It's so important for parents to be educated about vaccinations. Unfortnately it's up to us to do our own research - even the best pediatricians aren't always up to date on the latest vaccination research. The more you read and research, the more you realize how important it is to do so and not just blindly follow the recommended schedule - there are so many small things you can do when vaccinating to make sure your kids are safe that I would never have known w/o my research. This book is an easy to read guide that takes you thru each vaccination, the pros & cons and really helps to educate parents. It does lean a bit towards the anti-vaccination opinion however it's still incredibly edcational. I've ordered a number of books and videos so that I can get all sides and would recommend that other parents do the same. I would highly recommend this book!

This book is great because she is both a doctor and holistic. She lists what is in the vaccines and their issues while at the same time explaining all about the dangers of the disease and treatments so the reader can make their own decision.

I got scared about all this vaccination-autism fuss, and this book is very informative about vaccinations, it gives you tips and all the information to make a decision and even investigate more about all this. I feel more prepared and confident when I talk to my pediatrician; we have to take all this very seriously because we are our children's voice.

This book was great for me; it gave me information that I didn't find in other places. However, I can not say that it is impartial; it tries to correct for the widespread misinformation. It might be a good introduction to the material for some but definitely not for all, because of its bias. It can definitely help you choose what is best for your child as an individual, but it can not serve as your only source in making that choice (unless you are sold on not vaccinating at all). It simply doesn't have enough details about the actual ingredients to weigh the risks with the benefits; the author seems to conclude that none of the vaccines are worth the risks. As someone who has chosen to selectively vaccinate my children, I did find the book helpful. The first source I use is Dr. Sears' The Vaccine Book because it has factual information about the ingredients. This book is the second source I use for a little more information on the issue. I don't think this book really lives up to its subtitle "practical medical and natural ways to protect your child." Also, I agree with some other criticisms about her use of language. From an editorial standpoint, this book is not a final copy. It is only a revision or two away, but it is not properly polished. Quite a shame. I am still grateful I have this source.

This is an absolutely important and phenominal read for anybody. I'm only about 1/2 way through this book, but it is completely fascinating and hard to put down. We Americans have been lied to regarding vaccinations and the diseases (as in how deadly they are) and this book through the writings and references proves it. This has made my position of not vaccinating my children become more concrete. I feel much more educated on this history, disease and vaccine. I would highly recommend it for anyone.

This book belongs in every home and doctors office

As concerned parents, we have been researching the safety and effectiveness of vaccines for many months. We participated in a presentation were the speaker was one of my favorite researchers and authors on the topic, Neil Z. Miller. He is a medical research journalist and natural health advocate and author of numerous articles and books on vaccines. Miller is also the director of the Think Twice Global Vaccine Institute. He has a degree in psychology (with an emphasis on statistical analysis) and is a member of Mensa.

The presentation was about two hours and only touched the surface on the extensive amount documented data he has discovered through government, medical and scientific journals. He started researching vaccines before his son was born over 23 years ago. What began as a parental endeavor for information turned into a public awareness crusade.

He tells us most of the vaccine information that the public is told is misinformation and propaganda. Accurate data is not released through regular media outlets.

During the presentation they polled the audience on various questions. We learned that the U.S. has more vaccinations than any other country in the world and we also have the 42nd worst infant mortality rate in the world.

Dr. Baylock, a well known neurosurgeon has documented damage in children's brains due to toxic overload from vaccines. He wrote the compelling foreword of Miller's latest book.

The "idea" that vaccines will keep our children safe is like playing russian roulette. Miller advocates parents being fully informed and know that they have freedom of choice, especially when it comes to the health and well being of their children. "Don't count on your doctors to give you all he information." Miller warns. He suggests looking at each vaccine independently and that is exactly was he has presented for all people in his book: Vaccine Safety Manual for Concerned Families and Health Practitioners.

