This is the standard by which most other Cardiology board review texts are measured. This new version is not as readable in my opinion as its previous version. The whole reason I bought it was to avoid the Brunwauld-esque style, but alas I think this text book is becoming like the Braunwald text which certainly is not a review book. On the other hand, the ECG section in outline format was too bare bones. All in all, not the greatest review book in the world but not too many viable alternatives when trying to review for Cardiology Boards. I guess it's the only game in town.

I bought this book as a resident transitioning into a cardiology fellowship. The content is between a board review book and a more comprehensive text, i.e. Braunwald. It is an excellent resource for a focused, yet thorough, review of most cardiology topics.
Strenghts are that it is very readable, has key points emphasized in outline format throughout text, is sufficiently detailed to learn a topic relatively well, has pertinent cardiology trials integrated into the text, and a nice very focused key point review at the end for last minute board prep.
One con is that there are no references to journal articles for more detailed reading.
I would recommend this book to any resident wanting a good cardiogy text or for fellows in training. Also a nice review for practicing cardiologists.

Excellent resource book that is written clearly enough for people who are not necessarily medically trained. Reading the chapter on my own heart condition allowed me to have a great conversation with my cardiologist that went beyond the usual "this is what you have, take these pills, see me again in 6 months....". This book is great!

Very good review for Cardiology Boards. Not necessarily an easy read but the review books which are as such tend to be too simple. This is probably a good happy medium between the quickie review books and a Braunwald's

Another great book. Bill's writing consistently gets better. I anxiously await the release of Replica. I recently learned that a few of Bill's books are being reproduced into audio format, which are expected to be released in late summer 2008. He is surely someone to watch for, as he gains popularity daily.

Medicine Cup is So Well Written, A "Can't Put It Down" work of art
This is my favorite book of all the ones Bill has written(so far). I read it in one afternoon on the beaches of Mexico. It'll have you on the edge of your seat. My favorite part is when he is in the jungles of the Amazon. You could almost reach out and touch the thick, green, lush plants, but beware beneath the murky waters, you may end up on the menu. It is full of suspense and chilling happening on every page. I just couldn't wait to turn the pages. The mad scientist and all his evil doing to stay young, the love interests, the innocent sacrifices that had to be made in order to live on in this life. I could go on and on but pick up the book and I promise you, you won't be disppointed in this thrilling, so well written medical thriller. Eagerly awaiting REPLICA!!!!!!!! Keep them coming Bill - I believe Bill will be our number 1 "Medical Thriller" writer if he keeps this up. He's well on his way!!!!!!!

I was so impressed with this little book that I bought copies for several friends. Stuart's definitely "out there" but if you're able to trust your gut and suspend your preconceptions and conditioning, then the straight-to-the-point, no-fuss statements and action plans are fantastic. I've read many more garrulous books along similar lines but got much more out of the 52-page "Miracles", including one of my life's greatest "Ah ha!" moments. If only for that, it gets five stars.

I bought this for my Mom for Christmas and i stole it for myself. I was reading through it before i wrapped it for her and it was too amazing to give away. The information is fantastic and it is very straight forward and easy to understand. I wish the author's practice wasn't in Hawaii so i could get in to see her, she is amazing. I highly recommend this to anyone who is tired of the endless cycles of medicines and feeling terrible, it is a release from modern medicine and a breath of fresh air.

Natural Choices for Women's Health is a must have reference for all women. This book details a very complete list of common female health issues including everything from anxiety and breast cancer through fatigue and hot flashes to PMS and weight gain. In each of these cases, this book gives the reader ideas on what she can do to help alleviate these issues as well as medical resources available for dealing with these conditions.
Though I found these aspects helpful and appealing, the part of this book I was most impressed with was the assessment of health issues according to the five elements. At first, I thought that figuring out my element type was just a bit of fun, rather like determining my star sign. However, once I found my element type I started to realize the significance of this very important information. It seems that certain element types are more or less prone to certain afflictions. Moreover, the ways to treat imbalances need to be tailored to suit the person's element type.
My element type and associated health issues were dead on describing me in amazing detail, giving me tremendous insight into myself as well as health and medical information that I could actually use to make myself feel better.

I saw this book recently on CNN and heard the author talking about it. I bought the book and must say I was not disappointed. This is just a fantastic book. It really delves into areas of natural health that other books on the topic just don't cover. For instance the area of breast health for women or the part about the health of the pelvis. There's just nothing out there that does such a fantastic job covering women's health as this book does. I am getting a tremendous amount out of this book. I give it an A plus, ten stars.

