Dentistry Books

Recommended in "A Basic List of Recommended Books and Journals for Support of Clinical Dentistry in a Nondental Library" in Bulletin Of the Medical Library Association, July 1997. However, the lack of a recnet edition is dissapointing.

AN EXCELLENT BOOK FOR ALL FINAL YEAR DENTAL STUDENTS

The principle of learning is closely linked to preparation for examinations. This book allows you to develop deeper knowledge and understanding, combining the necessity of passsing examinations with longer term needs.

I feel this book is an essential tool for finals, providing a step by step guidence through a range of dental scenarios of varying complexity.

Armed with information and a familiar format, this is a valuable investment for any dental student.

On first impression, this book seems a little lightweight. However having read the book, I discovered there was very good reason for this. Some books tend to over complicate and spend too much time on the simple issues, that should be considered basic knowledge. This book is simple and straight to the point. There is very little unnecessary material, whilst the rest is concise and easy to understand.
It covers a wide range of subjects from Bleaching (of vital and non vital teeth), to partial denture design to crowns and bridges. One of the highlights of the book is the chapter on Failed Crown and Bridges, a subject not covered as well in other dental books. Individual chapters on Replacing Canines, and Upper Incisors were also useful.
The text is well accompanied by a variety of illustrations, all relevant to what is being discussed. At the end of each chapter is a short and useful summary of the learning objectives.
Overall I found the book to be an outstanding source of information, which was simple to understand and easy to find what you were looking for. I would strongly recommend this book for students as it is an excellent companion to your studies.

I have read part of this one already and am very impressed with it. It is very boiled down to what you need to know.

In 200 pages you can find all the guidelines how to select an implant system, the simple and true method to choose the right patient, and all the cases using the Branemark System. Nice photos but at the end of each section.

Michael Block is an extraordinary educator and this text demonstrates his teaching abilities and his knowledge of implant dentistry. He sits on the education committees of several scientific academies for a reason. There is content appropriate for all dentists, not just Oral Surgeons. The text is easy to navigate through, there are ample references that will be helpful to students and educators alike, and the images, etc. are helpful towards clarifying concepts in implant dentistry. It is a must for every advanced implant surgeon and cutting edge restorative clinician.

This is an outstanding atlas for gp's with an interest in periodontics and grads starting a perio program. Well designed contents, detailed illustrations, prfect photos, informative legends and superb paper quality makes the book special and pioneer in its class. Furthermore it is a good and guiding resource for planning lectures for dental audiences.

This book provides a comprehensive view of modern endodontic microsurgery ranging from case selection considerations to using the operating microscope to surgical techniques and instruments. The recommended reading lists at the end of each chapter are also very useful for those requiring more information. One of the best things about this book is the number of pictures and cases which help to illustrate the authors' point. Sure, endodontic microsurgery has moved on somewhat since then (i.e. predominant use of MTA as retrofilling material and the use of endoscopes by some), but the principles have not changed and this is still a very useful book to have in the collection for any training and already practicing endodontists.

Like many books of this type, you are held hostage to the examples the author has been able to garner over his professional career. Obscure entities usually are exampled with poor pictorial representations. In this case, Laskaris has provided excellent examples of all entities both in quality of photograph and actual example chosen to represent that entity. A short synopsis with pertinent facts accompanies each entity along with helpful differential diagnoses, laboratory tests and treatment regimens. This atlas is organized in fine fashion and provides clear subject identification. In general, this atlas is a must as a general Oral Pathology study aid as well as clinical aid.

I have not seen the book yet, but have received solicitation to buy it which included this helpful info.
