I enjoyed reading this book tremendously. It was such an eye opener, and more importantly, brought awareness to my day-to-day activities. This is not a typical diet book! The reader can make informed, smart lifestyle decisions through understanding and from Todd's suggestions. Not only was it informative and entertaining to read, it was motivating!

Invaluable, informed and informative, and thoroughly 'user-friendly'

The problem with the conventional wisdom regarding losing weight is that if you exercise more and eat less you can reduce your weight -- and maintain the weight level that you want. The problem is that for most of us, conventional wisdom isn't all that wise! Todd Hoff lost more than 100 pounds and in the process discovered why losing weight is so difficult, why being overweight isn't a matter of 'fault', the science behind weight loss (and gain), and how to permanently control weight through creating the perfect and personalized diet for ourselves within the context of our lifestyles. Basically what Hoff has done in "Your Designer Diet: How To Stay On Any Diet For The Rest Of Your Life" is to lay out a program that we can customize to our own life circumstances, our own personal strengths, and which is compatible with our own schedules -- be they hectic or leisurely. Hoff's basic message\ is that we can be in control of our weight, we can learn how to stay on any diet, how to avoid threats to our dieting success, diverse and effective strategies for losing weight, and maintaining our weight loss through simple daily monitoring. Of special note is what "Your Designer Diet" has to say about 'Joyful Eating'. Invaluable, informed and informative, and thoroughly 'user-friendly', "Your Designer Diet" is an enthusiastically recommended reading for anyone having to deal with problems of excessive weight.

Fibromyalgia, candida protocols

Review Date: 2008-04-08
I'm 60 and have had fibromyalgia symptoms since I was 4. It has gotten worse as I've gotten older and I've tried many things throughout the years. Dr. Wong's protocol is simple and is, for once, right on the money as far as treating a primary cause of the condition: lack of enzyme production that causes fibrin (the stuff scar tissue is made of) to build up in the muscles themselves and in the capillaries that feed the muscles, choking the muscles off from oxygen. I've already been diagnosed with excess fibrin in my blood, so I know it's real. I just never quite understood its relationship to fibromyalgia until I read Dr. Wong's book. Ditto for his candida protocol; it's relatively cheap and easy to follow, and it works like nothing else has over the past 15 years. The book is easy to read all the protocols seem fairly easy to follow.

Here's what so many doctors don't know, or won't reveal! Dr. Wong educates and entertains as he empowers the reader with some effective, safe, do-it-yourself ways to care for your own health. And its fascinating to understand how this all works, as he has done extensive and leading-edge research into health and how to achieve and maintain it, and generously shares it with the layperson. Great book for everyone's home library.

Excellent diabetes diet/nutrition resource

Review Date: 2008-07-28
This is an excellent book and a "must read" for everyone who has diabetes or who plans meals/shops/cooks for people with diabetes. I am a registered dietitian who works in an endocrine clinic and I also have a private nutrition practice. I recommend this book to all of my patients/clients with diabetes. So many people with diabetes think in terms of can't eat this or can't eat that. It's time to think about what you can eat as well as debunk the myth once and for all that people with diabetes can't eat any sugar. This book was updated in 2007 and contains everything you need to know to eat well to manage diabetes. Also covered in the book are the lastest summary recommendations of the American Diabetes Association's 2006 updated medical nutrition therapy guidelines.

" Must reading" for all diabetics and those that love them.

Wonderful book. Takes you through the beginnings of the breed and how it came to North America. Detailed information about standard physical expectations for show; personality traits of the breed; price ranges; how to pick a breeder--questions to ask; how to pick a kitten; important care instructions--physical and emotional; ..... lots of great stuff for the new Aby owner as well as those who have owned cats and/or Abys in the past. Beautiful photos! Great reading! A bit pricey, but worth the money.

People should read books like this BEFORE selecting kitty!

