The debut chapter book for children and young adults by playwright, director, and teacher Judd Lear Silverman, Eddie Has Allergies is a short, humorous story about a young boy afflicted with severe allergies. As Eddie copes with the sinus-afflicting hazards of the day, he feels increasingly isolated, as his allergies prevent him from enjoying the activities that kids do and the medicines that suppress his allergies make him so drowsy he falls asleep and dreams bizarre dreams in class. Then a surprisingly magical occurrence helps him discover a bright side to his problems, and the potential for greatness within himself. Threaded with wacky dialogue and rib-tickling puns, Eddie Has Allergies is especially recommended for public and school library collections, as well as young people learning to deal with allergies in themselves, their relatives, or their friends.

The Best Kept Secret

Everything You Need To Know About Enzymes is a book written by a caring professional who understands the body and how enzymes promote better health. He's taken so much time to learn and create excellent chapters and sections that offer people real life solutions. You would think that enzymes only help with digestion, reflux and GI disorders. But what I love most about the book is that Bohager doesn't stop there. He offers real life solutions which are simple (because you use enzymes!) to help you beat allergies, canker sores, gout, shingles, migraines, hair loss...even Lyme disease. He doesn't miss a thing and I plan to keep this easy-to-read book for many years. I've already begun on one of his plans and feel better already. I trust his advice, it's not designed to pitch a product, it's truly designed to advance one's health so read it with an open heart. This book is like the best kept secret, I wish I had it 10 years ago and feel that the advice within is so much more useful than conventional drug approaches. I need to read it again, because it's one of those books where you learn something new each time you scan it.

Keep this book on hand-it's a great reference to have to help you and loved ones deal with sickness in the family--it delivers valuable information that's fairly impossible to find any where else.

No More Cardboard Cooking for Allergies!

Review Date: 2002-08-08
So many allergy specialty cookbooks end up with gooey, or bland tasting recipes that are far from exciting.

This book, however, changes all of that. Interesting, easy-to-use, delicious, and practical, this book could be the only one that you need if you suffer from any food allergies or sensitivities.

It is excellently laid out, with fascinating and thorough information, and I have used it again and again. Although it is not as gourmet as I usually eat, it is sufficient for the average cook/chef that has to deal with allergies in their household.

I highly recommend this book.

MUST HAVE COOKBOOK! (for anyone with food allergies)

As a person who is allergic to wheat, dairy, and eggs, I found this book to be an absolute lifesaver. Anyone with food allergies would know how difficult it is to buy or make alternatives that are cheap, simple, and most importantly taste good. I was very excited when I found this book because it is full of delicious, everyday recipes that are very easy to make. Besides being allergic to many different kinds of foods, I am also a college student living on my own. I didn't have much cooking experience, but I had no problems following the recipes. Another great thing about this book is that the ingredients in the recipes are used over and over again in different ways so there is very little waste. The recipes are also arranged neatly in different catagories, and the book includes detailed information about different ingredients and a rotation diet. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone suffering from food allergies because it has allowed me to enjoy many common recipes I otherwise could not have eaten. I thank the authors with all my heart for writing this much needed book.

After reading "The Feel Good Handbook" (that's MSG FREE's - New Title) I realized how TOXIC I was. I started to clean out my system according to the books guidelines and "hidden sources" lists! What an incredible difference eating correctly does for your body! I've lost 48lbs!! My symptoms were as normal as the next person's (migraines, digestive problems, bloating, heartburn, anxiety, depression) after I ate a favorite meal or anything for that matter. It's been a living hell!! With the help of "The Feel Good Handbook" I've realized how sensitive I truly was to the nasty affects MSG has on my system - and everyone elses!!Thanks Annie for getting the TRUTH out about those nasty excitotoxins and "free glutamic acids" in our food supplies! Check your labels everyone - THIS IS FOR REAL!!!!!!

Incredible resource guide, up-to-date, easy to read & robust

This book finally opened my eyes to what was causing a huge amount of problems I was experiencing. Headaches, stomach problems, sleeplessness, anxiety; I thought I was going to have a heart attack once! My doctor was treating me for "stress" related disorders and I was better, however continuing to suffer only milder symptoms.

After reading the book, I carried around the "hidden sources list" with me when I went shopping. It was amazing how many of the items on this list appeared on packaged food labels! Even "fresh" items like cheese and dairy products! It took a few weeks to see improvement because we had to sort out the good from the bad in our cupboards following the books advice. Once we did, not only did my headaches and bellyaches go away, so to did my husbands! I was shocked and amazed - "one ingredient" could cause so much pain. This book is a must buy if you are MSG sensitive!

Simply the Holy Grail of known physiopathology of oral tolerance, compromised oral tolerance, and all conditions linked to food antigens, additives, and appurtenances related thereto. While several years have passed since publication, a review of the last several years literature accompanied by reading this text will add immensely to the clinical competency of any physician or dietitian rendering care. No where can the physician or dietitian find this much information on this subject in one text.

This book suggests how to successfully substitute products according to your specific allergies. The recipes in the book are easy and delicious, but the information in the book on what to substitute when really opens the doors to making your old favorite recipes allergy free. This book really covered it all for me. I highly recommend it!

