Sleep Better!: A Guide to Improbing Sleep for Children with Special NeedsReview Date: 2007-03-20
Will be indispensible to exhausted parentsReview Date: 1998-09-27
Durand's advice is built on a solid foundation of research, but written clearly and without jargon. He's also not out to "sell" a particular method or program as the cure-all: he describes a number of different methods, giving the pros and cons of each, so that parents can make an informed decision about what is likely to work with their child.
Incidentally, the information in the book might also help an adult (disabled or non-disabled) sort out any sleep problems of theirs as a free bonus.

Disorderly Conduct!Review Date: 2007-01-08
If ever two authors were ideally suited for one another...Review Date: 2004-09-20
"I'd Give Anything For You"... if ANYONE ever says that to you - run! don't look back... just run! Nothing like making sex a horrible thing and a visual that stays with you long after you've finished it!
"Love Letters From the Rain Forest"... good guys finish last, but hey sometimes they only appear to. A bitter tale that waits to grab you until the very end and even though you smell it coming, you wince and cheer at the same time!
"Masks"... good horror should always make you nervous along the way and then reinforce your fears at the end, Masks takes its job seriously!
"Eyes Left"... not your normal zombie story, and in case you wondered, there ARE things worse than death!
"Sleep Disorder"...gotta love a good revenge tale =) Evil, bitter, nasty - oh yeah, women are bad, bad things...
And when you're done you get to read 'Good Seeing You' aka first draft of 'sleep disorder' - an amazing tale that was lovingly altered and twisted in just the right way for a wonderful collaboration piece!
And then 'I would do anything for you' first draft [note the 'do' and 'give' in the title change] a raunchy ride that gets tweaked into an unsettling argument for abstinence! Almost funny in parts but the end takes all the grins away and replaces them with grimaces...
Sharp concise writing, no frills in your face pacing, and characters that you love or love to hate... This collaborative collection is an amazing thrill ride that was over much too soon. If you are a fan of either of these writer's it's a must have - if for nothing else than to see how well they work with another writer - that is just as twisted as they are!
Rating - FIVE, no ifs, ands, or buts about it ... get this book!
Can't Sleep...Can't Sleep...Can't Sleep.......Review Date: 2004-02-15
Id Give Anything For You Clare is a beautiful woman, who becomes exasperating dating, or rather gold digging, a young and very rich man named Roderic, who is fat, slack muscled, and pale as a fish belly. Seeing a stud on the side named Wardell, Clare finally decides that the fine restaurants and the jewelry and the high living just arent worth the price of dating a man like Roderic when Wardell satisfied her so much better. Besides, along with Roderic came his mother and her man servant Fudd, both of whom disliked Clare. Dont leave us, Roderic begs Clare. Id give anything for you! But Clare leaves, not knowing just how much Roderic is willing to give.
Love Letters From The Rain Forest Clara Holmes, a beautiful woman, dates droll and dreary professor Howard Moley in an attempt to get at his family fortune, but finds him too boring to be worth the shot at money, so she dumps him. Howard, a mycologist, expert on fungi of every category, flies off to Brazil on a grant to study the rainforest. He still sends Clara love letters, telling her of his wonderful discoveries. Clara replied by sending Howard pictures of her in bed with other men, right about the time she receives a letter from Howard telling her how he has fallen ill. Howard has one more letter to send Clara.
Masks not my favorite, a tale of a worldly and traveled man, his penchant for using his collection of masks for pleasure, and a surprise ending as to which mask we really wear.
Eyes Left The dead are walking and talking and living among us. Protected now by the Government so that they have rights, they are still cause for amusment by three friends who hang out during happy hour at the World Café to watch the ladies stroll by. Admiring the scenery and guessing which ones are dead, spouting off about the minority rights of the dead, and wondering what it would be like to bed one. And then she came in, had a drink with them, and made them an offer.
Sleep Disorder Bill Dumont is a rich, successful, powerful man, and a bastard to boot. Ask his ex wife Laura or his girlfriend Annie, or Millie, the hooker he frequents. But Bill has a problem, he talks in his sleep. When he starts somnambulating, Annie moves out. Bill sets up a tape recorder, because he doesnt believe his sleep disorder is all that bad. Bill is in for a surprise.
Good Seeing You First draft of the short story Sleep Disorder by Jack Ketchum. Dont skip over it, its different and stands apart from the collaborated version.
I Would Do Anything For You First draft of the short story Id Give Anything For You. Dont skip over it, its different and stands apart from the collaborated version.
All these wonderful tales followed up by an Afterward written by Jack Ketchum with some interesting tidbits on how this collaboration came into being.
This is one of those books that is worth the price of finding. Enjoy!

