some anomalies in the book
Helpful Votes: 14 out of 24 total.
Review Date: 2002-09-28
The book presents some interesting thoughts and ideas. It has plenty of exercises and a few of them actually work (especially those for enhancing energy) BUT there are quite some anomalies in the book too.
First of all at the beginning of the book the dear doctor raves about how he has cured or helped curing a deaf person, persons with cancer and even a blind kid. How strange though that the doctor wears glasses ... what? he can cure blind people, but he can't even improve his own eyesight?? His "medicine" doesn't work for him?
Secondly, the doctor explains a few techniques in the book, one of which pertains to chanting various chinese number combinations and mantras in chinese. Depending on which part of the body you're healing there's a different number combination or mantra because each of these produce a different level of vibration when pronounced or chanted and thus help healing a particular part of the body. BUT suddenly there are two exercises where you have to chant "God's Blessings" and "God's Light"...well, so far for the theory about chinese words that produce different levels of vibrations. Why does he use english words now?...I have no idea. Why does he starts relying on God all of a sudden when he has been explaining throughout the whole book it's all about energy and energy movement?...I have no clue either. Do the english words induce a certain level of vibration...I doubt it, but let's say they do, then why can't he do the other exercises in english too. Why do we (=readers) need to learn number combination in chinese?
Albeit small thoughts, these thoughts make me a little sceptical towards believing the book's content, even although some of the exercises seem to work.
Maybe it's all in the head after all!

A friend gave me this book in Mid April, he said when he saw it at the bookstore, it just jumped out at him and he had to buy it for me. Diagnosed with Systemic Lupus 4 years ago, I recently began exploring alternative medicine, but I was getting frustrated with all the difficult and costly methods I found. I have always believed that my body could heal itself, I just didn't know how to help it. "Power Healing" is the answer I have been waiting for. I know nothing about Chinese Philosophy or any of the other Ancient healing arts, although I have heard of Reiki. This methods in this book work, regardless of any prior knowledge or belief.

I'd had the book for about 2 weeks, when a few days ago, I began having pain so severe that I was bedridden for 2 days. I decided to pick the book up and begin reading. I will admit that I was more than a little bit skeptical at first, but I made a conscious decision to suspend all disbelief and give the techniques a try. To my complete astonishment . . .It Worked! After doing the very 1st techinque for about 15 minutes, I was out of bed, pain free and full of energy, I even went out to join friends at a gathering. Knowing that I had been under the weather, they were all amazed to see me, and I couldn't stop talking about this amazing book.

I highly reccomend "Power Healing" to everyone. Try it, you've got nothing to lose, but your illness. I have only read the first few chapters, but I plan to continue the techniques until I am off all medications, and completly healed.

Thanks Dr Sha. ..

I like Dr. John Gray, had been studying different forms of healing for years. In fact, Dr. Gray and I studied together with Swami Kaleshwar, a famous mantra healing Master in India, several years ago. I"ve worked as an medical technician at Deepak Chopra's Ayurveda clinic in Lancaster, Mass., studied Thai Yoga massage, herbs, jyotish astrology and am a Reiki Master. I became a Holy Spirit healer with Dr. Fuller in Florida who is famous for dental healing where mercury/almalgam fillings actually turn to gold in your mouth before your eyes. I have also been a meditation teacher for over 20 years. I have studied complex systems, seen many miracle healings and witnessed miracles of healing in my own work. I am not easily impressed. At first Dr. Sha system just seemed a little to simple to be real. But the more I thought about it the more sense it made. Dr. Sha has synthesized all the elements that I knew worked in healing - prayer, sound therapy, physical postures, positive thinking, gratitude, etc. But the real "proof of the pudding" is in the eating. When I tried some of the mantras and exercises it was amazing. These deceptively simple procedures possess tremendous power. The first exercise to build energy in the Dan Tian really lit a fire in me. Later when I did a chi gung stance using the golden ball, the heat started in my body and a burning smell filled my nostrils. I found out later that this was a sign that the heavy metals were being burned up in the body. That night I went to sleep with the Book which he had energized at his workshop. I followed the instructions he gave and as I lay there with it the most powerful energy went through my body. It was very blissful but very intense. I feel something profound is happening in my system and am grateful to Dr. Sha and his teachers for this gift and hope in the future I may be able to study more deeply with him and help bring this healing to the world.

