I own this well informed book that gives you a motivational read to lead a healthier life. It provides some proven strategies to live by. As a cookbook author myself, I've found this book compares similar to my writing of recipes that are low in fat and high in fiber, finding some tasty and delicious recipes in this book that will add variety to anyone's diet. Recipes that are lowfat with added fiber and a section to help you cook with whole grains and where to buy them. There's even a section of muscle toning exercises to help one become a fat burner at all times. Having had health problems in the past this book has been an inspiration to pursue better health in my own life. With a bad back, I find the lower back muscle toning and stretches soothing to my aching back.

Finally, a diet book that makes sense! Low Fat Living has all the usual advice and bean recipes, but with a difference. It's about developing a skill set designed for long term success -- even we're ony adding one skill at a time. From sleeping patterns and mindset to the oils on our pantry shelves this is a book that acknowledges that readers have lives beyond what they eat. Indeed, this is a healthy food book about LIVING -- not another FAT-IS-THE-ENEMY militant diet plan that made me despair "How am I ever going to follow this?" Plus the recipes are delicious.

A Whole Systems Approach
Helpful Votes: 26 out of 26 total.
Review Date: 2001-08-10
My only complaint with this book is its title, "Low Fat Living." It goes far beyond that. This is really the "whole mind, whole body" approach to weight control and more. This book seems to be a collection of everything that the authors could find that contributes to weight loss, organized in an interesting and integrative manner. I particularly loved the study that showed that people watching television burn up fewer calories than people sitting and watching a blank screen. As a woman at age 53, I was wondering if I could ever again shed pounds. My old approaches didn't work. The one thing that I knew was that people who successfuly do lose weight and keep it off do so through making life-style changes and they tailor what they do to their own bodies. This book enabled me to have a comprehensive understanding of what those changes needed to be concerning (1) nutrition, (2) exercise (including simply increasing motion), (3) water, (4) sleep, and (5) stress management. To my surprise, stress management has actually been the most challenging-and perhaps the most rewarding. I am no longer in the "diet" mentallity. I am now concentrating on making the small changes--trying this and that until I find ways that appeal to me and that I can sustain--and these are adding up to large changes that affect not just my weight, but my general health. Through this process and over several months, I am finding that my body and mind are changing in what they want. It is like my whole system is resetting to different standards. I'm beginning to actually be drawn to vegetables and whole grains, walking the dog, and skipping TV. Who'd'a thunk?

In my busy day and quest for a health-conscious diet, innovation and creativity are sometimes hard to muster. Jennifer's book does a wonderful job of not only giving great ideas for great tasting snacks, meals, and more, but takes traditional recipes and gives them a "raw" makeover. If you find yourself trapped in the same processed-food world but don't know how to make the transition to a raw-foods/vegetarian diet, Jennifer's book is a great start!!

Frozen Shoulder Thaws with Magnesium
Helpful Votes: 18 out of 18 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-05
Ditto what George Eby and the other reviewers said. And now my experience with magnesium.

When I researched to find help for rapid heartbeat and the profuse sweating and weakness that accompanied it, I found magnesium. Still skeptical (having read all the warnings of overdose this, that, etc.), but willing to try anything, I found rapid relief in less than an hour. And continued to experience increased strength in my legs and body overall the remainder of the day and the days following.

Surprised, I noticed the next week that my frozen shoulder thawed. I'd been so busy feeling good versus being unable to do more than walk slowly around my home or just sit, that I hadn't even noticed until I reached for something that was over my head without giving it a thought...when reaching the back of my neck to wash my hair with my left arm (I'm right-handed) was all I had been able to manage for six months previously. That shoulder and arm now needed to be stretched and strengthened after being locked up for so long, but normal activities of the day took care of that in good time.

That was January 2002. I've continued to discover all the ways that magnesium works in the body. I can sleep through the night without getting up to use the bathroom. I don't frequent the bathroom during the day, even keeping my water intake high. I no longer leak when I sneeze or cough.

