Anyone interested in herbalism in any way needs to read this book. Susun is most definately a grandmother of herbalism to the next generations that follow the herbal ways.
Susun is delightful in her writing and is also very public about everything she writes about. Truly teaching us about the herbs themselves and how to apply them.

I got a bit confused on her way of describing dandelion in her french accent writing about the plant, but now that I have been exposed to a french teacher, I am more comfortable with understanding this section of the book and should re read it.

But that is Susun's playful style and how the plants are in relation to her.

If you practice herbalism in any degree, this is a must have book.

Wise Woman Herbal: Healing Wise looks at health and healing from a completely different perspective than any other resource I've ever consulted. Instead of looking at illness as something needing medication (as in western scientific medicine) or as the result of some sort of bodily imbalance (as in traditional eastern medicine), this book looks at illness as an opportunity.

At first, I have to admit that this concept sounded really strange to me. What sort of opportunity is suffering from Chronic Fatigue or having to deal with the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis? However, as I continued through the thorough and easy to understand explanations of the wise woman tradition, I began to understand more about the principles behind optimum nourishment.

Basically, this concept requires that we learn to take care of, accept, learn from and love ourselves at every point in our life process. To do so, brings about change and further opportunities to nourish our being. Thus, if we have an illness in the traditional sense, then we need to take the opportunity to learn about ourselves and fully nurture our being before we can ever hope to release the seemingly negatives aspects of the situation.

Wise Woman Herbal: Healing Wise has me intrigued with the wise woman tradition. I find the concept of a spiral healing pattern (as opposed to the linear pattern of western medicine and the circular pattern of traditional eastern medicine) fascinating. I also like that this book gave me a distinctly different way to think about my health. I am extremely eager to learn more about this tradition.

This is a wonderful book filled with wisdom and love. The author has presented the reader with a simple, clear cut, and hands on approach to herbalism. The reader is presented with the 3 traditions of healing, scientific, heroic, and wisewoman. After reading this book I decided to get involved in naturopathic medicine and stay clear of the scientific and heroic traditions of healing. Susun Weed has such an apporach to her writing, reading the book makes you feel like she is by your side guiding your hand as you prepare your simples. This is truly a book to cherish through out the years.

Susun Weed is the BOMB. I especially appreciated the quick response to the questions I posted at the website when I used her recipes for making tinctures. There is something to be said for her stance on no licensing for herbalists. She holds no certifications having had her education in herbalism in a life long pursuit of the path. I would trust her word over a certified herbalist any day simply because she practices and lives by what she writes about. A wonderful resource for those of us growing older. I am ten years post hysterectomy and the ovaries are starting to fluctuate. The tinctures that she profiles in this book went a long way to addressing the specific complaints I was having without having to go look for 'menopause' formulas. Supplementing the things your body needs as its ability to produce them naturally declines will go a long way towards easing the transition into Cronehood.
Buy the book, it's wonderfully informative AND entertaining. Get all her other books while you're at it!

This great resourceful paperback on herbs,is still the best one around. It's packed with useful herbal information and history.Anyone interested in herbs should read this book.Anyone also studying and practicing Wicca can learn a lot from this little book. For the cost of this book, its well worth it.When first published ,in 1974,it was well ahead of its time.Nowadays, everybody knows the health benefits of 'Green Tea',Ginko Biloba and Hoodia.Green Tea burns body fat, aids digestion, surpresses appetite, flushes out free-radicals,and kills bacteria around your teeth.I was glad to have read it years ago and it got me thinking about better, healthier living. It also got me interested in the environment and gardening. When you hurt the environment, you hurt others and it will come back to haunt you too.

This is my second copy of this book, I bought my first one when I began to learn about herbs and wore it out from reading it so much. After 15 years of studying and 10 writing about herbs, this is one of my favorite books and I still learn from it. There is an incredible amount of information crammed into this 600+ page book, and its portable.

This is the one, the one book I feel anyone serious about herbs should have in their collection. It has proved invaluable to me in so many ways. It includes cosmetic and medicinal for most any herb you can think of. It is also good for information on traditional uses and background knowledge. It can be a bit overwhelming at first but once you get a grasp on how it is organised (it didn't take me long) it proves indespensible.

This I DARE YOU (MP3 CD) version will NOT PLAY ON A CD PLAYER. IT ONLY PLAYS on a computer.
I was a little disappointed since I purchased it to play in the car and on a portable cd player. It only plays on the computer disk player. I'll have to download it myself to an audio MP3 format. It must have been recorded as a DATA file. The narrator is a little momo-toned and I was very surprised that I zoned out on a self-help type CD. There are 14 chapters that run anywhere from 2 minutes 16 seconds to 26 minutes 14 seconds. Some are short, most are average 5-10 minutes.

