A MUST for amalgam mercury poisoning sufferers!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-04-10
A brilliant book and a "MUST" for anyone who has suffered from Mercury Poisoning due to their Amalgam dental fillings, as I have been. It gives so much information, which is much needed when first diagnosed with Mercury Poisoning.

It is frightening enough being poisoned in this way but not knowing anything about it makes it more so. There is a NEED for this type of information and Sam Ziff provides all the information needed. Together with Uninformed Consent and It's All In Your Head, both by Hal Huggins they are three books not to be missed by fellow suferers.

I found the book easy to understand and a great help in putting my Website together so I could help in some small way by also alerting people to the hazard of Amalgam Mercury Poisoning.

SMALL ANIMAL DENTISTRY: A MANUAL OF TECHNIQUES is a 'must' reference for any college-level holding strong in small animal veterinary science. It's designed as a 'how to' manual which uses color photos to provide a step-by-step walk-through coverage of common techniques, and will serve as an excellent classroom manual as well as a vet's reference. From proper tools and techniques to close-ups of common conditions and discussions of challenges in small animal dentistry, this reference is packed with insights and perfect for both vet classes and practicing vets alike.

Dr. Sclar has always been a very renowned researcher in this field with countless publications an lectures. This book summarizes in a very well organized fashion everything there is to know about dental implants and the integration of soft tissue esthetics. This book will help every practitioner to elevate their implant case from a mere functional result to great esthetic result.

.....up to date with recent literature cited. As a Senior dental student going into OMFS I find it great to use for papers in school or just to expand that good old knowledge of implantology. i'd buy it myself except a little pricey for a poor student!!

Absolutely agree with the earlier review posted below. This volume was published in 1999, and an updated volume should be coming along soon, but meanwhile, this exhaustive collection of words relating especially to ears, nose, throat, and teeth is without peer. If you're an MT looking into expanding your library because you've found yours wanting, Stedman's is the place to look, and this book is a crucial part of such a library.

Best reference for plastic surgery/ENT/dentistry words
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 14 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-08
"Plastic Surgery/ENT/Dentistry Words" is a gem of a reference for the transcriptionist doing work in any of these specialty areas. It is chock full with 69,000 entries derived from >40,000 medical words, phrases, abbreviations, and acronyms. These are conveniently cross-referenced. Who of us has not heard, for example, some kind of "flap" mumbled by the dictator while transcribing a surgical report; here, a list of >4½ pages of various types of flaps are blessedly enumerated. Additionally, surgical instruments and medications are handily listed as well.

Four appendixes complete this volume: 1) anatomical illustrations [54 pages of them!], 2) sample reports [op notes] ranging in variety from typical liposuction surgery to an orbiculopexy, 3) common terms of procedure [such as septoplasty terms, etc.], and 4) common herbs in both Latin and common terminology. This latter is interesting, but I am confounded as to what is its use in this volume.

Nevertheless, this handy volume is really the Bible when it comes to a reference for anyone transcribing medical reports in the above-mentioned specialty areas. I recommend it highly!

There are lots of books for oral sugery but this one is really good for the general dentist as it covers procedures that can be done in private practice. I particularly like the emergencies section for its simplicity and methodical approach. A real good book.

Best Undergraduate Oral surgery book

As a Dental undergraduate, having started the clinical oral surgery course. I have found the synopsis a great help. Not only does it clarify the work I am doing clinically, it shows the applicable methods in a clear and concise manner. Illustrations complement the text in a very clear manner, and sometimes tell the whole story, which is good if like me an undergraduate, you dont have time to read chapters and chapters of a book. I would recommend this book to all dental undergraduates, and those in related fields, eg oral surgery dental nurses, medical students etc

A brilliantly mad book by a certainly insane dentist.

This is the most genius that I have ever seen compacted onto paper. Although completely deranged and lacking in grammar proficiency, Dr. Garfield, D.D.S. succeeds in being thorough in his treatise, as well as thoroughly entertaining and interesting for the entire 488 pages. The book is filled with complex diagrams of human and animal anatomy and gruesome illustrations of primitive dental "technology". I particularly enjoy the last chapter, entitled "The Future" in which Dr. Garfield predicts the future of mankind. The first page of this chapter displays a picture of two naked busty Polynesian women experimenting in a laboratory. (Although Dr. Garfield's book is about teeth, he somehow tends to mention breasts an awful lot.) Among Dr. Garfield's predictions for the future are: The elimination of eating or drinking, and therefore the need for bodily openings, which disappear courtesy of evolution; and the perfection of medical science, which renders medical doctors unnecessary....which will make room for new degrees to be earned, such as "Doctor of Infinite Happiness".

This is the sort of book that is worth tracking down at all costs, and if you are lucky enough to secure a copy, show it off proudly to all you believe are capable of grasping and appreciating such a magnificent work as this.

If anyone actually ever reads this review, it means that someone actually searched for this book besides myself.END

great embryology, easy to understand.

great development, pictures, terminology in a vry easily understood book. There is no falling asleep in this one becasue the author doesn't show off his brain by using stupid words and extra fluff.

book is straight forward and easy to understand and I will use it for the boards.

While no textbook is perfect, this latest edition of Ten Cate's Oral Histology is the best source of information on oral histology for students in dental school. The text is easy to read, the illustrations have been greatly improved since the last edition. I teach oral histology and I consider this book to be the best on the market.

Harald Blue Tooth strikes again!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-10
In the land of the vikings, Harald Blue Tooth was the Danes first king - a prediction of what was to come one thousand years later. Now the time has come. Harald's vengeance for those that jeered him for his funny tooth still have to pay the price. They fall over their feet, they walk into clenched fists and fall from their bicycles. Harald laughs. But now thanks to a viking pair - JO and FM Andreasen - Harald has become more thoughtful. Dentists now have the weapons to fight his anger and save teeth. Any dentist who knows the fear and uncertainty of facing a trauma patient will appreciate the treasure trove of knowledge between the covers of this brick of a book (it weighs 3.5 kg!). If it's sold out here - contact Munksgaard publishers in Copenhageen - they can help. Your patients will appreciate you.

I bought this book for my husband who is in his first year of dental school. He has had quite a bit of knowledge about the history of dentristry and no time to read it, so I have been doing it for him. I have found this book to be very informative and fun. It has been a good source of conversation for us and will be a useful tool when we have children to teach them something about what their daddy does.

Quirky and lots of fun!