I recommend that anyone considering being owned by an Abyssinian read this book (the info is enlightening for already owned people as well). It covers in easily understood language everything one should know about Abyssinian Cats and how to care for them. It is simply enough written to be understood by children though not boring to adults. It could be used as a teaching tool for children in the home where kitty will live. The author starts at the beginning: How to buy the cat, acclimation, caring for it "Forever After," etc. She discusses controversial issues such as declawing (I'm personally opposed), grooming, showing, etc. The general care information would apply to most cats. But Abyssinians are very intelligent, loyal, inquisitive and active. If you want a cat that will NOT sit on the refrigerator, then perhaps this book would give the reader some understanding of the personality of the Abyssinian and guide the propsective cat owner toward making a good decision about whether or not to select this particular breed or another, less active, breed. Plenty of good photos.

Gary Price Todd was an ophthalmologist who discovred than many diseases of the eyes -- such as cataracts and macular degeneration -- could be treated effectively will appropriate nutritional supplements. From this important discovery he went on to learn that appropriate nutrients could prevent and even cure many other diseases, including heart disease. This book presents -- in very clear, readable language -- details of many of Dr. Todd's findings. It is an excellent place to start if you want to improve you health -- especially you eyesight -- with nutrition rather than undergo treatment with pharmaceutical drugs or sugery.

Indispensible book if you have macular degeneration

This book contains information of a highly respected ophthalmologist's successful treatment protocol of a disease considered "incurable": macular degenertion. It contains a list of the substances (mostly food supplements, vitamins, minerals etc. which he discovered that in combination could reverse (sometimes completely as in my husband's case) this dreaded disease about 88% of the time. I highly recommend that if you have this condition, get 2 copies and give one to your own ophthalmologist with the hope that he will be open to supervising this treatment using Dr. Todd's protocol. It requires a prescription thyroid medication (trademark: "cytomel") along with the relevant supplements. Highly readable with an explanation of the cause of this problem and other eye diseases that he has successfully treated but considered incurable by orthodoxy.

The Ultimate Antioxidant "Beginner's Guide" !
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1999-07-23
"All About Antioxidnts" is a "must read" for anyone who is serious about preventing, delaying and even reversing many of the 'degenerative' diseases (coronary artery disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, etc) that are due to destructive free radicals.

Dr. Passwater, who is one of the world's leading nutritional biochemical researchers, explains what free radicals are, what they do to the human body and how antioxidants help to prevent & even reverse free radical damage.

Every person, no matter how young or old they are, no matter how healthy they think they are, needs to understand that free radicals in the human body are unavoidable (even necessary for the immune system to fight off disease).

In this day & age of "hydrogenated oils" in our foods, chemicals in our drinking water & polluted air, your body is exposed to massive amounts of heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer's disease- causing free radicals.

Dr. Passwater explains what the most powerful & best researched antioxidants are, as well as how they function and work together as a "team" to protect against dreaded diseases.

"All About Antioxidants" makes a great 'beginner's guide' for anyone interested in learning about the true benefits of these essential nutrients.

If you want more detailed information about the individual antioxidants discussed in "All About Antioxidants",which ones to use to treat specific health problems, as well as dosaging information, I recommend you take a look at the following books - "The Healing Power of Vitamins, Minerals and Herbs" (Reader's Digest) and "Dr. Atkins Vita-Nutrient Solutions" (Firestone, Simon & Schuster).

I happened upon this book and thought I'd give it a shot. That was a year ago and I still use it a few times a week. The food is normal and delicious! My boyfriend loved almost everything I made from this book because it's stuff you would normally make. There are a few new things you will probably want to try, but also, if you have a favorite meal such as chicken cacciatore, beef stroganoff, or cheesecake this book has the recipe and shows you how to make it healthful and still delicious. I use the weight watchers points system and had no trouble converting recipes. It also gives exchange, fat and calorie values for dieters who use a different program. I highly recommend it! It's worth it!

I cannot believe what a difference this book has made in my life. I did not realize how tired I was until I began following the guidance of this book in avoiding certain foods and including others in my diet. Within a week I was feeling better. I had no idea how tired and sluggish I had been--I have so much more energy now, particularly in the evenings when I was usually tired after coming home from work. I highly recommend that you try this book. It's easy to read and well worth the time and money.