Recipes, like any good book or cd, should be passed on to friends. Well, every dish I've made so far from this book I have had to share! The recipes are fantastic (the banana honey cake is ridiculously good) and very simple to follow according to the specific allergy. The book begins with helpful advice on the basic lifestyle changes needed to cope with food allergies -from cooking at home, to dining out, traveling and visiting friends. Substitute ingredients are clearly explained and I have learned a great deal in such a short time. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone with any interest in cooking.

Melissa Taylor's FAST book took me out of a dark place right after I was diagnosed with Severe Multiple Allergies. This book is very detailed with her experiences and her path past her allergy problems. She also gives a lot of practical advice for things for people with allergies to watch out for.

Melissa is very clear about not giving medical advice. Her ideas on how to make your own recipes from known recipes was very helpful.

I highly recommend this book for anyone diagnosed with allergies.

This is a great resource for those newly diagnosed, those with multiple food allergies, and severe food allergies. It contains practical tips for living with food allergies. It's not a cookbook, but does give help with creating your own recipes, where to find allergen-free foods. There's tips on traveling, eating out, fun non-food activies, and most of all support. The author gives examples from her own life, that are relevant to many of us with food allergies. This book is full of helps and tips to make life with food allergies easier.

Food Intolerance Bible

Review Date: 2008-06-17
The Food Intolerance Bible is an invaluable resource. Like many people, I was a little confused about the difference between food allergies and food intolerances. Many of the books I've read on these subjects use the words interchangeably. I know for a fact that I have some food allergies. As a child, I was thoroughly tested. Sure enough, if I ate enough a small quantity of those foods, my tongue immediately started to swell up and I started to gasp for breath. These early incidents were scary so I learned very quickly to stay well away from these foods.

Food intolerances are slightly different. The effects aren't always immediate or dramatic. Though careful watching of my body's reaction to certain foods, I was pretty sure that there were some foods in my regular diet (namely white flour, refined sugar, and chocolate) that were causing or exasperating problems such as abdominal pain, cramping, and depression. Unfortunately, these symptoms aren't always immediately noticeable so I tend to associate these foods with a feeling of comfort and increased energy.

The Food Intolerance Bible helped me gain an understanding of my body's reactions to certain foods. It also gave me an idea about what other conditions, illnesses, or body reactions could also be causing or adding to my problems. Now, I have a place to start.

Highly recommended for both community library cookbook and health collections.

Nearly everyone has some form of food intolerance, claims "The Food Intolerance Bible: A Nutritionist's Plan to Beat Food Cravings, Fatigue, Mood Swings, Celiac Disease, Headaches, IBS, and Deal with Food Allergies". Food Intolerance occurs when ones body rejects what you put in - and the rejection comes in a huge amount of miserable ailments to make people feel terrible for that day. With seven steps to minimize the occurrence of food intolerance, and over 70 recipes such as Plum Crumble and Black Peppercorns with Sweet Potato fries, Salmon Lasagna, and so much more on top of that, "The Food Intolerance Bible: A Nutritionist's Plan to Beat Food Cravings, Fatigue, Mood Swings, Celiac Disease, Headaches, IBS, and Deal with Food Allergies" is highly recommended for both community library cookbook and health collections.

The Best Things Come In Small Packages

This 160-page, 5 x 7 little book may be small in size by today's standards for self-help/healing books on allergies, fatigue, hypogylcemia, depression, hypothyroid, heart disease, alcoholism, and diabetes, but GOODBYE ALLERGIES is the best that I've read in years. Author Tom R. Blaine - a judge, not a doctor - speaks from experience without weighing down the manuscript with too much technical jargon. His message is clear, to the point, and as timely as the first year of publication. I found myself wondering why it has taken so many years for these concepts to finally hit the mainstream.

Judge Tom Blaine explains in an easy-to-understand manner why his recommended diet is effective at combatting allergic reactions. The book has been criticized on the basis that he is not a doctor. However, he has done his research and is mindful of both accuracy and clarity. Most importantly, the proof is in the results. My mother was at wit's end after visiting a plethora of doctors concerning a rash over most of her body. She saw this book on a discount pile and figured that it wouldn't hurt to try. In just two weeks, her rash was gone for the first time in years. My allergies are more respiratory. The program worked for me as well. Whenever I start having problems, I go on the program and my allergies clear up. I've recommended this book to many people and I encourage you to give it a try if you suffer from allergies at all.

Essential Information Packed Into This Little Book!

Review Date: 2007-11-20
This concise little book contains everything you need to know in order to provide yourself or someone in your care with excellent asthma management. Dr. Plaut has taken all of the most up-to-date knowledge we have about asthma care and has distilled it into a highly user-friendly, easy-to-read guide. It is simultaneously comprehensive and brief, complete and to-the-point. It is especially useful for those who wish to learn all they need to know but who may not have the time or inclination to read through a more detailed resource (e.g., Plaut's Asthma Guide for All Ages). I especially recommend it to anyone working with children who may have asthma: teachers, day-care providers, camp counselors, etc. I recently gave it to my teenage daughter (who has asthma) so that she could better understand how to take care of herself. With a busy teenage schedule, she would never have taken the time to read through an entire book, but One-Minute Asthma provided her with the essential information she needed to know without taking up a lot of her time.