An excellent review of melaton researchReview Date: 1998-06-23
Informative guide to MelatoninReview Date: 2007-01-07
Since melatonin secretion declines with age, supplementation boosts the immune system by restoring the function of the thymus gland and increasing the production of T-cells, as numerous studies have shown. It is also a very potent anti-oxidant or scavenger of harmful free radicals. Because of the small size of the molecule, it penetrates where other anti-oxidants cannot, protecting the mitochondria and cellular DNA.
In particular, it is a powerful scavenger of hydroxyl, one of the most harmful free radicals. Various clinical studies reveal that the hormone boosts the body's anti-tumor activity and enhance the immune system in general. It also seems to stimulate the body's natural anti-oxidant systems in various ways. Other benefits may include the reduction of blood pressure and the prevention of migraine headaches.
The author mentions its side effects, one of which is vivid dreaming. Others may include depression, grogginess, lethargy and depression. Sahelian cautions against the regular, prolonged use of melatonin and believes that tolerance may develop.
This highly informative book is an easy read because of the author's gift for translating medical terminology into everyday language. I also recommend his other books such as Pregnenolone: Nature's Feel-Good Hormone, DHEA: A Practical Guide, and Mind Boosters: A Guide To Natural Supplements That Enhance Your Mind, Memory And Mood.

Lot of useful information!Review Date: 2006-09-25
staying asleep . . . so when I saw RESTFUL SLEEP by Deepak Chopra,
I jumped at the opportunity to listen to the program.
Subtitled THE COMPLETE MIND/BODY PROGRAM FOR OVERCOMING
INSOMNIA, it delivered a great deal of information . . . but this was not
surprising because Chopra tends to do that with every book and/or tape
he comes out with . . . in my opinion, this was one of his best.
I particularly liked how he backed up his ideas with insights from
Ayurevda, the ancient Indian science of life.
There were many tidbits I gained from listening; among them:
* You can't force yourself to sleep.
* Trying to sleep will not help; it will actually aggravate the
insomnia.
* Turn your clock to the wall. Don't be concerned with the time.
* The solution to all sleep problems is making the period of being
awake totally dynamic and satisfying.
* Lunch should be your heaviest meal of the day.
* Supper should be light and eaten early.
* Take a short stroll after dinner.
* Avoid watching TV at night. If you must, stop by 9 p.m.
* Best to go asleep before 10 p.m., according to the rhythms of
nature.
* Rising earlier will lead to an earlier time for going to bed.
* Wake up at a regular time every day.
* Do reading in a room other than the bedroom.
* Making your bed each day creates an orderly and harmonious
impression when you go to sleep.
* Extract of lavender is considered helpful for sleep.
* Ask yourself: Do you love your job? Are you really happy?
If "yes" to both those questions, then it is likely to will avoid
most heart and other health problems.
Very helpful resourceReview Date: 2000-07-14
Chopra begins by encouraging the reader to consider the connection between waking life and sleeping life, and also the connection between our own biorythms and the rythms of nature.
He then writes about sleep and how to make it restful again rather than stressful. His style is very relaxed and easy to understand. He takes an ayurvedic (the ancient tradition of Indian medicine) approach to helping solve sleep disorders. I was not familiar with the ayurveda prior to reading this book, and really enjoyed learning a little bit about it. As a reader I did not feel that Chopra was trying to convert me, just help me. And - I feel that he did.

Deep sleep bookReview Date: 1999-12-06
A SLEEP BOOK THAT WORKSReview Date: 2003-06-05
The author knows his stuff. What's most important, he's practical and in each chapter gives specific guidance that really took me through the bothersome thoughts that kept me awake - so that I could let go and come into the present moment, and well, just drift off.
I also found Selby on the web ... and discovered that since he puiblished his sleep book, he has posted great audio guidance right on the web ... and he has a CD that I bought with a sleep program. ow I just put it on, and it takes me away.
But the book is also essential as far as I'm concerned. It gave me the insight to see how I torture myself with my thoughts, and how they provok the emotions that keep me awake.
If you want to get to sleep - read this book!
