Daryl Paulson's book, "Walking The Point" is an amazing accounting of not just his personal experiences
in Vietnam, but also a book that covers every aspect of what our Vietnam brothers faced,
during the war and their fight to finally come home. It is an absolute must read for all Vietnam Veterans, male and female alike. While, deeply emotional, it contains some of the most compassionate language yet to be incorporated in any book of its kind. This is a book not just for the Vietnam Veteran. But, also for their loved ones and families. Once read, this book will stay in your heart forever and is a wonderful "Welcome Home" for
all of our Vietnam Veterans.

How sad that this beautiful, important collection of stories is already out of print, having only been published in 1995. With such "important" writers as Susan Sontag and Paul Monette and David Leavitt as contributors, this compilation is one that must be read and savored. The title refers, obviously, to the way that AIDS has forced itself into the daily lives of all of us. Who among us does not know someone who is now ill or who has already died of this disease? In point of fact, several of the writers in this volume are dead. But the volume is not a polemic. It is a wonderful, moving, at times funny, entertaining collection. My personal favorite is "In The Gloaming" by a writer I had previously never encountered: Alice Elliott Dark. Write to Citadel Press and get this book re-printed. A portion of its sale is donated to AMFAR and a program to help writers with HIV/AIDS.

I read When a Man Turns Forty by Curtis Pesmen a little after my fortieth birthday last year. As I approach my forty-first birthday, I just might read it again.

Over all, Pesmen gives some very practical advice and addresses many subjects that all of us at this age start thinking about.

Chapter topics include a general look at turning forty, a chapter on women and what forty means to them, marriage issues, body issues such as changes in hair, skin, eyes, etc., fitness and food, sex issues including sexual health, family matters, financial matters and security, and then a view from turning fifty.

Some of us want to ignore the aging process. Unfortunately, time keeps marching on, and no matter how hard we try, we age. And with age, certain things need to be addressed. This book does exactly that.

Personally, I didn't want to turn forty, and I'm not eager for my next birthdays. As a martial artist and someone who has always been extremely active, I find it takes a little longer to heal these days and I have aches and pains that I don't remember having 20 years ago. I also feel the pressures of my job, pressures of family life, and the little voices that sometimes say "what if?" This book was enlightening to read and see how others handled the same issues and the stories of midlife pauses rather than what the author calls the overused midlife crisis gave me things to think about as I face the same things or prepare to face them.

We can't stop aging, so we might as well enjoy the journey. This book has some practical wisdom to help you do just that. I recommend this book to anyone who has hit that midlife mark and is wondering just what it is all about.

This book allows men to understand that they are not alone in their feelings about their relationships. Because we do not, or will not, reveal our inner thoughts about our intimate relationships to other men, and especially to women, we often feel isolated and bewildered. By the use of real examples, French shows us a range of causes and effects which serve as viable examples for putting our feelings in perspective. I imagine, as well, that it will give women an insight into the male psyche and emotional center. How very useful these examples can be for all men struggling with themselves within and without intimate relationships.

Despite its title, A Women's Guide To Men's Health by Abraham Harvey Kryger, MD, DMD (a board-certified family practitioner in full time practice) is an invaluable guide for both genders. Focusing especially on issues of male health, happiness, hormones, vigor, and sexuality, A Women's Guide To Men's Health goes into detail about everything from ways to improve the male sex life at all stages of life, to the perils of taking hormones unless deliberately prescribed for a specific medical condition, testosterone's role in [..] size, and much more. Written lay reader-friendly terms, A Women's Guide To Men's Health discusses sensitive sexual subjects with candor and decorum, and is highly recommended.

At last a book that answers many of the questions men are often too afraid or embarrassed to ask!
I found this book very informative and as opposed to the majority of books on the subject of men's health, an easy read. The use of every day language and sayings provide a humorous and relatable background, while the underlying medical facts are most interesting (and also dispel a few common myths about the subject).
I recommend this book for anyone with or interested in the subject.

I like the occasional humorous burst and the smart comments here and there, but honestly, the tricks that are used in this "auto-biography" are a little extreme. I grabbed this book based off of a friend's recommendation for it being a good read of a different flavor and often times offering a comical approach and a certain "wow" factor of the author's transformation to a pick-up artist. About sex my favorite book is Sex and the Perfect Lover: Tao, Tantra, and the Kama Sutra

Will change your view of nerds forever. Fascinating!

What a great read "The Game" is! I was enthralled, fascinated, repulsed, amused, embarrassed, nauseated and impressed - all at the same time!!

Neil Strauss, writer and self-confessed loser in love takes on the challenge of transforming himself into not just a PUA (Pick Up Artist), but an MPUA (Master Pick Up Artist). Using the alias Style, Strauss sets out to learn the secrets of luring HB's (Hot Babes) into bed from the current masters of the game. There's Mystery, an illusionist-cum-pick up artist- genius, who teaches the Mystery Method of Seduction; there's David D'Angelo, who teaches the Cocky-Funny method; the legendary Steve P, an acknowledged master of the game, and a slew of other experts, who specialise in turning awkward, luckless nerds into chick magnets.