Magnesium keeps me free of edema, and will release excess water for a few hours after waking...notoriously if I travel somewhere. I used to be puffy and tight, and stiff especially in the feet. What some people like to label plantar facsiitis. No more.

I came to realize how unwell I had been for decades. I am feeling better now at age 51 than at age 30 and even childhood. Never as much energy as the other kids, or even my own siblings.

As you read this book you will learn that sugar and refined grain products leach magnesium out of the body. You can learn to live without those non-nutrient edibles. Then you won't be needing so much magnesium to just get even, you can keep it steady. And you'll discover what other symptoms those two non-foods create. See 'Sugar Blues' by William Dufty.

Read 'Three Minute Therapy' by Michael Edelstein to help you get real with what you put in your mouth...and anything else in your life that you unwittingly allow to give you grief.

Oh, I've even used warm magnesium sulfate baths (Epsom Salts) to revive abandoned barn kittens from coma after unexplained seizure.

Get your life back. Read The Magnesium Factor. And then get some Magnesium Taurate here at Amazon from the Vitamin Shoppe.

MagOx Saved My Life

I had pvc's and pac's for 14 years. Was told by a group of doctors at one of the best hospitals on the east coast that I might have 6 months left. They gave me all the usual heart meds, stomach meds, and over 100 ekg's, heart monitors, halter monitors, a recorder I pressed to my chest...etc. All of which would only record sporadic painful arrythmia's

I tried Magnesium, Centrum, Vitamin C, Accupuncture (helped more than anything else), meditation, and even a psychologist. If I heard the word "psychosamatic" or "in my head" one more time...

I started MagOx in the fall of 2005 and 48 hours later my symptoms went from over 4000 (not a typo, yes, somtimes 4000) pvc's a day to 2 or 3 a week. I can exercise again and no longer have 90% of my chest pain.

I don't know about all the other symptoms, but if my story can help just one other person (I suffered horrendously for years) than I highly recommend just trying this supplement. It can't hurt. I take 400mg a day, which is about the same as what you receive in 2 cups of Broccoli or such.

Oddly, I haven't had the flu since I started it now that I think about it.

I have no affiliations with this book or the writer or any medical agency. I sell Servers and network setups in Washington D.C.

A remarkable scientist--and a must-read book

Review Date: 2008-02-25
I can hardly add anything useful to all the other reviews here, except to say that I admire the heck out of late Dr. Seelig, who has contributed so valuably to the magnesium literature.

Scientists who do basic research in the not-so-sexy fields of vitamins and minerals are our unsung heroes. They aren't motivated by the glamor, that's for sure, or for the big bucks. And because so much is already known about vitamins and minerals, there's little chance for a "break-out" discovery that will shoot their name to stardom. Instead, they keep patiently refining what we already know, applying it to more and more biological processes.

I can only imagine that their motivation is helping us all to stay healthy and avoid the suffering that comes with diseases. And, perhaps it the elegant simplicity that draws them. Imagine....preventing or curing so many diseases that are endemic in our society with a simple element that will not harm us. What pharmaceutical can claim that? (I'm grateful for the "miracles" of pharmaceuticals, too, but it's hard to argue that most don't come with side effects.)

Mildred Seelig was such a scientist. And we owe her so much.

This book should required reading in high school health classes. It could prevent so many problems later in life.

Is this the right magnesium book for you?

When I found I was suffering from many of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency, I looked on Amazon and found two very highly rated books - "The Magnesium Factor" and "The Magnesium Miracle". Unable to decide between the two, I ordered them both.

Both books are great resources on magnesium but there are some very important differences between them:

"The Magnesium Factor" spends a lot of time discussing the results and debating the conclusions of magnesium research. It also goes into great detail about the biochemical processes that are involved in various magnesium-dependent reactions in the body. While this is important data, it may be overkill for the average reader. In my opinion, this book would be better suited to health professionals or those with scientific backgrounds who need and/or want more detailed information.

"The Magnesium Miracle" by Carolyn Dean provides the pertinent research and biochemical information in a concise and easily readable format that would likely be more accessible to the layperson. This is the book I would recommend to family and friends.

