Interesting text on microbiology, fun to learn.

I utilized this text for my microbiology class in undergrad. It lists the major parasites, molds and bacteria. Parasites were the most interesting because it shows you what foods are associated with what parasite. Pretty gross stuff but was not boring at all. I also used:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Question and Answers, isbn 0971999635, to help me with test preparation. The questions were quite similar to what I found on my college microbiology tests. Both books helped me to achieve very good scores on my tests.

It is the most helpful book on decision processes in health economics and outcomes research. Not alone, it is fully compliant with the TreeAge software as far as terminology is concerned.

Clearly written! Excellent choice of exercises! This will make a good reading for anyone even remotely interested in making decisions in health care or medicine. The methods and techniques elucidated here will be useful at all levels of the health care system. Get a copy of this book and do not drop it until you've read it all. Probably, the most comprehensible state-of-the-art textbook of medical decision sciences devoid of undue jargon.

I have not yet read this book, but I hear it is worth reading. Everyone I know can't stop talking about how they could not put it down once they started reading it. if you like reading books on dental hygene, this is the one for you. I will write another review as soon as I have read the book. From what I haaave heard, this book has touched the lives of so many in the dental hygene profession. The author should be recognized throughout the world for her book. I hope that you all will read this book and write a review.

First modern educational tool in dental health for children.
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 1998-12-22
This is the first book of its kind. It focuses on the dental education of children. It is a complete lesson planner that can be fully integrated in the classroom along with school's other subjects. If children can learn to take care of their teeth the proper way, they can save themselves and their parents a lot of trouble down the line. What impressed me most about the book was how much information was in it. People usually go to the dentist twice a year and they think they are fine. After reading this book, one can see that people are really not educated at all about proper dental health. This book teaches in terms that everyday people can understand that there is a proper and simple way to excellent dental health besides going to the dentist. It also gives good background to why the techniques we use today are so helpful. Even a good dentist does not go into the background or go into what needs to be done for proper dental health because that is not their job. I would not be surprised if many dentists and their assistants all over the proffession would endorse this piece of educational material. This book should be a common reference material at every dentist office, school, and home.

A Reader-Friendly Reference Book
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-01
This book is "reader friendly!" It is excellent as both a reference book and a study tool. The explanations are clear and concise, as are the accomplying graphs, charts and photographs. Each chapter is accompanied by a glossary of terms, discussion questions, study questions and a thorough list of recommended readings. It delves into the biochemical aspects, biocompatability and application of all dental materials. All combine perfectly to enhance ones understanding and comprehension of the topic. The author even offers a historical perspective on older, outdated dental materials as well as the future of dental materials. I like the author's style of writing and his ability to organize themes in a logical manner. After reading this book, you should have no problems of understanding and working with dental materials. (I actually came across this book by accident in my dental school's library after being somewhat disappointed by Ferracane's book that I had been using for school. It is a good book too, but it just did not quite reach the depth of explanation required for my test exams.)

Every dental office should have this book available as a quick reference for what to do in a medical emergency in the office setting. This should be an adjunct to annual BLS and CPR training for each office member. Well organized, with succinct information and a spiral binding to keep the book open to the needed page.

This reference is a must for every dental office! It's unique tabbing system allows for quick access to any emergency (ie. Loss of Consciousness, Respiratory Distress, Chest Pain, Allergic / Drug Reactions, etc.) for myself and my staff. The Office Preparedness section (History and Physical Examination, Equipment, Emergency Drugs, staff training, etc.) as well as the Procedures and Protocals section (Measuring Vital Signs, CPR-Basic, Preprocedural Antibiotics and Decision Algorithms, etc.) are ideal topics to review for my staff meetings. Overall a GREAT VALUE for the price!

Comprehensive Preparation Guide for Dental Terminology

Review Date: 2000-06-19
This book is an excellent guide for the dental field. It is very well organized and concise, yet very informative. It is very easy to reference topics and the language is very clear. The spectrum of topics is vast, but not overwhelming. It covers subjects that are currently used in the dental office. It gives the reader clear information on topics such as material and techniques, management, procedures, and basic functions needed for the student and practicing dental professional. The diskette containing the review questions and exercises is very comprehensive and challenging. This is truly a great book for anyone in the denatl field!

The text is very useful for the individual who does not have any dental experience, as well as a nice reference for someone trying to explain terminology to a novice. There is a lot of valuable information in the book and on the CD. Everything is presented with clarity. It is a great resource for your own personal dental library.

Essential reading for the dental public health professional
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1999-09-11
Burt and Eklund have taken a good thing and made it better. The new edition of "Dentistry, Dental Practice, and the Community" maintains the attention to detail and liberal referencing that was found in the 4th edition, but it adds tables and charts that are easier to read and tighter organization of the chapters such that common topics flow together more readily. Congratulations on a job well done.

The real community dentistry in most of the world
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 1999-05-26
All other books like european books about the subject, are produced on a view embarassed for central, uniform and national health plans. This book make present in literature, the reality of many kinds of dental services delivery, like the state and private market. This aproach is more close with the real situation for most countries, speciality in plural societys.

For this reasons, that book is a powerfull toll for all Dentists interessed in knowing "how is" the actual basis that are building a future of our profession.
