My daughter is a licensed massage therapist and was saving to purchase this set. She found them available at Amazon.com at a very reasonable price. This set is very highly recommended by massage schools nationwide, containing no-nonsense how-to's with direct instruction. My daughter used several techniques on her patients the first week she received her manuals, and provided great relief from their pain.

I guarantee if you mention this set to any LMT, they will be very familiar with it. It's a wonderful investment and will never become outdated. That is a guarantee by both schools and LMT's!

My daughter is going to school for Western Massage Therapy and Neuromuscular massge. She was needing to purchase the set of books. At her school, it was at least $56 more than purchasing them on line. She was able to have them with in a week for class, but saved her a lot of money to put toward other things for her studies.

This is a great book. The way it is arranged and the information presented is all excellent. If you are interested in a book that will help you diagnose your clients movement problems this may be perfect for you. As a massage therapist however I was slightly put out that there were no manual treatment options discussed for each impairment. Exercise and postural correction are the treatment of choice in this book. A body worker should be able to add their own expertise to the exercises and life style changes and come up with a great combination of manual treatment with things the client can do on their own.

I'm a rowing coach and was always looking for a book on the treatment of movement impaiments that would take an alternative look at the subjekt. With Shirley Sahrmann's book I have found everything I was hoping for. The author goes from the more general presentation of the necessary background informantion to the spezific diagnosis and possible treatments of the most common movement impairment syndroms. She also provides insights in an understanding these syndroms that is coming from a rather holistic perspective. Thus she is looking at movement problems as a result of problems of the whole chain of muscels involved in that movement, not just the specific muscels of the area, where the symptoms are noticed first. Any coach, who has discovered that improving athletes' performance in competition means advancing their physical performance by removing movement impairments, will quickly call this book one of his favourites.

Dr. Miller and Dr. Bachrach have written a wonderful book. Dr. Miller was actually my daugther's ortho doctor until he took time off to help write this book. Dr. Bachrach is currently treating my daughter. I love the fact that they have made this book easy to understand and that it answers questions that you might never think to ask while you are in the clinic with your child.

Wow! After almost five years of parenting a child with CP, I've discovered a book that answers all my questions! This book goes into detail on everything you want to know--the medical aspects of high tone/low tone, when various surgeries are necessary and what results you can expect, the different types of AFO's and equipment, lots of other stuff. If you have a child with CP, you'll want this book. I only wish they had come out with a second edition by now. (Sept. 2003) Also includes an extensive encyclopedia. If you've been craving detailed information and answers, this is what you've been looking for.

Co-authored by medical doctors Freeman Miller and Steven Bachrach, Cerebral Palsy: A Complete Guide For Caregiving, 2nd Edition is a `must' for any family struggling with CP care: it provides parents with answers ranging form understanding areas of involvement and basic care issues to understanding medical terminology commonly used. An A-Z encyclopedia helps define these terms, diagnoses and procedures, while discussions delve into regulations, assessments of condition, and the latest research. The wealth of details are organized logically and parents will find it easy to navigate, making it an item of choice above others.

This is an excellent book.
It is a important reference book which I use and read cover to cover. The biggest plus about this book is the concept of alignment, and the various grouping of restrictions and weaknesses within the body. It shows this and explains these (rectrictions vs weakeness) very clearly and specifically which makes it easy to pick up theses patterns in people's bodies.
Although there are better books which are set out better, the commentary and insights contained within the book are invaluable.
It is a bit of a bible in many physical therapy circles.
Don't get too caught up, and remember that this book should only be a start point as things are more complicated than this.

If you ever needed to know what all the muscles in the body were, where exactly they attached to the skeleton, what movement they created, and ways to test how strong they are this is the bible. As a physical therapist, this has been an invaluable book to have both as a student and as a clinician.

I never found a textbook so humble and encourage the readers to really understand the content like this one. It's easy to read and contains many great graphics (all in black and white color). Dr. Salter made a very good approach to the readers and explains all the basic things we need to know about orthopedics.

Review Date: 2001-07-23
As a sufferer of fibromyalgia syndrome who has fought it alone the holistic way (with considerable success) for over four years, I was intrigued when I spotted this book. Initially, I was somewhat put off by the title, as I did not want to have to 'live with' fibromyalgia - I wanted to get rid of it... However, I soon revised my opinion, as I found it to be a truly excellent and comprehensive read for anyone with any interest at all in this debilitating, painful and miserable syndrome - especially those who are prepared to help themselves)for there is no magic answer to it. I have always maintained that any chronic disease (fibromyalgia included) represents a breakdown of health, Christine Craggs-Hinton explains just what is known about this syndrome, and then takes the reader through the various forms of treatment available - including (most importantly) a range of self-help measures to help rebuild the health - before going on to give sensitive tips on how to cope physically, mentally and emotionally with this invisible disease, in a fluent, positive and immensely readable way. 'Living with Fibromyalgia' - and fighting back too, in fact. I was particularly pleased to find a chapter on 'complementary therapies', and also one on diet - the foundation to fighting any disease, in my opinion. A really 'holistic' and informative book, which I cannot recommend too highly. Thankyou, Christine!

The definitive fibromyalgia self-help guide

As the author of Living with Fibromyalgia, I am testament to my self-help approach. Five years ago I was almost permanently bed-bound and in terrible pain. My husband had to do everything for me, including feeding me, washing me and brushing my hair. However, I am now able to sit at my computer for four hours a day, I can do light jobs around the house, I can take short walks, and I have much of my social life back! Unfortunately, substantial improvements are not gained via the doctor's prescription pad, they depend largely upon the individual's own efforts and choices. The book, then, carries the very latest research findings. It also considers the possible causes of the condition. The style and format not only ensure readers secure a better understanding of fibromyalgia, but also that they will learn how best to reduce the effects of the condition. Areas covered are the disorders commonly associated with fibromyalgia; medication; diet and the digestive system - including how chronic candida infections can cause many fibromyalgia symptoms; posture and exercise; complementary therapies known to be useful in treating the condition; pain management techniques, and finally a sensitive chapter addressing in detail the emotional consequences of fibromyalgia and how best to deal with them. The book has been endorsed by leading fibromyalgia experts in the UK.

This great book has helped turn my life around!

This book was me. It described my symptoms exactly, explaining the intricacies of the condition in an easy-to-understand, down-to-earth way. At last I knew what was going on in my body, and at last I could begin to take action, for, as well as factual information and resource data, this book is full of great suggestions. The chapter on pain and stress management has been particularly useful, and is explained in such a comforting, caring way that it had me riveted. I am now in much less pain because of this book. Not only that, I have the confidence to deal with different situations and recently even went on my first holiday abroad for ten years! Thankyou for helping me to turn my life around, Christine!
