This is a great book with great ideas. It really does work for a full-time working mother, as well as a stay at home working mom. Even if you only utilize a handful of her ideas it is worth it.

This book was exactly what I needed I'm an at home mom of a 1& 3 year old and have been trying for 3 years to keep my life balanced on a regular basis but only have done that in waves. Until now. Since I quit my job as a 2nd grade teacher to become a full time homemaker, I've never been so driven and motivated. I'm better in so many areas and I'm only at week four in the book. I spend 1/2 hour every day doing the exercises and taking notes. I love that time I spend.I can't wait to get up and read the next day. I recommend it to every mom I know because it has helped my life so much. Hannah is funny and organized the book so well. I love the sequence of chapters, exercises, reminders, and her writing style. It's very easy to read. I want to tell more...but my baby needs me. Any mom could use the information found in this book!WOW! If anyone wants to ask me about it, just e-mail me at Morjulie@gmail.com :)Julie Morris (Patrick Morris is my husband)

When I first received this book, I read the book quickly without taking the time to get a notebook and complete the daily exercises. When I finished the book, I grabbed a notebook and started back through each chapter. Hannah's advice hit right on target in many areas of my life. Hannah understands the chaos and emotions involved with motherhood. She offers avenues for mothers to take back control of their life. In a world where everyone is selling external fixes to problems, it's nice to read a book that focuses on the internal you.

Don't let the name fool you. There is more to this book than "spa" recipes. It is full of common sense home remedies for more than 100 ailments including everything from vericose veins to alergies.

Pretty Good!

This was a great book for do-it-yourselfers. I've enjoyed the different recipes that focus on different conditions. This did not introduce many different types of beauty products or treatments, but offered a tremendous amount of work in aromatherapy treatments for different types of conditions. It's a great book to keep on hand.

I am all about taking care of our health in a holist way. The great thing about this book is that, for me, it does two things at once. It gives natural remedies for health conditions that feel self-nurturing. I so appreciate that. Recently I had bronchitis and while I applied the natural remedies I felt pampered at the same time. Can't beat that ... especially when you're sick!!

Great reference & well worth the price!

This comprehensive "health & wellness" book not only covers aromatherapy (my main interest), but also covers breath work, diet/lifestyle tips, herbal remedies & teas, sound & music therapy, and yoga. It provides a variety of remedies for an exhaustive list of ailments, such as: Allergies, Chicken Pox, Colds, Depression, Headaches, Hyperactivity, Insomnia, Muscle Cramps, Nausea, Dry/Oily/Sensitive Skin, Stress & Anxiety -- to name a few.

A wide variety of aromatherapy, herb, and food recipes are included, such as: Asthma Oil Blend; Bachache Massage Oil; Cool, Calm, & Collected Tea; Peaceful Sleep Spray; Farm Fresh Facial Scrub; Lavender-Rose Silken Lotion; Sore Throat Gargle; Stay-Healthy Spice Seasoning; Tasty Teething Biscuits; and Old-Fashioned Garlic and Onion Soup. Pure essential oils are a must for the aromatherapy recipes, but most other recipes include easily-obtained ingredients, which can be found at a grocery or health food store.

Packed with useful information, some case studies, and factual data, it's also written in an easy-to-read, conversational style. My only complaint is that the Essential Oil References section in the Appendix could have been lengthier & more helpful. For instance, the author lists only one company as a supplier of pure essential oils. And only lists HER OWN company as a source for additional Aromatherapy and Holistic Education information. Also, one future recommendation for the book would be to have an additional index of recipes by title (e.g., currently, you have to remember that the Garlic Soup recipe is in the "Bronchitis" section or look up "soup" in the index).

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for ways to cope with everyday stress or specific health/emotional problems, or just to improve their quality of life!

This is an excellent resource book. Rosemary gives you natural remedies to common ailments that we all suffer from. Her books are easy to read and comprehend and a valuable addition to any herbal library. I can't say enough good things about her books: she gives you recipies to follow, ways to prepare herbal concoctions in various forms using a variety of bases and her writing is very down to earth.

Here is the however: This book and a few of her others are completely included in her book "Rosemary Gladstar's Family Herbal". The "Family Herbal" includes: Taming Stress & Anxiety, Home Remedies for Everyday Ailments, Recipes for Radiant Beauty, For Children, For Women, For Men and also For Elders and even more information then that - including information on how to prepare herbs, An A - Z Herbal Apothecary, etc...

The only book, where the topic is also touched on in "The Family Herbal", I would purchase aside from "The Family Herbal" is "Herbal Healing For Women" and any of her other books whose titles aren't included in "The Family Herbal"

I appreciate books like this that are relatively inexpensive and good
to have on hand to give the best of the best and the most useful of
the useful. Gladstars book explains those basic herbs that we should
have around the house all of the time... Buy this book to see what you
need to keep stocked in your medicine closet.

Rosemary Gladstar truly knows her subject matter. She has perfected the way to individualize health concerns and write detailing the herbal treatments for that area. In this book, however she has given us the most important and the most "universal" (in terms of their diverse uses) herbs that we should always have on hand. I don't think it was an accident that her name is Rosemary. Good work Ms. Gladstar.

This book has a lot of great recipes in it - my only problem with it is that it is very large & so it doesn't fit with the rest of my cookbooks - it is a big square-ish book. That gets on my nerves a little bit b/c I had to find a different place to keep it.