Incredible!!!

I had "burn out" more than a year ago. The symptoms were similar to panic disorder and agoraphobia. My doctor believed that antidepressant, tranquilizers, beta blockers, sport and time are good enough treatment. The situation did improve with that, but very very slowly.

After about six months I was able to quit REGULAR tranquilizer usage, with the help of beta blockers. After that I have been able to reduce somewhat the beta blocker usage, but I still needed to use it several times per week. And I was not able to quit using the antidepressants. My trials for reducing it led always to very wild and scary heartbeats.

Then something happened. I found this book and it changed my life immediately!!! I have not needed the beta blockers after the very same day I started to take magnesium&kalium supplement. It really makes my heart run smoothly, I don't feel it beating anymore in a strange way for example when trying to sleep! And my dizziness is gone. And the situation seems to get better and better all the time! I just reduced the antidepressant usage a couple of days ago and I'm very confident that now I can slowly quit using it!

I have been using quite huge amounts of magnesium now in the beginning. The last four days I have taken 1200 mg per day, and I'm feeling just great! Even the last 200 mg or so in the evening makes me feel better. But I suppose I have to reduce the dosage soon.

It was this book that helped me to find out that my body was suffering from lack of magnesium! It is nice to know that after all there is nothing wrong with my head :-)

read this book together

Review Date: 2006-05-02
This book is written by a husband and wife who continue to experience permanent impotence as a result of prostate cancer sugery. The book is structured like a "diary" with dated entires over a several-year period written separately by both husband and wife who are honest about their fears, disappointments and frustrations. It does not dwell on the surgery itself, but focuses on the post-surgical successes and disappointments as they try to engage in sexual relations using various options. It focuses on the loving relationship between the spouses, but it is also realistic about sexual needs -- from both partners' perspectives.

My husband is a young 65 and I am 46; we read this book out loud together about 9 months post-prostatectomy surgery, and it was tremendously helpful to both of us. After the surgery, the doctor had told us that impotence was unlikely in our situation, so we were not prepared for it. The book was particularly helpful with dealing with the disappointment we both felt in this regard. The book also helped us to see that most couples have to struggle with several alternatives for intimacy over a lengthy period and that not every option works for every couple.

The book was not at all preachy, but instead was subtly encouraging to my husband to be open to trying a wide variety of options that we probably would not have considered otherwise. (It does not suggest anything kinky). It gave us information that allowed us to resume [drug-induced] intercourse, which we believed was physically impossible.

A big relevation for me was that impotency is not always an "all or nothing" concept. I had no idea how discouraging it can be for a male who simply doesn't know whether he can or cannot physically perform -- or whether he will ever be able to.

The theme of the book is not to quit looking for satisfactory ways to experience intimacy and sexuality -- whatever that may look like in your personal situation. It does discuss a very intimate topic, but it does so in an honest way and it was not as difficult to read outloud together as I had expected. It gave us detailed information that we did not know and that we would never have felt comfortable asking for from our physician. Having read the book, we knew what the doctor was talking about when he suggested various options.

I definitely recommend this book, regardless of the reason for the impotence issues. I think it would be most useful for a couple -- it is written by and for heterosexual couples, but it would be equally applicable to homosexual couples as well. In my opinion, the book would be less useful for singles, although it could be helpful for a single female who is considering or is in a relationship with a male with impotence issues.

I've Found Real Hope After 14 Years

Review Date: 2004-06-14
14 years after my husband's first diagnosis of prostate cancer I learned several facts in this book, but, most important, for the first time it has made me begin to believe that things CAN be different for us if we both choose to work at it.

Diagnosis. Treatment he chose and I said I'd support was radiation and we *thought* we'd been told about all the possible longterm effects. NOT SO! Six years later I saw a vital, athletic, physical man feeling totally becoming afraid of, tense about, uninterested in our previously-fabulous sex life. Finally, this week when I read this book, we learned that some impotence develops much later from radiation than from surgery, but it *will* develop!

