I recently purchased the book and should say that this is reasonable guide for a regular person - it describes very well all necessary components for keeping yourself fit. I find the book as good for both men and women; in fact, I gave it to my wife to read and she liked it. It is easy to read and is structured well. Being myself in athletics for 10 years up untill 15 years ago, I support the author in his approach that simply pumping muscles will not make you healthy, but requires a good plan and steady execution.
What is missing is more exercises for different muscle groups and graphical presentations for them - "a picture worth a thousand words"...
This is not in any sense a book for bodybuilding, but an overall a good book to keep yourself fit.

Good advice for those starting out....

I picked up Mr. Stefano's book shortly after receiving a back injury which sidelined me for several months. As a result, I ended up gaining a few extra pounds which I was eager to be rid of. The book is 8 chapters in under 130 pages, so it's a quick read. The writing style is direct and to the point, and Mr. Stefano throws in stories from his firefighting career to keep things interesting and stress specific points he's trying to make. He addresses topics such as cardio vs. strength training, diet and caloric intake, specific exercises, and staying motivated. The book is directed at beginners, and he gives enough info to be useful, but not enough to overwhelm. I've been working out using the book's techniques for about 90 days now, and in that time I've lost 15 pounds and made noticeable gains in stamina and strength. I think 30 minutes a day is a little optimistic on his part, though. My workouts tend to last closer to an hour, but since I'm achieving measurable results, I don't think that's a bad thing. If you're willing to dedicate a little time and discipline though, you'll find this book to be a worthwhile purchase.

This book answers all the nagging questions about classic men's fashion that you have had. This should be standard issue for all boys so that when they become men they know that wearing sneakers with slacks is not actually the height of fashion but rather something that will kill any serious interview faster than dropping an f-bomb. It is amazing how little sartorial knowledge exists in society today, and I am thankful for this book as it has given me a lot of knowledge and insight into a topic I had given little though to in the past and that no one had ever bothered to teach me as I was growing up.

This book will teach you how to dress yourself properly for all occassions.

The "Classic" style of wearing clothes may not be as hip today as the many ways to dress down for formal occasions. I see many people who show up for job interviews, and I mean entry-level positions, who have make the mistake of having the ingredients right (shirt, pants, ties, shoes), but put to together oh so wrongly (ties past the buckle, color clashes, etc.) This book does more than tell you how to style yourself right, but the right attitude to have when you are carrying your fine clothing around. I really appreciate what this book has done for me in my young life.

A must read for anyone who regards their business clothing as an investment. Also an excellent guide for men who do not have a firm understanding of what classic/traditional business clothing is due to their female companions taking care of their clothes shopping needs.

One of two indispensable titles for a menswear library

Review Date: 2007-01-17
After reading other reviews of this book, I requested it for the 2006 holidays and received it. I have read it cover to cover and am highly pleased overall. I offer the following plusses and minuses:

+ This book's advice is direct and concise without losing completeness. In a short paperback, the authors give advice on suits, sport coats, shirts, socks, shoes, outerwear, accessories, business casual, and personal style.

+ Closely related, the authors offer salient historical details without lapsing into narration of major style arcs through the evolution of menswear. The rest of their writing offers advice and rules. Lest you be frightened by rules, know that the authors presents rules that you should follow first, understand second, and break creatively third.

+ The authors present opinions of many fine men's clothiers, including Burberry, J. Press, and more.

- There are precious few photographs in this volume, and most photos are of poor reproduction quality. The next best are the drawings and sketches that, while competent to good, do not substitute for photography of men's style icons.

The other indispensable title for a menswear library is "Dressing the Man" by Flusser. It solves the minus above and is the perfect companion to this title.

For the small price of this paperback, you cannot go wrong in adding it to your cart.

Good Menswear Addition

Great book and a must have for any man that has even the slightest interest in what he is wearing (whether an expert or not). The book is written in question and answer form with the topics ranging from neckwear / collars to shoes. An excellent place to start if a man is interested on dressing better (or if one is already experienced with menswear)

The book goes into depth on all aspects of men's clothing and is a great resource. It leans towards traditional wear (one won't find a discussion on premium denim / hip hop styles / mixing denim jeans with sport coats) but this book still covers the basics. And, if one doesn't know the basics of style, one can't be advanced, no matter what style of clothing one wears.

