I have bought many books from this series and found this one to be my favorite. This book is a must for the animal lover. I will read a few stories before bed every night. Some stories bring tears to my eyes and others make me simle from ear to ear. Great book that people of any age will love!!

My 10 year-old son tried reading it,and thought the stories were too sad, but I adore this book. Very sweet, humbling stories about good people and good animals.

I really enjoyed this book. The main reason I liked it is because it is all about cats and dogs, and I am a hardcore animal lover. Another reason I liked it is because the stories are not made up in someone's mind. These stories are real stories that real people lived through. The last reason I liked this book so much is because you don't have to read it like an ordinary book. You can read it like I did and just jump around to stories that sound good to you, instead of reading the book cover to cover.

In this volume, Mr. Canfield and crew have compiled a smorgasboard selection of short stories about pets who fortify us and make life bearable. Especially poignant to me was "the medicine cat" as I, too, had one named Tosca. She gave up the ghost a few months ago at the age of eighteen years, as I had no way to get to her when she needed support of the kind she gave to me several years ago. They recognize the special love and devotion of animals to bless our hearts and homes.
"Cat lovers will tell you that felines are 'poetry in motion,' living sculptures at rest, and that the warm weight of a purring cat...is a surefire cure for all that ails you."
It is the physical acts of love to bring the gift of life as expressed in "The Healing Touch." I cried as I read "The Language of the Heart" about an unusual rabbit and his healing the hurt of a little girl who'd turned inward and no longer could talk. Something had died in that child which this loving rabbit cured. His innocence and trust had rekindled the same qualities in the child. The loving presence of an animal can heal where words have no effect. Alas, Roger Rabbit bit the tip off my little finger one day, which led me to the ER for a Saran-wrap bandage (to stop the bleeding -- a bandaid wouldn't work) and a tetanus shot. Needless to say, I found him another home.
"A small gesture -- the insistent tap of a cat's paw" about Jack, an adopted stray kitten (like Dante in Troy, Alabama), who grew into Ellen's savior. He woke her from a daydream of tragedy; Star woke me up with that same gesture over and over so that I would not strangle from Acid Reflux. Pets do love and care for their owners. This volume is one I will treasure for years to come. It is full of memories about pet owners' animals, not just cats and dogs.

This book is all you need, beyond the bible, if you are seriously interested in divine healing. It should be noted that this book is written by someone who was very successful in the healing ministry,
as distinct from those who merely theorize. This is an excellent book!

I had purchased this book from a used book store and have enjoyed this along with other healing classics, including the works of John G Lake, Smith Wigglesworth, Ministry of Healing by AJ Gordon, and even some of E.W. Kenyon's writings. Though some may not like the personal history of FF Bosworth (e.g. Dealings with J. Alexander Dowie or William Branham), this book explains poignantly the essential doctrine of divine healing and the rights of the Christian to claim what has been given to them in the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Many were touched by his ministry and he had the humility to repent of wrongs he had believed or done (British Israelism). This book will challenge and move you to believe Jesus Christ for a complete salvation (body, soul and spirit) and will increase your faith in what He is willing to do in your life today. No longer will you say, "If it be thy will.." for your healing because it is already His will and now you'll know to lay hold upon the promise, ask in faith and receive what has been purchased for you. Read this book today...

Definitely a book worth reading. For those who doubt that God still heals today, well that's sad for one thing, but this is a book that can help inspire you to get past those doubts, of course along with the Bible also.

I love every recipe I've tried in this book, and all of them are easy to follow, fun to make, and taste excellent. These recipes and all of the tips throughout the book have made cooking much more enjoyable for me, and they always come out great.
I stayed away from the meat recipes at first (I only occasionally eat a little meat nowadays), but I have found that some can be made without meat and are excellent! For example, the lamb curry with saffron couscous tastes amazing with no meat at all. The flavors of the indian curry spice mixture in this recipe is the best I've ever tasted anywhere and is perfect for veggies with either basmati rice or the couscous.
The salad dressings are also amazing. I had never tried a salad dressing with roasted walnut or hazelnut oils before, and it's so wonderful and brings out the flavors in a salad. They're so simple to make, I never buy the bottled kind at the grocery store at all anymore, and it tastes so much better and fresher when it's homemade.
There are lots of healthy, nutritious and at the same time delicious recipes, just real and delicious whole food with a ton of variety. The cookies recipes are great too!

