The Sports Nutrition Guidebook is a useful resource for the average, healthy individual to have at hand as a nutritional resource. This book is more of a healthy living guide, than a sport specific guide, Individuals who are engaging in sports that require a lot of anaerobic activity, like football or baseball will not find this book as useful, but they will still find some great instruction. For endurance sports such as running or cycling, or for the general weekend warrior looking to have nutrition be a part of a healthy lifestyle, that is not concerned with larger than normal weight loss, this book is a good esource.

While basic advice is well-written here, that shouldn't be really new to anyone who is familiar with good nutrition: a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, and dairy; and the importance of regular meals, some care is taken to readjust thinking about fad diets and dietary myths, especially in preparation for physical activity. Unbalanced approaches to carbohydrates, fluid, protein, etc. and their dangers are detailed in an easy to understand format. The chapter on misusing a healthy lifestyle for rapid weight loss or other eating disorders is tactfully written.

The last third of the book is a useful recipe guide that applies principles taught in the book into practical meal planning steps that are neither arduous nor difficult for active individuals to adapt to. Creating a healthy approach to the body, especially in view of a fat obssessed society calls for balance and patience. There is nothing sudden or radical about the advice in this book, as it is above all, caling for a lifestyle that is healthy and active and is designed to provide nutrional advice for helping individuals achieve those goals. This book is a great resource for active people, who want sound, scientific advice that meets the needs of individuals in today's fast paced society.

I teach sports nutrition to college students. This book has been great because it helped me relate general nutrition to the athlete. The information is accurate and the examples are very helfpul. Nancy Clark also adds informative tables that relate to sports nutrition. I recommend this book to athletes and nonathletes alike.

This was written before the internet age, but it's totally relevant today. It's about a girl who has it all (looks, brains, etc.), and then she discoveres she has cancer. She meets a guy in the hospital, someone who understands everything she's going through, and they start dating.

I liked this book because so many dating books sort of exist in a world where no one gets sick, and here, real life pops up and gives everything perspective. On the other hand, just because these characters get really ill doesn't diminish how important love and relationships are. Melissa and Ric still have sexual feelings and go through what all teens go through in relationships.

This was the first Lurlene McDaniel book I've read, and I plan to read as many as I can!

"The diagnosis is lymphocytic leukemia, Melissa. It's a form of cancer." This book puts you in the place of 16-year-old Melissa. She seemed to be a normal teen, living her life to the fullest. She was beautiful with long, thick, black hair, which would soon be gone. Her best friend, Jory, was always with her, and her all-time crush started to like her! She was even nominated to go out for the Brain Bowl, which was always her dream. Everything was going her way until she was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, leukemia. She couldn't just live anymore; she had to fight for her life. A never-ending battle was going on in her body. Melissa's struggle between life and death really will make you see things from a different point a view.
I recommend Too Young to Die by Lurlene McDaniel to any person that wants to know what facing reality can be like. It is hard for people who haven't experienced loss, to understand. McDaniel does a remarkable job clarifying the situation and taking you on a journey through the eyes of Melissa, while battling her cancer. Many people die everyday of cancer, heart disease, and other dreadful causes. Think about how fortunate you are compared to many of these people that don't even know if they are going to be alive tomorrow.

Her books are the best!!!

When someone gave me this book in fifth grade, I put it aside and didn't read it right away. Boy was I glad when I finally started reading. It was one of the best books I've ever read. Well, back when I was in fifth grade. I'm in eighth grade now, and I still like this book.

Melissa is 16 and starting her junior year, which is looking pretty good. The most popular boy in school has taken an interest in her, and there's a pretty good chance she'll make the brain bowl team (kinda like the math thing in 'mean girls', only math and science). Melissa and her best friend, Jory, are physced. They're about to have a great year! Then Melissa starts finding bruises everywhere, and gets put in the hospital for some tests. The outcome isn't good. Melissa has cancer. Melissa, a perfectly healthy 16 year old, now has cancer. It didn't seem possible. Melissa sees her perfect junior year going right down the drain. The chemo she takes to fight off the cancer leaves her sick, and now the most popular boy in school ignores her. Then she meets Ric. Ric's knows what she's going through. He had half his leg amputted to save his body from cancer. With the help of him, Jory, and her family, Melissa is learning how to cope with cancer. She was so mature for a 16 year old, dealing with cancer. I hope I would have the guts to be as brave as Melissa Austin if I ever got sick like that.

There's a sequel to this book, so be sure to read it when you finish this. It's not as good, but it's still worth reading. It focuses more on Jory.