This is a great book. I have it on my coffee table because the photographs are so beautiful but it holds the secret to making yourself look like a party planner and a cook without difficulty. The menu suggestions make entertaining a pleasant experience and the Mexican Fiesta is my favorite. However, I am going to use Holly Clegg's ideas for my Superbowl Party in January to impress my guests and family. This is really a "MUST" for every kitchen. You will make a lasting impression!

I've made the shrimp and grits casserole, chinese fried rice, tiramisu, bbq shrimp and others. I've even given it for gifts and everyone loves it. The layout and photography are also very well done.

Joyce Dyer is a masterful writer, and In A Tangled Wood is some of her very best work. Though many find the subject of Alzheimer's Disease to be taboo or distasteful, Ms. Dyer presents her family's journey through her mother's AD years in such loving and personal terms it is impossible to feel anything but tremendous respect for everyone involved.

Dyer uses cunningly descriptive metaphors throughout the book, as well as well-placed bits of comic relief in what could have easily become a much too depressing story. She reveals enough of herself personally to allow the reader to understand how she and her mother developed the relationship they had. While this is a story about a woman who has AD, it's also a story about a daughter's relationship with her mother - regardless of any illness. It reveals what we children can and will do for our parents when the tables (ultimately) turn.

It is a tale of courage and faith, of patience and hope, of acceptance and love.

Personal Account Makes the Difference

Review Date: 2002-01-05
Ms. Dyer's account of her own mother's illness is really what made the difference for me in this book. I am not touched by alzheimer's disease yet, so I have no basis of engagement or interest. But something about this book told me I'd enjoy it, and I was right.

Ms. Dyer's MO is to simply present her story about her mother intertwined with the stories of other people in the home with her mother. She reflects on her mother's past, on their shared pasts, on her own past. She doesn't ever get overly weepy, but Dyer does present her feelings as her mother decays further and further away from her true self. Overall, though, you feel that Dyer was happy to be able to experience this trying time with her mother, and you get a glimpse of the strength that it must have taken to come back to the home each day.

It's clear that writing about her experiences is therapy. But reading about them is therapy, too; it forces you to think about "something else," something more grave than whether you should handwash that plate and whether the lawn needs another cut. In reality, Dyer reveals many issues of the basic human condition that are grounds for thoughtful discussion and planning.

I enjoyed every bit of the book. The personal account format really drew me in, and the reality and emotion kept me reading.

The best book I've read on the subject of Alzheimer's

This is a great book that details how environmental hazards along with food allergies affect children. It analyzes schools and homes to inform people of the chemicals, paint, carpeting, spices, etc. cause symptoms of Learning Disabilities or behavior problems. The chapters in this book are broken down specifically to help you target your concerns. I loved the pictoral and writing samples given in this book. As a special educator, I found this book extremely helpful in my school building and with my own family. I recommend this to anyone with concerns about their children or students.

This book is incredible and I have given a copy to my son's principal. We had already incorporated a lot of her suggestions based on appointments with our Environmental Physician. Her book was instrumental in helping me replace cleaners in my son's classroom. Also, her other book, Our Toxic World is worth reading as well. We have seen some wonderful changes for the entire family by changing cleaners, eliminating pesticides, and identifying triggers for us. This should be required reading material for school administrators.

Dr. Rapp hits another home run with this work. If you have school age children who have experienced behavioral problems at school, then you want to read this book.

This book also gives the reader suggestions on things that can be changed at home, with diet and nutrition to improve your child's well being.

Don't be surprised if school officials try to discredit this work. After all, "traditional thinking", while outdated, has prevailed for years. We gave a copy of the book to the school principle, who promised to read it. The other "experts" simply pushed the book away and changed the topic.

We have shared this information with others, and have a "loaner copy" that we are sharing with other parents in our school system.

Keepsafe collects realistic, non-frightening safety tips in one, easy-to-read book. The format is perfect for our "time-crunched" lives; each chapter is only a few pages long.

Each idea and suggestion is understandable and logical for our everyday lives. The authors' experience and backgrounds in public safety are impressive, and while I'm certain that they have dealt with safety issues we can't begin to comprehend, this collection of safety practices is not overly complex or difficult. In fact, the tone is nicely conversational.

This book is an interesting, practical, understandable and all-encompassing guide to being safer and keeping our families safer. Thank you to the 2 dedicated safety professionals for putting it all in one place.

The unfortunate thing about "common sense is that it's so common it is often taken for granted. That is precisely what this book will prevent. I don't know how many times it happened but as I read this book I found myself repeatedly saying to myself, "What a great idea!" The suggestions in this book are current, realistic, and easy to apply. Things like having your child carry one of your business cards on his or her person, or getting to know by name the bus driver who takes your child to school each day. They are simple, plain, and the kinds of things that will prevent the sort of tragedy that results in one saying "If I'd only done this..." Beyond that, the suggestions are not the kinds of things that will keep you locked behind closed doors. There's nothing paranoid here. Just common sense. "Keep Safe" is well written and easy to read. It has clearly been well researched by two authors who have spent their careers in the field of public safety. Having been in the law enforcement field for eleven years myself, I recommend "Keep Safe" to anyone who wants to live more safely, and thus more fully, in a dangerous world.