This is fast becoming my new favorite cookbook. I have only tried a few recipes so far: Seared Scallops, Artichokes with Jalapeno Arugala aioli, Fusion Cole Slaw, and Cheesy Zuchini. They were all excellent. I look forward to creating many more. The pictures make me want to make all the recipes, just beautiful!

This book has very easy to follow recipes. I haven't made one yet that I didn't like. I highly recommend trying the corn chowder (which is wonderful in a bread bowl), the foggy day chili (it's really spicy, I downsized on the chili powder) and the chicken satay skewers with the peanut dipping sauce.

A great cookbook also tells a story. This is a wonderful story of a family, a business, and filled with incredible recipes. The discussion of why organic and the types of foods that are best for you start the reader off. There are personal touches with photos that make the reader feel a part of their story (so to speak). The recipes have history to them and are excellent. It is good sized book and is more than worth the price paid. A must for the serious cook or someone just getting started and wants to explore great food possibilities

I recently received a copy of The Earthbound Farm Organic Cookbook, Food to Live By, by Myra Goodman with Linda Holland and Pamela McKinstry, from Lillian Margolin, an intern at Earthbound Farms. As soon as I had pulled the book from it's box, I started reading and couldn't stop. I even found myself reading it by candlelight that evening so I wouldn't disturb my infant daughter sleeping nearby.
I was captivated by the story of the young couple, Drew and Myra Goodman, living on a farm in exchange for property improvements, and selling raspberries to help pay the bills. Captivated because it's exactly the sort of thing I would do myself.
It's hard to believe that Earthbound Farms came from such meager beginnings considering just how large they are now. I think one of the most fun facts about them is that they were the first to introduce and sell pre-washed bagged salads. I don't know of anyone who hasn't purchased bagged salad, and it was neat to read that Earthbound Farms is where that idea was born.
This cookbook has quickly become one of my favorites, and I can see myself turning to it often. The recipes are fabulous--there is no ingredient so foreign that it can't be found--or at least a suitable replacement--nearby. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow and each recipe has a little history or fact written about it. That's something I truly appreciate, since the recipes in my own family cookbook all have a little something written about them. That extra makes the book very personal and also tells the reader that each recipe has actually been made, and loved, by the author, Myra Goodman.
The photos are beautiful and story-telling. This book is not just packed with over 260 delicious recipes, it's full of helpful tips and interesting facts; Myra's 'Four Food Choices I Live By' is something everyone should read, and heed. I also love that it's not just a cookbook, the story it begins with could easily stand on it's own.
A short time ago an acquaintance suggested I use 'X-Product' on my tomatoes, and I just nodded politely, all the while thinking, "WHY would I put a chemical on, in or near my food and then feed it to my family?" No thanks--garlic and marigolds planted near my tomatoes have provided all the protection I need. Reading this book has made me feel completely vindicated in my own gardening practices, which I didn't really see as organic until now.
I made the granola (which can also be purchased at the Earthbound Farms website) just before my oldest daughter took off on a camping trip. She and her friends loved it, as did the rest of my family. So we've eaten it straight up, as a cereal with cold milk, and as a hot cereal one morning. The only thing I did differently was to use chopped, dried apricots in place of the raisins; I love raisins, but I have a few 'raisin-haters' here.
If you love vegetables, if you're striving for a healthier body and earth, please pick up a copy of this cookbook, you'll come to appreciate and love it as much as I do!

Please be aware that this book is now published by Square One Publishers and has been since earlier this year. To get brand-new copies of this book, you need to go to the "other" product page for the book HEY! WHO'S HAVING THIS BABY ANYWAY? as listed on this website. It doesn't presently have the "Search Inside the Book" feature at that product page, but the book is immediately available to be ordered over at that other product page. So to paraphrase Dylan (a.k.a. Zimmerman), "This ain't the book you want, babe / Go to the other page." Now go have those babies over at the "other" product page . . .

I wasn't thrilled with this book. I found it a little didactic (albeit in an overly breezy style)--not the book for people who aren't sure about natural birth; it'll make middle-of-the-road moms feel inadequate.
The style is blog-like and too personal to the author at times for an instructive book, in my opinion. The section that's nothing more than quoted emails is interesting for a couple of pages, then becomes overkill; I felt like I was reading a message board.
I noted numerous typographical errors (including a major one in statistics that was corrected with an errata sticker), which detracted from the professionalism of the book.
The section on Cytotec is excellent, with an appropriately firm stance, and the facts and documents to back that up.