We live in a pill popping society where there is a drug for every ailment, but we have more chronic conditions and diseases than we have ever had before. Drug companies continue to make drugs and vaccine manufacturers will continue to make vaccines. They will put pressure on the FDA to say that they are safe and the CDC to recommend them to the schedule. Currently families that follow the recommended schedule are giving their children 36 drugs by 18 months of age. "We are injecting healthy people with unhealthy substances." Miller said.

Miller says, "There are more vaccines in the pipeline". The next big push is for adolescent and adults vaccines, even vaccines for those with addictions. There are no studies done on combination vaccines and how they react with one another. Not to mention any reactions with other environmental, drug or food chemicals or toxins.

"This is not hearsay. I have documented all of this information." Miller says. The FDA and CDC have a 12-15 member panel. The FDA determines what will be licensed and the CDC will then recommend it to the schedule.

Congressmen Dan Burton held congressional hearings to investigate these committees. There were clear conflicts of interest including, members that owned stock or patent to a vaccine or they were paid consultants to the vaccine manufactures.

In June of 2000 there was a `secret' meeting of top officials from Big Pharma, FDA and CDC. There they discussed the evidence that vaccines were harmful and instead of alerting parents they spent the rest of the weekend on how they were going to cover it up. Robert Kennedy Jr wrote and article about this story for Rolling Stone in 2005. Click here to read article.

Miller also addressed some common questions including mercury being removed from vaccines. In 1999 AAP said mercury was going to be removed from vaccines; however it was not required for the current stock of vaccines to be returned or destroyed. Three years later to balance that out, it was mandated that children get multiple flu vaccines that had high concentrations of mercury (thimerisol the chemical that contains 50% mercury).

Many parents choose to space out vaccines or create their own schedule. Miller thinks there may be some merit to it. He gave a drinking analogy. The reactions are different if you have shot after shot of tequila or have 1 tequila shot that night out with your friends. He still warns that if you decided to space out or do single shots the vaccines still come with significant reactions. There is no testing or screening to know if a child has a predisposition or may have a reaction.
We do know that more and more children are having reactions and autism is on the rise. The good news is for parents that choose not to vaccinate there are either religious or philosophical exemptions available.

Miller tells us that Autism rates surpasses cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. This is a true epidemic. He also mentions the flu statistics are false. "More people die in this country from asthma and malnutrition than the flu." Miller also spoke of the link between vaccines and asthma, mercury and autism but was very clear that mercury is not the only problem. "All of this information is documented information," he repeats.

We are conditioned to believe that vaccines are safe and vaccines are effective. If this was true children would not be having reactions and dying and people that were vaccinated would not get the disease. This is clearly not the case.

Another astounding bit of information was about the Polio Vaccine. There is an industry that raises monkeys and then kills them to use their kidneys to develop the polio vaccine.
Monkeys carry several viruses and one in particular, SV-40 is known to cause cancer. Numerous people were infected and cancer rates have increased 20-30% around the world.
This virus is also transmitted similarly to AIDS.

The Vaccine Safety Manual is the world's most complete guide to immunization risks and protection. It includes pertinent information on every major vaccine: polio, tetanus, MMR, hepatitis A, B, HPV (cervical cancer), Hib, Flu, chickenpox, shingles, rotavirus, pneumococcal, meningococcal, RSV, DTaP, anthrax, smallpox, TB, and more. All of the information, including detailed vaccine safety and efficacy data, is written in an easy-to-understand format, yet includes more than 1,000 documented citations. More than 75 charts, graphs and illustrations supplement the text. This encyclopedic health manual is an important addition to every family's home library and will be referred to again and again.

My wife and I are going to be new parents soon, so the subject of vaccine safety is important to us. With all of the information on the Internet (pro vs. con), it's hard to find a good resource in one place. Mr. Miller's book answers the mail, as this book is a well-researched and invaluable resource to have at your disposal. Miller has clearly done his homework, citing hundreds of studies, documentation and personal testimonies. He clearly cares about getting to the truth of this debate and in the process, has done his readers a great service.