I first read about this book in a women's magazine. Several ailments were described and I tried the one where it was recommended to take Withanolides for Insomnia. I went and got the herb and the product that they talked about at my local Vitamin Shoppe store and that stuff really works!! I have tried several well known herbs who are suppossed to relax you and make you sleep better but this one is really the best. After that I bought the book and it's great. It's an easy read and gives Chinese medicine the attention it deserves. I recommend this book to everyone.

While this book seems largely unknown in the Reiki community, it is a most wonderful resource. It really does help understand the process of living in the moment and feeling the energetic effects of simply being.
The author describes the journey that this book represents not as being a "how-to" guide for Reiki, but as a "why-to." Narrin truly feels that Reiki cannot be adequately described, and therefore she leaves that to the reader to find their own Reiki experience. Thus, the book is left to be a journey into understanding the tangible, real-life benefits of approaching life holistically and with intention.
I strongly reccomend this book to everyone, not just Reiki practitioners. It will honestly enrich our human experience. Jus the author's personal story related in the book is wonderful, and it is so nice to see a Reiki book that isn't regurgitating the same information as every other.

I tried using one of the plant energy experiments on a dead Dogwood tree in our front yard that was killed by lightning over twenty years ago and within four weeks of using the twenty minutes worth of Reiki energy on the dead tree stump, there appeared four new sprouts right beside the stump that were little Dogwood trees.
In the back of the book there is a personal journal for a month worth of your energy healing and journal to learn if you are actually living in the moment being aware and grounded or spending the majority of your day zoned out on other things like daydreaming/ worry Etc...

After reading and studing this book, I have found that the insights Janeanne Narrin brings, along with the "ways" to learn about, and get into contact with this energy bring to life something we all "know" exists. It allows us to step by step tune in and tune up!..
Good reading, and a better study guide.... much "fuller" than any other I have studied...I recommend highly and am hoping Janeanne creates a sequal ...

I love the attention to detail and the beautiful artwork that this book contains. The layout is well done and I find it causes me to be drawn into the text. The exercises are interesting and unique to most Reiki books. Her descriptions make the practice of Reiki easy to understand and the drawings are helpful. The storys add interest and give a refreshing perspective. Certainly a lot of thought has been given to the creation of this very useful Reiki book.

My goal in learning about Reiki is similar: to transform my life through new methods AND new perspectives, which her book helps me do. I would highly recommmend this to anyone who is new to Reiki and is looking for a CONTEXT of Reiki in their life's pursuits.

What a terrific resource this book is! This book is a comprehensive compendium of facts regarding herbal solutions. It is written in an easy to read style. To often today folks reach for the next "best" pharmaceutical when often a less expensive, less dangerous and sometimes more efficient solution can be found in nature. This book is a good guide for those willing to step outside of western medical mind-set.

Alan Tillotson is an experienced herbalist and independent thinker whose One Earth Herbal Sourcebook is useful for professionals and educated consumers alike. Trained extensively in Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine in Nepal, Tillotson draws upon a sophisticated herbal repertoire in dealing with MS, opthalmologic conditions, hepatitis C, diabetes and allergic rhinitis. He uses the best of Chinese, Ayurvedic and western herbs in protocols that are practical and effective. Written with humor and intelligence, the book is over 600 pages of useful herbal and nutritional advice. This is one of the better books of herbal medicine I own.

The Oxford Handbook of Tropical Medicine is a great book, as the other reviewers have stated. There is one reason why it stands out, and that is its physical construction. The paper is very thin (like a bible), and the writing is microscopic (good for traveling). The cover is tough plastic, and it is crammed with great reference material. If you've made it to this review, you should buy this book even if you aren't a doctor. If you're going to a developing country (where English is spoken) it would make a wonderful gift for the local doctor or nurse (many of whom are forced to consult 20 year old smeared photocopies of photocopies of out of date textbooks for their clinical information).

I recently spent some time in a small, rural clinic in sub-saharan Africa, and this book was by far the most useful tool I had. This is not at all a book on disease theory or etiology - it is purely practical. Concisely, what to suspect, how to diagnosis, and how to treat (e.g., step-by-step instructions on how to Giemsa stain a blood smear). One feature I especially appreciated was how this book doesn't make any assumptions about what diagnostic tools you have available; it explains how to best make decisions both with and without radiology, bacterial cultures, etc. The size of this book of course precludes certain information, the incorporation and discussion of WHO treatment guidelines is incredibly valuable.

