Truly a superb work of detailed analysis and fact. Dr. Feinberg's astute knowledge of his subject matter makes this work an impressive necessity for any bookshelf for all professionals and those, like myself who are personal injury attorneys, to be able to understand neurological function and disorder. Bravo!

An excellent up-to-date text

Feinberg and Farah have edited a clear, comprehensive text for those interested in the neurological side of neuropsychology. If you want just one neuropsych. book - this is it! Including all the basics together with some areas seldom covered in texts of this type, well illustrated, and without obfuscation, this book discusses many disorders, syndromes and mental functions; the etiology of disorders, the history and rationale underlying models and testing. Suitable for the graduate student or professional neuropsychologist, and attractively produced. Well worth the price

I'm so glad that I took the time to read this book!! I went into my consultation with Dr. Tebbetts so well prepared. If there is any question you have ever had about breast augmentation, this is the place to find the answers. Everything you could ever need to know about this procedure is in this book!!! It will help you look at all sides of the question of whether this is the right procedure for you, if it will give you what you are expecting it to give you, and what to expect from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book to anyone considering breast augmentation!

I am a plastic surgeon who does a lot of breast augmentation, so it is with some authority that I can say that Dr. Tebbetts has contributed more to breast augmentation than any other plastic surgeon in the world. Do a search for scientific articles on breast augmentation, and his name comes up more than all other plastic surgeons combined!

In The Best Breast 2, he distills and translates those articles into understandable English for patients. I ask all of my patients to read it before their consultation.

They say it is a quick read and easy to understand. They all comment that the book is organized intuitively, with important subjects written in bold. Though it has a lot of information, the prose is succinct and can be read quickly. At times it seems repetitive, but I suppose that is necessary so that the chapters can be read independently of one another. Also, the repeated information is critical for patients to know, so it is probably good that certain points are emphasized.

When patients read it before their consultation, the visit is very sophisticated and highly productive. The Best Breast 2 fully informs them about each of the choices that they will need to make about their surgery. I am thrilled when I do a consultation with someone who has read The Best Breast, as we can have a discussion on a very high level, and spend our time discussing the important subjects as well as subtle nuances that are possible with the surgery. I don't have to waste everyone's time correcting common misunderstandings, and the patients know the important issues upon which to focus, the critical decision they have to make, and always ask the most insightful questions.

These patients make better decisions about their surgery. Better decisions means a better operation, less pain, faster recovery, and a better likelihood of having the long-term result that they wanted.

No book or website holds a candle to the quality and presentation of the material in The Best Breast 2.

If "All philosophy is a footnote to Plato," and "All psychology is a footnote to Freud," then "All that is known about breast augmentation is a footnote to Tebbetts." Let the doctors peruse his original scientific papers, but if you read The Best Breast 2, you'll understand breast augmentation better than 99% of plastic surgeons.

To share his personnel battle and thoughts during his struggles with epilepsy..Stuart managed to keep his sense of humor and strength. His emotional journey is one of the most realistic, detailed trips involving a fight against an illness I was unfamiliar with. I had to read his story twice as we all miss things the first time around. He is a man of determination, yet humble in his battle. The book at the same time is a love story, between he and his wife, Lisa. I believe if not for her strength and love, this book may not be here to educate and give us strength in battle against medical odds. I experienced sorrow, as well humor in this wonderful book. I recommend "Beyond My Control" to any person battling medical issues, and to any person in need of a little strength. This book is a Hoozey!!

Thank you Stuart, for sharing a deep meaning personnel journey of strength and love. Carol

I found this book fascinating. It is amazing that while trying to recover from brain surgery to be cured from epilepsy, a secondary condition can develop (depression) which is also a huge hurdle to get over. How the human brain is so vulnerable. This book is a very honest account of the authors struggles with both conditions which brought up some deep underlying emotion for me. I wish the author and his family all the best. Carolyn (New Jersey)

The authors Whiting and Zernicke are to be congratulated for this high-quality reference book. As someone who testifies often in civil litigation cases regarding the physical mechanics of motor vehicle and premises accidents and the associated mechanisms of human injury, I found this book to be a superb addition to my technical library. For the uninitiated in injury mechanics, it begins impressively with a low-gear, historical, and introductory manner, and takes the reader though many basic mechanical concepts. The book then covers a wide assortment of human injuries and their causal mechanisms. I observed that the book is very well-formated with titles, sub-titles, text, add-in framed articles, effective anatomical line drawings, and illustrative photographs. While the book is technical in nature, I noted that it was written to be appreciated by those outside the technical area of injury biomechanics. I readily recommend this book to anyone interested in the mechanisms of human injury.