This is the best book on ADHD that I have read! Sometimes the scenarios were so right on that I felt like the author must live in our house. I feel like I have a much better understanding of my daughter since reading the book. I put into practice some of the tips right away and noticed results immediately. Before reading this, I was still questioning my daughter's diagnosis but not anymore. This book may have saved my daughter's self-esteem as I now feel confident with how to help her get through her hard times.

My daughter's pediatrician recommended this book. It is a look into my daughter's present struggle with an explanation of "why" & how to help. It gives insight into her future struggles & how to prepare & possibly even avoid some situations. It explains the DIFFERENT way ADHD affects girls than boys! Highly recommended!

would have helped me understand my daughter, and myself, better. This book presents the research in a way any parent can understand. It also let me know what to expect for the future. Most of the books I've read ignore the differences between ADD in boys and girls-- not this one. This book should be handed to parents of ADD girls as soon as the diagnosis is made, if not sooner.

Glad I got it.

After being frustrated and watching my daughter start to fail I was finally able to convince teachers that she had a problem with add, just because your daughter is not bouncing off the walls doesn't meant there isn't a problem. This book help me to explain many painful experiences so that the staff was able to finally step in and help. My daughter is now in excelled classes, not on meds and yes we still have our interesting days but we are able to handle them better. Our social worker used this book to give an inservice during the summer. Teachers are often taught to identify boys who cause problems as add candidates. Girls who are day dreamers or chatty cathys are overlooked, and often highly intelligent children mimic add qualities, and are just 'hardwired' differenly, they can be seen as challenging authority and problems, too often used as tutors to their classmates, when they get home is when they have a melt down, but being people pleasers somehow hold it together all day at school and save it for mom. Get the book! It saved our family.

I am not a very emotional person, and I found myself crying at least once every chapter. This is a very sad book. I don't recommend it if you are under the age of 10, because the words are small, and the emotions just make you want to reach out. I am very touched by this book. It is DEFINITLY A MUST READ. This is my favorite book I have ever read - and I have read ALOT OF BOOKS

I thought this book was very good. It talked about a girl who ends up getting a form of cancer called leukemia. She meets people in the hospital who like her and don't like her. During her difficulties in the hospital some zebras come to her and she thinks their not real but what she comes to find out is that she is the zebras assigned human. She goes back and forth to her assigned zebra herd. This is a great story for people who like to act like their in the book.

This book goen into depth just how bad cancer can be. You may car at the end. When I frist read it I did the way she dies is so sad. Anyway you get to see how things work for getting rid of cancer. You also will see how couagre is thouht and how Becky stands up for herself. This such a good book! I think there should be a second one to it. It would tell what happens after Zink and how her faimly is doing.

I've read Zink countless times since I got in the 4th grade. Every night, I sit down and go to my favorite parts of the book, and then shead a tear or two as I lay down to sleep.

Ever since I first read Zink, I started looked at my own life closer. I noticed how lucky I was to have my hair, not be sick all the time, and not always have Lukemia on my mind. This book is so inspiring for everyone. And in more ways than one. Ever since I read the book, I have been planning my own book to write about Lukemia, called Bald and Beautiful. Although no book could top zink, I think I will give my planned book a shot.

True courage is admitting that you are scared but continuing to fight. I have applied this to every day life, from math tests to track meets, riding rollar coasters to standing up in front of a bully. Every day, when I'm about to face something scary, I try to have true courage. And before I read Zink, I never knew what true courage was.

Zink is a great book that I reccmond to all my friends. I actually like how Becky dies at the end, though it is very, very, sad. Before you protest and stop reading this review, please listen to my reason. Two years ago, my best friend was diagnosed with Lukemia. And today, sadly to say, she isn't hear anymore. Not all people will live, and Zink teaches you that.

Knowing what Chemo is like, the book does a great job of telling people all the horrible, horrible details. I was with my friend almost every day when she was having Chemo, and I was right outside her room when she was having her TBR. And I remember when she got her BMT so clearly, that just reading this book brought back so many memories.

All in all, if you want a really good read, with totally real facts and plots, than Zink is for you.

I love the receipes in the book. The only thing I have a problem with is that the book states that "No more weighing", however it does not explain what an actual serving size is, it mentions briefly that you can weigh your food to get an idea of what a serving is, and then use your judgement from then on. Well, being someone that is over weight and has a problem with determining what an actual serving is poses a HUGE problem. That would mean, I WOULD have to weigh my food to figure out whether I am eating a serving or more. The title of the book is misleading, as well as the excerpts on the back and front cover.

I bought this cookbook back in 1993 and have been using the recipes in it ever since. I get so many requests for the recipes I've made from it I have bought extra cookbooks to give out to people as gifts. The title is deceiving because it doesn't seem like those bland old diet cookbooks that you usually get. I lost the weight that I wanted to lose and have maintained my weight by keeping these recipes on hand. Also, I love that the cookbook has a picture for every recipe which is rare in most cookbooks. As stated earlier in someones comments about the serving size......It states how many servings the recipe makes they just figure you can divide equally.