I had the pleasure of attending one of Ms. Hawk's workshops recently and found it so informative. The information in this book is not new - it's just written in a way that the layperson can understand. Ina May Gaskin and Henci Goer have lots of great information about the unfortunate state of childbirth in the US, but Breck Hawk has "broken it down" for the average expectant mom without condescending. I highly recommend it!

As both a childbirth educator and a labor doula, I find this book has great (and accurate) information, with worksheets that are perfect for discovering what you want as a pregnant woman, good research to help backup all the claims, PLUS it's written by a midwife! I could go on and on, so just put away that copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and get this one instead! Inform yourself and respect your baby!

I was disappointed by Ms.Porter's lack of a bibliography to back up some of the more controversial content in the book. Dairy causes wet spots in your lungs? (just one example that she never explains)
She seemed to shoot from the hip without backing up her statements. I am sure she is not a medical professional nor a nutritionist and should not be representing this information as remotely factual. The fact that she prefaces many of these statements with the wording that 'it can be debated' does not let her off the hook. The publishers should have demanded better. Anything can and will be debated. Most authors do not write books amounting to conjecture and have someone buy it. I am glad that I did not pay full price. I hope that people do their own research before taking parts of this book as the truth. Talk with your physician.

This is a wonderful book. However, I downloaded it to my new Kindle and immediately had problems reading the first Table even after adjusting to the largest font. I wrote customer service today thinking they would back it up with a text copy or some refund but they just said this will happen and side-stepped the issue. I don't really find this an acceptable policy when a very important part of the book is unreadable.

This book is amazing! Since I knew nothing about macrobiotics before I read it, I was skeptical. The farther in I got the more the concepts began to make sense. It is written in plain english and very easy to understand. It's also very funny, making it a pleasure to read. I highly recommend this book!

Although this is rather a 'fun' read it does not provide a compelling reason to follow a macrobiotic diet, after you have finished the book. The author appears to be committed to the macrobiotic diet to a lesser extent than I expected, given that she was writing a book on the topic. Her admissions to still indulging in french fries and other junk food, while at the same time extolling the virtues of giving macrobiotics your all seems contradictory to say the least. Sure, we all fall of the wagon (whatever that means for each of us) at times but Ms. Porter's descriptions of forbidden cravings and lapses seemed a lot more than that.
I was also dismayed to read that all the nightshade plants are forbidden on this diet, including tomatoes and potatoes. No way could I commit to that.
Not the worst dietary book I've read but certainly not the best. Try it from the library first, before investing in a copy for yourself, if you are seriously looking for answers re: macrobiotics.

I have read and reread this book many times since purchasing it several years ago. The book is like sitting down with an old girl friend and chatting. It is an easy read, but at the same time, explains macrobiotics very well, as well as giving a good memoir of the author's journey into macrobiotics. The book is peppered with recipes, many of which i have made, and each one of those a success. I often go back to this book and reread sections to keep me on track in my own marobiotic practice.

This year I decided to get "healthy". I wanted to implement an exercise program and establish good habits in my early 20s so that they would be with me all my life. I never planned on dieting-it just happened. I didn't even know I was on a diet (or 20!) Dieting is EVERYWHERE. We are a nation obsessed and somewhere along the way we forgot what food is about. I became obsessed with food. I tried Eat Right For Your Type, The Goddess Diet, Slim Fast, Vegetarianism, food combining, I did a juice fast...At first it seemed like a healthy hobby. Then out of no where the binge eating began! And the GUILT. I have never been heavy, but I was utterly brainwashed into having a "fat" mind! This book is completely changing my life. I am no longer concerned about when I will be able to eat next and what I will eat-AS I am eating something else! I no longer binge eat. I actually enjoy being hungry as I know my next meal will taste better-and I allow myself to eat whatever I want (without guilt. And I usually really do Want healthy food, too!). I experience satisfaction with the eating experience. My energy level is MUCH better now that I do not see grains as the enemy. I am not piling protein in my body that I do not need or even want. I eat slowly now, knowing that I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want. I NO LONGER FEEL THE NEED TO CLEAN MY PLATE! But most importantly, I accept myself and TRUST myself! This paradigmn shift has spilled over in other facets of my life as well. I cannot praise this book enough. It accomplishes all this and has a non diet mentality throughout. I do not feel the need to read or recommend another diet (or anti-diet) book along with this-it was good enough for me and has ended my obsession with food. I am so GRatEFUL this book was written-I would be probably "living" a half life if it wasn't...
One of the most important books I've ever read!

