jewish. In fact, I kind of liked the idea that some of these issues could be talked about openly and also with modesty. But when I got the book, I realized that the distinction needs to be made that there are references to the Christian bible, (in addition to the Hebrew bible) directly speaking about Jesus. That threw me off some and I've had to "edit" with a marker so it's not confusing or distracting from what we're teaching at home.

I do wish that there was more clarity in the description in the reviews which is why I'm adding my two cents here and hopefully make it more clear for others. I'll be giving the edited version to my son but I probably would not have bought it in the first place if I had seen it in person in a book store.

The issues covered span a pretty good spectrum and the author doesn't shy away from sensitive issues, handled by and large, in a fine way.

So, if you're Christian, you'll love this book for your growing son. I docked it one star only because it wasn't up front enough for me that it was Christian.

A must have!

I bought this book for my 9 year old son and I would highly recommend this to any parent of a tween boy. Yes, it is very biblically based and that is what is so great about it. Our kids are so inindated with what the world thinks these days, that's it's great to read something that is not based on worldly thinking. And, these are some pretty important subjects.

We had our son read the book first and then we asked him if he had any questions. At first, he did not, but as time as gone on, he has had some questions. The questions are trickling in, but at least he has some idea of what he is asking about.

Great for teaching little men how to do their first cooking projects. Highly recommend.

The title is so demeaning to men that it made me angry. Women are making it so difficult for men while trying to emulate them. They need help not competition.
The author may appeal to the very young and inexperienced although I found her theory was not at all clear.
Her strongest point was made regarding sex. She has a healthy attitude there.

Using the knowledge, I have improved my relationship with my wife, children, and friends. It has even given me insight into relationships at work (esp male to male.)

I found the title a bit off putting, but applicable.

I have recommended this book to many friends and clients, and it has been very helpful to them. In the process of ordering another copy, I just read a review that refers to it as "a waste of time" for men. I disagree! But then again, no book is a one-size fits all...

This book is a better fit for men who have been depressed in an atypical way and who need a different perspective to understand themselves and get better. (The current working model of depression reflects more culturally "feminine" traits.) This book suggests that when a man abuses alcohol or drugs, becomes aggressive after a loss, or intimidates others with his 'bad moods', it is easy to overlook the vulnerable emotions behind self-destructive behaviors and violent behaviors. It's just as easy to miss the underlying clinical depression. The core value of this book is to suggest that we look beneath the mask. Written more as a self-help book than a textbook, it is shorter on theory and research than I like. But it is geared to a lay audience and succeeds in this way. There are many case studies and practical suggestions that the author's have successfully used in clinical practice.

Simply put, this book has been needed for quite a while. But it may not fit everyone in the same way.

Overcome Male Depression: Become A Panty-Waist

This is overly simplistic, leftist, academic tripe with the following bottom line premise: men are miserable, depressed, violent creatures because our parents raised us up to be ... well, men.

Call me cynical, but I'm suspicious of authors who use a Preface to essentially disavow any resposibility or even legitimacy for the treacle they are about to set forth. I guess it is important to know though that the book is based on a lot of their personal experiences and that writing it was a marvelous bonding experience for them.

Having established their loophole and "sensitivity credentials" the authors proceed to parrot the feminist agenda. It soon occurs to the reader that, from the authors' perspective, the Charlton Heston's and John Wayne's of the world are inherently depressed beyond belief while the Woody Allen's are almost manic.

My bottom line: if you're a man this book is a waste of time.

This is a well explained, well written book, and it does cover all the basis, from the initial prostate problems, to the question on how to handle the possibility of surgical procedure. The 2 authors, bring up all the possible ways of treatments, including herbal, but they are promoting a pollen called " Cernitin" or also called "Prostaphyl", which was heavily and successfully tested in Europe, so they explain. But the book buyer needs to check if the product "Cernitin" is really available, in his town. I was unable to find this in the Manhattan borough of New York City. I tried to contact Brenda Addely through her webside (unsuccessfully), never received a reply, and wrote to the President of Crown Publishers, Inc ,in New York City, on 12/17/98, that I tried to contact Brenda Adderly, and that I could not buy the product, but no reply was received either. .

After reading the book I started taking Cernilton because I was beginning to have problems related to my prostate (58 year old male). If I remember correctly, I started to notice a difference within 2 weeks. My PSA test a few months ago was 1.5 & my previously slightly enlarged prostate had reduced in size. I'm very glad that I read this book because the products I had been taking for the prostate had limited or no noticeable effects.