There are no pics, just drawings (which worked fine for me). All of the drawings accurately described the topic being discussed.

However, if one wants a truely beautiful book with illustrations and a very deep, rich history of men's clothing, Flusser's "Dressing the Man" is the way to go.

As a sex researcher and educator, men always ask me what makes a good lover. I still try to answer their questions but now I can also recommend a book that will explain to them what a good lover is AND teach them how to become one. I encourage all my students to get this book, especially the men. Most complaints I hear from women are covered in Dr. Castleman's insightful and informative text. But these techniques can be used in more than just heterosexual relationships. Anyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation could benefit from "Great Sex." And who doesn't want to have great sex?! Thanks, Michael!

He does repeat some of the same things over again, as one annoyed reader said, but I found that to be important because people forget. If it's an important thought, bring it back up in various chapters in different ways. I read something on page 50, and didn't "really" grasp it until page 150. Once was not enough to achieve the ahhh-haa experience of grasping a new idea/concept/view.

Now granted, I knew a lot of the things in here about the psychology of sex/behind sex, or the changes in the body that affect sexual habits and thoughts, however, I feel it was highly worth reading every word in the book to find out the rest. If someone asked me for advice on an issue, I feel I would be able to give him or her enough info to help them, or guide them in toward the right direction.

If you're looking for a "how to book" with pictures, this isn't for you. If you looking for how to have great sex by understanding the other person, and yourself (yes, yourself), I would recommend it.

2 stars for effort.

The authors main idea appears that be that we (men) are doing it wrong.
Ide say theres a few billion people on the planet today, including all of their departed ancestors that would disagree with that.
Pornography,in his opinion,is one of the main culprits.
The exploition of loose women and well built men with large penises, along with its many lurking fetishistic dangers, are to blame for the failures of society with being unable to properly enjoy ourselves...
Performance anxiety ? Great.
Dont look for life/sex to get easier folks - just try harder !

Pornography is a relatively recent vice that market forces driven by our modern insatiable thirst for 'infotainment' has developed, but sex itself is as old as breathing.
Most young men dont get a proper education on how to deal with the bewildering variety of sexual approaches women expect us to be able to deal with, and without at least some idea gleamed from these B gade efforts they may well fail altogether!
If anything, pornography has helped the last few generations to relax about enjoying orgyistic sex, and unfortuantely the modern conservatives are trying again to put the hedonistic genie back in the 'dirty' bottle. Like the rest of their rhetoric goes- its for our own good!
Stress is another target. Hello? - what isnt stress being blamed for these days???
The frustrations and confusion most men feel with sex, isnt about what to do - its more with the almost random and conflicting responces we get to our efforts from the women in our beds. What works with one woman, doesnt with another....

Read Robin Bakers "Sperm Wars" for the real insight into sex.
What a joke that all of these gurus are making of the worlds greatest game.

A Fascinating Book

Review Date: 2008-06-02
This fascinating book, written by an internist who became interested in hormones twenty-five years ago when his mother died of cancer, unravels many mysteries of human dis-ease. I found it to be clearly written and wonderfully informative.

This book purports that bio-identical hormones, which are hormones created from plants but which are identical to those produced by the human body, have been manufactured for seventy years and can be obtained by prescription from doctors and pharmacies, but -- according to my understanding -- they cannot be patented by pharmaceutical companies because they are natural. For that reason, pharmaceutical companies would prefer that patients go on their synthetic drugs -- the ones the companies stand to make the money on! And even though the natural hormones are much better, people are routinely placed on synthetic hormones and other drugs that just mask the symptoms and can actually make the patient much sicker in the long run.

Dr. Platt explains this in detail in his book, though it seems his main objective is to explain how natural hormones (especially progesterone) can prevent and heal so many of our common afflictions: obesity, cholesterol, diabetes, ADD and ADHD (which, Dr. Platt explains, are caused by hormone imbalance), not to mention "women's issues" such as cramps, post-partum depression, and the like.