Raises excellent issues but uses misleading graphs and data
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-23
The author has done extensive research into the effects of immunizations and presents much data that would be lead a person to believe that vaccinations do much harm and provide no benefit.

In the forward by George R. Schwartz, MD, he states that "a voice is seeking dialogue and requiring counterpoint" (page 8). Dr. Schwartz does not provide this counterpoint but only states that he "advocates the standard vaccinations" (page 7). But this is critical for the average reader to make an informed decision. Both sides of the issue should be presented in this book in order to help the reader make the best decision possible. Perhaps a format where the author presents his findings with an opposing view of from the medical establishment and rebuttals would serve the reader best.

The book presents some very convincing statistics, however I was very disappointed in the misleading manner some of the numbers were reported.

Many times the author points out that infection rates were falling before the vaccine was introduced and implies that the continued rate of decline was not due to the vaccine. Although the prior decline is relevant it doesn't prove that the vaccine is not effective. The infection rate might have stabilized at a higher rate without the vaccine. Even if the vaccine were effective this argument could be used to show that it wasn't. The data that needs to be compared to resolve this are infection rates for comparable populations of those vaccinated versus those not vaccinated.

Another example is on page 29 where it states that "In 1989, 89% of all school-aged children in the U.S. who contracted measles were adequately vaccinated". This is a misleading way to present the numbers. It makes it impossible to evaluate the effectiveness of the vaccine. To demonstrate this, suppose that million children were vaccinated and 22 were not. Also suppose that there were 89 cases of measles from the vaccinated group and 11 cases from those not vaccinated. In this scenario 89% of cases are from vaccinated persons. However what needs to be compared is the percent of cases in the vaccinated group versus the percent of cases in the non-vaccinated group. In this example 0.0089% of the vaccinated group became ill versus 50% of the non-vaccinated group. These numbers are fabricated and are only used to demonstrate that some of the statistics reported in this book can be misleading and are not the best data to using in determining the efficacy of the vaccination.

What I find more troublesome is that author "is a medical research journalist", has a degree with "an emphasis on statistical analysis", and is a member of Mensa (a society for those with a genius level I.Q.). With this background the author, Neil Miller, must realize that the data mentioned above is misleading and is not the relevant statistic to compare to judge the harm or benefit of the vaccination in question. What is needed is the rate of infection, death, or other complications, such as autism, in similar groups of vaccinated versus non-vaccinated populations. After seeing data presented in a purposely misleading fashion I came to question the author's sincerity when he states that "I merely try to present the facts in a clear and straightforward manner".

In conclusion I would like to point out that the author has done society a great service to gather a tremendous amount of information and raise very important issues regarding vaccinations. His conclusions might very well be correct! However the reader would greatly benefit if the author expanded the book and co-authored it with those of the medical establishment propounding alternate views and then include a series of rebuttals. With the tremendous amount of medical information available and contradicting positions the reader is generally left with doubts and concerns. Having an open dialog, as proposed in the forward of the book by Dr. George Schwartz, might help resolve and clarify many issues in the reader's mind.

You owe it to the health of your child to do the reasearch before allowing him/her to be immunized. I have done alot of reading and talked to several Dr.'s and have decided against any immunizations. The information is out there. Why take a risk? I started seeking info. after I became pregnant because I worked with a man who has a 5 yr. old that is severly damaged by the DPT vaccine. He was a thriving baby, doing everything on time until his 6 month vaccines. That night he started having severe seizures, up to 100 per day. Now he is unable to walk, talk, or function at all. It's sad. I will not take that chance and I have made an informed decision. You can double check Mr. Miller's information. He's not making any of this up. It's based on fact, not opinion.