As a woman reading this, I was fascinated by the whole subculture of PUA's, their websites, their field reports, their group houses and most of all, their special lingo. It is quite remarkable that they have evolved an extensive list of acronyms and terms which they use to talk to each other about "The Game". I had no idea that something like this existed and it never have occurred to me that men agonise to such an extreme extent over their abillity (or lack thereof) of attracting women. Are PUA methods creepy and flat-out manipulative? You bet they are!! No stone has been left unturned by these self-styled seduction gurus to find the ultimate way to charm a Hot Babe into bed. They have adapted principles of neurolinguistic programming, hypnosis, backhanded insults, cold shoulder tactics, blatant lying and other subversive forms of psychological manipulation to hunt down all willing females. I was blown away by this first-hand account of such an amazing, unknown till now, subculture.

Neil Strauss aka Style, is a wonderful writer who is consistently amusing whilst giving a serious and truthful account of his two-year adventure as a loser in love turned Master PUA. I found his insights into women credible and insightful and he comes across as someone I would have loved to date myself! He is intelligent, articulate, funny and adorable! His descriptions of the current Pick Up Artist gurus and their army of adoring acolytes is hilarious and tragic-comic by turns.

I highly recommend "The Game" to one and all. It is a marvellous insight into an underbelly of the singles/dating scene that I had no idea existed. I promise that reading it is the most fun you'll have with your clothes on this year!

All in all a fun game

I picked up this book along with Strauss' sequal how to book(s) "The Rules of the Game" with the intention of learning the secrets of the much discussed topic of this book, PUAs (otherwise known as Pickup Artists). What I got was something entirely different. This book is more or less Strauss' diary of events when he emersed himself into the PUA lifestyle. I was really suprised at the humor that Strauss directs at himself and his fellow nerdy PUAs who have turned socializing into something that seems more like computer programming. The terminology alone that these guys use really shows you what kind of life the majority of these guys lived before becoming PUAs (for the majority I envision nerdy computer programmers).
The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is because I did a little research on the internet after reading this book and one of the main characters named Extramask (who is actually now a comedian named Barry Kirkey) stated that Strauss never met him in person or went to the seminars with him like is described in the book. If that is true than all I can say is that I am deeply disappointed as Extramask a.k.a Barry, was one of the funniest people that I have ever read about and I would lose a lot of respect if Neil actually just wrote down what people told him about Barry.
What's funny though is after reading this I don't think I would ever want to be a PUA. The majority of these guys are very superficial and are looking for superficial women to validate themselves. Still, I would recommend it to a friend, who would learn a thing or two about the community and get a good chuckle every chapter.

This is one of the best books I've ever read, both because Neil is an amazing author, but also because of the science it talks about. I've learned more about human sociology and psychology since reading the book than at any other time in my life. As mystery says so often, this isn't about picking up girls, but becoming better men. As a result, women are attracted but to get their you have to become a better person.

The stories in the book are hilarious, exciting, and make you want to read the book in one sitting.

After watching a few episodes of the reality TV show The Pickup Artist, I decided to buy this book. I bought this one instead of Mystery's Method because Strauss wrote Jenna Jameson's autobiography which is in my mind excellent credentials. Still, my expectations were not really that high and I anticipated nothing more than a book filled with pickup lines or some sort of humorous dating guide. But The Game is much more than that. For starters, it reads like a story and has a fascinating plot and a diverse range of characters. Mystery is by far the most interesting character, but most of the other pickup artists are also entertaining to read about. The book begins with the author meeting Mystery and being introduced to a world he did not know existed, a place where guys without handsome looks or fat wallets can pickup hot women through technique and seduction. Mr. Strauss sets off on a journey where he transforms himself from a geeky writer to become one of the most talented pickup artists in the business. One of my favorite messages in the book is, "Don't be yourself, be your best self." This means you don't have to change who you are to pickup women, but you have to be willing to maximize your potential. This book is a great read and one that I will read again many times.