I have been suffering from cronic prostatites since I was 40 years old (I'm 54 now). I had tried many Doctor prescribed treatments but the symptoms continued to reoccur. I then heard about saw palmetto and started taking it 4 years ago, which helped greatly for the first 3 years. Then I noticed it was not helping as much and searched for help. I bought the Prostate Cure from Amazon and read it thoroughly. It was very reassuring to know that there may be help. I performed a search on the internet for Cernitin and purchased a bottle immediately.
I have been taking it for a year and it has been a very successful treatment for my prostate. I still continue to take a mens health vitamin with 160mg saw palmetto and other vitamins and minerals. The title is misleading in that it is not really a cure, if I stop taking the cernitin the symptoms return. However with continued treatment I have become a new man.

I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed in this and very pleased at the same time. When it arrived, with other books I should mention, my wife took the tried and true stance, similar to the past 20 years, of "not again". She did not want to even look at the books. However, this book is designed on how to please the woman only and directed entirely to her pleasure. Which I must say is 99% of the way it should be anyway. So, my wife thought I should read this book only and return the others. I read it and was disappointed a little. I got 75% of the way through before it began to teach me anything I did not already know and I realy don't know anything.

I did like the chapter on shaving very much. In fact for the last few years I have been shaving my own face with the old shaving cream and brush and can attest to the closeness of the shave and it is best for sensitive skin, but I digress. I think only 2 of the 12 or 13 chapters had any information that was useful, but Oh how useful they were. I was able to try something new one evening and she said "did you get that from the book?" With a grin on her face and a shortness of breath not noticed in a few years.

I of coarse gave all the credit to the book. She then thought we should read it together and look at the other books as well. So, even though I think only 2 chapters had anything new they have served both of us old married folk well and that would be why it gets 5 stars. Not because I learned stuff from start to end, but because the book in general did what I was hoping for, renewed some fire into a couple middle aged, slightly pudgy, people who needed a spark.

Good venture into a female focused sex book

While there are things I would like to see expanded in this book and a poor choice of Wikipedia for some of the information, it is a good book that looks at sex as something far more than penis-vagina intercourse. The focus of this book is on making sexual intimacy primarily about female pleasure with the idea that penetration then may follow and indeed sexual encounters increase when the woman is very well pleased with her partner (male or female). The language of the book is more appealing for men I strongly suspect but then men are the target audience. As long as the reader does not see the book as a step by step list of activities he must do and considers the questions and underlining goals, he'll get good use of the book. Sadly as a scholar the use of Wikipedia instead of peer reviewed studies of human sexuality or anatomy automatically knocks off a star for me in the review.

This is a great book if you're looking for the mechanics of producing pleasure in the female body. However, if you see people more holistically, as the union of body, mind, and spirit or heart, or a relationship as something more than a context for sex, this isn't the book for you. The author reduces sex to an almost clinical attempt to cause pleasure in the female body--almost as if it's a machine. For example, at one point he recommends the use of rubber gloves--a recommendable practice to avoid infection, to be sure, but what couple really wants to make their bedroom a doctor's office, unless it's only about physical sensations? Also, there's an obsessive emphasis placed on producing a bed-wetting female ejaculation--who cares about this subject if your sexual/personal relationship is otherwise complete? The author does talk some about relationships and romance, but their only purpose seems to be getting her in bed and ultimately getting the machine going, rather than being ends in themselves. He even discusses how to talk to a woman to get her to open up to more experimentation and expanded mechanics. It all depends on what you want.

An enlightening and expansive perspective for male or female readers. The sensativity and integrity of the writer are evident. The intention is to create a fun, relaxing and satisfying experience for both participants. The friends I have gifted with this book are thrilled and have shared it with their friends.

Every Woman Should Read This Book.......

My sexual journey in life as a woman has been one of self-exploration, reading and then experimentation, a path which few women ever take. Most men don't get to learn women's bodies because the majority of women don't know what to show them except their vibrators (which I will not use)..........I thought I was quite educated on the subject, but at the tender age of 54, I am not ashamed to say that I learned amazing things from this book..

I have just received an invitation to speak in front of a group of young women about female sensuality, eroticism and sexual techniques. Only your book will be offered at this workshop which will be presented as one of the most important books that they will ever read on the subject of her body and the many possibilities for pleasure besides intercourse.

So thanks for loving women enough to have taken the time to understand each one's unique needs (even when they don't) and to publish this vital information in a very detailed, well-researched and comprehensive tome that shows the ultimate respect for women. Hats off to you! I even ordered one signed copy of your book to keep in anticipation of my next lover......It will be MANDATORY READING....

Signed, Dominique