I just read a report today (February 23, 2006) stating that a panel of pediatricians are recommending that all children, from 6 months to 5 years of age, be REQUIRED an annual vaccination against the flu virus! Whoa, whoa, whoa their boy. Not so fast. Enter Neil Miller's brigade of truth-seekers. Miller's book should be a must-read for any cognizant parent who wants to keep their children out of harms way of Big-Pharma controlled CDC, FDA, HHS, etc. Well documented and brilliantly researched, it answers the questions as to why the Germ Theory and Isopathic theory are flawed, the consequences of the blind "facts" of vaccination success, and how we can empower ourselves against the Pharmaceutical Beast. Compulsory vaccination programs need to be halted at once, and Neil Miller's expose will pave the way for the re-education of a once-enlightened, responsible society.

'Immunizations', a euphemism for forced vaccinations, have outwardly cost 500 million dollars and an impending estimated 1.5 billion dollars from current lawsuits from caused deaths and disabilities. Neil Z. Miller's expose on the likely insanity and dangers of this 'treatment' seems very well documented. Studies show the inefficacy of vaccination but its practice goes on.

Miller points to obvious data showing that the amount of vaccination in a culture is in direct proportion to its disease incidence. Miller ties in the facts of our rampant and zealous childhood vaccination programs with our extremely high infant mortality rate (for a developed country). These vaccinations typically contain mercury, aluminum and formaldehyde. An adverse reaction from a vaccine on a child is not attributed to the vaccine if the reactin occurs more than a few hours later. This and other unsound data collecting techniques protect this possibly lethal practice.

U.S. soldiers from the Gulf War had a high incidence of complications. The British and French troops did not. The difference? The American soldiers received extensive 'immunizations' (including anthrax) before their deployment.

Miller also brings up the quite alarming possibility that the AIDS epidemic was a purposeful event on the peoples of Central Africa. The countries that received our 'help' with extensive immunizations (known live viruses along with plenty unknown viruses found in monkeys) had the highest incidence of this disease.

Hopefully Neil Miller's work will get the attention it deserves from the World Health Organization and others so that if there is healing to be done from this travesty, it can be done now... and a lesson can be learned.

This book was well worth a second read. I first read it in 1996. As a member of the generation that was allowed to get the measles and chicken pox, this book made sense to me. As the parent of a child brain-damaged from pertussis vaccine toxins, I welcomed this well researched work. I wish I had read it when I was pregnant with Bill. I read so much on nutrition and breast-feeding. I did not even know that infants were vaccinated before I took my son to his first well-baby visit at 6 weeks old. I thought it was just that, a well baby visit. The doctor's attempt to fix what was not broken resulted in a developmentally delayed baby and then later a moderately mentally retarded adolescent. Now with a mentally retarded adult child, I can say there is nothing moderate about post-vaccinal encephalopathy. The politics of immunology is well reported in this little book. It is very to the point. Mr. Miller proves his thesis over and over again and vindicates those professionals who have gone against the grain and refused to participate and those parents whose voices are too seldom given a hearing on this issue. I love a good expose' and this is the best of its genre. It's a great murder mystery, a whodunit that Mr. Miller unravels in great style. The truth is always good, sometimes it goes down a little hard. The price of the book is little to pay for a truth I learned the hard way. ie The truth that corporate profits are being served and not public health. I have bought several copies and given them away. The reality of the tragedy and the scale of this tragedy that he reports on has been suppressed. As a Holocaust Studies major, I cannot help but notice the similarities between attrition by vaccination and the systematic nature of the other war against civilians. One of those similarities has been the refusal to believe atrocity stories. As a parent who 22 years ago began telling of the terrible trauma inflicted on my innocent son, I feel vindicated but I don't feel better. Two of the chapters in this book are "Human sacrifices" and "Genocide". Find out what are federal government has been up to while we have been looking the other way. Margaret S. Scheuer

This book provides much needed insight into the essential pillars of medical and legal ethics. Her meticulous work greatly helps in the final analysis of the dilemma facing all potential recipients of Vaccines. If a medical procedure like vaccines can't even pass basic medico/legal ethical standards, should we be so quick to have our children or ourselves repeatedly exposed or injected with the stuff? Thank you Catherine for your most timely book.