I didn't buy this book because I wanted to lose weight. I am an athlete who is at an ideal weight, but I was so strict with my eating that I had become obsessed with food. Daily weighing along with counting calories, protien, and carbs consumed a good portion of my days. The need to eat so perfectly inevitably led to uncontrollable binges about once a week. I bought this book because I wanted to lead a more normal life, where food didn't consume my thoughts and define the success or failure of a day. The principles in the book are completely logical and the authors are good to back up their theories with plenty of empirical data. They clearly lay out why it is so crucial to abandon the diet mentality in order to stabilize or lose weight. I now know that no food is off limits anymore and I am becoming more in tune to what my body is telling me it needs. No more binging, weighing or number crunching. Freedom at last!

This has got to be one of the best books ever written! I can't tell you how much it has improved my life. I was in a diet downward spiral. Every day I hated myself more and more because I couldn't stick with a diet. This book has freed me and allowed me to begin to love myself again. I feel better than I have in years. I have started taking better care of myself and I am learning to pay attention to what my body needs. I think anyone who struggles with food, whether their overweight or not, should read this book ASAP. You'll be glad you did.

This book is designed for chronic dieters, and it takes a unique approach. We've all heard "diets don't work," and these authors, both nutritionists, agree. However, rather than saying that diets don't work, you must learn to eat healthy instead, authors Tribole and Resch say diets don't work, you must learn to EAT WHATEVER YOU WANT. Sounds crazy, doesn't? However, a cornerstone of the theory set forth by the authors is that dieting leads to deprivation, and deprivation leads to binge eating, which produces weight gain, not loss. The authors argue that once people learn to eat intuitively--which includes choosing satisfying foods, recognizing when you are full, realizing the reasons behind why you eat, etc.--most people will attain their natural healthy weight.
Still skeptical? The authors are quite convincing, although their approach is not a weight loss plan per se. They point out that for those who have an unrealistic weight ideal, eating intuitively will probably not help them to lose weight. However, for those who have dieted for years without success (again, the book's main intended audience is chronic dieters), intuitive eating will help them to develop normal eating and exercise patterns, which will in turn naturally lead to a healthy weight.
I found many of the ideas in this book to be quite powerful. For example, even though I'm in a normal weight range, there are countless times that I've told myself unhealthy messages about food and eating, such as thinking I'm "bad" for having something sweet or "good" if I resist doing so. In contrast, the authors suggest that once we give ourselves permission to eat whatever we want (ie, no more "forbidden" foods), we will eventually begin to make more healthy choices naturally. To assist with this process, the authors do offer some general guidelines for healthy eating in the final chapter, but unlike what some other reviewers have suggested, it is NOT a diet plan. In fact, the authors go out of their way to point out that doing things like noting serving sizes and counting fat grams can cause the "diet mentality" to resurface, and so they caution readers that their suggestions are meant as guidelines only, not rules.
Overall, I thought that this book took an interesting, unique approach to healthy eating that I have not seen elsewhere. Not only would it be helpful for chronic dieters, but also it would be useful for those recovering from eating disorders who are re-learning how to eat normally. My only reservation is that for many people, sticking to a true intuitive eating plan might be difficult without the support of a nutritionist or other professional. Otherwise, however, I would highly recommend this book.

For me, this was a great book. So important that even before I finished my library copy, I bought my own. To have and reread every day, hopefully for the rest of my life. The authors make it seem so easy, which of course it is not, and that is perhaps a fault, but a small one. And they never do address how you managed to get fat in the first place, which for me was at the age of eight. But I am positive that they are right. Whether I can do it, remains to be seen, as I have spent decades on the diet treadmill, even a fasting program for almost a year. My metabolism is messed up big time. But the authors keep saying, over and over, to accept yourself now, and that is so important. If your body works, and you are basically healthy, and you can do what you want, why beat yourself up if you don't look like Kate Moss? This is something to hold onto in our thin obsessed world. Get rid of the scale, and appreciate the body you have. Get clothes that fit and that are comfortable. That goes a long way towards making you feel better about yourself. This was such a user friendly book, easy to read and follow, and it made such sense. I see myself on almost every page. I intend to read some of it every day, just to center myself. If you have found this book, and are reading this page, you need it. I might also add that there is a terrific bibliography, with lots of ideas for further reading if you are so inclined. I found six more books there that might prove to be helpful.