I found this book to be most helpful in understanding health issues, as well as the modern medical profession. I highly recommend it.

This book contained excellent information backed up by Dr. Platt's clinical practice of how bio-identical hormone replacement is practical not only for mid-aged women, but also men and how hormones may play a role in depression, ADD, and ADHD in children and adults. I found fascinating information in Dr. Platt's book that I have never found in any other books on bio-identical hormones.

Most doctors in Rochester are presribing drugs like synthroid(and many more with mind/body altering side effects)in stead of Armour/Nature throid or sustained release t-3. Dr. Platt is not just a Anti-Aging doctor he is a patient advocate. He not only informs the reader, he educates and empowers us over our own health.Thank You Dr. Platt for taking the time to share your vast knowledge with us!!!

I have been so impressed by this book that I am ordering a case of them to make sure that every library in my area has a copy! This information is vitally important for everyone to know. I have been looking for answers to my own health concerns for years, and this book answered them. Within the first 10 pages you can feel the passion and knowledge that Dr. Platt has about Bio-Identical Hormone therapy. I am so excited to meet him in person.
Not only did I find answers for myself, but for many of my friends and family. I reccommend this book to anyone who has been trying to find answers to their health concerns for years. Especially those that have had to fight to have a doctor listen to them!
I have been researching this topic for months, and this book is the most inclusive of all hormone related topics. Dr. Platt explains it in a way that is very clear and exciting at the same time. I knew there was a way to address the body without harmful prescription drugs, now Dr. Platt has clarified why!!

I bought two books by Dr. Lee at the same time, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer and WYDMNTYA Menopause. I can't recommend these books highly enough. I would consider myself one of the most educated consumers out there on matters of health, and yet I was just astonished at the amount of crucial information about women and hormones, and artificial hormones, as well as other lifestyle habits which contribute to imbalance and even cancer. I wish I knew this information 30 years ago, 20 years ago 5 years ago. I will help myself and my mother and my daughters with this knowledge. The fact that these books are several years old matters not a whit because most people and most doctors are badly underinformed on this topic.

I have the same thing to say about this book as I did his companion piece, "She Comes First": I LOVE the cover. Using a piece of fruit to represent male genitalia is wonderful, and so well done. Not as pretty as the papaya used in the female version, though. What's between the covers works just as well. It is an insiders version of what constitutes male pleasure, and enables women to participate in that life as well. If one bought both of these books, all it would take to complete a couple's sexual pleasure library would be the new title, Was that an earthquake? The Sensuous Couple's (Flip Over) Guide to Seismic Oral Sex. This is a flip over book that has everything you need to know about cunnilingus in Book One, then flip it over, and you have everything you need to know about fellatio in Book Two. It's like having two books in one.

As a woman known to walk the aisles of bookstores, amused by the endless self-help sex books, I found this book to be utterly refreshing. In my humble opinion, great sex is not found in the pages of the Kama Sutra, in a hundred different sexual positions or in the guidance of former porn stars. But this remarkable book somehow captures the essence of being spectacularly sexual, inherently erotic and madly in love with your partner. I hope that women stop to realize just how important sexuality is to men (and should be to them). If you want to start researching the subject, this book is where you should start. Ian's wife is a LUCKY woman.

The TNT Diet is Really a Personal Trainer
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-18
Before the TNT Diet book came out, I had a subscription to Men's Health. Each issue would introduce a new exercise based on recent research. I liked the exercises, but they appeared one at a time, so I never tried to integrate them into my exercise program. When I received a copy of the book, I was pleasantly surprised that all of the theory and practice had been wedded in one place. However, The TNT Diet went far beyond the magazine exercises. It incorporated nutrition and exercise plans based on the need to lose or gain weight or muscle. There is a "Dynamic Warm-Up" that replaces old style warm-ups and reduces injuries. There is a picture of each exercise with detailed descriptions of how to execute it precisely. The exercise sessions can be completed in 30 minutes, so the busy person can get a full week's training in 90 minutes per week rather than 5 or 6 days per week.

I am 61 years old and am stronger now than when I was in high school or in my twenties. I can feel the strength in my body, particularly because I am exercising safely and efficiently for the first time in my life. It is better than having a personal trainer because all of the information is available to me whenever I want it. I can review nutritional or exercise information without it costing a couple of thousand dollars.