The "I Dare You plan," first published in 1938 for the young and young at heart, is brightly authored by William H. Danforth, founder of the Purina Company. Written in scoutmaster style, this little gem will have you saluting to adventure. It is precise, simple, and uplifting.

"That is the first principle that I want thoroughly to fix in your mind--that life is a four-sided affair--that your daring program is going to lead you into physical adventures, mental adventures, social adventures, spiritual adventures. You have not one, but four lives to live--a four-fold opportunity to grow. A body, a brain, a heart, and a soul--these are our living tools. To use them is not a task. It is a golden opportunity. To find new capacities within you is not robbing you of any pleasure. It is bringing new treasures into every waking hour. It is helping you touch life at all angles, absorb strength from all contacts, pour out power on all fronts." Danforth adds "How dare you have within yourself these four-fold capacities and not use them?"

Like to be riveted into action? This book will do it. You will also feel rather selfish after the first reading (for witholding your dynamite). Go over it again several times. Mine is highlighted at every point (and there are many). I suggest you study I Dare You! along with the vintage movie "Fighting Father Dunne" (1948).

As one of the other reviewers noted, I too read this original book from my father's library when I was [...], in the 50s. Although almost forgotten, when I was writing articles on leadership, I realized this may have been the single most important book I had read...and used throughout life, becoming a leader in every...yes every...organization I belonged to, from high school Senior class President, college fraternity President, Band president(s), VP-Pres. elect of a national association, President of a state-wide organization, to Editor of a writers Quarterly and business owner. Now at 71, and looking back, "I Dare You" is quite possibly the only book necessary for directions in life. It's not about "success" or "money," it's about being your best and being the best FOR everyone around you.

This little book is-for the most part- really great. It moves fast and grips the reader. I felt immediately inspired by it. However, there is one flaw. I have trouble taking the advice of anybody that believes in talking snakes. Practically the whole character building chapter is based on religion. One of the sides of your square is supposed to be labled religion. I think thats an unnecissary addition to the book. You do not need to buy the worlds greatest fairy tail to be successful and happy in your life.

This past weekend I attended a Jewish Social Action weekend with 100 others hoping to have a good time and try to change the world around me and bring smiles to peoples faces. I had no idea that in the course of this weekend I would get to hear a man named Scott Fried speak. Scott Fried is one of the most amazing people I have met in my life. This book doesn't just tell the story of Scott Fried, a Jewish Homosexual from New York, it tells the story of what we all feel inside. It explains the values of self-respect and knowing that you are sacred. It pushes you to look deep within your self, and find the person you are not the person you want others to see. I would highly recommend that all of you get a chance to hear Scott in person because it truly is a life changing experience. I borrowed this book from a family member, and though it was painful, I read every one of Scott's words. The bravery and courage it took to record so much pain should be looked upon as heroism. This book is a must read for anyone who feels as though they are hiding something (and that is all of us).

This book discussed the facts of life that the great majority of us would like to ignore. It is not only personal, but extremely factual as well. I had the extreme pleasure of watching Scott speak, and it was a life changing experience. Intrigued, I purchased the book not knowing what to expect. What I got was a soul searching book that not only educated me on a myriad of different subjects, but most importantly educated me about the will to survive. It taught me about how one man had overcome so much, and how willing he was to share his feelings for the benefits of others. This is written with excellent grace and bravery. It is recommended for anyone who is not afraid to look within themselves after read how one man did.

It is the experiences of an amazing man put into words so eloquently and delicately that after reading it you will feel as though you have lived that life and been a part of everything he speaks of. If you have an interest in life, AIDS, friendship, or love... this book will speak to you. I hope you enjoy it as much as i did...

I was looking for a book that would help me strengthen and tone my muscles. Help me get a routine going that I can stick with. As I've gotten older I have lost a lot of muscle mass and I feel it's important to gain most of that back. Now that I'm alone I need to be able to take care of myself and do for myself. I believe this book will do the trick. It has helped Montel Williams out as this woman is his personal trainer.

This book is easy to understand with quick simple workouts that really get your body working out. I never thought I could get my heart rate up with such simple work outs but I really did on this one! I often worry that I'll hurt myself doing exercises the wrong way but she's good at pointing out what to watch for to make sure you're doing it right. The exercises are short and easy to do before work or while dinner's in the oven. And I can adjust the number of reps I do to make sure I have that sore great work out feeling the next morning! Hope you all enjoy it!

I have used the Lean, Long and Strong book on and off for three years now. After having twins in Jan 2005 I was determined to get back in shape, this book was given to me as a gift. The work outs are easy enough to build on and hard enough to challenge you. Her eating advise is practical and easy. Even though I have been doing it for three years I am still challenged everytime. I am in the best shape of my life, I am about the same size I was in high school and I recommend this book to any woman who is wondering where to start with strength training. I have to be honest, I am not comfortable using the strenght training equipment at a gym and I don't think I ever will be. Lean, Long and Strong is a quick, flexible program that really works! It helped me get rid of my "mommy" butt and gave me some shape back there.