Then depression. Deep. Sullen. Withdrawal from interests and from me. Our physician prescribed medication and counseling. The counselor saw him *once* and said, "Go home and don't be so passive!" Flat, flat affect. No joy. But he kept *trying*, bless him!

Then four years ago recurrence! It took my husband
over 6 months to choose a treatment and he only did so then because our doctor and I insisted on it! Surgery. At our city's outstanding cancer center. SUCCESS. His PSA is undetectable.
He does have some mild incontinece.

The surgery team introduced us to Muse. It worked 90% for us and the team was very excited for us. We used it once. Once in 3 1/2 years! From then on my husband has just refused to act on sex, talk about sex.

I've tried everything. I've begged my husband to return to the team and ask them for direction. He couldn't bring himself to do that. We grew farther and farther apart. My heart was breaking. I felt unattractive and sad and rejected.

Last week I read this book. I finished it in two sittings. And I was deeply touched and am now full of hope and new courage. When I handed it to my husband I only said that it was the most important thing that has happened to us in 14 years. I said it has touched me deeply and asked him to read it this week so we can discuss it next weekend. He promised he will read it tonight.....but, interestingly, he has gone to bed early not feeling well. Whether it's another "avoiding" or a real headache I won't know but a few days. But I really believe that when he does read it he will see he's not alone. He'll see we are not alone.

Right now I'm going to order several copies. I'll give one to each of our adult children so they'll know where we've been in our marriage. One will go to our surgery team to share with patients. Another will go to our family doctor so she can read it and have more personal knowledge of what prostate couples go through.

This is one of the five most important books in my life.

This is a great book on the subject of impotence. I am an 8 year Prostate Cancer survivor and this book tells it like it is. Virginia and Keith are to be commended for sharing the intimate details of their recovery.

This is great information for anyone dealing with the effects of prostate cancer. It provides a roadmap for working through the side effects of most prostate cancer treatments.

For Virginia the decision seemed easy, Keith's fear of becoming impotent from the prostatectomy was irrational in relation to the possibility of dying. How could he even think that being able to have sex was as important as living? For Keith the decision was not as easy. With his male ego wrapped up in the decision and the importance of being able to have sex with his wife it just was not as simple. After deciding in favor of the operation there was a lot of adjustments to be made and Virginia found that things were a lot more complex than she had imagined.

In "Making Love Again", Virginia and Keith Laken invite the reader into their personal lives and the difficulties they faced as a result of his prostatectomy. Their thoughts, fears, hopes, and disappointments are laid bare to the reader as they openly discuss deeply personal questions and feelings. If you ever wanted to know what it is like to deal with impotence in a marital relationship this book deals with the emotional struggles that are not normally discussed openly. The power of a loving commitment, strength for the challenge, and hope shine through as well as a true commitment to help others through the copious listing of sources of help in the appendix.

Readers should be cautioned that because this book necessarily discusses sexual intimacy between two people some may find it too graphic at points. On the other hand, it shows the extent to which the authors are letting the reader into their personal lives. "Making Love Again" is a very highly recommended book for those going through concerns about a prostatectomy or any sudden impotency of a permanent or temporary nature.

My husband and I have been secretly dealing with some issues that have been genuinely dicussed in this book. It was great to get "real" and say it like it is and also to know that I share with her experience. We both read it the first day it arrived and we really got a lot of comfort from knowing this is how others think and react. Like the author, we have a special relationship based on trust, freindship and committment. Not sex! That true love has enable us to remain strong, united and loving.
Thank you for sharing, you have given us some ideas and certainly peace that we are not the only one!

I highly recommend this book if you, like me, are trying to 1. figure out what your dreams are, and 2. how to achieve them. Like any tool, this is one that you have to use to see results. I bought it over a year ago and am now finally working through the process. Marcia's basic message is to figure out what makes you tick and phrase it in simple language. I'm not always keen on the abstract concepts but overall, this is a great book.

Consider this book motivational, or maybe inspirational, rather than educational. Everything Marcia Wieder says makes sense. Her basic message: Figure out what you want in life and start moving toward it in practical, everyday steps. That's not exactly groundbreaking philosophy, but for readers lacking in direction, the message that you can change your situation through action undoubtedly will do some good. So if you're lacking in purpose or ambition, we [...] recommend this book to you.