If you are ready to take care of business and finally take control of your health or if you just want to develop super strength in a well developed body in record time, buy the TNT Diet. I have three copies and I don't loan them out.

I have been following the TNT diet and workout program for close to 20 weeks now and I have seen great results. I am 30 years old and I am thinner than I have been in 6 years and probably the strongest I have ever been.

The program is 12 weeks long, but I decided to keep going. I am at the point now where I dont feel the need to strictly follow the diet 7 days a week, yet I am still improving physically (although not losing fat as fast as I was).

Overall this program gave me better results that I ever could have imagined.

Solid diet plan for men or women. Eventually the conventional wisdom of the U.S. will change and people will accept the science as outlined in the TNT and other low-carb diets (actually life styles). But as for me, 40 lbs are gone, going on 19 weeks. (And since I've put on some muscle, even more than 40 lbs of fat have melted away.)

The best "diet" information - EVER!

I have never bothered writing a review before but the quality of information in this book compelled me to finally break the seal.

The "plans" are super easy to follow and the way I felt after only a couple of days told my body this was the real deal. I was able to melt away those last, stubborn 10lbs. of "genetic belly fat" absolutely effortlessly and the funny thing is my workouts got a lot easier than prior to reading this book.

And here's the very best part...I am a migraine sufferer -- several every week...and I have been my entire adult life. In the 4+ weeks since I started on the T.N.T. Diet, I haven't had a single one. Not even the slightest twinge of a migraine coming on. I have been able to throw away all my migraine meds (one script I had cost $100 PER PILL).

I will never again eat in the "traditional" way -- for me, it's T.N.T. for life! Get this book. It WILL change how you feel almost immediately and put you on a path to true fitness with very little effort.

This is truly the best way to live on every level, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Beauty involves every aspect of our being, not just the physical. It is about how we feel about ourselves, within the skin. Being a sunfoodist, you come to love yourself. This book is a good start for those who are not yet on the raw food path, as you will come to realize the truth behind natural healing. They really work!!! May you find inspiration in this book that will lead you to become a raw (sun) foodist.

If you are serious about clean food and what it can do for you, this is a GREAT book. Eating raw is a powerful way to get "the glow"... and David Wolfe delivers both information and recipes plus facts to back up his stuff. I'm pretty hard core about what I eat, and this isn't a "fluff" book... great for the serious raw foodie who wants to understand WHY raw is better.

A Very Complete Resource

This book is perhaps the most complete reference I've used to orient myself to the nature of the disease of Prostate Cancer. Naturally a tad biased to the surgical solution (Dr Scardino is one of the highest rated Prostate Surgeons in the country), it delivers a wealth of information. Knowledge is power, and if you or a loved one have Prostate Cancer, you owe it to yourselves to read this book, and to research the topic in depth.

A must read for those with prostate cancer

After receiving treatment for prostate cancer, my husband had a lot of questions about side effects and if they were ever going away. His doctors were helpful and he searched the Internet and read everything he could, but he still had a lot of questions.

When this book came up on a search, I ordered it for him and we were surprised at how much information it contains. We have both learned a lot and would recommend it to anyone who has a lot of questions about prostate cancer or questions about how the prostate works.

Very precise, easy to understand information about the prostate, urinary function and cancer. Also informative as far as treatment options for BPH and prostate cancer. We found that our doctor followed most of the information in this book. Anyone with prostate problems or problems with urinary function due to prostate enlargement and/or cancer, should read this book.

I was recommended to read this book by another eminent urologist who said it was the best book available on this subject. It covered everything one needs to know very thoroughly and I was very satisfied with the quality of information included.

This is the most comprehensive and understandable review of prostate issues I have read. With the information in Dr. Scardino's book, any man will be able to ask more pertinent questions and participate more knowledgeably in the therapy and treatment of prostate problems.

Really captures a broad range of men's fantasies, good psychological conent too.