The next best thing to hearing Dr. Sha speak is reading his book, Power Healing. Filled with exercises and techniques to help one take charge of their own health, this book is easy to understand and very inspiring. I recommend it for anyone interested in alternative methods of healing to use in conjunction with more traditional Western medicine.

Ancient Knowledge Revealed

As a resident of Fairfield, IA - a community of meditators and people very familiar with alternative healing techniques - I was quite excited when hearing about Dr. Sha's book of ancient healing techniques which he had studied and mastered and was willing to share with the world. Two weeks before his arrival I came down with a flu bug and was still working with a depressed immune system, feeling slugish and tired and still some mucus in the lungs and a little cough. So I told one of his local coordinators I would not be able to attend and I was very disappointed because I had already purchased his book and was very enthusiastic about meeting him. She immediately put me in contact with Dr. Sha by phone. He asked me to close my eyes, hold my hands in a specific way and envision a golden ball. Immediately all symptoms were relieved. I attended the course. You can't get better than that. Since then I have been practicing the techniques, passing them on to others and having one marvelous experience after another. I would highly recommend this book and Dr. Sha's courses to everyone.

This man is an outstanding writer. Bringing a lot of scripture into modern thought process. Although he was born in a different era a little common sense can be applied to make it up to date. I for one will try to find more of his publications as it was very enlighten and gave me workable goals for my own self motivational behavior. The theories really work as I am finding new and better avenues opening up not to mention the fact that my spirit is uplifted. Worth reading . . . why heck yea, anything that can bring you closer to what you are intended to be on this earth is worth every penny . . . but hey, it's your life. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it:)

This is an excellent book for putting meat on the bones of many of the teachings in the movie "The Secret". I am glad I read it on my journey for understanding the power I have within to create the life I want but I am also glad I had already ordered the definitive book on this path before I started reading "Secret of the Ages".

To all those who will read or have read and enjoyed this book I beg you not to stop, You are almost exactly where you want to be, the next and final step is "The Genie Within" by Harry Carpenter. I don't work for the man or his publishing company I just want to get the word out to those of us on this quest for knowledge:You're almost there, don't stop now.

I found this book very inspiring. I was most impressed that this book has been around over 50 years, and the same issues (weight, finances, health, etc.) that afflicted people half a century ago are still present today, and yet the princples in the book are still applicable in present day.

Sometimes the most simple solutions are the most effective.

This is an excellent cookbook for anyone who cares about good food, health, the environment, and who wants to eat more locally-grown foods. It is arranged by season, with the main seasonal ingredients listed down the side of the page, and is VERY useable! If you find yourself with an abundance of tomatoes, say, you can easily find (in the summer section) all of the recipes that use tomato asa main ingredient. All the recipes I've tried have been very tasty, and not labor intensive. I also enjoy the little blurbs on different pages about sustainability and good stewardship of the earth.

This book is a must for all people considering a knee replacement. Especially important to get the book early enough that you can do all the pre-operative exercises to help you manage your post op better. Most surgeons just do not give you the whole picture of what the first year of your life will be like after the operation. To have a great outcome, you really need to know that your re-hab will continue long past what most insurance companies provide. This gives you the information to have the best possible outcome of your surgery. Thanks to the pysical therapist who had both his knees done, you see a very knowledgeable "insider" view of the total process. Get this book before your surgery!

I simply say "ditto" to what most of the other reviewers have stated. This is a real gem of a book. It wasn't until after my LTKR this past summer that I learned of the book. Once I received the book it has been at my side constantly. I'm now 5.5 months post and use the exercises in the book everyday. My faves: Pool Therapy, Futebol and the Balance Exercises. My OS was not familiar with the book so I sent him one as a "thank you" for my wonderful, new knee! It should be handed out to every TKR patient as part of their pre-op packet.