Lurlene Mcdaniel has written an extremely wounderful book called "One Last Wish". Themes of discovering the tragic story behind a struggle for survival against impossible odds. The novel is written in first person narrative style by a character named Jenny Crawford. Who is Jenny Crawford? A 16 year old girl who struggles for survival and understands the love and friendships that develop into a legacy of giving. Falling deeply in love, Jenny dosen't really tell Richard Holloway the way she really feels about hime. Closer do they become after finding out that Jenny's life is completly destroyed with leukemia. Though towards the end of the story Jenny learned that suffering does not respect people and who they are. Knowing that she only had little time to live,Jenny made her grandmother promise to make sure she made out her will. She wanted to leave something meaningful behind. A special trust fund of one hundred thousand dollars, for other sick teenagers. Which she called it her "One Last Wish". As I read the story it made me feel all the pain Jenny had to go through, and even though she had leukemia Richard didn't care, and admired her with all his heart. Besides all the extreme characters,I really enjoyed reading this novel by Lurlene Mcdaniel. The imagery in this story gives you an exact picture in your mind, anthor good reason why I enjoyed reading this story. The story could have been better if the author would of let us know what Richard Holloway ended up doing in his life. After reading the pain Jenny had struggled with it was disapointing to read that she passed away. Reading this story makes you realize whats good in life, and the things you should appriciate. The narrator draws you into the world of Jenny Crawford, which is what a good novel is all about.

I give the Merck Manual 5 stars in general but I wouldn't buy this edition because is was written in 1999. Everything in this book is obsolete. It's very important to buy up-to-date medical books for the proper information. If you're looking for a newer Merck, I would buy The Merck Manual of Medical Information, Second Edition: The World's Most Widely Used Medical Reference - Now In Everyday Language which was written in 2004 but is the most up-to-date Home Edition of Merck. However The Merck Manual 18th Edition was written in 2006 but is intended for doctors. I wouldn't recommend The Merck 18th Edition unless you have a good knowledge of medicine.

This is the most comprehensive guide to health related issues available on the market. There is a more authorative edition of the Merck Manual, but at 1700 pages this edition will keep you occupied. It covers the broad range of illnesses with handy diagnoses. But, what I like most is the children's section, which not only fills you on all the ailments that plague little ones, but the vast array of problems that can occur during pregnancy. While much of this information may provide more anxiety than assurance, it is worth knowing, especially if going through the experience of child birth for the first time. The children's section also has good information on health and nutrition. It quite literally covers the gamut of health related issues and no home should be without it. But, don't get carried away with self-diagnoses It can be frightening!

This is a wonderful summary of general medical information written in simple terms so this is a great addition to the family. It is very current in describing medical understanding of a variety of illnesses, and it provides a solid foundation upon which you can start doing more research on the Internet for the condition that you may be interested in finding about. It even suggests temporary remedies and puts you in charge of how you are treated by the medical profession. This is a must have book to keep around!

This book is cheaper [on] AMAZON than the one I bought at my warehouse club. I'd buy it for twice list price if I did not already have a copy.
The text is marvelously complete, yet devoid of fluff and fillers despite its 1500+ pages. The illustrations are very helpful, as is its exhaustive index.
If I have a medical problem in the house, this is what I grab first, even before logging onto the net. It's that good.
All that being said, it is not a complete medical library, you can get more detailed info by visiting a medical library, buying more specific books on the condition that interests you, and be spending hours researching a subject on the net.
If you want to understand something medical in a hurry, reach for this first.