I am a personal growth coach who sometimes works in the area of sexuality. Typically, the clients that come to me with shame about their fantasies are women and often I recommend some of Nancy Friday's books about women's fantasies. This book is different because it focuses on men's fantasies and as such, it is a useful lens for women into male sexuality and the different shapes it can take.

The content of this book is more graphic than Nancy Friday's other books. Some of the fantasies are extremely graphic and some might say rather unusual. In other words, you are going to read about some unusual practices and kinks. On the other hand, it captures the nature of the male's fascination for highly visual, genitally stimulating and sometimes extreme sexual practices. I thought I heard it all before, but there were some shockers in here for me!

If you are looking for erotica written by males, this is a good place to start. What I like most about the book is the psychological interpretations of various men's fantasies. While I don't necessarily agree with Nancy Friday's line of thought some of the time, her interpretations are creative and in most cases plausible. Her narrative is certainly thought provoking and I like the fact she brought sexual fantasy out of the realm of shame and guilt.

A great book that explains the psychology of sexual fantasy is YOUR EROTIC MIND by Jack Morin. You may find this a very useful read if you are trying to understand your own or other people's fantasies in an in-depth way. Also, a good general book on our sexual proclivities based on evolutionary biology is THE EVOLUTION OF DESIRE by David Buss.

You got to read this book.

I found this book to be very intersting for it touches into many aspects of everyday life. Read it for fun cause I thought it was interesting. In to fantasies or fetishes, this book has them all. The cost on amazon is much better then local bookstores too.

hung up on mother/father relationship

I bought this book based on the other reviewers comments and read through the whole book. I usually have an open mind, but this was a tough read for me. Of all of the fantasies in the book, I only aligned with at most one of them -- or a few brief parts of 2 or 3.

The author seems to be fixated on the relationship between sons and monthers; with the father being the competition for the mother's attention (in the son's view). Anyway, that's the author's explanation for most of the chapters.

I'm not going to debate the author's point, which on the surface would seem to imply that a single-monther household with only one son would be "ideal", but both the author and I agree that this would not be "ideal".

Anyway, enough of that and on to the book. The author has gathered up numerous letters from men that were submitted. The submittal process was fairly random: if readers saw a request at the end of her previous book for women, or in brief blurbs in a couple of print advertisements. So it seems that the people who would see these requests for input are a small subset of the population, and of those only a small fraction would actually write a letter. So if you take this book as a conpendum of fantasies from a fringe of society, then you'll start reading the book with the correct mindset.

I'm a little unsure as to how to comment on this book, but I felt compelled to do so because the other reviewers left out something that I would appreciate knowing. So here's a summary of the book:

1. sons love their mothers, and feel "separated" from them.
2. fathers compete for mothers' affections (i.e. son goes to his room at night and father goes in with mother).
3. the chapters are grouped "sort of" by subject area. But there is no clear reason to the ordering of the chapters.
4. there appears to be little editing of the letters composing the chapters. The author even says that she was hesitant to edit the letters.
5. the format of each chapter is usualy a couple of letters, then some commentary, then a couple more letters.
6. the author attempts to portray the letters as a broad swath of society, however from the letters it appears that many of the men writing over 18 have failed marriages or previous marriages (and are on #2 or #3). In counting up the letters, the divorce rate amongst the letter writers is significantly higher than the US national average (currently at 40% per capita according to divorcereform.org) for those letter writers above 18. The author's own statistics on this in the beginning of the book are misleading because she counts remarried the same as married (this, not divorced).

On the whole, I didn't get much out of this book. I was expecting something that would put some of my fantasies in context, or give me cool ideas for some fantasies to fantasize about. But in the end I had trouble relating to this book and chunked it.

Men's deepest fantasies with absolutely no judgements!

This book was a very good read! I enjoyed reading about what men like and fantasize about, even without agreeing with them on every one.

I found this book on a drug store shelf at the tender age of 14. At the time I was very into romance novels and thought this a romance novel written by a man. I had the book for some time before my mom found it and flipped out.

To say the least, I found it enlightening. In a weird way it put my fascination with the opposite sex in perspective. With a better understanding of men came a confidence in myself I hadn't had before. There is a lot a young woman can learn from this book. (An older woman too! I found my copy of the book in my mom's bedside drawer several years later!)