I loved the pictures! I own alot of cookbooks, and this one has fast become my favorite. I liked the Classics section as well as the easy-to-understand calorie needs/bmi explanation in the front of the book and the 14-day menu planner. It contains good old fashioned dinners as well as easy gourmet-type delights. My husband is excited about this too! My whole family will enjoy losing weight while eating great tasting food without feeling they are on a diet!

My husband and I lost a total of 100 pounds in 5 months by using the delicious recipes in this book. The food is tasty, easy to prepare, and satisfying. The variety of foods from the traditional to the more exotic or ethnic gives the range of choice often missing in "diet" books. I have purchased this book as a gift for several friends who have also found it enjoyable.

Diet is an important part to health, and this book has a lot of good advice in that respect. However, one must always be circumspect when it comes to these types of self help books on cancer. Diet is not necessarily a ready cure for cancer, but it is an important part of the journey.

My wife was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2001 and succumbed to her cancer in March 2005. I only discovered Bill's first book six months before she died and had multiple conversations with him at the time. He was compassionate and patient and knowledgeable.

This book builds on his first one and is the best book on the market in terms of letting the reader know about the causes of cancer, why the pharma industry fights non-toxic approaches and what resources and approaches are available to the layperson who is struggling with cancer or is the caregiver.

I wish I had known about these approaches earlier. I have myself begun to research the role of sound vibrations in healing and have just released a healing chant called The Magic of Gayatri.

Kudos to Bill Henderson for putting this valuable resource together!

My research is brain cancer so it is a bit trickier to use certain things but I know now there are other possibilities besides radiation and chemo which in many cases is just extending life but at a horrible quality. There is so much information it became a bit overwhelming so I suggest reading with a big notepad beside you to take notes. I would recommed and encourage anyone to read this book.

He's Not Autistic, But. . . by Teena Merchant

Teena Merchant has written a very timely, amazing book that allows us to share the struggles she has gone through with her son, Clay.

This family's struggle to find the reasons for her tiny son's illness is heroic. After going to countless medical professionals and finding no solution for her son's illness, she persevered and finally found that alternative medicine was able to diagnose and treat her son thereby keeping him from regressive Autism.

Every parent of a young child should read this book. It gives hope to others who may be going through undiagnosed problems with their own children.

Congratulations Ms. Merchant.

Tenna Merchent's honest account of her efforts to recover her little boy "on the brink" of autism addresses the many elements necessary for recovery when a family is confronted with the trainwreck of metabolic causes and issues that underlie this disorder which the medical community still overlooks in diagnosing autism as a whole-body disorder (as opposed to simply a "behavioral problem"). For any parent starting out on this rocky road, I would recommend this book. Merchent's relentless and brutally honest inquiry led her to some unconventional cures. Her faith, courage, and trust in herself as the trailblaxer of her child's return to health demonstrates clearly what it takes to get the job done. For other parents starting down this path, this book is a warm companion. You will no longer feel that you are alone.

It was like this Christian author opened my life and wrote a book about it. The amazing part was that I was not reading the book for information on autism, it was recommended so I could learn about alternative healing for cancer and other illnesses. What was so amazing is my child had very similar problems without the autism.....multi allergies..he beat his head from headaches, etc. and I too was sick and exhausted all the time. The medical field was ruining my sons little 18 month old body. I am rescued by honest people like Tenna Merchent who share the key to what God intended us to have. Healthy body and mind Naturally. Take note....We ALL can learn.

Reviewed by Dr. Carol Hoyer for Reader Views (2/08)

Ms. Merchant, if nothing else, is an exceptional mother and advocate for her child who the medical profession felt "at a high risk for autism." The long journey she and her family made for two years to figure out what was going on with her son, as well as herself, was long, hard and often heartbreaking. I can think of no family that I have worked with during my tenure as a Psychologist with families with special needs that did a complete 360-degree turn as Ms. Merchent did.

At times during the reading of this book, I almost felt as if Ms. Merchent was almost aggressive to the point of being annoying. However, after reading all the failed treatments, diagnosis and pushing of vaccines by medical personnel she had a right to be this way.

My knowledge by reading this book has only added reinforcement to my own professional views that doctors aren't always right. I also found the information she provided on toxic aluminum and systemic yeast very informative and something I think every child should be tested for while looking at diagnosis of autism. Since alternative medical treatments have not been overly publicized, it is one area that I think all parents should explore. I know I found her experiences with alternative medicine exciting and least harmful to the body.

