If anyone is seeking for healing, you can relate to this book and I am grateful for this experience for putting it out there about being in the pit of hell. So many of us are dealing with the same issues, but we are afraid to speak about it. I have truly been blessed to write and deliver this book and would highly recommend it to everyone. This one here is definitely a keeper. This book has given me hope and inspiration just knowing that I can share with others and this has been an experience I want to share with the world. This is where I am today and I know now that healing is on it's way for you too. Thank you so much!

A handy all-purpose home medical reference

{Review written June 2005}

This is a handy all-purpose home medical companion, which is useful for reading up on various problems and conditions as you, your family and friends encounter them in life.

Want to read up on the various forms of arthritis ? It's in there.

Diabetes ? Menopause ? Sprains ? Bloody Noses ? Sleep disorders ? Various surgical procedures ? Ditto.

It's a good all purpose resource. My copy cost me $1 at a yard sale, and it's been worth every penny, many times over ... even though it's slowly become a little dated since it was first published.

It's recommended, and used copies can usually be found for a pittance.

Good introduction

I love the idea of using entirely natural substances with many proven benefits for mind, body and soul, to make perfumes. This book is a pretty decent introduction. There are numerous perfume recipies which encourage creativity and experimentation. The book is clear, serves its purpose and is clearly based on a lot of experience about combining scents. It gets four stars rather than five because it is a little modest in its aims - it doesn't use any of the exotic oils to make perfumes - and a little sparse on explaining the real magic of essential oils -ie that they are extraordinary complex substances that work on a physical, emotional and spiritual realm simultaneously. For books that do wonderful justice to essential oils see Valerie Wormwood's Fragrant Mind and Fragrant Heavens.

i love this book. if you are interested in finding out how to scent anything, be it your body, hair, skin, lotions, bath oils, or your living room -- this book is a great place to start. It is a marvelous introduction to aromatherapy focussing on teaching the basic principles you will need to understand in order to create your own blends. The book also lists a mulititude of excellent sample blends and imparts a wealth of knowledge on the essential oils and how to use them effectively. there's something in here for everyone.

This is one book that I reccoomend to all beginners. It is also very valuable to anyone seeking to incorporate crystals around the home, or anyone learning the principles of feng shui. This book is broken down into sections that address problems of the home/office, health, atrological associations (including obstacles frequently associated with certain signs and the stones to help overcome them), and the spiritual applications of gems. This book is full of full-colour images and has several charts for looking up stones by their situational uses.

I have to disagree with the previous person who read this book. I had to buy the online version last semester and loved it, and continue to read it. This semester i had to buy the softcover copy for another class and i dont plan on doing book return on it at the end of the semster. This book opens up so much in the issues of disabilities, its more than just a journey, its an understanding of peoples needs and struggles for those who have disabilities and for those that dont its a guide on how to help them. I have read other "published" books on disabilites but this one by far surpassed even the classier ones with gold print labels, they were too ready(if thats even a word). This one is to the point, no beating around the bush, i find myself referring back to this in my peer counseling on how i can help others and at times how i can help myself. Without this book, i swear many times i would be lost. I have recommended it to every single staff member who works at UCSF community Focus that has asked me about books on disabilities.

This is one of those books that you purchase for a very informative class, but then never go back to. Nice experience with the book & class- considering the Author was the Professor, but...

Well, it makes for an informative & educational read.

This book is a great idea for someone that wants to solve a minor problem he may be having (such as dry hair, sunburn, or sore throat) without having to pay a doctor or look for advice for hours on the internet. This book lists several ailments and annoyances men suffer from, and provides a 2 to 5 page summary of what it is and how to treat it.

Essential for the caregiver
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-08-08
If you are caring for a family member with Alzheimer's, this book provides a peer reviewed foundation for understanding and preparing for their needs as they progress beyond Stage 2.

It explains what we know. It explains what we don't know. It provides case studies to clarify discussions. It offers guidance and tools for communication, nutrition, bathing, medical, and emotional support. It discusses end of life issues and provides a framework and vocabulary for discussing these things with the person's doctor and any caregivers that may be helping you.

For institutional readers, this book describes the special care unit as defined by the NIH for dementia patients in late stage. I have been advised that the VA Healthcare System has done a good job of implementing this model for the care of veterans with dementia. For caregivers it provides a comprehensive basis for assessing the capabilities of other skilled care facilities should placement become a need or consideration.

A practical guide to programming in late stage dementia care

There are many books available about programming in the early and middle stages of dementia. This is the first book I've read about programming in the later stages of dementia. The author discusses the concept of the "dementia hospice." She takes the approach that people in end-stage dementia should be treated as human beings with feelings and needs that can be addressed and met.

I especially appreciated the section about the supportive environment. The environment seems to be a critical piece of the dementia care puzzle.

I recommend this book to anyone who cares for those with dementia.

Escape From Planet Earth

Review Date: 2008-01-30

No one this reviewer knows is more capable of writing Escape From Planet Earth: The
Soul's Journey Home. Carol Powel-Smith brings a unique combination of talent,
learning, experience and compassion. Thus she can give us a superlative understanding
about the "...possibility for escape from the cycle of life, death and rebirth."

Bringing 30 years of training in Spiritual Astrology, Numerology, Tarot and Qabalah to
bear, Carol investigates "...the possibility that an all-loving Source exists, a Being who
wants to experience all possible modes of existence and so projects Itself into countless
individual manifestations. These modes of existence encompass not only life on this plane
and planet, but on infinite others, beyond anything we can even imagine."

This well-written and exciting new book explains the 12 roles of souls on earth, shows
how mythology and history explain our life roles, and helps the reader to discover how
astrological sun signs relate to our roles. Indeed, Carol has incorporated not only the
examples of a hypothetical group of souls through many lifetimes, she offers the reader the
opportunity to explore his/her own escape from planet earth.

Author, spiritual healer & counselor, and ordained minister of the Universal Brotherhood
Movement has given us the tools for a journey to new levels of personal and soul
awareness. Escape From Planet Earth: The Soul's Journey Home can enable you to
raise your consciousness while in your human body; a never-ending journey. In this
reviewer's opinion, Escape From Planet Earth: The Soul's Journey Home is more than
a book, it is an opportunity!

Metaphysical Reviews

Review Date: 2007-12-27
The never-ending question: Why are we here? A new and unique look at human physical existence versus spiritual existence; Ego versus Soul and the battle for soul to succeed in a very egotistical environment.

Carol Powel-Smith uses the twelve signs of the zodiac to describe and relate the twelve roles originally assigned to beings on Earth. To their very beginnings, challenges and talents and their journey to the present time. Each sign is followed from the beginning of time, their experiences described and their success at achieving spiritual growth explored. The book is a most interesting concept, which readers will find enjoyable and entertaining.

Anyone with an interest in Astrology will be fascinated with the zodiac references and journey of each of the signs. Whether you look at only your own sign or all of the signs, you will definitely be left with questions to our existence here on planet earth. Is it truly possible to escape? How many incarnations must we endure? You will have to read the book to find out.

Author, Carol Powel-Smith is an expert in Astrology, Kabbalah and Numerology. Her studies in these subjects have laid the groundwork for this book. She is a talented teacher and writer, expressing her subject easily and concisely. She has studied Buddhism and experienced different cultures in her travels with her husband, who is associated with the World Health Organization.

Well written, and a recommended read by Shirley Roe, Allbooks Review.