I had this book among several others while working in rural Uganda. I quickly forgot the other texts and had this stuffed in my back pocket on the wards and going for housecalls. I'm an internist, so when a measles outbreak started I really appreciated the great section on managing this disease. This text contains the essentials for all aspects of medicine in tropical, resource-poor settings as well as great nutritional information. I will bring this book whenever when workng abroad.

Shojai interviewed nearly 100 experts for the 315-page book, including many members of American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), and other speciality colleges. Chapters discuss how modern medicine builds on past success; the way veterinarins are trained; advances in diagnostic tools, medications and surgery; how research studies work; and what questions to ask and where to find specialists (or research trials) to meet the needs of your dog or cat. An A-to-Z guide of a wide range of conditions is listed. The book also includes inspirational true stories of dogs and cats that have benefited from today's most innovative treatments.

Here is an up-to-date reference book covering modern veterinary care. More than a hundred veterinarians, among them quite a few from Penn, explain many health and behavior conditions, arranged alphabetically . . . The appendix lists veterinary colleges in the United States and their websites. A specialist has completed additional training and is a "Diplomate" of a veterinary specialty college. The appendix gives contact information. The human-animal bond brings up ethical questions, which are thoughtfully covered. . . The difficult subject of genetics is briefly covered. This book covers many advances in veterinary medicine and shows you how to take advantage of them. It's a worthwhile addition to the library of dog and cat owners.

This book is a must for any pet owner. I have an extensive collection of pet health books, and most of them do not contain the new, state-of-the-art medical and technological options that this one does. In addition to the newest information available, the book is inspiring for any pet owner facing illness, as various treatment options are easily explained in detail. It is also a terrific book to review before a veterinary visit so appropriate issues and questions can be addressed.

This is the most informative book I have seen on eye care and improvement. I notice an improvement in 4 weeks, but have much further to go.

The information is presented in a very clear, well-organized, and succinct way. The instructions for the exercises are very clear and thorough. I especially like the "What to Watch For" and "Notes" sections for each exercise. I feel like it's hard not to do these exercises correctly with all the notes and observations the author adds. The testimonials at the beginning and the introductory chapters really gave me hope and enthusiasm in this program. I just started the program, but I feel this book will have been valuable even if I do not see improvement in the "First Stage" of the program.
The "First Stage" is only 8 weeks, with a simple exercise for each day. Eight weeks is quite a short time considering how long it took for some of our vision to have deteriorated this much. The exercises taught seem like they should be helpful in the prevention of my worsening nearsightedness, if not improvement.
I read through the non-exercises part of this book quickly--its content is all relevant. It seems helpful to read through the exercises before starting because some may require other materials, such as a fusion string for the first exercise or a voice recorder for the visualization exercise later on. The schedule asks that you follow it strictly (6 days a week with the 7th day as a rest day) so I'd rather not discover that I'm missing materials on the day for a certain exercise.
I wish the materials were either included in the book or that we were warned that it might be helpful to order the materials from The Cambridge Institute for Better Vision. The materials are easy to make or find, though--it's just a "tad" more trouble.

If you are looking around Amazon at all the different vision improvement books, this is the one that is worth investing in. It is clear, succinct, and offers a step by step program that is thoroughly outlines and easy to follow. A lot of the other books on the subject offer a lot of information, but fail to give the reader a program to follow. Martin Sussman's book also explains why and how vision works and why it will improve with this program. I just got the book, but already his techniques have completely changed my (previously negative)attitude toward my vision.

When I started this program, my perscription was -4.75 in each eye with enough astigmatism that I had to wear glasses to correct it. Now, three months later, I wear contacts at -3.50 and no correction for astigmatism and am seeing 20/20. I have hope that someday I might not need lenses at all.
Really good book.

What can I say? The other reviewers have said it all. Anything that I wrote would be simply reiterating what has already been said. This book is thorough, concise, easy to read and reference, and covers all the body systems pertinent to critical care interventions. It should be considered a mandatory addition to any serious critical care nurse's library.

This is an outstanding little book for critical care nurses. It has a plethora of useful information including what all those obscure signs are (like Quincke's sign), common drugs and lab values. Plus more really nifty stuff. And it covers all the body systems, not just cardiovascular. I don't know why Amazon states that the title is "Quick Reference to Critical Care:Evaluation and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disorders". That is not the title on my book. My book is simply titled "Quick Reference to Critical Care". Great book that is worth every penny.
