I am so happy to find a new copy of this old friend

I have a 20-year-old softbound copy of this cookbook that is in tatters, so I am very happy finally to find a fresh copy. I have made many of the recipes in this book and my family has a couple of all-time favorites, especially the pork with green beans and the vegetarian lasagne. While the basic recipes are wonderful, I frequently find them to be bland. My cookbook is filled with margin notes about what herbs and spices I have tried over the years to enhance the recipes. Nonetheless, this is a treasured part of my cookbook library.

The first part of the book is lots of info about nutrition and so on, very interesting and informative (like talking about how potatoes have gotten a bum rap, there really healthy, she mentions one guy who lived healthily for 300 days on nothing but potatoes (and a little margarin). The second part is a few hundred recipes, which are great - easy, delicious, pretty fast, a lot of them with ingredients we keep around the house. Some of our favorites - the chili recipes, the spaghetti pancakes, multigrain pancakes (good with soy flour and blueberries), etc. This (along with books from Moosewood, Tara Duggan, and the Quick Vegetarian Pleasures book) is one of primary cookbooks; we use it all the time. Highly recommended.

A great cookbook for everyday use

Putting "high carbohydrate" in the title is a no-no these days with the lo-carb craze that's going on, but I'm here to tell everyone that this is a great cookbook full of healthy recipes. Brody focuses on recipes that are often low-calorie and almost always include lots of veggies and other complex carbs, and she has many delicious desserts that aren't overloaded on fat and sugar. True weight management comes with exercise and watching overall calorie intake, while ensuring a majority of those calories are healthy ones. This cookbook is perfect for anyone who's interested in increasing his/her repertoire of delicious, healthy recipes.

I have owned this cookbook for about 15 years, and have since compiled an extensive cookbook collection of several hundred volumes. I still use this book, and have never met anyone who didn't love the turkey burgers; the garlicky green beans and braised red cabbage are also excellent. It contains many delicious recipes that are also healthy but are still satisfying and tasty. An excellent all-around cookbook that is meant for a home cook, not a professional chef. I am replacing my well-worn paperback version today.

Great cookbook which has withstood the test of time.

I bought this cookbook back around 1992 and the tattered paperback is the most used cookbook in my kitchen.

I live with a vegetarian, so most of what I've cooked has been the meatless recipes, and without exception, they have all been wonderful! Some of these recipes are also my potluck dinner staples (esp the Tri-Color Chickpea Salad). The Quick Lasanga with Bean Sauce has been the hit of every party I've taken it to, and the Lentil soup is to die for.

At one point, I went through a heavy-duty baking phase, and tried many of the muffin and quick bread recipes in this book. Again, there wasn't a dud in the bunch - everything I baked was excellent and won praise from all who partook.

Most of the recipes in this book are very good "as is" (they don't need much futzing with). There is some prep work involved (lots of chopping of veggies and the like), so many of the recipes do take some time. Almost half of the book consists of information about food, nutrition, cooking hints and techniques, which I've found to be very useful. Personally, if you have to have one main cookbook, I'd say that this should be it!

It was a book I have always needed but never had.
It's really worth reading not only for those who are really in love with lingerie, but even for more practical readers who want to make their life more comfortable. I've read the book in a couple of days and really enjoyed and wanted to have more. Very concise and to the point. A good investment to return to when it was already once read.

Great book on lingerie for any woman

This is a great overview on how to select lingerie best suited for your body. The author, Rebecca Aspan, is wonderfully compassionate towards her readers and understands women from AA to EE... The book celebrates the female form with practical applications, such as helpful ways to measure yourself. She even has a chapter for men!

Something great about the book is Aspan includes an array of body types for her lingerie models from full to thin, from busty to compact. She understands women are created uniquely and really has a firm understanding of female bodies and what fits, flatters, and supports. She offers useful tips on how to properly wear a bra, how underwear should comfortably fit, etc. This is less of an overtly sexual book, if anyone might have misconceptions of the title. Yes, it is a sexy little book, but sexuality simply comes with the territory. It's more of a book for a woman to take better care of her body, personal dress, feel comfortable and confident because she's not pestered by a pinching bra or a horrendous wedgie, and feel great whether someone will enjoy her underwear with her or not.