This reader not only as a parent, but as a professional, would recommend "He's Not Autistic, But..." be reading for every parent, parent-to-be, special education personnel and school resource staff as well as up and coming medical professionals.

I wasn't too impressed with this book. While it had a lot of info in it, I learned more through my research online. I expected a lot more from this book based on the preview and other reviews.

Scary but informative

The book does provide some good information and some other things to consider as you deal with your child's allergies. However, I do find that it tends to a bit extremist in some cases.

The best book for those with allergies!!!

My child has severe dairy allergies and this book helped me with so much. I now carry his medicine/epi pen in a special bag with all the vital information. Also, this book helped me to know that we are not alone and it gave me so much great information when going places with my child, even to friends/family. I recommend this book to anyone who has just discovered their child has allergies. A must have!!!

Of all the allergy books I have read, yours is the only one that advised us as a Mom! So many tips and information that are so very important, but not so obvious. I am delighted to tell you we have had a safe, accidental exposure-free experience thus far with my son's life threatening allergies, and I feel this book is the main reason. My allergist is great, but he doesn't give all the day to day hints and information you have provided. Thank you for your book!

Excellent - even for moms experienced with food allergies

I've been living with a severely food allergic child (milk, eggs, nuts, soy) for eight years, and have subscribed to the FAN newsletter all that time, so I am hardly a newbie when it comes to food allergies. And I just LOVE this book. I was pleasantly surprised by the wealth of completely practical information it contained. She has excellent ideas for traveling with a food allergic child. Her recommendations about making your home a safe zone and letting your child play at other homes are spot on. Her comments about school and outings are great. She doesn't miss a thing. And I gained lots of ideas, like having a separate section of the freezer for "Becca-safe" foods, that are making my life easier.

I love her tone, too. She is clear and easy to understand. She is so realistic, and so calm, "Don't expect too much from other people" is so true, because even well-intentioned people just make mistakes. Unfortunately, you always have to be on guard.

One option she did NOT mention regarding school lunches is for your child to sit at a tray table placed at the end of the cafeteria table. This is what my child is doing, plus they do not let children drinking milk or eating yougurt or "spillable" dairy products sit near her. So far, this has worked well for our daughter.

My daughter is now eight, and she is starting to seem depressed about her food allergies, and I would have loved more information about how to help her deal with the emotional aspects of food allergies. And perhaps more information about what to expect when she reaches puberty, the age when some kids start to be rebellious and to take risks. Although, the author was writing from personal experience and her son outgrew his dairy allergy at age 11.5 (so there is hope yet, dear Becca), so perhaps that is why the book ends where it does.

Anyway, this is the number one book I will recommend to parents of children who are newly diagnosed with food allergies - and even those who have been dealing with it for a while but want some new ideas or advice about specific problems.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2MUJO4VDU1KKJ Just to refresh your memory, a Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. The Americanized form consists of three lines. The first line contains five syllables; the second line seven syllables; the third line five again.

I hope you enjoy watching this Haiku Review. After writing reviews with hundreds of words, it can be challenging to sum up a book with a mere seventeen syllables.

This book is full of eroticism, joy, tips about sex and love. This book is a manual comprising great knowledge for a wonderful relationship with your partner and, most fundamentally, with yourself. In the first part, the book offers solutions in the form of techniques, testimonies and advice to help people to grow spiritually and psychologically, and feel loved. It will also help you understand, change and transform the negative feelings you have about yourself and your partner, for the sake of harmony. The second part of the book is dedicated to different very creative sex techniques that can contribute to improve a relationship, be it a new flame or a well-settled relationship.

Absolutely Fabulous: Oprah's magazine recommended it

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants insight into building a better relationship. It helped me understand a lot of things. So many examples and facts, gave me so much insight. I recommend this book to any & every woman and man out there. I wish I would have read this book 5 years ago! It can help you raise your sexual awareness and become a true sexual being, not someone who just acts it out and makes all the right moves. You can learn to really connect with yourself and your partner on a sexual and spiritual level. I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn'tThis is a book about eroticism and love and how to become an erotic lover on the purest level.
This is a perfect example of what a book on sex and love should be. Thank you to the author for taking the time to write this, it was the most useful book I have ever read.

This book rocks: I really love it!!!

I really think it is worth your money, and more. This is a book that works. Try putting any of the suggested
techniques into practice... they do work, and wonders at that too. Everything's clearly explained with step by step guidelines. Iam makes you aware of things I'm sure you've never even imagined were relevant. It's a real epiphany, mindblowing. Guaranteed to make you change. And the approach is just so great I was going through a stage in my life when sex had become boring and routine and my relationship was on the rocks. This book is one of the reasons I got myself going again. Simply, it makes you want to try things out, which is something that cannot be said of many of the books of this type.
