Basic Sciences Books

Atom Photon Interactions is an excellent text for atomic and optical physics. I refer back to the review material---transition amplitudes, quantum electrodynamic fundamentals, etc--- over and over again. Naturally, these sections are very brief, and the book works best along side Cohen-Tannoudji's more elementary texts Quantum Mechanics and Photons and Atoms, or their equivalents.

The later chapters are rich in techniques and intuition applicable to atom-trapping, spectroscopy, laser theory, etc. Cohen-Tannoudji covers a lot of material, and manages to link it all to a few basic fundamental principles. The book is extremely well-organized, with bite-sized sections and appendices to each chapter. An excellent collection of exercises with solutions is included in the back. Unfortunately, the text does not prompt the reader to try working these problems at appropriate times (sadly, I didn't realize the exercises were there until I'd been using the book for some time). Like Photons and Atoms, this is primarily a book for theorists; its one weakness, I feel, is that the principles, however clear, never seem connected to the actual numbers that an experimentalist or system designer can relate to.

I AM AN ENGINEERING MANAGER, NOT A FULL TIME AUTOCAD USER. I FIND THAT I CAN STILL MAKE PROFITABLE USE OF AUTOCAD LT BECAUSE USING THIS REFERENCE BOOK I CAN READILY AND EFFICIENTLY GET "UNSTUCK" WHEN I RUN INTO A PROBLEM.

I do not have that much understanding of AC circuits but I have to study it for the FE exam. This book showed me how AC is different from DC in a clear logical practical manner with no techno-garble, just plain simple english.

I have been through about twenty Algebra books and this one is easy to read and understand.

This book makes stats much easier to swallow. Excellent chapter exercises to apply the learning, although, sometimes the formulas and answers don't seem consistent so I wonder if I got an early version before addt; edits and corrections were made.

Great book to use and apply in the real health care work environment.

I have been using this book for the past two years. I teach A&P to students of Reflexology and Massage - we all find this book to be easy to use informative and well-priced.

This book presents a practical approach to process control for the chemical, refining, pulp and paper, utilities and similar industries.

The book serves both the beginning and experienced control systems engineer. For the beginner it iniatily presents very simple concepts. For the experienced, it develops these initial concepts so as to provide deeper understanding or new insights into familiar concepts.

As the name implies, truly the basic text from where it all sarts. True it does seem a bit short on some chapters and some pathologies, but that's exactly the point. This new edition is nicely published and very atractive to read cover to cover.

Then it's off to read some of theother heavier retina books...

The subject is treated at a basic level, but provides a good overview for a reader that has little prior experience with the subject. This would be a great supplement to the typical first-year general chemistry text, and would set the stage for further work in more formal courses.

The book was in perfect condition just like the discription but unfortunatly it was the wrong book. The company took the book back no questions asked and returned my money. I have delt with many companies that I was impressed with but when a return is hassle free that is a company I would buy from again.. and again.. and again.
