I first heard of this book when I had this book for literature. The title "Red Sky In The Morning" gives people a melancholy feel that just fits the theme of the book.
This is about a girl, Anna, who has a severely handicapped brother, Ben. Ben was more of intellectually disabled than physically and he brought great joy to her life, changing it drastically.
Through this book, you can actually empathize with Anna. It is also a very touching story with a great plot. I'd recommend it strongly to everyone!

A great book, but very sad

This is one of the best books i have ever read. It has a lot of twists and deals with subjects that some people find difficult to talk about. All though it is quite sad when her handicapped brother dies, there are some funny and lighthearted points as well. I think this book has a meaning inside, and I would recommend it to anyone. Although I am not in this situation, I also think it would be good for people who have handicapped friend or relatives. I could read this book again and again.

This heart-warming book is about Anna's life during her early teens. Her mother gave birth to her younger brother, Ben, when she was 12. Unfortunately, he is severely disabled. Anna loves him very much and spends most of her time with him, taking care of him and teaching him to do things that normal kids could learn when they were younger. The parts I loved best about this book are the touching and sad parts as it seems so real, it could make you cry on and on without stopping... I would definitely recommend it to people between the ages of 12 to 15 as they would definitely relate to the characters.

A warm story, it fully touched my heart...

When I was first introduced this book for Literature, I thought it would be like the rest of the Literature books-boring. However, when I started reading it, I realised it was not, it was filled with touching scenes. This story basically revolved around the main character called Anna. Her mother gave birth to a baby boy, Benedict or Ben in short, when she was 12. Ben was not born normal, as he was disabled, but this disability brought in lots of joy, fun and laughter to Anna. Throughout this book, I encountered some themes such as family relationships, relationships amongst classmates and friends, and romance...
This is definitely a book not to be missed, and near the ending, I was especially touched.... I would like to recommend this book to all between age nine to thirteen and...those who think this is another dumb book, you are wrong...

I first heard a part of this story from my Mother when I was young. I found it again later in life, read the whole story, and fell in love with Blaine's story all over again.

Miracles are all around us if we just open our eyes and SEE all that God has revealed to make man's life better!

One Tattered angel is a very great witness that miracles do happen and God is the God of all..... even the little ones.

This awesomely well-written little book is one of the most inspiring and humbling books I have read in a long time. I have given several as gifts and will give more. My sister's comments were that it "should be required reading for everyone." That pretty well sums it up. Highly recommended.

i was on the island of st. martin recently, staying at a small hotel on the beach; to pass some time, i'd noticed they had "used" books on the shelf in the lobby to borrow and saw this little book called "one tattered angel". i started reading it and couldn't put it down. it affected the rest of my trip & my outlook on things, especially the power of prayer. i wanted to take the book with me - i was going to ask the hotel if i could buy it, just in case i couldn't find it anywhere. however, i noticed that it was signed by the author! i realized that the book needed to be left right there, so someone else could have the pleasure of reading it, like i did.

This book touched and inspired me so much that we named our daughter Charity after the subject of this book. This book helps us to better understand what our Heavenly Father expects of us, how very much he loves us and how he compensates for the weaknesses we have been given. There are blessings, even in the toughest of trials. Don't hesitate to buy this book. It may (and should) change your life.

I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus when I was 9 months old. My Mother never really knew too much about it so neither did I. I've had 3 shunt surgeries (first one when I was 11 months, a revision at 5 years old, and a new VP shunt in a different place at 11 years old) and now that I'm 23 and a Mommy of 2, I really started getting worried about the 'what ifs'. I've done a lot of research and this book is great. It's very informative and puts it in easy to understand language for those who aren't fluent with medical terminology. It covers all aspects of hydrocephalus and the common medical conditions that are associated with it. Though I am lucky and have none of those other conditions, I now know what to look out for.

Do NOT buy this book

My mother bought this for me when my son was shunted at a month old due to hydrocephalus. This book gave us wrong information about just about everything to expect. Find something more current, or ask your neuro-surgeon for a recommendation - but don't put yourself through reading this obsolete, upsetting and misinformed book.

I found this book to be very informative. I now understand much better with what I am dealing. I was diagnosised in November 1997 with hydrocephalus and had my first shunt operation two days after diagnosis. My neurosurgeon to my memory (I was so ill I was hoping someone would just cut my head off) did not tell me about what I could expect or not expect after the surgery or the possibility of needing a revision which I did have one and a half years later. I would highly recommend this book to anyone or the parent of any child diagnosed with hydrocephalus. However, I would like to see more infomation on adult onset hydrocephalus.

Essential, reassuring, empowering, and potentially life-saving

An important book not only for the person with hydrocephalus, but for family and close friends as well. If you're looking for a book that explains hydrocephalus, shunts, shunt complications, symptoms, and everything in between in layman's terms, you've found it. Here is reliable information which you can read and reread as often as you need. It provides you with the knowledge you need to ask neuros the right questions and to understand their answers. As a parent of a child who had a shunt placed in infancy, I can't recommend this book highly enough.