I purchased this book for the purpose of getting back into shape after having baby #2. I was very active during both my pregnancies, so just needed something to 'tweak' myself back into pre-pregnancy form. This book absolutely served that purpose. For someone with limited time and resources (I don't have time to go to the gym, but have a few essential items at home), it's perfect. After a consistent training with this book, coupled with cardio, I lost my last 5 pounds in just a few short weeks. And my muscle definition is back! However, if you're looking for something more 'challenging' or if you have significant weight to lose, I suggest you hire a trainer.

I have been very impressed with this book. The strength training only takes 15 minutes a day and you can do it at home with only an exercise mat, exercise ball and 2 free weights. There is no excuse not to do it when you can do it at home in 15 minutes. She incorporates stretching with the weight-lifting - so you feel better afterwards. I would recommend this book to men and women. My husband has also found the workouts helpful.

Through my life I have wanted to change from being an out of control eater to a well controlled person. Eating has been my biggest down fall and I have turned to food for many hiccups through life for comfort.

Jeremy has written this book to talk about his struggles through live and how he learned to over come them. He is transparent with his thoughts and his writing.

It has been encourgaging to read a book that puts the prospective of our mind set in the forefront of our struggle of life. It is our mind set that allows or disallows what we can or cannot achieve in life; and the mind set is choice by each of us as Jeremy helps us see.

The book is easliy read, full of tons of information, inspiration, and truths that we can all use on our journeys through life.

It was also encouraging that when you get on Jeremy's website and you ask a question. . . . he writes! Thanks Jeremy!

What a great book. This is a must read for anyone who has struggled with weight, diet, or self image. It really gets you thinking about the WHY you want to lose weight, which is the most important step. Woven within the how to's is Jeremy's own story. The cover can show you what Jeremy has done. The inside gives you details of his ups and downs. The types of ups and downs that we all face and must overcome. Detailed enough for someone looking for specifics but easy reading enough for those of us who get discouraged by too much detail. This book is worth the purchase price just for the lessons on how to read the ingredients on labels. If I could give 6 or 7 stars I would!!

This is a staggeringly powerful and important book. Our relationship with the earth and all of its inhabitants is crucial to our continued biological, psychological and spiritual health and our survival as a species. Why we continue to ignore and deride this very real fact is a devastating mystery to me - this book, however, not only illuminates, in poignant and heart-breaking ways, our continued ignorance, but offers the reader the opportunity to begin learning how to reestablish this most fundamental of relationships. Liberally sprinkled with some truly excellent quotations from various authors, activists and thinkers, and full of some terrifying information about the pharmaceutical industry, this book is a captivating read. It is an incredibly useful text for anyone, most especially for those practicing a plant-based system of healing, as it gives a philosophical groundwork that every holistic herbalist can incorporate into their practice and their lifestyle.

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Thoughtful, poignant, well written, it even brought me to tears at some points. I learned so many things I didn't know, which doesn't happen for me very often, sad to say. I have a pretty good idea how destructive man has been to the environment, but there were chapters in this book that opened my eyes even further, particularly when it comes to the ripple effect of the pharmaceutical industry.

But more than that, the author discusses with due respect the indigenous history of working with plants and how dismissing that history in the name of profit, power and control serves no one.

This book is truly a labor of love that speaks from every page. I had no idea what a page-turner it would turn out to be. Consider yourself forewarned.

Though I am not totally vegan yet, I have been working my way towards a more plant centered diet. I remembered seeing really great looking recipes in this book and decided to order it. It's a shame this is out of print and hasn't gotten more attention. One thing I needed help with is that I have a huge sweet tooth but can't tolerate any type of sugar. The dessert recipes in this book all use natural sweeteners ilke fruit juice concentrate and maple syrup. They also have no saturated fat. The Caramel Apple Crunch is simply amazing, it tastes just as rich and delicious as the apple crisp mom used to make. But with none of the butter or refined sugar. It calls for Fruitsource, which is no longer available, but I use a product called FruitSweet. The carrot cake is also wonderful,it used an interesting blenderized mix of sweetener, orange zest, oil and raisins to create a really terrific flavor. For Christmas, I made the pecan pie and the apple-cranberry bread pudding, both got raves. I want to try more of the savory recipes now, but only gave four stars due to the savory results so far: the broccoli soup was fair, kind of bland, and the cornbread was really dry and not good. Overall though, an interesting read with a lot of great recipes. Jia Patton should put out her own cookbook.