My left knee has been failing rapidly. . I have heard the good, bad and ugly about TKA. Thus I have purchased several books in the last few years. I will be so well prepared for my surgery (4 weeks away). This book has allowed me a be a TEAM player, and not just a patient. I already own a Total Gym, that is one piece of equipment suggested.
I know I will heal much faster due to the exercises I am doing now, and later after surgery. Technology in this field is advancing by leaps and bounds. Some of the info and details are almost outdated, but still covers all the bases. This book helped me have super communication with my surgeon and his staff. Hats off to Dr. Daniel J. Brugioni and Jeff Falkel, Ph.D. - Orthopedic Surgeons should write a pre-surgery prescription for this book!

I bought this for my mom who recently had her complete knee replacement surgery. When the physical therapist started coming over after the surgery, she looked over the book and started incorporating many of the exercises within in addition to the regular program she was doing. These have helped speed up her recovery and have allowed for the routine to change from session to session. By swapping exercises out, she maintains a varied yet beneficial recovery program. Although I got this after the surgery, the book also contains a lot of information for those who are considering having it done, including what to expect, how it's done, and other sections that help you plan ahead. Due to advances in knee replacement, the section on the surgery itself may be a little bit dated and does not include some of the newer procedures and materials used. All in all, an excellent and very complete book and one that anyone about the have knee replacement should definitely purchase and read

According to Tuttle, everything connects and stems off of our cultural and inherited belief systems, of which we were born into. The fact that we never question or test these beliefs, rather just accept them because it is easy and comforting to do so, is a core factor that he is forcing people to attempt to step out of the box and acknowledge. His desperate plea is for people to begin to recognize that what we "do unto others" is ultimately what we in turn do to ourselves as a culture. By inflicting harm, fear, forced obesity, forced pregnancy, robbing animals and their babies, forcing ill health, as well as brutal methods of confinement and killing, we are creating the stage for the exact same devastating problems to be bestowed upon ourselves as a human culture. It is a very deep and powerful message, with astounding accusations and connections, which most people would never even consider linking together on their own. However, with careful analysis and consideration, these accusations all begin to seem completely realistic and perhaps hold much truth.

In October 2007 in Kansas City I attended Will Tuttle's talk on The World Peace Diet. He is a peaceful, brilliant man with a passion for sharing the hidden truths--correlating animal commodity to the human dysfunctions on a global scale. Living with compassion for all beings is the way to deep spiritual happiness. I understand so much better the philosophy of being vegan since his talk. The whole experience has brought a wonderful sense of peace and clarity. A real aha moment. Will and his wife have been living in an RV for the past twelve years travelling the country and world dedicated to spreading the truth about compassionate towards animals, spirituality, veganism and so much more.

To quote Ghandi, "Be the change you want to see in the world." This book has brough me one big step closer. We are blessed to have Tuttle's wisdom captured in this beautiful book. It's like a vegan bible in respects to animal compassion. He's a voice for the animals.