Dreamers Who Are Doers!

Review Date: 2004-01-13
America's "Dream Coach" suggests that in order to make your dreams reality, you take action in the direction of your dreams. After identifying one's passions, followup should be made in the form of acting on those discoveries. A dreamer must start the journey where they are. Waiting for ideal conditions is futile.
"Start by thinking about your dream as real," she writes.

Visualization is an essential component of the process. "Picture yourself already living your dream," she encourages. In other words, the dream starts in one's mind's eye. Seeing (internally) is believing. Be cautious with whom you share your dream, but to trustworthy friends and fellow dreamers, communicate your vision. "The more you speak and write about your dream, the sooner you'll live it," she advises.

This is a inspiring book on focusing on the things that will enable you to determine your target and hit it. There is much practical advice in this highly recommended book.

This book (and it's companion tape set) is a definate treasure. I was fortunate to hear Marcia at a business conference (isn't that a twist - dreams at a business conference!) and was enthralled.

She is positive, uplifting, and really encourages you to examine closely what makes you happy, what you'd really like to accomplish, and how to get out of your own way. Marcia won't beat you up, but she will give you concrete, take-action steps to move you forward from "it would be nice if..." to "I'm making it happen!".

This book was instrumental in helping me decide to move from my IT career of over 19 years into my own business as an Image Coach. I find much more fulfillment in doing this, and it's this book that made it possible. I recommend this to any and everyone who feels that they are meant for something more than what they are doing right now, or who needs to find more fulfillment in what they are doing.

Everyone who reads this book won't necessarily change their life's direction drastically, but this book will definately get you looking inward and gives you the tools to build a much brighter and more welcome future.

Highly recommended, along with the companion web site and if you can get a copy of her tape set, do so...the audio tapes make a great add-on for the book.

Maybe the best practical book on making dreams come true!

The whole idea of making dreams come true is a tough nut to crack. While the whole notion may conjure up a lot of doubt, this unique book does a pretty good job of solving the problem. I've had the fortune of hearing Marcia Weider speak in person and by the way, she is a dynamic speaker, I think that her book here is a pleasant surprise. Readers will enjoy her use of diagrams, charts, lists and all the things that an experienced seminar leader needs in order to illustrate such an abstract concept. While this book has probably not sold that well, I think it is a very valuable contribution to the field of personal developement. I think that success-oriented women in particular should buy this book.

I've read Nancy Alcorn before and she continues to share the REAL deal. This book contains real stories--it differs from your other pop culture books because the stories share answers to the tough problems, not just "learn how to live with your problems and live a functional life." Thanks for providing another resource for devestating issue of eating disorders--I know it will help many.

I have to say that with the great reviews I was expecting something wonderful. I was very disappointed. In my opinion, the layout of the book needed more organization. Also, I bought this specifically for treating acne and the "cure" in the book says it may or may not work!

Who doesn't have a "natural cures" book out these days? With diet and health books coming out of our ears these days, it seems everybody and their momma has their own take on what it takes to get and stay healthy in modern society. Sadly, many of these "experts" are nothing more than fly-by-night shysters who are simply in it to bilk you out of your hard-earned dollars by making you buy some obscure products that can (SURPRISE SURPRISE!) only be purchased from the author's web site. AVOID THESE "natural cures" books!

That's what makes Dr. Jonny Bowden's THE MOST EFFECTIVE NATURAL CURES ON EARTH so special. He presents well-researched and commonly-found cures to many of life's ailments that completely run the gamut. From obesity to diabetes to joint pain and everything in between, Dr. Bowden has got you covered. You may be surprised to learn a particular dietary approach that is often erroneously labeled as a "fad" by much of the medical community and the media is one of the primary "cures" that is shared for a cross-section of ailments.