How to find happiness in a dismal situation

Review Date: 2008-05-18
I bought this book because I was searching for yet another book on workplace bullying and another book came up in my search based on Frankl's book. I read the customer reviews on that book and one reviewer said something to the effect of, "If you want to read a book based on Viktor Frankl's opinion of how to get along at a bad work environment (like a Nazi death camp), why don't you just read Frankl's book?" So, that's where I started. I read it. Twice. Then I got out my computer and typed in passages that had meaning to me so I could re-read them during difficult times. I compressed the entire book down to about 10 pages, single spaced. I must admit that I consider myself a negative, often depressed sort of person, mostly because my work situation is so demoralizing. I was amazed by Frankl's coping mechanisms on how to get along in a difficult situation; every day meant multiple incidents of having to choose the correct path to avoid death or worse, making the choice to give up on your own life (suicide). He went through 5 years of that and lived to tell about it. It is a must read for everyone, particularly when you are having the hardest time of your life. I could tell that if I had read it as a college student, it wouldn't have the same meaning as now, when I am 50 and have had many ups and downs. I see everything at such a deeper level and appreciated this book so much more than I would have if I were younger. Briefly, the lessons in the book written 50 years ago still apply today. Here they are: Let luck be your guide. It's not what you know, it's who you know. Network with the equivalent of a one-step-up lateral (not your own) middle manager and they will help you when they can. Schmooze. Be kind to others. Don't complain, it doesn't help. You can't fix, deal with or appeal to a sadist, so don't try. Avoid sadists at all costs. Keep your mouth shut unless asked for your opinion and then be short and to the point. Praise, even when praise isn't deserved. Keep criticisms to yourself. Be inconspicuous. Work hard for the sake of doing a good job. Fantasize for escape. Everything can be taken away from you except for your past, so relish in it. When something good happens to you, write it down (keep a gratitude journal). Don't do anything that compromises your own values so you won't have regrets. Be careful who you abuse today because tomorrow they may be your master. You are not your job, your title or your position. You are a unique person loved by others. The only thing in life that really matters is the people you love and the people who love and need you. Love shared is eternal. Treat everyone with respect. The meaning of life is not what life can do for you, but what life expects of you; how you make the world a better place with your presence. The purpose of life is not happiness. The purpose of life is discovering what you can contribute to it. Save a slice of bread (or whatever is the only material thing that matters to you when there is nothing left) for later when you are really depressed and it's the only thing left that can get you through that difficult moment. (For me it's chocolate and a dark beer at the same time.) Apathy is the signaling of the beginning of the end of one's life. Everyone that you respect and look up to has human failings. Even tough guys cry. Suffering without purpose is meaningless. The larger the suffering, the bigger the lesson. There's lots more in the book for you to discover and it's an easy read.

This book is incredibly inspiring, both from a theoretical and practical perspective. I highly recommend it for anyone who is in an "existential vacuum" as Frankl says, or for anyone who just wants to get more ideas about what the "meaning of life" might be.

The book is not only very well laid out and well written, but the content is rich. I highly recommend perusing it with a pen at hand to mark a response to a lot of his statements, then re-reading your own comments with his text... I think you'll learn a lot about yourself that way.

Frankl wrote a brilliant book. The way of his writing is very clear and to the point. There are a lot of psychology terms, but not so many that it makes the book confusing. Frankl looks at the story from an unattached view, and thus he is able to give good, unbiased theories about why things happened. This book made many of the reasons of what happened during the holocaust clearer. It is an enjoyable and informative read.

"Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible." ~ Viktor Frankl from "Man's Search for Meaning"

Viktor Frankl. He's unquestionably one of my heroes and this book is a must read (or re-read as the case may be). If you don't have it yet, it's time to get it. It's impossible to be a serious student of life and not soak up as much Frankl as you can.

The man survived the horrors of Nazi concentration camps and, from that pain, brought the world his "Logotherapy"--a philosophy based on the fundamental precept that we have ultimate responsibility for choosing our responses to any given challenge AND equally powerful responsibility to determine how we will give ourselves to the world and create a truly meaningful life.

My partner is the original John Wayne - to the core. And for him to read a "how to" book on anything just isn't going to happen. Well, he doesn't have a lot of experience in the art of pleasing a woman...you know, cowboys just get on and ride! Well, somehow, he heard about this book and has it ever made a difference. A difference in everything - our level of intimacy, our happiness, everything we do...we are now closer than ever before...and we're both in our 60's!

He first tried some of the techniques without telling me about the book. Well, it was wonderfully obvious to me that something had changed and for the better.

This past weekend, we sat together in bed and he showed me the book and we read exerpts that he had marked together. How wonderful is that! We've laughed and played and we have loved...and after all these years, I am now coming first - and for the first time! How glorious is that!

The book is pretty straight forward and does what it sets out to do, make your women scream while doing the dirty. The first 1/3rd of the book teaches you about the makeup of the happy zone of the women. I thought it was the most interesting part becuase now when i go there i know what all the parts do and what makes them go crazy. the rest of the book is about the technique you learn, which is pretty good, and not the same for all women as you should know. But it lays down the basics of how to build up tension and antisapation which is the key, it's not how fast you want it to go, but how long you can make her hold out. You do learn the proper postions that she should be in, and like men should know but don't..don't follow what's in xxx movies. Not comofortable for her, but i'll leave the rest for you to read. I read and she was curious about it too, it was great for her before i read the book, and it's awesome for now that i read the book.