This is the first book on becoming vegan and the first vegan cookbook I ever bought. I'll be needing a new one soon, as the one I have now (second copy) is getting too dog-eared and stained to read. Robbins concisely presents every reason for becoming vegan, and backs them all up with extensive, useful footnotes. And the recipes are just plain delicious! The Mexican Black Bean Dip & Eggplant, Vegetable & Tahini Spread are addictive. The Caramel Apple Crunch makes a cold, sad day all better. The Plum Cobbler is just the thing to make when Italian prune plums are in season. The only sad thing is that he lives in Santa Cruz & I don't, so the delicious recipes focusing on what is in season don't work as well for me as for him.

I loved the hints and tips for mainting a cupboard and kitchen, and the nice recipes that I have been using/modifying for my own use. The information in the beginning is nice, too, although mostly a reprint of Diet for a New America.

The updated sections on fish and milk were very interesting, however, especially fish, which is touted today as a wonder-food for older people hoping to live longer. Many fish today arrive at your supermarkets having previously been mold-contaminated from sitting out in the open too long, and many contain high concentrations of Mercury, which also has been documented in a recent Reader's Digest article.

Just like what Marianne Williamson said on the front cover of this book: "I hope everyone reads this book!"

Third World issues/possible solutions addressed.

Diet for a New World will make you think twice about your next meal. Robbins offers real solutions to third world issues. When we consume meat, the crops were grown in abundance in a third world or extremely poor country, then it was exported to a meat farm to feed the cattle. Robbins explains that the grain used to feed the cattle could have fed the starving population of the growers and us as well.

Some of this book is difficult to read because it makes us take a serious look and the way live, eat and purchase everyday items. I'm glad I did- it changed my life.

Becoming vegetarian or vegan is only part of the solution. Buy the book, read it, practice it, bring veg dishes to gatherings and share what you know. Buy the book as a gift too, that's how I got it.

I realize we have One Earth and One Chance- let's make it count. John Robbins can get you started on the right path.

Great book. Helpful and insightful. She presents this topic in a novel that is interesting, well written, and even funny at times. Great approach, a novel, that demonstrates the process of repressing memories as well as remembering.

A Wonderful Fictional Work

This novel while being fictional reads as though it were an actual account of a survivor. It is well written and enjoyable

I had the honour of reading this book before it actually came out. It is sitting on my shelf among my 'favourite books' collection. Reading it, I was so impressed with how powerful it was through 'understatement'. The book is written so calmly, without trying to rev-up your feelings with gory details that it left a lasting impression that touched me deep inside. And here I am a couple of years later telling Karriker that her book is still with me. There are only a few of the many novels I read about which I can say that.

Perhaps this novel will make others see

Yes this is a fictional account of real life but still, perhaps it will give way for people to pull their heads out of the sand and looking around them. Bad things have and are happening to our most vulnerable citizens and to deny that they are happening allows them to continue unabated. Which places more children and innocent adult in harms way. The truths that this novel gives credence to many do not want to hear but surely need to. It does not take much work to find information while on-line by looking at other books which are not fiction such as The Franklin Cover-up by John W. DeCamp or by simply asking themselves simple questions like where do all the pictures confiscated by police in child porn busts come from. The answers are out there one just has to be willing to look and perhaps believe. Wanda Karriker's book dares to look.
Ms. Karriker's main character Dr. Emily Lentz Klein finds herself on a journey of discovery that takes her to a sometimes overwhelming place of understanding of the powerful networks that molest, abuse and sometimes even kill both children and adults. As she pursues a clear understanding of RA she comes to realize that the stakes are more personal than she thought. In her quest of comprehension she discovers that this is not the work of a few psychotic backwoods individuals from a small town but she uncovers a connection to one of the CIA's mind control experiments known as the MKULTRA Project. She also discovers that many of the screamers of "False Memories" opponents of RA are accused abuse perpetrators.
Those who want to relegate this book and those who believe in its possibilities to conspiracist or paranoiac, please remember that this is more than possible, it has happen many times in the US's history as well as that of other places in the world. I agree with one of the other poster here(Kire) he wrote...."The social forces that want to silence the voices of the survivors are indeed powerful -" and that we are so quick to adhere to what those powers say, says so much about us as a society.
Remember that quote 'Those who forget their past are destine to repeat it'. Well in our case we are destine to continue it, seeing as you don't fix something that ain't broke. Especially since there's no one working on it except for a few brave therapists who continue to work on restoring the broken inspite of having been villanized by those social forces who want the survivors of their hell silenced.
I recommended this book whole-heartedly. It is well written and once you pick it up you will find it difficult to put it down until your done.

I am currently a student of Dr. Moini, and I bought this book while taking his Anatomy I class. I have continued to use it throughout the rest of my Anatomy classes, and it is still very helpful. This book is very helpful; it makes learning even the most complicated things easy. Dr. Moini's book has been an invaluable resource to me so far, and I am sure that it will be just as helpful while reviewing for the CMA exam. I highly recommend this book - it's an excellent way to study!

Great Book Dr. Moini!