This Merk Edition is perfect for patients with limited medical background. The explanations are more in laymen's terms but it would be good to have a medical dictionary to help when needed. Most term are explained in the book and it is full of diagrams to help with understanding. Merk recognizes the need for patients to become educated and have confidence that this is not a difficult thing to do. Some doctors have led patients to believe for too long that the knowledge was beyond their comprehension, so nothing that they do is ever questioned. I have met other doctors that explain in great detail and even draw on a bed sheet what they are going to do and why, giving the patient the respect that they deserve. I have a Degree in Early Childhood Education, and one crucial thing that was drilled into us that everybody can be taught anything if you start on the level of knowledge of the subject that you wish to teach. I believe this about children, and I certainly feel the same about every age level. Doctors are just people who went to school to learn. You never know what quality of the knowledge is that they learned or if they have kept up with an ever changing field with updates from research all of the time. If you are particular about who watches your pet, you should be even more concerned about your health care. Whatever depends on you to stay alive and for you to take care of, need for you to be healthy, and the health care of your loved ones should be a serious concern. It is easy to understand. This book completely changed my view about osteopenia and osteoporosis. Please, read it, specially if you're diagnosed osteopenia. I'm a very healthy woman and didn't have the habit or the necessity of taking any drugs since I discovered I have osteopenia. The doctor prescribed me Fosamax in order to try to avoid early osteoporosis. For the first time in my life I was taking a "serious" drug. I started to get fatter and fatter in my belly region. And then I read this book! It was my salvation and I'm back to normal healthy life.

What Every Woman Should Know About Creating Bone Health, as this book states on the cover, is particular informative to all women caught up in a cycle of testing and expensive medication, due to Osteoporosis or Osteopenia.
The book offers straight facts, which in turn provides a solid foundation to form your own sound strategy. With the information in this book, we are better equipped to make informed decisions about our own bone health.

When I was told I had osteopenia my (female) doctor handed me a prescription and a tri-fold pamphlet and told me to take calcium. When I went to the pharmacy to fill the prescription I asked the pharmacist to go over the potential side-effects of the drug with me. He looked at me like I had two heads. That was my introduction to becoming a "victim" of "bone disease". I went home and began to surf the Internet - searching for anything I could find on osteopenia and osteoporosis. And then I read this book! I came to the stunned realization that for most of my adult life I blindly followed doctor's orders, living in a sheep-like trance - plodding through life medicated at the whim of people who are bought and sold by Big Pharma. This is a ground-breaking book, filled not only with insight but hard facts. Thank God for Gillian Sanson.

I was scared and discouraged when I got
a note from my doctor indicating some
significant bone density loss since my
last bone scan 3 years ago (a subsequent
visit with the doctor revealed the note
had been confusing and partially inaccurate).
The book mentions how frightening an
osteopenia diagnosis can be, and contains
interesting statistics on fracture
rates; the possibility of these
conditions being overdiagnosed;
the notion that normal female aging
is being over-medicalized by
drug companies; the fact that the
miracle drugs have serious side effects;
and the fact that women (and to some
extent doctors) are confused.
All of this is to the good.
BUT - the book is annoyingly repetitive.
It's not a very long book to begin
with and I'll bet if all the repetitive
ideas were removed, it would be no
more than half its length...
It's more like an article that was
reconfigured into a book but without
the addition of more substance.
So - worth reading but not nearly
as good as I anticipated (and hoped) based on the other readers'
glowing recommendations.

I recently had a DEXA bone
scan and was diagnosed with
osteoporosis (or low bone
density). My doctor was
very "dramatic" when she tried
to explain the big DANGER
that I was headed toward. She
said, "You'll break a hip and
end up in a nursing home and you
will die. That's your prognosis
if you don't do something about
this NOW." She hit her wrist
very forcefully and said, "You
cannot do this, because if you
do, your wrist will break and
it will not heal." Luckily, I
act from information and not
panic, and this sounded very
one-sided to me. She strongly
recommended that I take
injections every
day for one year to build
up bone mass. I am only 48
years old and am very healthy,
other than this
low bone density condition. (My
life style has been to eat well
and exercise since I was very
young. I have never smoked and
drank very little. I am
at my proper weight, which has
never fluctuated more than 10
pounds, and many
people think that I am ten years
younger.) This
book was God-sent! After reading
it, I got blood tested for Vitamin D deficiency.
I learned that I had no Vitamin D
in my system, which most Americans
are in the same boat! (I am rarely out in the sun
for long periods of time, other than
driving.) Therefore I was not
absorbing the calcium from my proper
nutrition. I got on
1,000 mg. of Vitamin D per day, in addition
to my usual multi-vitamin supplements, and
added a small portion of healthy fat
(butter on toast, or a small slice
of avocado with the tiny Vitamin D pill since it
is fat soluable; in other words your
body will not absorb Vitamin D unless
one eats a little fat along with it...My diet
does not include much fat, so I make sure to
eat a small portion of fat with the Vitamin D.) Within
hours I felt like someone had 'plugged
me into the wall!' I had so much energy,
and two weeks later I still feel unusually
healthier and with more energy than I ever
remember. I have to remind myself to go
to bed by my usual time, which is 10:30 or 11,
because I am so energized! Because of this
book and others that I have read to
research the BIG SCARE OF OSTEOPOROSIS
by the medical "experts" I was able
to zero in on my own particular body
without drugs that cause other dangerous
side effects, like bone cancer. The FDA
has approved this drug for bone building
with the highest level warning on the box.
The new bones are not strong, but fragile AND this
drug caused cancer in laboratory rats.
The MYTH about Osteoporosis helped me to
become familiar with many well-researched
facts regarding bone mass and the DEXA machines,
Bottom line is that NO machine can predict whether
or not one will fall and break
a hip due to bone density! The book is jam
packed with information. These
machines are all set by their various
manufacturers and the data that
they use to compare the individual
being scanned to other person's bone mass
does not make sense! EVERY WOMAN SHOULD

