answers the question being asked...Review Date: 2008-04-13
What surprised me was that she also talks about how FAR food frequently travels and the carbon cost as a result. Is it worth buying organic if it's traveled across the ocean? While I understood this before, her book has made scrutinize this aspect of my food purchases even harder than before.
The book was an easy read but I admit to glossing over some of the talk about why you should eat organic or buy locally. What I wanted was precise information to help make my shopping more effective. I got exactly that.

A Journey of Courage and FaithReview Date: 2008-08-13
This book is the opportunity to share a journey with Kristi through the trials of infertility but more importantly, through faith. Kristi's honesty about her feelings during this time gives you hope while allowing you to see the pain and difficulty she's been through. It also shows the rock solid marriage, friendship and partnership she shares with Steve.
Kristi gives the reader encouragement and insight to her own spirituality. More than a great read, it's a ministry, a message.

since trials are rarely done. It would be fantastic to have an inexpensive drug recognized for its positive benefit on chronic debilitating illnesses. We need the $$$$ signs to go out of the drug companies mentality and push to investigate and be positive on helping so many who struggle daily. Maybe more success stories need to be published.

As a spoken word performer who cannot have an inspired "A game" every night, I especially enjoyed the chapter "B Is for B-Game", "prepare to win on an off-day." Mariah understands the nuances of excellence--no matter how hard you train, you have off nights or off games, but you can still win, or in my case win the audience over, with your B or C game--with the fall back on skill, training, hard-work, focus, AND, the surrender to what is, not what you'd like things to be. There are many moments of such wisdom throughout this book. Yes, Mariah, thanks.

Illness: One cause, one Solution - Exposing the TruthReview Date: 2006-06-15
Pat outlines the details of his tedious labors, uncovering why he continued to stay sick. Take special note of his message: until you erradicate the offending agent, supplements will have limited results, if any, as in my case and many others, and the liver doesn't know the difference between Prozac and Heroin. All metals are poison. Heart attack? Diabetes? Parkinsons? AIDS? All symptoms.
Pat gives much insight into what HAS helped him mitigate against the toxic load on the body while he was searching for the answer, and breaks down the list of myths that will be encountered in the healing fields, when enough time is spent hunting down the tiger. He also outlines what hasn't been effective to which I also concur in my own experience.
Wellness Piece by Piece is easy to read, hard to put down, and helps to reinforce you can get well when all seems hopeless.
Knowing metals may not even show up on a challenge test until you are chelating for a few months, the word out there by other chronic sufferers, is chelate anyway. The results [or lack thereof] will be revealed soon enough. Pat's book reveals what chelating agents are NOT effective, and with DMSA now available without prescription, anyone can start accomplishing results.
Disease doesn't appear overnight. This book is a must read for chronic sufferers and those who never want to get sick and who have probably already started the disease process and don't even know it! You can also find this book on Pat's Jigsaw Health website.
Thanks, Pat, for getting the word out. With enough available knowledge, people can stop the abuse of medical and health "care" and discover the answer lies in those who have come before them.

Another fantastic book in the series!!Review Date: 2008-10-11
As with the first book, my only complaint is that the section on applications has mistakes that the reader is supposed to find rather than showing correct form.
In spite of this one flaw, this book is a keeper!!
Wheel Kick (Achieving Kicking Excellence, Vol. 2)Review Date: 2008-09-29
I have only read two of the books in the series but they are both excellent and I hope to get the complete series. I recommend these books to all students and especially to new instructors that may not have all the technical knowledge to teach kicking techniques. I see why they refer to Shawn Kovacich as "the Professor of kicking".
Another excellent entry in the seriesReview Date: 2008-09-19
Though some issues arise for owners of multiple books in the series (namely, a few sections which are nearly direct cut-paste jobs in each manual), nothing is so detrimental as to make it a poor purchase. On the contrary, I believe these to be incredibly important books, as this kind of scholarly approach to a specific technique is very rare, but very useful. Every practitioner could benefit from having a catalogue of this type of work available for each of the techniques in his/her art. Perhaps someday that will be a reality.
The pictures throughout the book are clear, and the diagrams of muscle/bone relationships and how they relate to the kick are very informative and helpful.
Unlike the first volume in the series, I didn't notice nearly as many editing errors in this volume, making it far easier to read.
This series is incredible in the sheer amount of technical detail it imparts, and is truly unique amongst its peers for that reason. I highly recommend Achieving Kicking Excellence to every martial artist who seeks to enrich his/her kicking skills.

