This is a comprehensive book on the subject of ENT/craniofacial surgery. Academic approach, well written, clear and detailed yet short and right to the point. Richly illustrated with a well appreciated, color-atlas in the end. Good prise, fits nicely in your pocket. Based on the disciplined germanic tradition, aiming to teach, rather then sell.

SOME Good Advice

Review Date: 2008-07-10
I bought this book out of complete desperation. I have suffered more than 20 years with chronic infections. I have done it all 2 sinus surgeries, allergy meds, allergy shots and home remedies. This book did provide some great education on diet tips, sinus irrigation, allergies and asthma. I think it is a great book if you are lost and are unaware of contributing factors. However, all these remedies have helped a little, but I still suffer terribly. So where to go from here??

I wish I had this info 25 years ago!

I have suffered from sinus infections all my life, 6 or more per year. Since I started following the information in this book, I have dropped to one or so per year. I highly recommend the sinus irrigation detailed in the book. I use a WaterPik and the nasal attachment for it. I wish I had known about this as a kid because I would not have wasted so much time being sick.

Honestly, I bought this book at a health food store, and not from Amazon. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let me tell you that I would STRONGLY recommend this book. It had a good amount of information all in one place about allergies, asthma, and sinusitis. The nasal irrigation that is reccomended (one whole chapter) works very well, and has given me remarkable results that I did NOT get from just using salt water and a neti pot. There was some very helpful information here that I thought was well-reasoned and backed by evidence. Nothing crazy, just stuff that works. The most important thing, I have been suffering, and I feel so much better!! thanks!

Thrilled to know about other solutions besides antibiotics!

I am thrilled to have read this book and know that there are a whole spectrum of choices out there to try for sinus problems other than antibiotics! I have been a sinus sufferer for over 2 yrs. now with allergies causing sinus headaches, pressure and dizziness. Multiple courses of antibiotics have not completely helped and I decided to read and research what I can do to help myself and try solutions that the doctors I've seen have not been thorough about. This book has given me so much hope and I have tried several of the solutions - warm, moist compress, hot tea, drinking lots of water, papaya enzymes and Neti Pot. So far, so good, but I'm sure it'll take a few weeks to get into a routine. I have been so disappointed with some of the other reviews of this book accusing the writers of heavily promoting Grossan's Hydropulse irrigation system. In fact, the system only features in a small section of the book, and the book is SO much more than promotion, it gives a whole wide spectrum of suggestions and choices that one can try to help themselves. I would highly recommend this book to give yourself some hope and also the Harvard Medical School Guide to Healing Your Sinuses.

Believe me, this book is great for ENT rotation! Covers all things that Attendings will ask you. Also the author, Dr. Bull, is a very funny guy and makes jokes that'll keep you interested. Great addition to your library!

Good but not comprehensive.

ABC of ENT

Review Date: 2008-02-17
This is an excellent text for medical students studying Ear, Nose and Throat. It covers all the basics and is suitable even for junior doctors, especially those who are doing an ENT job as part of a rotation in General Practice inthe UK. It will not be adequate for juniors planning a career in ENT or for specialist registrars (Key Topics in Otolaryngology is far more in depth).

Nonetheless it is a well written and concise text. The chapter on facial pain (contributed by prof N Jones) is particulary useful as it debunks many myths about the link between facial pain and sinusitis.

This is a nice little book going over anatomy, pathogenesis and some treatment of common ENT problems. The pictures are black and white and there not so many diagrams but the advice is solid and its very easy to read while in the office. If you supplement the book with Netter's Atlas of Anatomy, you can have a good grasp of things. Would have liked some disease example pictures but that probably would make the book longer.

This is the most absorbing of ENT texts, ideal for students as it focuses on concepts and does cover all the important facts. The layout is very organized and information has been presented in an orderly and logical manner. It is by all means a worthwhile investment.

Interesting Polypoid Uvula Displacement: A Clinical History
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-26
This is a brief article taken from "Ear, Nose and Throat Journal" (82:3, p. 347, May 1, 2003) concerning a rather unusual case of a polyp displacing the uvula and soft palate of a 35 year old male patient. The method of removal is detailed (endoscopic excision, and cleanup with a backbiter and microdebrider): the patient made a complete recovery and experienced complete relief of the nasal obstruction that had been occluding his left nostril.

The article is well written and informative for specialists in the field, but given the brevity of the article (less than one page; 639 words) I believe the price is excessive. Nonetheless, this presents an interesting clinical history of polypoid uvula displacement.

I bougth this book, hoping to review for the exam by doing test questions and getting the hang of the exam. However, this book did not prove helpful at all. The questions had detailed answers but it did not give typical senerios or common use medicical practice. To take the boards exam you need practice practice practice with questions not just reading questions.
I would not recommend this product.

Not what I thought it was.

While there is a lot of good information in this book, it leads one to believe that it is made up of thousands of question/answer type pages. While it does offer the question, and then the answer, it is not in a test format. There is no multiple choice, it is just the question, followed by the answer. Not a great study tool for a test when professional test organizers suggest that the best way to study is to do many multiple choice test questions which is the format for the test.