As long as governments wage wars and people endure violence and oppression, compassionate individuals will ask themselves, "What can I do to make the world a more peaceful place?"
This book offers an answer. It contains eye-opening revelations about the food choices we make and the ramifications of those choices. It provides insight into how our food choices affect our attitudes toward our fellow creatures and toward other human beings. The book also explores the way our food choices impact the environment and human health.
Author Will Tuttle insightfully points out how the unimaginable cruelty of factory farming is suppressed and hidden away from the general public --- and from our own conscience. He demonstrates a link between the brutality and terror inflicted on factory farm animals and the brutality and terror human beings inflict on each other.
Unlike many animal rights advocates, Tuttle uses no disturbing images to make his points. He doesn't need to --- the facts he presents are shocking enough. His tone is informative, not vindictive, and his message draws upon examples from ancient history through the present day.
The book illustrates the total disregard factory farm practices have for an animal's natural instincts to socially interact, mate and nurture its offspring. It tells how extinguishing both human and non-human inclinations to nurture life and protect the vulnerable results in a culture of hardened, self-centered people who focus on the differences between themselves and others rather than the similarities. Tuttle sees this focus on differences, rather than similarities, as the fundamental problem behind many of the world's problems such as racism, elitism and war.
"The World Peace Diet," delves into the long history of today's profit driven factory farm operations. It reaches back thousands of years to show how nomadic life gave way to the domestication of animals and the herding culture that remains in practice today, with feed lots and factory farms. I found some of the historical anecdotes extremely enlightening. I didn't know the word, "capital," derives from, "capita," Latin for, "head;" as in head of cattle or sheep and how the first capitalists were ancient herders.
"The World Peace Diet," shows it's possible for anyone to diminish cruelty, violence and terror in the world by making compassionate food choices. The book advocates a vegan lifestyle that excludes the use or consumption of animal products. Tuttle examines the challenges of transitioning to veganism and shares his own experiences moving from a typical meat eating lifestyle to vegetarianism and, finally, to veganism.
With American attitudes inclined toward healthier lifestyles, and worldwide concern over diseases and contaminated food supplies, "The World Peace Diet," is a book for our times. It tells how the widespread, savage use of animals as commodities damages our health, our planet and our relationships with each other. At the same time, the book provides a solution; demonstrating how we can all make the world a more peaceful place through our daily food choices.

I have tried to read many books about yoga and the eight limbs, but for the most part, I usually get frustrated and feel disconnected and quit. Darren Main has done something very unique. He has woven some of the more difficult concepts (and quotes from those "frustrating" books) and brought it all down to earth. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to deepen their practice, but not quite ready to isolate themselves in to the wilderness. It is a great easy read and really inspiring.

I received this book as a baby shower gift before my first child was born, and I have to say, it was the most helpful gift I got. There is so much real, helpful information, including detailed guides on when to worry (and how much). A guide like that can do wonders for new parents, especially if you tend to jump right into panic mode at the first sign of trouble. When my pediatrician gave handouts at the end of the well-baby checkups, and many of them were taken directly from this book, I knew it was a winner. My oldest is 11 and it's still my go-to reference. I buy it every time I'm invited to a baby shower - it really is the best gift.

I am a RN and have used Dr Schmitt's book for years. I am glad to see a newer edition come out because my other book was all torn up! I currently work phone triage, but have also worked in a Pediatric office and Labor and Delivery. I tell so many new parents to buy this book! I buy it for shower and baby gifts as well. I can't imagine how many unneccessary trips to the ER this book has saved for parents.

I still use this after 10 years

I bought this book about 10 years ago (previous version) and I still refer to it today. I give it at all baby showers because it is so good. It has the right combination of home remedies and when to consult the pros.

I am not a big fan of diet books, but I decided to give it one more shot. My girl-friend Susan bought me this book about a year ago because she was not happy the way I look in hip-huggers. I had gotten lazy since I met Susan, as I thought I had met the partner for life. I let my appearance go and Susan was about to drop me for my ex-husband. Well, I started working out and following the lifestyle changes. Guess what? Susan is giving me a backrub as I write this, telling me that I have great bod and we should get into the tub.

So far I've read half the book and I'm fascinated at what I have learned. I'm looking forward to applying all the secrets and see the results. This is the motivation I needed to get off the junk and do what's good for me. Now I understand why eating very few calories but most of it being sugar has been making me gain weight. I don't eat fried foods or stuff myself I just eat too much sweets. There are more suggestions in here that I think everyone should know. We'll just see if this book is quackery as I read someone elses review. I'll report back in 30 days with the results!

Never thought I would turn to a diet book until my best friend turned me on to the book after hearing that I had refused to expose my thighs at a local softball tournament. It was 90 degrees and there I was, wearing a pair of sweats, vainly trying to cover-up my saddlebags. It has been about 9 months since then and I feel great and look great if I say so myself.I followed the instructions and worked out to the max.My lifestyle has changed, much to the chagrin of the local ice-cream parlor, which I single-handily supported during the winter months.
Thanks for a fun, easy to read book.

