The Evolution of Surgical Instruments: An Illustrated History from Ancient Tiems to the Twentieth Century

As an advanced collector of pre-1900 surgical instruments and sets, I have found this text very valuable as a reference and research source. It covers English, European, and American instruments which allows comparative analysis of instruments for identification and dating. Since I specialize in Civil War surgical instruments, I have found the information invaluable in making decisions about instruments which are of Civil War or earlier production and thus correct or incorrect for a given maker or set.

This book, written with the British MRCS exam in mind is a brilliant pocket book for anyone about to sit surgical or orthopaedic clinical exams. It contains a system by system look at clincal examination with explaination of what to look for and why. The pictorial diagrams are easy to understand and go well with the text.

I brought it and passed first time!!

Exploratory Surgery of the Soul teaches one to live life to its fullest. It does this by exploring one's own mental framework (perceptions) and assumptions about life and goes on to show how one can consciously choose to change these belief patterns into something that serves one's self better. One can choose to live and come from a place of love, abundance, and gratitude and thereby live life to its fullest. An exciting book with the power to help you live a life that until now you have only been dreaming of! Easy to read, very practical, and life transforming.

FYI: Her workshops are just as great!

A classic, and invaluable in orthopædic surgery. Unfortunately, you've gotten the title wrong. Should be Extensile Exposure, reflecting the fact that the author's technique allows operative wounds to be extended safely as necessary.

This novel is one of the most harrowing, troubling, yet fascinating reads I've yet to encounter. William Katz proves that he is a fine author. A brilliant artist teams up with a troubled plastic surgery med student and bring new technology and stunning perfection to the faces of world superstars - with a catch. Not to be missed. The ending will startle you. Not for the squeamish but only because the attention to detail about surgical procedures is extreme. Beautifully written, you won't forget this one.

Valuable Text
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-30
This well-arranged book is packed with contributions from eminent spine surgeons ranging from Drs Dreyer, An, Karaikovic & Lenke to Andersson, Albert, DeWald, Bridwell and Gaines. The two editors, leaders in the field of spine surgery themselves, have put together a useful combination of important issues in failed back surgery, implications of failure, clinical & diagnostic approaches and hints on surgical salvage of complicated spine procedures. There is adequate study of the factors leading to failed surgery and many tips on avoiding such complications.

Written in a prose that avoids stifling-academia and over-technicality , the text delivers much advice gained from years of collective surgical experience. Many of the contributors cite well-known peer-reviewed audits, strengthening the value of their opinion.

Notable omissions are issues on disc arthroplasty complications, on sacral insufficency in long instrumented spines and on problems using bone graft substitutes. Sufficient power of analysis must be available through an appropriate pool of patients, a trend of practice and a period of time before these current issues may be discussed and I would expect them to be featured in the next edition.

This book should make US medical services consumers angry
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-27
Lord and group take on a lot of simple things that will never make money, but should always be first in assessing fall risks and arranging prophylactic actions:
Test reaction times...why? because so very many older folks are taking too much medicine and reaction times are extended--AND no one is checking!
Never wear bifocal/trifocals to walk...why? because the focal length is adjusted for 12 to 18 inches, NOT 5 feet, where the step edge or the dropped item is. (the solution is to carry a pair of walking glasses, set at a refractory length of five feet.)
There is a lot here that you won't find in the US med ed system or it's practitioners. It's a great book for fifty year olds to read--for their own futures and for their parents daily lives.
Very highest recommendations
