This small but immensely informative book by Dr. Russell demonstrates the anatomy, function as well as detailed examination techniques for the evaluation of peripheral nerves. The comprehensive diagrams demonstrating the relevant anatomy as well as full color photos (great example on pg 92) showing the proper techniques for the physical exam. This book is an excellent reference for the evaluation of patients with lesions that may be localized to the peripheral nervous system.

This book covers in an expert fashion one of the most severe congental anomalies in infant still compatible with life. While the editors brought colleagues from all over the world to collaborate on this book the strength resides in the chapters from the Hopkins group and their in dept experience with this defect. The chapters on ostoetomy by Dr. Paul D. Sponseller are state of the art reviews of this important adjunct to exstrophy surgery. The chapter of the management of the failed exstrophy was clearly the strongest in the book because of its depth, concise nature and technical guidance for the occasional exstrophy surgeon. All in all a superb text.

This is a very good reference book to have for anyone who has bladder exstrophy. A lot of technical illustrations designed for the advanced medical community, but if read slowly enough it can be digestable.....Dr. Gearhart did an excellant job!!!!

Dr. Henry has written a great book for men and women! This resource answered all of my questions and gave me answers to questions I didn't even know I had! It was extremely helpful...tells the history of cosmetic facial surgery as well as gives insights into emotional and psychological reasons it is "OK" to go ahead with cosmetic procedures. It thoroughly made me aware of all of the various procedures done today as well as what to expect from each one - costs, recovery time, etc. After reading this book I felt very comfortable with the information and am now able to use it to make some decisions about myself. If you are thinking about any type of facial cosmetic surgery, this book is for you!

We all pray that we will never fall victim to painful rectal disorders, but what do we do when our prayers fall flat? I had a 9-year history of excruciatingly painful anal fissures and lesions that was aggravated by a series of parasitic attacks. Not only was my health devastated, but I was too embarrassed to visit the doctor. This book gave me my pride back. The color illustrations were right on the money - I was self-diagnosed as an advanced case of inflamed rectal phlebitus, and I embarked upon a scientific cure based on the information I uncovered in Dr. Henry and Dr. Porter's gem.
No one likes to admit that his or her rectum is malfunctioning. But when it happens, thank God there is this book.

This is a wonderful and highly original novel about a mentally challenged man named Charlie who wanted to be smart. One day, his wish was granted. A group of scientists selected him for an experimental operation that raised his intelligence to genius level. Suddenly, Charlie found himself transformed, and life, as he knew it, changed.
His story is told entirely through Charlie's eyes and perceptions in the form of progress reports. The reader actually sees the change in Charlie take place, as his progress reports become more complex, well written, and filled with the angst of personal discovery and growth, as well as with his gradual awareness of his amazing and accelerated intellectual development.
The progress reports are a wonderful contrivance for facilitating the story, and the reader is one with Charlie on his voyage of self-discovery. What happens to Charlie in the long run is profoundly moving and thought provoking. It is no wonder that this author was the recipient of the Nebula Award, which is given by the Science Fiction Writers of America for having written the Best Novel of the Year. This is definitely a book well worth reading.

This is simply the best source that anyone can find on the mechanics, diagnosis, and conservative treatment of the foot. If you are a chiropractor, podiatrist, pedrothist, orthopedist, etc., you MUST have this book on your shelf. The subject of Foot Orthoses is not a simple one, yet Dr. Michaud does an excellent job of explaining with clear diagrams and illustrations to follow. This book should be mandatory in all schools involved with the subject of foot mechanics and treatment.

It contains recent informations of forhead and temporal anatomy for plastic surgeon and also provides famous procedures of foreheadplasty. Informative photos from cadaver, endoscopy and illustrations are included. Knize's published articles on Journal of plastic & reconstructive surgery regarding this topic are well organized in this book for better understanding. I recommend it.

This book, actually a doctoral dissertation, looks at the world of surgical residency for women of color.
Residency is supposed to be a tough, weeding out process. But female residents have several extra obstacles in their way. Most female doctors are in fields like gynecology or psychiatry. Those who want to become surgeons are encouraged to choose another specialty, because surgery is "too hard." Any patient complication will be looked at especially closely. Role models are rare; the number of female surgeons is tiny, while the number of black female surgeons is practically zero.
Since surgery is very much a male-dominated field, there is the usual obstacle of women having to work twice as hard to be considered half as good. Residency does not teach a person how to keep their humanity (which some surgeons have totally lost); what to say to a family whose loved one has just been declared dead (suppressing their femininity).
This book looks at the personal experiences of several black female surgeons. Their residency experiences, whether at predominantly white or black institutions, ranged from difficult to very difficult.
Even though this is a doctoral dissertation, it is clearly written, easy to read, and worth reading. The next time a loved one is in the hospital, and the doctor is a woman, just remember that she probably is experiencing, or has experienced, the things mentioned in this book.

This book is a great look into the experiences black women have as the vast minority in surgical residency. It is very well written and is full of rich writing and emotion. There is no parallel, especially as it is a topic that is not widely known about. This is a great book.

This is an excellent book to get you started (and keep you going!)in your plastic surgery rotation, it has all the basic principles supported with diagrams and clinical applications - and best of all it's very easy to read. The earlier editions have a chapter on Maxillofacial injuries, which has been omitted this time around. I just photocopied the chapter from an earlier edition!
I highly recommend this to all prospective surgeons- whatever your field of specialty.