A WINNER!

Dr Erik Plasker's Book is a great read for anyone looking to take stock of their life. The main message revolves around the fact that many of us will live to be 100 and beyond, so we may as well start preparing for this increased longevity that not many of us have planned for.
"What changes would you make today, if you knew you would live to be 100?"
Health, finances, relationships, career, social, and more are looked at in this book.
What will we do with this advanced warning our ancestors didn't get?

This book is life changing! Realizing that we have all this time to accomplish things in life is an awesome feeling. I loved the comparison of cris care vs. self care. If people realized this and started practicing this we would have a healthier nation. I have personally given out over a hundred copies of this book and everyone for Christmas will be getting a copy!

Best book I've ever read!

I've given this book to more than 100 people. They are changing their lives from stopping smoking and loosing weight, to starting exercise. The people that take the message of the 100 year lifestyle to heart are playing harder and living a higher quality of life. Thank you Dr. Plasker for allowing me the privilege of helping so many people through your wonderful book.

Every once in a while a book comes along that is so good that I buy a couple of dozen to distribute to friends and loved ones. This book joins that very exclusive club (FYI my other two frequent giveaways are Dr Judith Orloff's Positive Energy: 10 Extraordinary Prescriptions for Transforming Fatigue, Stress, and Fear into Vibrance, Strength, and Love and Cheryl Richardson's The Unmistakable Touch of Grace: How to Recognize and Respond to the Spiritual Signposts in Your Life). This book is that great.

Dr. Eric Plasker has written one of the most powerful health books ever. The power lies in stretching our thinking by making clear that medical science has evolved to the point that living to one hundred has become a realistic possibility, as is having much improved vitality to whatever age we live. Dr. Plasker offers no silver bullets (thankfully!), just a great collection of proven things that we must personally manage if we are to avoid the life threatening stresses that come with the common overindulgent life style.

Many of the points raised by Dr. Plasker are treated at a summary level such that one's health philosophy and strategy must be supplemented by other resources (a point Plasker implicitly acknowledges by his inclusion of a thoughtful resource list at the end of the book). The need to supplement is not to suggest an absence of depth, but instead to suggest that the strength of the book lies in the presentation of a well thought-out, broad based platform for good health.

The true power of this gem is the clarity of the message that we may well live longer than we might think and that we need to manage the totality of our existence so as to maximize the likelihood that our remaining years are healthier. Clearly, other books have made a similar point but none which I have read have gone so far as to suggest things like a 100 year mastermind group (do you belong to such a group [yet]?).

Other reviewers have suggested multiple readings, family readings, etc. They are right on. This book is of the quality to serve as a guidebook for a better life. A guidebook that should be frequently referenced.

Dr. Plasker, you have made a great contribution to mankind with this book. You have done your part. We now have to get the book in the hands of more people, and serve as a personal role model for living the 100 year lifestyle. I, for one, am committed to doing my part.

Excellent holistic blueprint for health & longevity ....

Dr. Plasker presents a compelling blueprint for a hundred year lifestyle. Whether or not you seriously have a shot at living to be a centenarian, his advice here on health, diet, fitness and emotional/spiritual well-being makes eminent sense. It is truly a holistic approach to lifestyle and longevity that has merit. Making the book more practical is the fact that it has a number of checklists and each chapter closes with a list of action items for the reader to take. The latter underscores the point that merely reading a book will not improve your lifestyle unless you follow through, act and execute upon it.

Since Dr Plasker himself is a chiropractor, there is a pitch for preventative chiropractic care. His plea here is not over-the-top or in-your-face, however, and is probably well founded.

The author's point is that many lifestyle changes can produce long-term positive results. In many cases, though perhaps not all, certain types of illness are products of lifestyle and tiny diet and fitness decisions made over the course of months and years. Making better fitness and health decisions every day can put extra years in your life and life in your years.
