"The topic of this compilation is timely and significant, as many service providers struggle with female clients who are at risk for contracting HIV and with a literature that has focused on AIDS transmission in male populations at the expense of issues and topics specific to women. The aritcles present clear and thoughtful expositions of theory, together with case illustrations that provide insights into treatment issues."

This book is a new but excellent resource for high school students. I will be able to use it in both my regular and advanced biology classes. The book tackles some very tough topics and it is the first I have seen that allows experts to translate difficult topics into something useable and valuable to high school students. The topics are also very timely for students interested in how biology relates to the news. I wish the book and the Anatomy and Physiology companion volumes were available in Spanish.

The baked goods in this book that I have tried were all delicious. After trying a lot of "alternative" recipes that were just plain awful, this book, produced by someone who is obviously a good and experienced baker, was a relief and a pleasure. I bought this cookbook on the strength of the Date Nut Bread alone. It is fantastic.
If you are looking for a way to remove refined sweeteners from your diet and yet still be able to enjoy cakes, muffins, ice cream pie, etc. I would recommend you try this cookbook. The author uses different types of natural, nutritive sweeteners, including pureed fruits, fruit juices, rice or malt syrup and stevia. She also uses whole grain flours and gives alternatives so you can adjust recipes to suit your needs.
There is also a handy appendix with helpful info on finding hidden sugar in products, making the transition, allergies, low salt cooking and more.
This cookbook is a treasure.

This book arrived, as promised, full of information that I had not read in other books covering thyroid disease. I have not finished it in it's entirety, however it is safe to say that I would highly recommend it to others suffering from this ailment. The subject is covered extremely well, from various perspectives, and leaves the thyroid patient feeling more in control of the disease, from having such a great heads up from many sources.

I wish I had been able to read this book years ago. I have been living with thyroid disease for many years now, and suffering needlessly for the entire time. This book was a God-send, and has opened my eyes to the entirety of my disease. She explains in very simple terms what thyroid disease is, and how to find a GOOD doctor who will help alleviate the symptoms and treat the disease properly. I would recommend this book to everyone who has thyroid disease, even if you have had it for a long time.

I bought this book shortly after I learned I was hypo-thyroid. I had high expectations, because of hearing about Mary's books on her forums. I was severely disappointed. This book didn't tell me anything new...I had read the website,Stop The Thyroid Madness.... and that website had vast information vs. Mary's book. I also bought one of her e-books about Thyroid and Hair loss and was also disappointed. It didn't tell me anything new, at all. Her forum site has become a vehicle to sell her books, and not a open forum on thyroid health...New information is not allowed to be exchanged on the list if it pertains to other than Mary's books or websites....very Sad. I will look elsewhere for up-to-date relevant thyroid information.

I gave copies to my sister and parents, too; so that when my son visits them, they would have a ready supply of recipes to keep him fed. Well worth every penny!

Thank you so much for your wonderful cook book. I felt it was wrote just for my family!. I have 3 boys and my youngest is 16 months old and has severe food allergies to nuts, eggs and dairy. Since finding out his allergies at 12 months I have felt stumped with what to make for family meals that we can all eat with out feeling like a short order cook make separate items for Levi. Due to his asthma and food allergies he is small for his age and I am always worried hes not getting enough carbs. For months now we have been feeding him fruit, veggies and meat almost only because I can only find limited things to mean his restrictions. But to much fruit and veggies was upsetting his tummy so when I started looking for allergy cookbooks I was disappointed that they all were for the top 8, I didn't want to take out more out of his diet than I had to until I came across your cookbook. It was exactly the same allergies we have I was soo ecstatic I immediately ordered it and called my mom to tell her there was hope! Thank you so much. I have had in only 2 weeks but have made at least 8 items so far and the whole family loves it. finally we are having family meals again! This book has been such a answer to prayer! My kids who are all skinny love the latkes and I'm happy to make something that will stick to there bones, and the chocolate chip bunt cake is a favorite here now, I even made it in regular pans for a birthday cake because my 6 year old loved it so much asked for it for his birthday! And tonight we are trying the wheat germ and jam chicken recipe.
I just want you to know how much I love this book and I am so thankful that you took the time to compile all your egg, dairy and nut wisdom for other moms out there with the same battles.

I bought this cookbook about a year after my daughter was first diagnosed with food allergies, and it has been a wonderful resource for me in the kitchen. Before I bought this cookbook, I used to make two meals, one for my daughter and another meal for the rest of us. With these recipes, I found that I could make one meal that was safe, and that tasted great, for the entire family! I recommend this cookbook to everyone struggling to find ways to feed their Allergy Family!! - Owner, Meraby's Allergy Family Foods

I highly recommend this book to anyone that has to cook for a loved one with dairy, egg, and nut allergies. You really take for granted the foods you eat every day untill they become unsafe for a familiy member. I was thrilled to be able to make pancakes, cookies, and cake for my daughter with these allergies. She is my youngest of three- so we all eat foods prepared with recipes from this book- and they are good. The recipes are easy to follow and use common ingredience. It has been really difficult to find resources for these specific food allergies. This book is great!!!