Wonderful, a new perspective on feeling fabulous every day!

It never occurred to me that all it would take is to put as much care into what you wear underneath your clothes as you do into your outfits each day-it really does give you an extra boost of confidence and makes you feel beautiful. Thank you to Ms. Apsan for giving women one more thing to make themselves feel good each day!

This book has lots an lots of pictures. Pictures of women wearing the wrong and right underwear; Yes right and wrong underwear for the clothes your wearing. The text is very informational and very undersanting.

I'm a male; I wanted to know more about womens undes. I leared alot from this book. I did not know that most visable panty lines came from wearing to small panties, also how you should not wear white panties with white sheer pants. The book tells you to try colors like nude. your going to have to buy the book to find out the rest.

I told my wife that she was wearing the wrong bra and she told me she was not. I measured her and told her she needed to be fitted. I convinced her to be fitted by a pro. She did and she bought a couple bras. Went home throwed away every bra she had (yes every bra she had). The next day we went out bra shopping. I never seen her so happy about bra shopping. She never liked underwire and I told her how your not suppose to feel the underwire. Now that she has the right size underwire is all she looks for.

As a man I found out why there so much to choose from and how to buy. I bought a couple things I like (The lingerie I buy her I tell her I bought me someting knowing how she only wears it for me). Now she wears what I buy as underwear even down to the thongs and g-strings as everyday undes. She feels very sexy now. I think that now I'm married to a diffent women. Her personality has changed for the better. Underwear is the first thing we put on. Yes only we know whats under there but whats under there can make us or brake us.

This book is a great read for both female or male.

Great book even for a guy.

I saw a review of the book on the Internet and added it onto my wish list on Amazon.com. I put it there kind as a joke. Leave it to my mother in law to purchase the book that was added on to my wish list as a joke.

I didn't really mind because I was interested in the book so I read it. The author of the book is the owner of the store La Petite Croquette a lingerie store in New York City.

Although the book is really meant for women it was interesting for me as a guy to read. Most of the book is put together in a no nonsense "This is what you need to know when it comes to lingerie"

The first two chapters of the book talk about why owning high quality lingerie is important. It focuses on how lingerie makes a woman feel sexy and attractive.

The nitty gritty portion of the book really starts out with chapter 3 when it starts talking about bras. This is easily the largest single chapter in the book and it simply states what most women should really know. There is a lot of information about finding the right cup size and band size. It also has a short section on important dates in bra history. It includes a little bit about different styles of bras and what different bra types are good for.

The next section is on panties. It talks about VPL visible panty lines. Different styles of panties are listed and once again a list of what type of outfits each is good for.

The next few sections talk about sleep ware, shape ware, stockings and pantyhose and tights. Each section is organized like the section on bras.

The next section is one of the best section its called tips for women. It basically covers the same topics as the first two chapters but organized in a different way. It even talks about the very racy Perl Thong which sounds like a very interesting outfit to me.

There is also a nicely written section just for men. I think the major two point listed for men was be prepared for sticker shock. (lingerie is expensive) The other hint know the size of the woman that you are trying to buy for.

There are two other section one on caring for lingerie. The author advises washing all lingerie by hand. If you don't have time to wash by had use the gentle cycle. However she advises never drying you lingerie in the dryer always air dry. The heat of the dryer will destroy the elasticity of any lingerie.

The last section talks about the different types of fabric and how a person can build up there own lingerie collection.

This is a really good no nonsense book about what a woman should know about lingerie. I wish that my wife would sit down and read it. I think that women often forget how much simple lingerie can do to flame up passion in a man.

I would advise this book to any woman. I think this book has something most women have not thought of. The section on bras would make this book good for almost any woman. I think the simple fact that 9 out of 10 women are using a bra that does not fit proper is shocking.

I was very surprised that there are training differences and ways to think about dogs and training not addressed in other books. I thought I knew it all. I was wrong. She makes you think about size and how a small dog learns etc. I thought I could guess them, I was wrong. These are things I have never thought of before. I have always had larger dogs. This is a must get book for dogs under 20 lbs or 12". It is the best dog book I have ever purchased. I do not say this lightly. A must have book.