I was excited about reading this book, as I am always looking for personal accounts of living with, or raising a child with, hydrocephalus. There aren't many out there, so I am excited when one is recommended. This one, however, I have to say, I didn't care for much. I would actually like to give it 2 1/2 stars. I am thrilled for Mrs. Hall and her son that he is doing very well now, in spite of a rough start in life with "hydro," but there were some inaccuracies in the book that bothered me. For one, she refers to hydro several times as a "rare" condition. It is not, and anyone who knows anything about it can tell you that. Hydro strikes in congenital form in about every 1 in 750 infants. Then there are all the acquired cases due to prematurity, neonatal infection, and so on.

Perhaps the statement that bothered me the most, though, was that no babies survived this condition at the time her son was born with it. I am 40 years old--a year and a half older than he is--and I'm here! I also know many others from my generation who have not only survived, but who have lived well, as I have and continue to do. It probably was a miracle that he lived through all of his early difficulties with it to do as well as he's doing today--38 years old, husband and father. He did have a tougher time than I did as a young child, and as a parent of a high-functioning autistic child, I can appreciate why she feels she's been given a miracle, but let's be factual, too. He was not the first to live through an infantile hydro diagnosis.

I was also bothered by the lousy editing. There were many awkward sentences, and even though I understand that Mrs. Hall is an evangelist, the whole book reads like a revival sermon. I believe only the truly devout would be undistracted by the incessant praising she gives God, and although I can understand why she would want to, it makes the book a lot less appealing to a large readership.

In summary, I am glad Mrs. Hall made the effort to tell her son's story, but I think the book falls short of being a truly gripping and inspiring read due to the less-than-professional editing job and overzealous stating of her Christian faith.

This is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in my eyes! This book was an excellent read. The language was simple and clear and the message was relevant and real. It was presented with heartfelt emotion and sincerity, thankfulness and gratitude to a God who deserves nothing less. It was a personal account which made it tangible and realistic. Mrs. Hall didn't hear about it but she lived it. She portrayed her and her son's story in a very unique and informative way. "Hallelujah! It's a Mother's Miracle" reveals the true nature of a mother's love. It was alive with hope. Her son is a living testimony and a MOTHER'S MIRACLE! HALLELUJAH!

HALLELUJAH' IT 'S A MOTHER'S MIRACLE WAS VERY TRUTHFUL AND IT SHOWED THAT THIS MOTHER HAS A LOT OF FAITH IN GOD AND SHE HAS SHOWN THAT NO MATTER WHAT PROBLEM YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE GOD IS IN CONTROL OF IT. THE BOOK WAS A GREAT INSPIRATION TO ME AND MY FAMILY. JUST KNOWING THAT SHE HAS A GREAT LOVE FOR THE LORD AND HIS WORD CAN ENCOURAGE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO MAY NEED THE ENCOURAGEMENT TO GO ON IN LIFE. THE BOOK WILL BE A GREAT PIECE OF READING MATERIAL FOR THE HEALING OF THE SOUL AND THE BOOK.

Hallelujah! It's a Mother's Miracle is an enlightening and very encouraging look into the life of a determined woman of faith and an unyielding son of destiny! It captivates the reader's vivid imagination. It is honest and pure. The story educates and enthralls. It testifies of an unwavering faith. The language is demonstrative of a seasoned writer depicting the realness of the time. Yes I can say that Mrs. Hall truly has been blessed with a Mother's Miracle.

This book was one of the best books I've read in a long time. It makes you want to count your blessings more often. The author is so honest and true to herself, she doesn't mince words with her feelings, even if it doesn't put her in the most favorable light. It makes you try and imagine what it would have been like if you had no family on Christmas, or your birthday, or to be institutionalized your whole life-how you would never really know what you were missing because you never got to experience it in the first place. Anyone who is ever feeling sorry for themselves or not appreciative of what they have in life, needs to read this book!

I picked up this book at the library, hoping for a good story, with some hope for the family involved. Instead I was treated to a self-absorbed writers account of her fight with alcoholism and little of her relationship with her sister.
I work in a group home setting, and often see families who are not involved, for various reasons. I hoped this book would give me some insight. But it didn't. It offered cliches and explored the rest of the family's surface reactions only. I was disappointed to see that Anne was once more abandoned at the end, when she needed family desperately. The story offered within this book only served to reinforce why I work where I do and why what I am doing is important.

I thought this book a truly honest look at this Authors Cathartic experience through a life of unforgivable misfortunes. A truly sad story but I was glad that I read it. This book is a must read for anyone that has ever given birth to a child. This book more than anything was a window into the parenting choices that are made.

I am an adult with hydro. and ever since reading The Shunt Book - I always recommend it to new parents or newly dx'd patients. I am an Executive Director of a non-profit group (National Hydrocephalus Foundation), and I can't think of a greater help to those who need it, besides what I can verbally provide to them. Many of us who have hydro. call this book "our bible."

I bought this book after we were told that our son would be born with Hydrocephalus. Of course I had never even heard of this condition prior to this, so I had a lot to learn.

The only disapiontment to this book is that it contains no actual information, it simply lists all of the websites that do. I was a little dissapionted at first, but it really did come in handy having all of the websites in an easy to use guide.

If you are looking for information, do not buy this book. If you'd like to know where to find information, then this is the book for you.