Unlike most books of this genre, Dr. Bowden makes this stuff sound cool, too. His engaging writing style is what fans of his have been loving since he wrote LIVING THE LOW-CARB LIFE and THE 150 HEALTHIEST FOODS ON EARTH. You get more of the same with all the very latest studies to back up every claim made in this book. This is DEFINITELY one book you won't want to be without if you care about your health.

I agree with the other 5-star reveiwers. This is a great reference book. I have read many other books on this subject (e.g. Prescription for Nutritional Healing), and Jonny Bowden is very knowledgable. I particularly like the editing of this book--it is very accessible and not as bulky and overwhelming as PFNH.

The Most Natural Cures on Earth, by Jonny Bawden, is a well-researched, cutting edge book that is a must for any home library. The book covers pure cures, combo cures, food cures, plant cures, natural treatments and "desert island cures" (cures the author would bring to a desert or the equivalent.)

Bowden believes that the body has a "natural tendency to heal itself," but these cures help boost our systems. The author writes, "the goal of this book.... is to empower you." I like that!

He suggests natural cures for depression, appetite control, cravings, goat, migraines and much more.

In addition to being a fantastic reference book, the book itself is beautifully laid out and well organized.

I recommend it with one of my favorite books, Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet, because it addresses how to detoxify the home and make it healthier for you.

Having a three year old daughter and one year old twin boys, I was
definitely neglecting my needs. Mother Nurture helped change my
perspective. I believed I had to sacrifice and give everything I had to
my children. I read Mother Nurture and learned this is not true.
I now give to my children, and find time to give to myself as well.

The greatest peace Mother Nurture gave to me was telling me my thoughts and
feelings were normal and needed to acknowledged.
... Now, I use your book
as a tool. When I begin neglecting myself,
I turn to the book and the lessons it contains.

I have a number of friends pregnant for the second time. As their
babies are brought into this world,
my present will be a copy of Mother Nurture. Mother Nurture is a book every
mother needs.

I started to read Mother Nurture: A Mother's Guide to Health in Body, Mind, and Intimate Relationships a few days after my second child was born. Needless to say, I was a little ambitious in estimating how long I could actually stay awake to read, and the book sat on my nightstand for weeks. Once things around the house settled down, I picked it up again - and I'm sure glad I did! I found the book invaluable. Mother Nurture is a must-have resource for every mother and mother-to-be, and it wouldn't hurt for a few fathers out there to read it, either.

We as mothers juggle more tasks, work longer hours, and sleep less than our own mothers did. Family and friends, who once provided support and an occasional break from the kids, are scattered across the country. Yes, raising a child is harder than ever. So if you're feeling tired, cranky, overly anxious or downright depressed, trust that you're not alone. You, like thousands of other women, may be suffering from Depleted Mother's Syndrome.

In this ground-breaking book, psychologist Rick Hanson, acupuncturist and nutritionist Jan Hanson, and obstetrician/gynecologist Ricki Pollycove explore in depth the psycho logical, emotional and physical stresses of motherhood. They identify key risk factors for Depleted Mother's Syndrome and - referencing homeopathy, acupuncture, naturopathy, and western medicine - provide a balanced approach to getting your mind and body back on track. This book includes everything you need to know to help you feel your best, from meditation techniques to guidelines for suggested daily vitamin intake and ways to improve your post-children relationship with your significant other.

It's an essential reference book for every mother's library!

Mother Nurture is a must-read for all new mums (and dads). It feels like having a friend, coach, and doctor talking with you. The collaboration of 3 professionals has led to a truly holistic approach to guiding mothers as they embark upon (yes it's cliche but true) "the most difficult and rewarding" job in life. There's lots of specific, straight-forward, take action suggestions along with helpful anecdotes to illustrate points. I found this book to be of great comfort, inspiration, and help.

I have been overwhelmed with wonderful, but sometimes redundant parenting advice. It is refreshing to have such wonderful information about how to keep moms from losing their balance so they can raise the kids they want to raise. The authors have provided the strategies for moms to get their needs met, which is the key to meeting the needs of a child. Offering practical ideas and information on many crucial topics, including stress, moods, energy, and keeping a couple strong, along with addressing health and work issues, Mother Nurture is truly the most valuable book all parents can have.....or give. I highly recommend reading this book as part of your bedtime routine.