Good Kicking ResourceReview Date: 2008-09-09
The author starts out with the basic principles of the kick and moves to the basic turning wheel kick. From there, the variations of the wheel kick are described in detail. The author goes on to include training methods, troubleshooting guide and applications of the wheel kick.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their wheel kick and have found the other books in the series to be very helpful in my training as well.

Book is Great for Running Injuries - Now there is a DVD tooReview Date: 2006-01-20
Being cautious about these injuries that wouldn't go away, I saw an orthopedic doctor one month before the marathon. I was diagnosed with bad IT band inflammation and told myleg muscles were really tight - thus causing some of the additional pain. I was released to go back to running, but told I needed to start stretching my hamstrings and quads. By this time, the pain had subsided a little bit, but not much. When I tried my first run, the pain immediately returned, by this point I started thinking about opting out of the marathon.
Luckily, my doctor had given me the number of Kim Ortloff, one of the authors of this book, to help me stretch. At this point I had already been stretching the traditional way (you know by holding each stretch for 15-30 seconds) with no reduction in pain. I was getting little to no benefit from my efforts so I decided to set up an appointment with Kim.
I was able to professionally work with Kim (3 times before my Marthon) and use the exercises and stretches in this book at home. I was completely surprised, that in a couple of days of following this program I was actually able to start exercising again (walking and jogging 2-3 miles) with greatly reduced pain. During my second session with Kim, and just as a stroke of good luck, she told me that they had just released a DVD version of this book showing the different stretching, exercises and self massage techiniques of the book. I bought the DVD right away.
My injuries had almost completely resolved themselves within 3 weeks of starting this program. I met with Kim one last time, 3 days before the Marathon. By this time my injuries were completely resolved. I was amazed that in three and a half weeks of starting this program I was back to 100 percent.
Less than one month after starting these stretching and exercise routines, I finished the Marathon. I did it my using a technique of walking and running at set intervals, because I felt I had not trained sufficiently and didn't want to reinjure myself.
Additionally, using the techiniques in this book made my post-marthon recover a piece of cake. I was completely recovered from all sore muscles within 3 days. My IT bands are fine, my hamstrings don't hurt at all, and I was walking better than most marathon runners at the post-marathon celebration.
I could not have even thought about competing in the marathon, let alone finishing the marathon had I not followed the techniques that are being taught in this book. I am so excited at the immediate and lasting results that I got from this program, that when anyone asks about my marathon, I make sure to plug this book (and DVD). I even gave 2 copies of the book to my Team in Training run coaches, in hopes that they would employ the principles used in their coaching.
My wife has even used the principals for non-sports related injuries she had in her feet.
As I started off saying, I am a true believer in this program.
Very helpful!Review Date: 2005-12-13
These various pains, the authors say, leads to $60 billion in lost productivity and missed workdays.
This is a book that will be handy reference for me as it contains stretches, self-massage and exercise, as well as hundreds of pages of sound advice.
The two expert authors have written an excellent guide to help you and me achieve a life that is active, healthy and free of pain and learn to regain control over our health.
When we are in pain, we are not ourselves, and usually are crabby, can't see or think clearly and get stressed out. Our productivity and personal relationships are affected.
Did you know? The human head weighs 7 to 12 pounds, depending on the individual. No wonder neck and shoulder muscles get tired and weak.
Computers, couches and reclining chairs contribute to poor posture and pain. Sitting--which most of us do a lot at work, and then again at home watching TV or on the computer--places eight times more pressure on the lower back than standing does.
Of the two basic types of pain, acute is when you have an immediate pain from injuring yourself. Chronic, such as arthritis, hangs around and sometimes never goes away.
Several of their chapters deal with specific areas of pain. Those particular chapters make sense if first you read, "Why the Body Hurts," and "How to Manage your Pain." Each section helps us become advocates for our own health and pain-free living.
The last chapter, "If Your Pain Doesn't Go Away" includes questions for when you should see a doctor; what to ask; how to work with your doctor; and how to prevent your doctor from putting you off.
Armchair Interviews says: Even if you get one tiny helpful hint toward your pain control, this book is worth it. Their simple-to-do exercises and strategies have proven to be effective in relieving aches and pains in others. Whose body is it anyway?