Easy to read and packed with practical training and management advice specifically for those with little dogs. An antidote to the all-too-often owner-induced obnoxious "elbow" dogs. Wood clearly loves these little pooches, but has no illusions about the behavioral challenges that can lead to problems when people don't understand that these are living, breathing, thinking animals--not fashion accessories or surrogate children. I'm teaching a Small Dog Manners class--I intend to make this book required reading.

I have been around dogs all my life, but recently adopted a Chihuahua. All the other dogs were big mutts and German Shepards...This little guy is as sweet as he can be, but this book has helped a lot to understand him. Dogs are not dogs, little bitty dogs are different.

Both of us are getting lots of value from this practical dog training book. If you have a little sprite like mine, get this book.

After living with Migraine Disease for 22 years (I am now only 26) this book has provided me with some answers. I have been suffering from chronic daily headache for the past four years. I picked up this book one weekend and could NOT put it down. Within a week, I was on the recommended Web sites, found a recommended doctor in my area and got in to see him. I've been headache-free for 2 days now! That might not seem like much to some people but to me, it feels like forever! Thank you Teri!

I enjoyed this book far more than I expected. Since the author also experiences migraine attacks, she writes with a great deal of empathy for the sufferer. Reading the stories of the author and others who have experienced attacks at least as frequent or as "bad" as mine reassured me that I am not alone. This book makes two main points: Nearly all migraine patients can be helped, and we should not settle for inadequate medical care. I recommend this book to anyone who experiences migraine attacks, or who cares about someone who does. The book provides both information and encouragement.

If you or someone you love suffers from Migraine Disease - you need this book!

Teri writes with such knowledge and compassion. Every single medical term is explained. She speaks from the heart and you can tell this book was a labor of love.

Thank you Teri! You helped me get my life back!!

I have dealt with migraines for more than 15 years with varying degrees of success. I recently had a resurgence of migraines when I moved to a new part of the country with an extensive new collection of allergens to exacerbate my asthma. In the process of expanding all my sinus cavities, the migraines started up again. I THOUGHT I had figured out all of my triggers and found a way to avoid them and finally dealt with the debilitating pain. I was wrong.

Ms. Robert's book offers extensive information about the nature and causes of Migraine and other headaches. She offers advice and suggestions that have worked for her and many others and cautionary tales as well. While not being a health practitioner herself, she advocates for them as well as their patients.

My only vexation with this book is that while reading it I felt as though I should be jumping onto some band wagon of "Migraineurs" and perhaps should belong to a political action group or some Million Migraineurs March because of a diagnosis. While I understand the need to normalize a disease diagnosis and make idividuals feel like part of a group and supported but perhaps it goes a bit over board for some.

This book is very thorough and gives an in depth look into the most recent research surrounding manic depressive disorder and depression. Starting with the history surrounding mental illness, moving along to diagnosis, prognosis, course of the illness', physiological, biochemical and anatomical changes that occur along with up to date research in it's genetic component, this book gives great insight into mood disorders.

A Must-Read for Patients

Review Date: 2007-05-11
This month's long-awaited second edition recently hit the streets, and is well worth the wait. At more than 1,200 pages and with an impressive list of collaborators shedding light on all manner of matters melancholic and manic, the book represents a virtual Manhattan Project on mood disorders.

With our recovery riding on being as smart, if not smarter, than our treating professionals, it pays for patients to read what their clinicians are reading, especially a work of this magnitude. Don't let clinician-speak intimidate you. The authors went to great lengths to organize their subject matter into a meaningful and comprehensive whole, with clear transitions from one topic to the next. A few pages into the text, and one quickly becomes habituated to the polysyllables. Then it's clear sailing.

At $99, sales resistance is understandable. My two cents: You cannot afford NOT to have this book. Each day you struggle with this illness costs you money, already. The cost-benefit is a no-brainer. Stop paying your cable bill, if you have to, and make what could prove to be the best investment of your life.