The exercises found in this book are great, when you are first diagnosed and the coming years.

It is a great tool to have because you do not deal with your MS the same way on a daily basis. There are times that, even if it is in written form, you need to look for answers.

The way the book is written, it is a sure sign that you do not have to have MS to write a good book, but as an MSer you do know what we face every day.

Great book, will keep using for future reference.

this book provides the person with MS or their caregiver with much needed information on emotions, thought problems, communications, and other areas in which MS symptoms affect functioning. it is well-written and quite easy to read. it offers a nice summary of functioning as well as a few strategies for managing the different symptoms. i found that this book is a good augmentation to the MS Workbook, which provides a more comprehensive background and worksheets than the current book. several times, the author stated something that i hadn't read before, and i wanted to read the original source, but none were provided. i only discovered about one dozen typographical errors, no errors of fact or grammar. this is a very good book for the non-clinician and non-academic.

I originally got this book at the library. I hesitated because some MS books can be very heavy or dry. This book was excellent! I found it very helpful, even though I've had MS for years. I bought one for myself & had some of my family read it, too. I even got a couple for gifts for friends with MS. I highly recommend it, especially if you have people in your life who could use a little MS education. It's also great to validate things for you personally. It's an easy read & definitely worth the time.

I really enjoyed this book and I am grateful that this book is available at all, when you are faced with an incurable disease the most important thing is finding some hope and gaining some control back over your life.

This book is great for that.

I was really hoping for more specific guidelines though, for example.

How to prepare for an ELISA test (if this is possible)
Where to get an ELISA test done.
Start off with X,Y,Z suppliments.
Eliminate one food group at a time.
Common alternatives to common (problem) foods are ...
Staying strong and avoiding temptations (there are a few excellent ideas on this in the book but I felt that they could have been restated towards the end of the book)

I understand that this information IS in the book but I just felt that after reading it I needed more guidance.

Changing your diet is hard enough - when you have such a deeply compelling reason for changing it I feel that one cannot have too much guidance in acheiving it.

"Welcome to an MS world that is not dark and dismal, but a place filled with hope, progress, and gratitude," Ms. Sawyer confidently states in the introduction to this clearly formulated, comprehensive plan for controlling this devastating disease. What MS sufferer would not want to discover how to achieve this?
Not only is MS clearly defined in highly readable, medically backed terms, but specific aids to recovering one's health are given, such as "The Benefits of Exercises" (highly specific) and "Depression: A Block to Healing." Both "Ann's Story" and "Judi's Story" are deeply moving. I have the greatest respect for the steps these courageous women have taken in their transformations from compromised physical lives to those of normalcy. The stories of other MS sufferers also provide direction and support.
And the diet? Once you find the "trigger" foods--those that aggravate your MS symptoms--you can stick with a diet (and partake of the 140 pages of delicious recipes) that will lead to the recovery of your life.

I feel extremely lucky to have found this book. When I was diagnosed with MS in October 2007, I instinctively became very careful with my diet because of past health problems due to food (Celiac's,food allergies & sensitivies).

But there were things I didn't know in regards to food & MS. This book explains why diet is important & how different foods effect MS. I also enjoyed reading all the personal case histories of real MS patients who have tried this diet.

I plan on staying on this diet the rest of my life. (I want to do everything possible for me to achieve the best possible outcome, so I also take one of the MS drugs (Avonex) in addition to this diet.)

Also, this book explained more to me about the disease of MS than all the neurologist's I have seen put together. I am deeply grateful to Ann Sawyer & Judith Bachrach for writing this book...Thank You!

Finally an alternative that really works!

I would recommend this book to anyone with MS. I was diagnosed 18th months ago with MS and have been taking medication prescribed by my neurologist. The medicine definitely helps, but this book has given me renewed hope. In addition to the information and stories provided, this diet is amazing. After one week on this diet I noticed a marked change in my ability to walk and my stamina.