As an AVM patient myself having gone through and surviving 2 brain hemorrhages, and 2 surgeries, life with an AVM is a lifelong rollercoaster ride that you can never get off of...it is both physically and emotionally devistating!
This book had a tremendous impact on my life reading it years ago, one that was life-changing and one that introduced me to many other AVM patients - 2 of these wonderful people are my friends for life...

This book is the book to read for anyone who has had brain surgre or has epilepsy. It is touching, poignant, and filled with information, from the surgeon's point of view and also from the patient's. Plus it's written as well as a good novel.

VALUABLE RESOURCE EVERYONE IN A BMT GROUP!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-05
The raison d'etre given for this new publication by its authors and publishers is to provide a concise monograph for doctors in training, information, for medical students, paramedical professionals, house-staff and practicing physicians-to say nothing about the nurses and technologists who make up the standard multi-disciplinary transplant group.

The contents of this book are current, authoritative, critically referenced and cover all the recognized aspects of these procedures, with many valuable comments that include a brief history of the topic, design of the transplantation unit, assessment of donors and eventually moving on to provide data that include results in each of the disease categories.

It is seldom that one can recommend, without reservation, widespread use and it is confidently predicted that the audience for whom the monograph is written will find this a valuable resource.

This is a wonderful, concise text that covers a great deal of clinically useful information. I have almost every book published on stem cell transplantation and this is one of the best for its size and price. I recommend it for anyone in the transplant field. Whether you're new to the field or experienced, you'll find this to be a valuable reference.

I am a surgical resident with a particular interest in breast surgery. This is an excellent book. It is both comprehensive and readable. Dr. Roses' discussion of technical aspects of axillary dissection and mastectomy are superior to any I have seen in print.

This is, however, much more than a surgical text. It is a broad-based resource on the disease and its management that will appeal to readers in a number of disciplines.

Masterful survey of most relevant topcis in the field

Don't let the price tag scare you; you are not likely to find a more comprehensive, readable, and downright authoritative list of critical information on breast cancer.

The general topics cover: (1) the genetic basis of breast cancer, (2) the pathology of breast cancer, (3) breast cancer diagnosis (biopsy, radiology), (4) tumor staging, (5) cancer treatment (drugs, surgery, locally advanced, (6) metastatic cancer management, (7) special issues (pregnancy, male breast cancer), and (8) psychological issues. Each chapter is written in the form of questions followed by an explanation. For example, on the chapter dealing with the ongenetic basis of cancer, the author has question headings such as "what are oncogenes," "what are tumor suppressor genes," "what causes genomic instability," and "how does the BRCA2 gene function," to name a few. Copious references accompany each chapter.

In all, this is the perfect book for many in the field of breast cancer, in research, medicine, and even for activists. There is enough detail for anyone with a science background to get enough information (plus the references) to understand most important topics in the field. The book might be a bit intimidating for those without a research or medical background, so for some new to the field Id recommend perhaps Susan Loves' Breast Book first for you. Experts might find the discussions a bit simple, but the sheer breadth of the topics still makes this an essential book for you too.

I am actually a physicist who does research in breast cancer. This is the perfect text for people in a similar situation. If you give this book a fair shake, you will be able to understand most topics in the literature or in conferences.

The book holds nearly 500 pages and the text is supported by plenty of usefull illustrations and tables. It covers pacing therapy and the indications for internal defibrillators. Although the space is limited you will find a good discussion of details such as venous access and the various causes of cardiac syncope. The text often gives a historic perspective on the use of leads and generators and it is generally well written. It can be recommended for the clinical cardiologist who is not specially trained in electrophysiology but who needs a better understanding of modern pacing therapy. It is allways a problem to by books on a subject that changes so very fast. But if you need a survey this is the best way to do it. This book deserves to be read accordingly. It is a very nice book.