Catherine Diodati's work is the best that I have read to date regarding the issue of immunization. It is written in a style that is easy to read, with some acidic wit thrown in at just the appropriate place to keep the topic semi-lighthearted. The book is well researched, well referenced, and well documented with just enough politics of health care to help the reader reach the only conclusion that can be reached. BRAVO!

This book will open your eyes to the hip-pocket relationship that our government has with the pharmaceutical companies. When our son received his third series of shots @ six months he was very, very sick. Doctors continued to prescribe antibiotics, but this only brought on other problems. Finally we began seeking alternatives for our poor son and a chiropractor handed me this book. Our son never went back for another vaccine and, after months of careful diet, he's now in excellent health. This book will give you the other side of the vaccine story. This book will also make you very angry at the government agencies who are supposed to protect our children. It should be given to every expectant mother in every prenatal class in the country. O'Shea's prose is straightforward and his sources easily checked. This book changed my life, and may have saved my sons.

Matter of life and death

My daughter died at 2 months old, right after receiving her 2 month vaccination coctail. The official cause of death was Acute Interstial Pneumonia which killed her in less than 3 hours from the onset of symptoms. This according to the Chief Coroner of LA County. So, pneumonia is now more virulent and kills quicker than Ebola? Not without help. The vaccinations obliterated her immune system, allowing the pneumonia to grow unchecked and unfettered. 3 hours. I know what killed her now after a decade of wondering. We checked the timeline. Rechecked her exposures. It all fits.

Lemme just say that we were a family that was extremely dilligent in ensuring our kids were vaccinated. On time. Well, my eldest son is high functioning Autistic and I developed Crohn's disease after a massive battery of vaccines upon entering Navy Boot Camp.

So, just in one family, we have one death, one neurological dysfunction and one permanent disability. All from and directly correlatable to vaccinations.

What's stunning is that once you read this book, you'll come to realize that my story isn't unique or even rare. It's fascinating in a grotesque way to see in detail how it all works. How in 1797, a guy takes puss from a cow, injects it into a 9 year old boy and because the boy doesn't die, this guy claims he's cured Smallpox. True story. Moreover, other than suspending the Cowpox (not actual Smallpox) in a weakened version in thimerosal (a form of mercury), it's NO DIFFERENT TODAY.

Well, knowledge is power and our health has improved dramatically since we've halted vaccinations of any kind. I own this book and will buy every release that comes out to gleen the latest details. It's a steal at 10 times the price. Truly, it contains information that could save your children's lives. Unfortunately, the book came too late for me and my family. I wish this were all just internet drama. But on June 29th, she'll have been dead 11 years. So, ya....truly, matter of life and death.

I have reccomended it to my patients for years.

This book contains all of the information that you need to follow your intuition and not vaccinate your child. As a naturopathic doctor with 10 years of experience I can tell you that every vaccinated child is a vaccine injured child. In my opinion it is the number one threat to children's health. This is a great review of the arguments against vaccination. The pro side you can get everywhere else. I wish at times that the book was not so inflamatory and simply stated the facts. But he is passionate about the subject and there is much about that to admire also.

We were really enjoying it until we got toward the back of it and noticed that 20 pages are upside down and that those upside down pages are THE same 20 pages that precede the upside down section!! Hope that wasn't too confusing?! In other words, we not only have upside down pages but we are missing 20 pages!! This is a MAJOR error from either the publisher or the printer. So, we will have to hold off final judgement of this book until amazon ships us a new copy that actually has the missing 20 pages in it!

I recommend this book to every parent and parent to be as well as health care professionals, especially pediatricians. It is an eye opener about the issue of vaccinations. The presentation of the issue is very well rounded. It provides sections on:

1. the childhood diseases against which the routine vaccinations are given 2. the opinions of the health care professionals on the vaccinations themselves 3. the experiences of parents with vaccinations 4. guidelines on how to gather information about vaccination exemptions and alternative "treatments".