We all know how these "...For Dummies" books read: for the most part, you just read one or two chapters to get the gist of your interest and then you're done. Not the case with this book. Danna's sense of humor keeps you reading about things that you initially thought you'd have no interest in. For example, who'd-a thunk that wheat was relatively new in the diet of humans? I didn't expect to buy this book and get a history lesson, but having read every word of every chapter...I got a little history, a little science, a little anatomy, and a lot of humor.
My wife was only recently diagnosed with Celiac's. It was frightening to think about...for both of us. With a portable "cheat-sheet" of no-no ingredients, simple and tasty recipies, and tid-bits of trivia - this book has been invaluable to us and we HIGHLY recommend it's purchase!!

With more health professionals recognizing celiac disease for the problem it is, this book was really helpful, in an easy format, in understanding what would help sufferers of celiac disease and what are possible substitutes, using gluten-free foods. Thankfully, more local grocery stores are supplying gluten-free, wheat-free foods so it's not terribly difficult to find relief!

Wonderfull! This is the best book out there, I bought many but this one was by far the best! My daughter was only 10 months old when diagnosed. Initially I thought, it wouold be pretty easy to avoid gluten, oh well it's not and I got a bit overwhelmed I still sometimes do! It's hidden in labels such as "natural flavoring" or "coloring" ect. , who knew Soysauce is highly glutenous and while Malt is very glutenous, Maltodextrin on the other hand is not! She wrote the book so easy to read, with lots of little laugh-teasers in it and so you can start in any chapter you want. She herself is a Celiac and has been through all the trials and errors we have been through and or are going through! She helped in every aspect of learning the glutenfree diet and how to live with this, including explaining the desease or diet to people and so on! There is nothing NOT covered!
There is only ONE thing in the book I do disagree totally and that is, that you could use one toaster for both breads, glutenous and non glutenous, you'd just have to carefully whipe the grits inside! Besides risking a new hair-do if you forget to unplugg the toaster first you could never just wipe the gluten off the griss it's that sticky! Since things get hot in there there is no way you can get all of the gluten out and since traces even make the Celiacs sick, my daughter inlcuded, I don't think this is save. I recommend to get a toaster with 4 slots.
I separated the toaster with a big black permanent marker, marked on top several times around the two to-be glutenfree slots including a fat middle-line, as well as the pushbutton and the front. In those four-sloters you can take out the crumble-drawers individually one for two at a time, it is perfectly save to use one toaster for both breads. You just have to pay attention that you do not put glutenous bread in to the glutenfree slots, I had never a problem with it and even though we use both sides everyday, my daughter never had a issue with cross-contamination ever and you don't have to have two toasters!
Good luck, being gluten-sensitive or Celiac sucks, but once you got the hang of the diet (which in average takes about a year until you know ALL the traps and tricks and what not)- it's a lifestyle and becomes easy. I'm on my way there, but still have a bit to go! In either case, I'm the proud parent of a little celiac!

I can absolutely not say enough good things about this book! My 3 yr old daughter is allergic to eggs, milk, potatoes, bananas, and peanuts. I can't use the typical "egg substitute" that you buy at the store because it contains potato starch. And other egg substitutes often don't work with baked goods. However, this book uses regular ingredients that you can buy at most grocery stores.(I substitute soy-based products where dairy is present, i.e. milk, butter, yogurt.) But the kicker is--they taste pretty much the same as regular. In fact, for a couple of these recipes (the chocolate chip & the sugar cookies), my husband increduously asked me if these were safe for our daughter! :) I have made chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, white cake, ginger cookies, and pumpkin bars. Every one of them tasted SO MUCH better than everything else I've tried. I've never had an allergy cookbook that I could find more than one or two recipes that worked right and tasted good (and that was after trying dozens). So far in this cookbook, I'm 5 for 5! If you have a egg-allergic child, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book.

My 3 year old son is allergic to eggs as well as peanuts and tree nuts. Although I have found some recipes I like, and most importantly he likes, I struggled to find cake recipes that tasted great, were moist, and didn't sink. My cake frustration ended when I tried some recipes from this cookbook. I made the Silver White Cake with buttercream icing for his recent 3rd birthday party and everyone loved it. It looked great and tasted great. Also, many of the recipes in this book give you the option for adding or not including nuts. I've made a few of the cookie recipes and they've all turned out well too.

This Book is Fantastic! We use the recipes in this book all of the time and it has been so helpful for my son who is egg allergic. I get asked all of the time; 'do you have that recipe?' and every Christmas I am asked to bring the chocolate cake because the whole family loves it! Thank you so much for writing this book! It has been a lifesaver!