Although a huge book along with a hefty price tag, this is probably the most up to date information on bipolar disorder (manic depression) available today. It offers a wealth of information that is usable to the clinician as well as the patient. In fact, I think this should be required reading for any clinician who deal with people with this condition.

I strongly urge the purchase of this book esp. for the consumer as self knowledge will be such an asset when communicating with your doctor. This book covers most everything from the most basic to the most complex information to date on this vexing condition. Though I am constantly searching the internet for the most up to date information on bipolar disease, I find the authors of this book to be the leading authorities presently.

Studying and treating Bipolar Disorder is a difficult trend. Since Kraepelin lessons became available in his book, perhaps "Manic Depressive Illness" is the first to try the almost impossible mission to launch new lights on the matter. And with an amazing approach full of eruditism as well as simplicity and warmth. Untill nowadays, extremely accurate, complete, precise and comprehensive. In little words: in all aspects, amazing!

Review Date: 2006-11-10
I bought this book because someone I know has just been diagnosed with "Soft Bipolar" disorder. This is a "shadow" form of bipolar disorder. While I've dealt with people with bipolar disorder before ( I'm a retired minister), I never heard of "soft bipolar" or "bipolar spectrum" disorder before. This book is the classic text on Bipolar disorder. The only problem is that it is a little old ( about 10 to 15 years old) and discoveries about "soft bipolar" disorder are just coming into the literature now. If you are depressed or diagnosed as depressed, as the person close to me was, you might have soft bipolar disorder. It is much more common than you think. The problem with it is that it needs different medications than regular unipolar disorder does. As an example, if you take one of the SSRI's (such as Prozac or Zoloft) and have soft bipolar, the chances are very good that you will end up with hypomania, which is a mild form of mania. It feels good for a long time--just like alcohol. But at some point in time, it will begin to backfire on you as it did on my friend. She kept getting more and more hyper and angry. Finally, her therapist decided to try out this diagnosis on her. He switched medicines, and it made her mood much more stable. This book would also be excellent for someone who wants to know about bipolar I disorder--manic depressive disorder. The problem with the book is that it is very technical, but everything is there even if it could use a little updating.

I recommend this to anyone who is looking for healthy meal and snack ideas that families will truly enjoy.

I've tried the French toast, the basic scramble egg recipe, the turkey chili, the basic tomato sauce, the chicken breast recipe using breadcrumbs, yeast and parmesean cheese, and the pork tenderloin recipe. My friend made the butternut squash soup. The recipes are easy to follow, simple, quick and the food comes out fresh tasting. The gorgeously healthy looking children and mothers are inspiring. I do love this book, however, she isn't to detailed with a few recipes. I believe it has to do with her no more than 7 steps. By doing this she has failed to be specific with cooking directions on a few recipes. I think if someone needed a step by step instructions they might have a little problem. I'm about to make the hummus from the cookbook and she calls for 1 can of chickpeas but she didn't say exactly how many ounces. There are 3 different can sizes at my grocery store :/ Other than those two small complaints I think the book is great.

This book is a definite addition to any parent's resource library on AS. It is comprehensive and has so much to offer, that it can't be digested in one read. It must be referred to over and over again. Should be purchased for pediatricians, school counselors and anyone who comes in frequent contact with your AS child. The entire family should read this to better understand the AS child.

Must have for the newly diagnosed

Easy to Follow and Delicious Recipes!

I love this cookbook! The recipes are easy to follow and delicious, believe it or not! Rebecca Katz's philosophy is to experience not only nourishment (so important for those dealing with cancer) but also enjoyment from food. She provides lots of friendly and helpful commentary on the recipes; it feels as if she is cooking right alongside me. I've been having fun cooking and eating again thanks to the delicious recipes like Chicken ... Roasted All The Way to Yum!, Anytime Crunch, Flourless Almond Torte, and Parmesan Crisps. Tonight I'm going to make Dark Leafy Greens with Caramelized Onions, Raisins, and Pine Nuts (hey if ya gotta eat greens, might as well make 'em sweet). I lent the book to my friend, an Acupuncturist, and now she's planning on buying a copy for herself.