I strongly recommend it. All parents owe to get informed about vaccinations. God the Almighty entrusted our children to us and we need to care for them with knowledge, and pray for the best.

This was book was so incredibly useful in the decision to vaccinate or not. I had read many books before which were either vehemently against or vigorously for vaccinations. I was at my wits end trying to find a source which presented the information in an unbiased format- this book does exactly that. The author has no agenda, other than wanting people to make informed decisions, and he presents the information fairly. There are no scary stories to play on your emotions, which many other books do present quite often. As a parent this book was indispenible and I wish every parent could have it in their home library!! You won't regret purchasing and reading this book!!

A very (_VERY_) rare objective look at this issue

My wife and I figuratively nearly came to blows over the decision to immunize our children. It came down to the point where we _had_ to find an objective way to make a decision. So, as is our practice, we start reading books.

Only to find that every book written on this subject, on either side of the issue, is extremely inflammatory, biased, and inaccurate. I am not talking about a small sample of books -- the two of us read nearly a dozen books and several dozen articles. And our reading was doing more harm than good.

Until we found this book. This book finally gave us the objective information we were looking for, and we were able to make our decision.

The book is layed out with an introduction to general concepts, then a chapter per disease. Each chapter provides: 1) A description of the disease, with the range of effects observed from that disease, and the historical trend in the severity of outcomes from that disease. 2) A description of the efficacy ! of the vaccine (i.e. what is its effect on the number or severity of cases of the disease.) 3) A description of the range of other known effects of the vaccine, and the severity of those effects.

That is the essential material needed to make a decision about immunization, which is above all else a process of weighing one set of risks against another set of risks.

For those who wish to treat immunization as a decision, this book will help you do so.

An easy to comprehend overview.

This book was a great overview of why you should/should not vaccinate your children. I read the book in one day. I am waiting on another book that is newer for more up-to-date information, but I highly reccomend this easy to understand book.

When I was pregnant with my first baby I knew that I didn't want to immunize any of my children. Up until I read this book I had really no "proof" that my confictions were correct. Thanks to this book, I began a serious investigation into immunizations. I now have tangible info to share with pro-vaccine parents. It only takes one light in a dark world to bring truth!

Excellent Resource for parents, a Must Read!"

The whole immunization issue is so one sided. This book finally gives the other perspective, in an easy to read format. From an educator, and parent's standpoint the book is convincing that immunizing your child is not the only way. No one can force you to immunize your child if you have a belief it's not right. Read this book and finally become educated, confident and informed!

What Children's Books Should Be

Too often these days children's books and tv shows are simply aimed at keeping a child's eyes glued to a colorful page or to a screen, without much thought to imaginative stories or to helping a child to learn or adapt. Not so with this opus. The subtle, fun, and funny narrative cannot but succeed in infusing in the child reader the importance of going to the doctor and of conquering his or her fears of health care. Although Kiki Thorpe and Tom Brannon do a great job in bringing this into book form, it should be noted that this book is adapted from a "Bear" episode written by the talented Chris Moore, whom Thomas Bonfiglio once called, "The best children's writer since A.A. Milne." I only wish more of his work was available.

Hayutin speaks for the "Silent Majority"

Finally, a voice of reason surfaces from the detritus of the flotsam and jetsam of our celebrity-influenced culture. I cannot remember the number of instances I thought, "Yes! He's right -- I know that, too!" when I was reading his book. Hayutin tells the truth about what's going on today with our youth in a manner that every parent can relate to. And he's not timid about asking uncomfortable questions or heralding the truth, even if it's not quite "politically correct". What a breath of fresh air! His book is a passionate plea for the Silent Majority [my words] to wake up and join the movement to recognize the importance of basic morality and truth-based philosophy in teaching our children. If his writing style is a bit intense at times, it is consistent with the intensity of his message about the very real dangers facing our children today in a culture that is depraved. Bravo, Mr. Hayutin! We the [Silent Majority] agree with you and will be silent no more. Thongs for 13-year olds? Not in my household.