scan and was diagnosed with
osteoporosis (or low bone
density). My doctor was
very "dramatic" when she tried
to explain the big DANGER
that I was headed toward. She
said, "You'll break a hip and
end up in a nursing home and you
will die. That's your prognosis
if you don't do something about
this NOW." She hit her wrist
very forcefully and said, "You
cannot do this, because if you
do, your wrist will break and
it will not heal." Luckily, I
act from information and not
panic, and this sounded very
one-sided to me. She strongly
recommended that I take
injections every
day for one year to build
up bone mass. I am only 48
years old and am very healthy,
other than this
low bone density condition. (My
life style has been to eat well
and exercise since I was very
young. I have never smoked and
drank very little. I am
at my proper weight, which has
never fluctuated more than 10
pounds, and many
people think that I am ten years
younger.) This
book was God-sent! After reading
it, I got blood tested for Vitamin D deficiency.
I learned that I had no Vitamin D
in my system, which most Americans
are in the same boat! (I am rarely out in the sun
for long periods of time, other than
driving.) Therefore I was not
absorbing the calcium from my proper
nutrition. I got on
1,000 mg. of Vitamin D per day, in addition
to my usual multi-vitamin supplements, and
added a small portion of healthy fat
(butter on toast, or a small slice
of avocado with the tiny Vitamin D pill since it
is fat soluable; in other words your
body will not absorb Vitamin D unless
one eats a little fat along with it...My diet
does not include much fat, so I make sure to
eat a small portion of fat with the Vitamin D.) Within

me into the wall!' I had so much energy,

My Bichon, Bailey, has food allergies. I bought this book to do research on this subject, and found it had lots of other very informative information. I am looking into natural homemade diets and natural care. It did the trick! It was very resonably priced for the size and information it has in it... Also so easy to read and understand.. I would highly recommend it!

This is one of the more detailed books I have found. I also got Health for Happy Cats and Your Cat by Elizabeth Hodgkins. This one has a lot of details about what to feed, how to feed it, what the diseases are and what the treatments are. You can look it up by both disease and symptom and treatment, which is fantastic. They discuss pros and cons of various things. They also have a good section on cooking natural diet versus raw natural diet. They are more advocates of cooked diet as far as I can tell. They also have a few diets. If you are going to get one book on natural health for cats this should be it. there is a lot of information on supplements.

I've owned this book for over 4 years and I use it here and there. Although no book ever covers everything, it covers quiet a bit and it is worth every cent you pay for it. If you are into natural health for your dog, this book is a must have.
THE BEST I've SEEN

I am a certified alternative healthcare consultant in NY and for PEOPLE I know alot, but dogs , especially my beloved Elmo, are quite different. While we use a holistic vet and Dr. Dym was here and gave free consults. I wanted and needed MORE so I personally was well informed and was doing the BEST I could to give all of my pets the longest , healthiest lives .
I think most all of us know the basics of GOOD quality food, exercise, emotional closeness, etc.(real Age .com gives you a questionarre and advice on your dogs real age and where and what to improve upon)
So this book gives you a multitude of preventive and curative advice in one easy to read and to use book that is quite accurate.
I am glad to have it . AND a MAJOR point is that this is not a fear inducing book i.e. your dog will die from generic dogfoods, cancer is rampant etc(We own a grooming shop and these dogs even on awful generic food are doing quite well and many are pretty old) I do agree premium dog food is best BUT that is not the ONLY factor in good health, and this book stays on an even keel not going off the wall in either direction.
Very useful.