Great for Everyone

We tried this book to cook for a friend going through chemo but quickly discovered that every recipe we made was not only extra-healthy but also absolutely delicious. Not a bad way to eat permanently! Some of the ingredients may appear hard to find, but we have had good luck sourcing them through Whole Foods. This is a terrific resource book even for experienced cooks.

Love it, Good Neutrition Info.

I recently purchased this book, although no one in my family is ill. I saw a copy in a doctor's office and thought the recipes looked so inviting and healthy, I wanted it in my collection. As it turned out, a friend came over whose mother is undergoing chemotherapy, and she took it home with her, which pleased me very much to be able to help her mother in that way. I am going to order another copy for myself and my family.

These foods aren't just for cancer patients...they're just plain good!

I bought this book for my sister who is beginning her chemo. The dishes we made together were so delicious I bought a copy of the book for myself. The Magic Mineral Broth is so good I keep a pitcher of it in the refrigerator and have a glass of it almost every day...yes, it's tasty cold. I'm fortunate my local grocery stores have a reasonable array of organic foods; the tiny local Asian market had most of the rest, and I made a trek to Whole Foods for the two items I couldn't find locally. The butternut squash stuffed with rice and the roast chicken (and subsequent roast chicken broth) are really "to live for."

I have used Dr. Claire Weekes' books on nervous suffering and agoraphobia for over 20 years, I highly, highly recommend them to fellow sufferers. I didn't have her audio, Pass Through Panic, so I purchased it. Delightful hearing her Australian accent as she 'walks' sufferers through their difficulties. Simple, easy to understand, in laymen's terms.

Dr. Weekes seemed to know that her job was not to motivate or inspire people, but instead, to help those who were suffering get well. In her books and tapes, she offers real hope to people, many of whom (as she acknowledges) might not have the energy to hope - yet. In these days of pop psychology

and trendy motivational products, Dr. Weekes goes right to the heart of the matter: that people suffering from panic attacks don't do so because of defects in their personalities, but because they've been sensitized to certain situations. Dr. Weekes helps us learn techniques to get past that sensitivity.

Her genius was in understanding exactly what her audience was going through emotionally. I've never heard any other doctor speak with such empathy. And by her example, she teaches us to be patient with ourselves while we're getting better.

I usually HATE self-help materials, but I love Dr. Weekes' work. She's one of my heroines.

Still relevant today

The advice Dr. Weekes provides is just as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. Nothing has changed. I have returned to Claire Weekes' work time and again. I don't mind her "old fashioned" wording and no nonsense approach to this condition. Everything she says is God's truth... and she does it in a non-frightening way. I've tried other programs, including Lucinda Bassett's. I still think Weekes' tapes are superior. I also recommend David Johnson's Freedom from Fear program, which is entirely based on Claire Weekes' work.

The only thing that helped!

Dr. Claire Weekes is the only one that I had come across in my journey to end my panic and anxiety attacks. After reading many of her books and listening to her tapes, etc., I finally got it. I suffered for over 5 years with debilitating attacks while being a single mom with 3 small children. After adopting Dr. Weekes philosphies, I have had a happy and emotionally healthy life. If ever I feel any major stress, all I do is remind myself of her face, accept, and float philosphy and it works to rid me of that anxious feeling. I highly recommend Dr. Claire Weekes materials for panic and anxiety disorder recovery.

The main argument that Claire Weekes makes in these talks is that fighting the feelings that are upsetting you actually prolongs them. Having suffered from anxiety and depression on and off throughout my life, I immediately knew that what she was saying was 100% true. When you're experiencing feelings that are painful and uncomfortable, your first response is to try to do whatever you can to make the feelings go away. But, since you can't, your sense of discomfort increases with your sense of desperation (why won't these feelings go away?) and a vicious cycle begins. The only solution is to accept what you're feeling, remind yourself that the feelings will not last forever, and go on with your life as usual as best you can. This may not seem like "brilliant" advice, but for those who have experienced this cycle firsthand, they'll recognize immediately just how right and insightful she is. Dr. Weekes goes into some detail about what brings on these feelings in the first place, why, no matter what we do, they don't always go away immediately, and how to best deal with this situation. Her words are very reassuring and right on target.

Definitely recommended.
